Remember, in this tale, Oz never knew Willow or had the Scoobies as his support when he became a werewolf, so I have imagined a likely scenario for him.

Chapter 2: Buffy's Men

*****Where We Left Off*****

When Buffy saw the surprised in Oz's eyes, she knew that he was not a wizard, nor did he realize magic was real. The next words out of his mouth confirmed it: "So magic is real too? Cool," he said.

Buffy was a bit flummoxed at his easy acceptance. Oz nodded his chin toward Faith. "Is she a witch, too, because you and she both move like predators. That why I thought you might be what I am," he said.

"No, she's not. We're something different," Buffy said, wondering what she should say. She didn't know this guy. However, she wanted to know what he was. Was he a vampire? Surely, not. There was no way a vampire would be a student. He was warm to the touch, not cold like Angel. "What are you?"

Oz gave her a contemplative look, silent for a very long moment. Buffy felt that he was wondering if he could trust her. As the song ended, he released her and stepped back. She thought he wasn't going to answer. Then he said in a quiet voice, still keeping his eyes locked onto hers, "A werewolf."

"Oh," Buffy said, nodding. "That's okay. You keep yourself locked up during the full moon, so you don't hurt anyone, right?"

Oz nodded. "Yes. Devon, he found out and has a family cabin outside of town that we go to," Oz told her. "Gotta go play. This was nice. I don't usually talk much."

Buffy smiled, finding him more interesting by the minute. "Thank you for talking to me," she told him.

Faith walked over to, watching the guitarist walk back to the stage. "He seemed to be really into you," Faith said, giving her a hip bump.

"He could sense that you and I were different, and he asked me if I was like him," Buffy said. "I mistakenly thought he meant witch and spilled the beans."

Faith snickered. "Damn, B. Rookie move," she said. "You must've really been into him."

They watched as he picked up his guitar. Then his eyes focused exclusively on Buffy.

"He was really cool about it," Buffy said. "He's a werewolf."

"Really? I would never have guessed," Faith said. "You know we have to tell our watchers. They'll want to record it."

"I suppose," Buffy said, feeling guilty. "He said Devon takes him to a cabin out of town and chains him during the full moon."

"That's cool," Faith said. "One less thing we need to worry about."

Buffy spotted two redheads and grinned. "Here comes my favorite twins," she said. "Tomorrow, their shop opens up, so we have to stop by after school."

George and Fred grinned as he approached Buffy and Faith. Then George saw Cordelia dancing with someone and stopped smiling. Then he made a point of not looking her way again.

Buffy pulled both in for a hug. "I'm so glad you two are finally here!" she told them.

"We finally dragged ourselves away," George said.

"The shop is finally ready," Fred said.

"Faith, you remember the twins," Buffy told her.

"How could I forget?" Faith asked. "The duo that took out that crazy bitch, Drusilla. My watcher is very excited to meet you and get a firsthand account for her diary."

"We are too busy," George said brusquely. He didn't want to think about the one act he did that led to his baby brother's death.

"Okay. Sometime when you're not," Faith said.

Fred knew George was about to say something rude and smiled. "Of course," he said. "Care to dance?" He took Faith by the hand and twirled onto the dance floor, making her laugh.

Draco was dancing with Harmony at this point and saw Faith dancing with one of the Weasley twins and glared. "What's wrong?" Harmony asked.

"Nothing. Just saw one of the annoying Weasleys," he replied.

Harmony looked, not knowing who he was talking about. "Who is that?" she asked.

"Redheaded twins," Draco said. "They're from my old school. Moved here because they adore Buffy and wanted to open a business on the hellmouth."

Harmony's eyes widened. "The hellmouth? What's that?" she asked.

"Surely, you know that this town is on a hellmouth," Draco said. "It's why so many people disappear."

The song ended, and Draco walked back toward Cordelia, who was greeting one of the twins, leaving a flabbergasted Harmony behind.

Draco walked up to Cordelia, who was talking to Buffy and George. "I see they will let anyone in here," he said.

"Well, yeah," Buffy said, grinning. "This is America."

