Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon.

How exciting, but alas terrifying. I won't spoil it for you, but I tell you as the audience you will be in for two of the most controversial events in digimon history, one of which is in this chapter. Out of all of canon (aside from the non confirmation of takari as canon- you can destroy my heart now) nothing else comes close. Once you cross that line you can't go back. If you want Digimon to be a rosy child-like fantasy story well you probably should have stopped after the short story, but, if you are here you know what to expect. And how much more should it be for the villain Rei Kurenada? He's been through enough right? You would think so, but you would be sorely mistaken. Just wait and see.

Chapter Nine: Innocent Sinner

Rei Kurenada felt the side of his inner suit coat, a knife-like shape in place for the deed that must be done. He steeled his focus walking with Skamon resting uncomfortably in a wheeled suitcase he brought with him.

"R-Rei," he heard Skamon complain, "Are we almost there? This isn't quite the luxury I expected when you said you would let me stay at the mansion."

"Hush Skamon," he scolded, neither looking to the left or the right. "You will blow away our cover."

"What do you mean?" he asked.

Rei gritted his teeth, but kept walking. He had been over it with him five times already. The plan was to get into the building, confront uncle Goumatsu, get it recorded, catch him on tape, and then either give it to the police or something else that would deserve vengeance.

"I'll tell you what I will do," he said coolly. "If you help me out with this then we will go get hamburgers and fries after this," he said. "But you have to help me. If you see me in a tight spot Skamon then-"

"-I'd help you without the food anyway Rei!" he literally could hear him chuckle inside. "But still, fast food after this does sound nice."

"I hope you'll be looking forward to it..." he leered moving forward, stopping in front of the mansion. It literally fumed a sense of desperation and anger within him underneath his calm exterior.

He snarled grinning maliciously.

"...I know I am."

Infiltrating seemed a little to easy. Upon sight the guards had let him in. Now, he had been escorted to the waiting halls where he knew Goumatsu somehow would be slugging around like the disgusting fat insect he was, observing his every move.

He walked towards a table noticing it had been set up quite nicely with all kinds of enticing delicacies that surely Sarada would have scrambled to chug as many down as she could. It seemed more fancy than the other family gatherings.

"Oh uncle," he grinned grabbing one in his hand, about ready to take a bite and then immediately looked up towards the stairs, a figure scurrying away he barely could catch the shadow of.

"Got you," he said his suitcase lurching slightly.

"Rei," Skamon moaned. "That smells so good. Can I have a bite?"

"This is probably poisoned," he said. "And you better stay in there," he said harshly keeping the suitcase still with his foot. "Otherwise no fast food for you," he scolded.

Immediately the suit case stopped moving.

"That's a good boy," he said.

Rei waited for his uncle to appear to him or at least an escort so they could meet face to face. He highly doubted his uncle would try to kill him in the mansion in an area like this. But if he could get him with poison then he would probably then most likely-"

Before he could finish that thought an assortment of maids walked over to him and approached him. They looked beautifully dressed with the most expensive lipsticks, and galoshes. Rei shook his head a bit depressed because that's what he had used when he had been cross dressing for his own safety.

"Master Rei," one of them said approaching him. "It's so good that you've come here!" she said. She had long black hair, ruby glistening lips, and distinct features. She couldn't have been more than twenty-five, but appeared to try to look younger.

"As expected," he grumbled to himself. "This must be part of Goumatsu's sick twisted perversions."

"I never noticed," she said, "But you have the most stunning eyes," she said. "Why don't you have a drink with us while you are waiting?" she said fluttering her eyes.

"No thanks," Rei said turning his back. She didn't even seem the least bit attractive to him. Her repulsive fake honey-glazed voice reminded him altogether of whispers and backbiters at the family gatherings.

"But Rei," the maid said, not giving up latching onto his arm, pressing her chest against it.

Immediately Rei upon impact brought his arm back and cast her away with his arm strength, the maid spinning across the ground against the table where some of the dishes had fallen on her.

"Insolent wench," he snarled. "You're no Asaki! You're in the presence of a Kurenada!"

