Sorry for the delay my weeks have been busier than I thought I would be but all three chapters are up!
-September 24th-
"Isaac not here?" CJ's dad, Logan, asked when he came down from their apartment and into the garage where she was working on her motorcycle.
"Nah, Aunt Kelly needed him to take Natalie to a friend's house." CJ looked up from her bike, cocking an eyebrow at her dad's outfit that was far from his normal attire. He was finishing buttoning up his only white dress shirt, before tucking the ends into his black slacks. "Date night?"
"Yupp," he said, smile slowly spreading on his lips. "I'm taking her to that fancy restaurant down on King Street."
"Coming back home?" CJ teased as she stood up to wipe off the grease on her hands. "Or to her house since it's closer."
Logan rolled his eyes, ignoring the question in favor of his own. "Don't you have homework to do?"
CJ laughed, going along with her dad's attempt at a subject change. "Yeah, gonna go do it after finishing up here."
She loved seeing something other than her or cars making her dad happy, even if he was afraid to tell her about his girlfriend, Casey and took nearly six months to say something, thinking CJ would be mad about him dating. And saying it did not make her mad at the beginning, would be an understatement; she hated the fact he had a girlfriend especially since he barely talked about her mother but she never voiced any of that hatred. Instead, she kept it to herself, not wanting to ruin his happiness. However, when she realized hating him for that was selfish of her, she let go of that hatred and gave him her full support.
"Good." He turned to go out to his truck, yelling back, "make sure you eat something too. Love you!"
"I will! Love you too."
CJ connected her phone to the garage's speaker system via Bluetooth to play her music before grabbing the tool she needed and crouching back down to finish up her motorcycle. But what should have been a five more minute process, ended up taking close to an hour to complete, with a lot of singing and cursing in between.
When she finally finished, CJ threw the cover over her bike and headed upstairs to the apartment. However, a person wearing a black cloak popped out in front of her, blocking the door and causing CJ to stop in her tracks, confused as to where they came from. The hood easily concealed the upper half of their face, leaving only the mouth visible.
"Who the hell are you?" CJ asked, stepping backwards down the stairs, sensing something wasn't right.
The person's hand came out from under the cloak, glowing a blood red and with a flick of the wrist sent an invisible wave, colliding with CJ and sending her tumbling down the four remaining steps. She landed flat on her back, wheezing but managed to prop herself up on an elbow as the person leisurely climbed down the staircase. The person let out a high pitched laugh, similar to a witch's cackle.
"That sounded straight out of a movie," CJ breathe as she pulled herself up with the help of a toolbox. "Least now I know you're not a friendly."
The mouth split into a tight smile, making CJ uneasy.
"You're not gonna talk, are you?" She asked, her hand blindly running along the opened tool box, looking for a tool heavy enough to use as a weapon.
As if to answer the question the person's hand swung out in front of her, a red like whip seizing her throat, blocking off her airway. CJ clawed at her throat, feeling the whip singe her skin. If she didn't think fast, she would black out and be completely powerless or be headless in the next couple minutes.
The moment CJ's hand found a tool she wasted no time in chucking it at the person, nailing them right in the chest and distracting them enough to release their hold on her. She dropped to the ground, coughing and breathing heavily, gingerly touching her throat and knowing she was going to have a hard time explaining it to her dad.
"Shit! Who the hell are you?" CJ screamed, angrily and the best she could since her best sounded like she had strep throat.
"Why does it matter?" The person griped, voiced clearly by a female and obviously irritated as she rubbed the spot the tool hit her. "You're not going to be around much longer."
CJ stumbled away from the women, trying to get as much distance between her and the woman as the three door garage allowed her to, swiping a pipe wrench off a shelf she passed and squatting behind the Ford pick-up truck sitting in the third garage.
"Running isn't going to help you!" The woman's voice echoed off the walls along with her heeled footsteps. "It only makes it more entertaining for me."
CJ's reply was cut off by a familiar glow from beside her. She shielded her eyes watching the portal open and Grix step out.
"You okay, CJ?"
CJ dropped her head back against the truck, sighing, thankfully for his presences. "Yeah, I'm good. How did you know?"
"Later." Grix held his hand out, to which she took and allowed him to pulled her up. "Lets get through the portal."
"Aw you found a friend." The woman popped within arm's reach of them, hands once again flaming red.
Grix yanked his ax off his back, stepping in front of the Guardian. "Go!"
CJ wasted no time in going through the portal as Grix swung at the woman, back stepping into the portal. Once they were both through Grix turned to Queen Cornelia to close the portal but the enemy shot the same invisible force as before at him, throwing him back so she was able to step through without difficulty.
The Earth Guardian's eye darted around seeing Izzy and Wally were already there before finding Wynter not far from the other two, looking how CJ felt and probably having gone through similar events no doubt the other Guardians went through as well.
The leader nodded her head, acknowledging her silent request after Izzy's own request.
"Guardians unite!"