"Malfoy," George said. "Have you broken into a rash being around all these muggles?"

"No, I think I did just now at the sight of your ugly mug," he replied with a smirk.

"Boys, play nice," Buffy warned.

After Faith and Fred made it back to their side, Buffy said, "We probably should go patrol since we have school in the morning."

Faith groaned. "Don't remind me!" she complained. "I can't believe you convinced me to do that."

"Father needs all the support he can get," Buffy said. "So does Draco. They are going to have a difficult enough time adjusting to American school."

"Please. Draco is going to have no trouble," Cordelia said. "The workload is much easier, and once he realizes he can type and use a ball point pen instead of quills, he will never be the same."

"I am not worried," Draco said arrogantly.

"Let's go," Faith said. "I'm ready to give something a beat down."

Harmony came up to Cordelia just as they made it to the exit. "Cordy, did you know this town was on a hellmouth? Draco said that's why people keep disappearing," Harmony asked her.

"Drake!" Cordelia yelled, glaring at him.

He quickly exited the club as Cordelia explained to her friend that Brits had a crazy sense of humor.

When she finally caught up to her friends, Draco was telling the twins about his car.

"But you don't drive it?" Fred asked.

"I will soon enough," he said. "Cordelia is teaching me the rules, so I can get the permit to practice on it."

"It's a hot car," Faith agreed. "I look forward to our first date in it." She winked at him. "Come on B."

"Do you want to split up the town or do a general sweep?" Buffy asked.

"Why don't Draco and I take the twins south, and you and Faith go north?" Cordelia suggested.

"Slayers versus witches? I'm so digging that!" Faith exclaimed.

"Well. . ." Buffy said with a grin.

"Yeah, yeah, I know you're a witch, too, but you're more of a slayer than a witch," Faith said. "Even you would agree that your instinct is to hit with your fists, not pull out your magic wand. Or stab with your stake, not flick your stick."

"She's got you there—even if that sounded really naughty," Cordelia said with snort. "Okay, be careful. I have to make sure Draco knows why he can't go telling Harmony and others about the hellmouth."

"What?" Buffy exclaimed.

"Exactly!" Cordelia replied, looking smug.

"God, what's the bid deal? She's your best friend. Why keep her ignorant?" Draco asked. "Didn't Lovegood predict her death already anyway? She needs to be on guard."

"Let's go," Faith said, not wanting to hear any more of their argument.

"Poor Harmony," Buffy said.

"I agree with Drake. Best to tell her the truth," Faith said.

"I was never very good at keeping secrets," Buffy said. "Xander and Willow found out mine by the end of the first day that I met them."

Faith snorted. "Why doesn't that surprise me?" she said. "Are you going to tell them about Oz?"

Buffy shook her head. "No. That's his secret. I told you because it's slayer business," she said. "I trust that your slayer won't say anything, and I'll tell Giles that I only told you. He never gossips." Then she remembered. "I keep forgetting. My Watcher is back in Britain anyway. Father is the least gossipy person alive, so no worries there."

Faith laughed.

They ran across a few vamps and a demon before the second hour was up, and then Buffy's stalker couldn't resist her anymore. He popped out behind a crypt.

"Hello, lover," he said.

Buffy sucked in a breath at the sight of Angel's face. Then she remembered saying goodbye to him, and a coldness replaced the ache. This was Angelus; her dad's murderer.

"Angelus, no matter how much you beg, I will never be your lover," Buffy said with as much scorn as she could muster. "I was Angel's lover, and he is finally at peace, free from you."

"Thank God!" Angelus exclaimed. "I am finally free of that mopey loser. You totally did me a favor, so I'm going to let you live a while longer."

Faith didn't waste time on words, however. Once she realized that the new player was their greatest foe, she went on the offense, attacking. She pushed past Buffy and kicked Angel in the chest, knocking him down.

"This is Faith," Buffy said, grinning. "Kendra's replacement."

"I'm not here to fight," Angelus complained, glaring up at her.

"Too bad," Faith said with a smirk. "I'm always here to fight." Then she kept stomping on Angelus, who was forced to quickly scramble back and jump up to miss her feet.