He calmed himself down looking at the others. "All of you out of my sight," he said calmly. "And tell that bastard Goumatsu I want to see him right now."

Two of the maids grabbed the maid that had been literally cast like a fishing line and retreated away, one of them hurrying to clean up the mess.

Rei turned around tapping his feet. It seemed as if he had been waiting for quite some time.

"I'm tired of waiting," he said, but he knew he could not just wander wherever he wanted and expect not to get shot at or stabbed and have his body hidden never to be seen again. There was no way he would ever let Goumatsu win. It was all out war. Either he took Goumatsu out or Goumatsu would take him out.

"Rei," Skamon moaned. "Reiiiii," he said, Rei trying to ignore him.

"Reiiiiiiiiiiii," he said carrying the last syllable out so long Rei had no choice, but to stamp his foot down on the suitcase.

"What is it?" he snapped, the suitcase coming to a halt.

"...Never mind," Skamon said. "You're scary Rei."

"Well it's not like it's a safe situation right now," he replied. "I don't have time to deal with your antics. Goumatsu should be showing up soon," he said tilting his glasses on his face keeping his eyes peeled. "Surely, he will show his face sooner or later."

Upon those words looking up a couple of male butlers came down to see him, their eyes cold.

"We're glad to see you come back home young master," one said.

"Please follow us. Master Goumatsu is waiting for you."

"It's about time," he said walking ahead with them wondering if by chance they would lead him to Goumatsu's chambers. Surely he would have some other trap laid for him, but he had a secret weapon. And Skamon would come to his rescue if anyone tried anything. No one would dare mess with a razor fanged, sharp clawed raptor basilisk monster.

The personnel grew fewer and fewer as he realized he had arrived into Goumatsu's wings. Only the most lavish decoration and a mist hung about, something so elevated it stung his sinuses. He wondered if it could be poison, but the other butlers seemed just fine.

"Master Goumatsu is waiting for you in here," they said opening a door to an area with a small chamber almost like a closet.

"No," Rei replied slamming the door shut. He looked towards the dining room for another large room one that did not have an exit, but it indeed had space if he needed to defend himself. He could not be pinned in it so easily in case Goumatsu had a whole assassination squad after him.

"I will be in this room," he said going into it and sitting on the couch. "Tell Goumatsu I will see him here and nowhere else," he said feeling his side pocket.

"But sir," one of them said. "This room is-"

"-Do I make myself clear?" he glared at them, the two of them instantly retreating upon his gaze. He had no time to play cat and mouse with the fool.

He folded his arm across his leg having already become used to some feminine mannerisms that were tough to forget.

He waited before they had gone before he let his guard down slightly, his suitcase vibrating next to him.

"You sure told them Rei!" Skamon exclaimed.

"I said pipe down!" he said throwing his fist against the suitcase, Skamon becoming quiet again.

He glanced up at a fancy clock chiming away at the time. The longer time advanced the more time Goumatsu would have to figure out to do away with him, but even still it was better to find him first before his assassination squads found him.

The sound of footsteps approached him a ways away, the sound of them familiar to Rei.

"It's him," he said trying to remain calm.

"Take it easy Rei," Skamon cautioned, Rei scoffing at his comment.

No sooner had he turned to shush him again that his uncle Goumatsu appeared. Yes, even now, his hair thinning, wrinkles lifting up against his forehead when he smiled, a plastered fake smile across his face. Indeed he showed off with a couple of jeweled rings, a lavish watch, and this time a solid gold necklace. He wore a very expensive suit coat and slacks and moved about comfortably in such luxury.

Rei stood up against the man who he knew would be his killer.

"Rei," he smiled.

Rei also smiled back trying to play his game. "It's a pleasure to see you Uncle Goumatsu," he said bowing his head slightly wanting to pinch himself so hard he would bleed. "Might you shut the door. We have business to attend to and don't want to disturb the household."

"Ah yes," he grinned shutting the door while facing him, taking a bit of time probably to lock the door.

"How have you been Rei?" he asked. "You certainly seemed to have found your way around in the world even after abandoning the Kurenadas," he said smoothly. "I'm glad to see you look so healthy."

