Summary: To many, Kagome was an enigma. One minute, she could be so kind and gentle, but the next? Not so much… A darkened history stains her past- from fighting demons to getting drug into the Port Mafia by her older brother all before she was 15. Even now, years after leaving, it was impossible to fully erase it all. It's only a matter of time before the illusion fades.
Pairing: Kagome/Chuuya

Prologue
She wasn't blind to the fact that the woman she'd grown to become was so far away from the girl she'd once been. As she stood before the mirror, absentmindedly brushing the tangles from her hair as she got ready for the day to come, bluebell eyes snagged onto the identical ones of her reflection. She was silent as she observed the eyes that looked back at her.
They weren't as bright as they once had been. After all, how could they possibly be?
A silent sigh fell from her lips as she glanced down, setting her brush to the side once she'd brushed it out enough. A voice prattled on from the living room. She hadn't opened the door for him. It seemed like he found his way in any way- much like a pest.
Well, maybe that was a bit cruel, but she found her assumption sticking quite well.
She left the bathroom, blue eyes landing on the brown-haired man that hadn't been there before she'd gone to get ready for the day. He wore a smile on his face as he spoke to the young girl sitting in the room with him. Her orange hair was long and matched her own in style- minus the little star-shaped clips pinning her bangs back.
As soon as Kagome stepped into the room, the girl's eyes lit up and she got up from where she sat to go over to her. "Mama!" she exclaimed. As soon as she reached her, she gripped her pants with her tiny hands, the bracelet around her left wrist jingling loudly. In response, Kagome swiftly picked her up. At once, the girl clung to her as Kagome turned to send a glare at the man present.
"What have I told you about picking my lock, nii-san?" she questioned coldly. Dazai stifled a laugh in response, shaking his head.
"I didn't this time," he spoke. She could tell that he wasn't telling another lie. The next second, he motioned to the child she held. "Little Hikari-chan let me in."
Kagome turned to give her daughter a look as she smiled. "And what have I told you about opening the door for strangers at the door?"
"But it wasn't a stranger," her daughter responded with a pout.
Kagome sighed, "that's not the point," she said. It could've been.
"Is she going with us today?" Dazai asked, and Kagome shook her head as she carefully set the small girl back down on the ground.
"No," she responded before looking at the girl. "Go get your bag," she told her, and the child nodded before teetering off to her room to retrieve the object. "She's going to daycare today," Kagome said as she went to grab her coat.
He nodded, the girl skipping back into the room all but a second later.
Kagome made her way to the door, her daughter following behind her much like a duckling. After opening the door, Kagome glanced back at the older man with a curious look on her face. "Are you gonna go without me, or do you wanna come with me?" she asked. Her voice called his attention back to her, and he responded with a smile.
"I'll come with you."
After all, they usually went to the Agency together. There wasn't a reason to change things up.
Her brother was a complex subject for her.
While she undoubtedly loved him, he also was a huge pain in her side. She'd become a pro at putting up with him, however, and it'd become natural over the years. As annoying as that was. Imagining the days without him present made the world seem so gloomy, in her eyes. She knew others would remain unaffected if he'd just up and vanished.
They'd just dropped Hikari off at daycare, and, while Kagome was all glares, her brother was the exact opposite.
"I can't believe you…!" Kagome growled as she stalked away from the building. Her face was bright red in embarrassment, and she covered her face to block him out the best she could. It didn't work, considering she could sense his aura right beside her. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" she screamed once they were far enough away, whipping her head up to glare at him. Passerbys on the street stumbled a bit at her abrupt shout- nervously continuing on their way far away from her and the man at her side.
Dazai looked at her with a playful smile, not bothering to mask his amusement at her actions. "Whatever could you mean?" he asked. He didn't miss the way her eyes narrowed in ire.
"Asking that poor daycare attendant to choke you… ugh!" she growled. "Oh, God, I have to find a new daycare now. I can't go back ever again after that stunt you pulled."
"It was a joke," he sighed, and Kagome leveled a pointed glare at him.
"This is why I should've never trusted you to go in with me." If it's not one thing, it's another with him! "You're just… you're awful!"
No matter how much space she tried to put between them as she went to the Agency, he kept up with ease. Still, that didn't stop her from tuning him out successfully.
It's a miracle she hadn't snapped and strangled him herself. Maybe she was wrong to always question herself. At the very least, her willpower was phenomenal.
Auroua-chan: I was into BSD a while back, but I ended up kinda falling out of it for some time. I've decided to come back to it.
Pairing is final.
Hikari is the daughter of Kagome and Chuuya (the latter of which doesn't know about her.) More about their relationship will come up soon. Kagome's demon companions will make an appearance soon, as well.
Some info to know:
Kagome was pulled into the past when she was 14, opposed to 15. She is currently 20, and her daughter is 3.