Buffy moved to flank him, but Angel just blew her a kiss. "Our fun is just beginning," he told her. Then he turned to leave.

"Hey, we're not done!" Faith exclaimed. When Angelus realized that she wasn't going to let him walk away, he took off running while she gave chase.

Buffy sighed, knowing Faith would never catch him, she followed.

*****The Next Day******

One thing that Joyce insisted on was driving them to school even though she had begun teaching Severus how to drive. Buffy filled them in on her and Faith's night of patrolling on the way.

Severus was concerned that Angelus had already revealed himself to Buffy, warning her against patrolling alone as they traveled to school together.

"Okay," she agreed. As they pulled up in the school parking lot "Oh, I met a new guy. He's a guitar player in a band. His name is Oz, and he's a werewolf." Before her father could do more than give her a look of dismay, she flashed him a cheeky grin and jumped out of the car with a cheery wave. "Good luck on your first day!"

Joyce laughed.

"Did she say werewolf?" Severus asked his wife.

"She did," Joyce replied. "She also used the word band and guitar player."

"Oh, Merlin," he muttered. "That girl."

"It is better than a vampire," Joyce said, laughing at his disgruntled expression.

"Why is our bar so low?" he grumbled as he opened the car door.

"Hey, aren't you forgetting something?" she asked.

He looked at her in confusion.

Then she leaned over and kissed him.

He forgot all about his daughter's atrocious taste in boys.

*****Draco*****

His cousin made sure that his clothes were the best money could buy and appropriate for the muggle high school, so he wasn't worried about his attire. It was odd that he wouldn't have to use his wand or worry about any attacks. From what he gathered, being attractive, wealthy and having a British accent would make him immensely popular. The dance club last night made that abundantly clear. Of course, he had wished that he was able to dance once with the beautiful slayer Faith. Buffy had gone off with her, and he didn't even get to patrol with her. Of course, her hint of a future date with his car had not gone unnoticed. He had to get his license as soon as possible. Getting her alone in that car was now a top priority.

When he walked into his first hour math class, called Algebra 1, he was delighted to see Faith sitting in the back. She was surprised to see him. "You're in here, too?" she asked. "I thought I would be the only one in math for dummies."

"That is not the name of this class," he said, frowning as he looked at his schedule.

Faith snickered. "No, but we're juniors taking it with freshman," she said. "I failed it once before. What's your excuse?"

"Hogwarts did not have math like American schools," he said with a shrug.

They got a lot of strange looks from the younger students, but Draco ignored it, giving off his haughtiest vibe, which made him immediately the coolest guy they had ever seen.

Since it was the first day of school, they were saved from the normal new student crap some teachers made them do.

That changed in second hour when they went to their Junior English class together.

"Oh, we have a student from the United Kingdom in our midst!" their teacher announced, way too excited. "Draco Malfoy. Please stand and tell us a bit about yourself."

Draco glanced at Faith, who was grinning at him. The sight of that dimple sent his pulse racing, and he slowly rose to his feet. "Hello," he said. They were once again at the back of the class, so all the students were turned to face him.

When the girls detected his accent, he could hear their audible sigh. He worked to keep the smirk off his face. "I went to school in Scotland before here. I have no siblings, and my father died in the spring. My mother and I decided a change of scenery would be nice, so we are staying with my cousin Cordelia for a bit," he said. He knew that would end the interrogation.

"Oh, I am so sorry for your loss!" the teacher said.

"You're related to Cordelia Chase?" a girl asked.

He nodded.

"She said that she found out Buffy Summers is a cousin, too," the girl said. "How cool is that? She was adopted and didn't know she had any blood family at all."

"And now she has lots. The world is sometimes a wonderful place," the teacher added with a warm smile. "Well, welcome. And Faith Lehane, I believe you are new to Sunnydale also, right?"

Faith nodded. "Yes, I am from Boston. Nice to be here," she said, not getting up.

"I love getting new students," the teacher said, smiling. "We hope you will enjoy your time here in Sunnydale."