Rei grinned trying to stifle some laughter. "Oh please," he chuckled. "It's you Uncle Goumatsu who are the pristine picture of health. You're girth surely is a sign of your bountiful wealth as the medieval rulers that proceeded you," he said cheerfully.

At that Goumatsu laughed heartily patting his stomach. "Yes it seems I have packed on some weight over the years. This life has been good to me," he said. "May I interest you in some refreshments? Or perhaps a bottle of wine?"

Rei held up his hand. "Thank you for the offer, but I must decline. Eating and drinking such expensive and luxurious delicacies might kill me," he said studying his movements behind his friendly facade.

Goumatsu nodded his head and clapped his hand together. "Of course," he said. "I must watch my health as well. But when you're wealthy like me you tend to live off the fat of the land," he said cheekily as if making fun of himself.

Rei said nothing, his smile thinning.

"Tell me Rei," he said, "After all of this time why did you come back? You were never a foolish child, you could see the writing on the wall unlike the others."

"About them," Rei said resting his chin on his hands. "Just how many of us did you kill? Is there anyone else left?"

Goumatsu grinned. "Let's just say the amount of tragedies within this family are staggering," he said. "But we spread the wealth to heal the sorrows of loss."

Rei swallowed wanting to vomit out his organs. Yes, truly Goumatsu could not be called anything but the epitome of swine. And to get his wealth or what he wanted he would go to any measures to do it.

Goumatsu also seemed to study him and frowned. "It was a pity of what happened to my brother when he died going to see you in the hospital. We have most of everything he has, but he has his silly little shrine as a homage to him. I would have thought I could have taken you under my wing like I did with Sarada."

"Ho?" Rei said grinning unable to hide his contempt. "You dare say her name when you were the one that offed her? And tell me Uncle," he said, "How many times have you tried to kill me now? Really, a man such as you, as rich as you, with as many resources and tricks up his sleeve could not kill one whiny brat," he said making fun of himself. "This is truly a divine comedy."

"Isn't it though?" Goumatsu said his smile growing more wickedly. "But as you can tell it's just not enough for me. You're share was taken from you, but even still you get your own tiny portion of interest off of a very small amount. It's almost insulting!" he exclaimed.

"So just because I have a little and you have a lot I can't have anything?" he said staring at him wondrously. "What a truly horrible person you are."

Goumatsu scoffed ignoring him. "Say what you want," he replied. "But we both know how this is going to end. You're going to die here, be carried off somewhere else and have some crazy story made about someone murdering you and stealing your possessions and throwing your body in Kotori Lake."

At the mention of that place Rei stared through him. "Ah, I see," he said coldly. "Sarada, this man is your murderer after all," he said drawing a knife from his pocket and pointing it at him. "Goumatsu, you killed her. And the others. And your hand is red with the blood that killed the detective investigating the death of Sarada to. So much blood is on your hands," he said. "And as twisted as I am because of you, not even I could coat mine with as much pp`` blood."

Goumatsu put his hand in his coat. "Really boy? Are you threatening me? Did you come to kill me? Do you even know who it is you are threatening?!" he shouted drawing a silencer and shooting the blade out of his hand, the blade slicing against the suitcase lock, bouncing off of it and stabbing into the floor.

Rei felt as if his hand burned from when the blade got knocked away from him. He tried to move his hand, but it felt sprained even to each finger joint and his wrist.

He held it against his chest in pain, gritting his teeth staring at him. Immediately before he could react Goumatsu shot at his side, the bullet not making a sound as it grazed against his side, Rei falling to a knee.

He stared up at him defiantly, the monstrous pig imposing his presence upon him.

"How I've longed for this day," he chuckled. "Ever since you were a brat and kicked me in the shin I have always wanted to take everything from you with my own hands," he said. "Fujiwara prevented me at times, but I at last have you right where I want you ready to die by my hand. Why don't you beg for me to save you Rei?" he said with a twisted expression. "Or, why don't you cry for help as Sarada did?" he asked. "Or how about you cry your eyes out calling for your dead parents? It would grant me no greater thrill!"