When he joined Buffy at his cousin at the lounge during the passing period, Buffy told them that they were going to join her father in the library for his first lunch at school. Cordy was ordering pizza.

Harmony came up to them. "So Buffy, what do you guys call your dad?" she asked.

"I call him father," Buffy said with a grin.

"Uncle Severus," Cordelia replied.

"Professor Snape," Draco answered.

"Professor? Oh, cool," Harmony said. "I need a book in the library for one of my classes, so I need to go see him."

"Cool. Tell him I said hi," Buffy told her.

Harmony nodded and went into the library.

Severus had spent a few days getting used to the library, but it was not enough to figure out the computer. Rupert had warned him, and he nearly used his wand to destroy that maddening muggle contraption. Then a small teenager boy was suddenly in front of him with several books. Where did he come from?

"May I help you?" he asked.

"British?" the boy asked.

"You must be brilliant," Severus said sourly.

The boy smiled, amused and not offended. "I am Daniel Osborn. Welcome to Sunnydale," he said. "I figured I would get this year's readings done early, so I can focus on my band." He placed seven books on the counter.

"Well, I would love to check your books, Daniel in a band, but I cannot seem to get this computer to work," he said.

"What is your name?" Oz asked him.

"Professor Snape was what I was called at my old school, but I suppose it's Mr. Snape here," Severus said.

"I can probably help you with the computer," he said. "I repeated my senior year due to attendance, but I'm kind of good with computers when I want to be."

"Please," Severus said. Then he stood back and allowed the teenager to show him how to use it. The mention of the band had him recalling what his daughter told him. Was this the werewolf that she met last night?

When the young man showed him how to work the computer and checked out his own books, Severus asked him, "Do you have a free period? Maybe you would like to be a library aid?"

Oz considered it. "I guess if I'm in the library I might be in school somewhere," he said with smile.

"I believe you met my daughter last night," Severus said. "Buffy."

Oz looked surprised. "She's your daughter? Wow. I didn't know that," he said.

"My daughter is very special," Severus remarked.

"I could tell that right away," Oz said as he finished checking out his books. "I'm free fifth hour, right after lunch. I'll come back then."

"Good. I'll see you then," Severus said. He watched the young man leave, glad that he would get an opportunity to know the young werewolf.

A pretty blonde girl came in next. "Hi, Professor Snape. I'm Harmony," she said, giving him a bright smile. "I'm friends with your daughter Buffy. She told me to tell you hi."

Severus smiled at the friendly girl. The students have been very nice so far. He also liked that he hardly had to deal with any of them. One or two at a time was quite pleasant. "Hello, Harmony," he said.

"Oh, I love your accent! It's just like Draco's!" she gushed.

"How may I help you?" he asked, ignoring her comment.

"I need a book for my English class," she asked. "Also, do we have any books on hellmouths? Draco said this town was on a hellmough. Cordelia said he was teasing me, but he said that is why so many disappear. There was that British girl that came with Willow that did predict my death at graduation. I would like to know."

Severus could see the poor girl's fear and debated how to answer her. "It is good that you want to know the truth as it is best to be prepared," he said. "I do not believe we have books about the hellmouth. I will tell you, however, that I will not allow anyone to harm you. Buffy Anne and Cordelia will not either. Just stay do not walk around at night alone in this town, and you'll be fine."

Harmony started to ask what Buffy and Cordelia could do. However, she knew that Buffy was different. She nodded and told him again the book she needed for class.

When lunch time came, Severus was pleasantly surprised to see his daughter come in carrying a pizza in one hand and a gift bag in the other.

"Where did that come from?" he asked.

"Oh, Cordelia had the foresight to order it," she said. "Their house elf is going to bring us drinks."

Then Pinky popped in and brought drinks as well as some fruit, placing it all on the library table after covering it with a table cloth. She smiled at Buffy's thanks and disappeared as Faith and Draco came in with Cordelia right behind them.

"I have a gift for you, Father. It's from Willow," Buffy said, handing him a gift bag.

Severus was surprised. "When did you get this?" he asked.