The pudgy faced porker fueled the rage inside Rei barely able to stand being in so much pain. There was no way he would ever give him the benefit of the doubt. Not even if it killed him!

Goumatsu took the gun and smacked his face to the left and the right, Rei still staring at him, his gaze no less murderous to kill him.

"You're not making this as fun as I had hoped," he said taking the gun and taking the tip where smoke had still been coming out and burning the tip across his face, the pain searing, but Rei ever defiant.

"I will never let you get away with this," he growled through the depth of his throat. "Never. You'll always have my gaze haunting you till the day you die."

"Oh?" he said curiously. "Well Rei, if that's how you are going to take it then I won't rest until you are a blubbering pathetic mess in front of me," he said, "that I will scrape off like crap on a shoe," he said making a movement as if scraping some off of his shoe with the other.

Rei tried to move, but the pain was too much too bear. He wanted to call out for Skamon, but even still in this life or death situation his pride would not let him. No, he wanted to defeat Goumatsu and no one else.

"Do your worst," he said spitting blood on the ground next to him. "You will never get me to react like that."

"But I will," he said cheerfully grinning from left to right, one mustache to the next. "For you see Rei you don't know the whole picture. Do you remember a boy named Masa?"

Rei instantly perked up even more, a sense of dread filling him with horror.

"Why do you know that name?" he asked searching his memories. "I only spoke with Masa briefly. I-"

He clamped his tongue shut realizing why he knew that name. "So Masa was the one," he said. "It wasn't a cold that killed my friend Hiroki. It was Masa."

"That's right," Goumatsu sneered. "Masa is an assassin in my care. I snuck him into the baseball organization had Hiroki killed and then used that cover to murder his sister you were staying with. I believe her name was "Asaki?"

Rei stared at him, his eyes quivering, his emotional state starting to become undone.

"Impossible," he breathed out heavily. "She didn't commit suicide?"

"Nope," he smirked. "I only made you think she did. After all wasn't it such a good excuse dealing with the loss of her brother? And what better way than to drive you into despair until we met face to face? I saved it all for this moment Rei!" he grinned, his eyes piercing him. "And now that I have I can finally kill you. You are going to die right here and now," he said pointing the gun towards his heart.

"Well," he snickered. "Do you have any last words? Don't worry I won't tell anyone. And neither will you."

Rei found himself trying to control his tears, his nose running, him reduced to a blubbery mess just like Goumatsu had wanted.

"Ska…" he wheezed.

"Ska?" Goumatsu said slightly thrown off.

"...Ska…" Rei said again.

"What are you babbling about? Have you lost your mind already before you've even died? Then I'll just put you out of your misery," he said pointing it directly at his chest.

"...Skamon!" Rei shouted with all of his heart, Skamon bursting through the suitcase.

"Reiiii!" he shouted jumping in front of the bullet as it was released, taking it in the side, Skamon groaning out in pain as he took the bullet. Even still he jumped towards Goumatsu's forearm and pierced his fangs deep into it.

Goumatsu cried out dropping the gun. He looked at his hand incredulously, blood seeping from it from the teeth marks, sweat pouring from his head, as if unable to use his hand.

"Just what did you do to me?!" he screamed panicking. "My hand! I can't move it! My hand!"

Rei took the opportunity to get up noticing Skamon seemed a bit wounded, but the digimon did not bleed. It seemed so very surreal that the tides had suddenly changed.

He got up and walked in front of Goumatsu grabbing onto his gun. He pointed it at him, no mercy in his eyes.

"W-wait!" Goumatsu cringed. "Don't kill me! I swear, I will make this up to you Rei! I will restore your family name! I will give you everything I have! I'll even give you all of your restored inheritance!" he exclaimed. "Don't kill me! Rei!"

Rei gripped the weapon, his finger itching on the trigger. He gritted his teeth, all of his rage boiling within him.

"For everything you've done," he growled like a bursting geyser, "And everything you were going to do," he said, the pressure building up as he started to pull on it. "You've wanted to take everything away from me. And now I will take everything away from you!"

"N-no!" Goumatsu pleaded shutting his eyes tight, Rei nearly blacking out. Immediately a red claw latched onto his hand preventing him from pulling it.

Rei tried to fight against it to pull it, but the claw stopped him asserting itself, Rei unable to fire.

"Rei," Skamon's calming voice said, though slightly wheezing. "No. Don't do it. He's not worth it buddy."

"How can you say that?" Rei said tearing, adrenaline surging through him and clenching his teeth so hard he could taste his tears pouring down his face.

Skamon shook his head calmly. "I heard you Rei. And I'm sorry. About the loss of your friends. Sarada, Hiroki, your Dad, and everyone else. You've been through a lot Rei. But you can't become the monster he is."

Rei screeched in his throat deeply shutting his eyes shut trying to block out his words, but he couldn't.

"Come on Rei," Skamon said. "You've got to let it go. It will destroy you. Especially with your condition," he said. "A considerate person like you wouldn't do something like that would he?" he smiled.

The soft glow on his face made Rei collapse to his knees breathing out heavily.

"Ha!" Goumatsu winced grinning. "This is why you lose Rei," he said. "You had mercy on me. I don't know what that thing is, but once my personal guard gets here they will do away with you and your lizard pet!"

Rei sighed realizing his chance had gotten away. He had gone soft, all because of Skamon. After promising himself to get revenge in the end he gave in to the will of his friend and now it would be the death of-

"-Rei…" Skamon said interrupting his thoughts. His eyes looked down on Goumatsu, a pitiful look in them the likes of which he had ever seen, but they were steel focused for some reason.

"...You can't become a monster like him," he said. "I won't let you. But I, I know that I am already a monster. A digital monster," he said. "And I can do the terrible things you can't."

Rei swallowed heavily not used to seeing him so serious. "If you kill him the police will arrest us when they see his dead body," he said. "It's all over for me Skamon. I have no future. But you still have a chance," he said. "If you leave now I-"

"-No Rei!" he said stomping his foot down, Rei slightly taken aback. He turned back and looked at him smiling.

"You've always taken care of me. You've watched over me. You've protected me," he said smiling widely gripping his claws. "So now Rei, it's my turn," he said looming over Goumatsu."Don't worry," he smiled nervously. "I'll take care of you."

Upon those words Rei Kurenada watched as Skamon opened his jaws and clamped down on Goumatsu's hand crunching on it, chewing on it, Goumatsu screeching out. He tore his arm off his body, and with determination and strength literally devoured Goumatsu piece by piece, Rei unable to turn his eyes away seeing the details, covering his mouth with his hands watching him be dismembered until their was nothing left. He then with powerful tongue lashes lapped down on the blood. He called out 'Life Drain', instantly all the splashes of blood from the carnage flowing instantly into his tongue, Skamon swallowing.

Rei stood amazed and horrified. How could such a marvelous monster be so saintly, yet commit such a horrifying act? How? Skamon was so innocent like a child and yet he…

"...Rei," Skamon said tearing.

Instantly a door burst from the other side open with men with guns, but Skamon glared at them with such blood lust all of them panicked and ran off.

Rei sat on his knees petrified in front of Skamon, Skamon approaching him.

"Rei?" he said curiously bringing his arms closer. "Rei?" he said, Rei scooting back against the sofa.

"It's me Rei," he grinned hugging him, Rei noticing his teeth stained with blood, chunks of Goumatsu's flesh still in them.

His skin shivered realizing just how much of a threat a 'digimon' could be.

"Did I do good Rei?" he asked smiling innocently, Rei touched, but cautious of him.

"Y-yes," Rei daring to put his shaking hand forward and pat his forearm hoping that it would not get torn off like Goumatsu's did.

"You did good," he said still reflecting on all that had happened. Goumatsu's words, his death, the danger Skamon posed and how fast he had recovered from taking a bullet.

"Then let's go," Skamon smiled. "I'm glad I protected you Rei."

Rei forced a smile on his face and went along with him holding his hand, Skamon no longer in the suitcase or bothering to hide him.

"Incidentally," Rei mused. "I did promise you fast food. Are you hungry?"

Skamon grinned, but then put his claws on his belly. "Umm Rei?" he said slightly embarrassed. "Not anymore."