"Oh, she mailed it and insisted that I give it to you on the first day of school," Buffy said, smiling. "It's not something that I would've ever thought to get you, but Willow is special." It was really hard for Buffy to be there without her best friends. She missed both her and Xander like crazy, but she especially missed Willow.

Severus opened the bag and took out the gift. It was a name plate that said Professor Snape.

"She said that she knew you wouldn't like students calling you Mr. Snape, so if you put this by your computer where you check out the books, they'll start calling you Professor Snape," Buffy told him.

Severus looked at the name plate, deeply touched by Willow's thoughtfulness. "That was very nice of her," he said.

"That's our Willow," Buffy said with a smile.

"Can we eat? I'm starvin'," Faith remarked, reaching for some grapes. "Where did the fruit come from?"

"Pinky," Cordelia said.

"Cool," Faith said. "I wish I had a magic elf."

They grabbed the paper plates the house elf had thoughtfully left. Cordelia had to insist that she not bring nice Chinaware as it would look really strange at school. It had taken some convincing before Pinky relented. Of course, it was high quality paper plates.

"How's your first day going?" Cordy asked Draco.

"Fine," Draco said. "The amount of work is ridiculously easy, so I will have no trouble keeping up with my magical studies."

"That is very good," Severus said.

"How about you, Uncle?" Cordelia asked.

"It has been fine also," he said. "It is strange not having to use my wand or having students but also kind of nice, too."

"You haven't had any?" Buffy asked.

"I had a few. Friends of yours primarily," he said. "Harmony asked me for a book on hellmouths and then a Daniel Osborne helped me figure out how to use the computer when it was giving me trouble."

Both Buffy and Cordy looked at him in surprise. "What?" they both asked.

"I thought I talked Harmony around," Cordelia remarked.

"Obviously not," Faith said with a snort.

"Didn't you tell her Draco was kidding?" Buffy asked.

"Yes," Cordelia said.

"I wasn't," Draco said. "She's your best friend. This is a hellmouth. I don't understand why you won't tell her the truth, especially if her death is imminent."

"Her death is so not imminent," Cordelia said, glaring at him.

"Luna predicted it, but we'll be there to stop it," Buffy said. "Faith is now going to school here. Also, she can just skip graduation."

"Whatever," Draco said with a shrug as he reached for another piece of pizza.

"Let's talk about how you met Oz," Buffy asked her father. "He likes to be called that instead of Daniel."

"Oh, the cute guitarist who was into you?" Faith asked with a grin.

"He'll be here soon," Severus said. "He's going to be a library aid next period."

"Great idea, Father!" Buffy exclaimed, pleased.

"I do have one on occasion," he said smugly.

When lunch was nearly over, Oz made an appearance. He was surprised to see so many people in the library.

"Oh, hello," he said.

"Hey," Buffy said, smiling. "We didn't want Father to be alone on his first day. Willow brought him a gift. Did you know her? She and Xander have been here since kindergarten."

"Probably not," he said with a shrug. "I don't go to class much and am a year older than all of you."

"That's why you failed your senior year," Cordelia said. "Devon told me. Hi, I'm Cordelia. This is Faith and Draco. Draco's my British cousin. Buffy's my American cousin."

Oz smiled. "That's cool. Nice to meet you. I'm Oz," he said.

The bell rang. "Time to get to class," Severus said. Everyone but Buffy got up to leave.

Buffy smiled at Oz. "I can't believe you volunteered to help in the library," she said.

"Well, he needs help with the computer," Oz said, looking at her dad with a smile.

"True," Severus said.

"I'm glad," Buffy told him. "You should get to know him because he's not just my father. He's my watcher, so I had to tell him what you told him. I'm not just a witch. That predator thing you sensed about me was because I'm also a vampire slayer. I'll let him tell you what that means." Buffy had decided that she wanted to pull him into their group. Not only did she feel attracted to him, but he had shared his own secret with her and knew she was a witch. If he was going to work with her father, he may as well know everything.

She reached out and took Oz's hand, giving it a squeeze. "I hope you'll still want to talk to get to know me better when you learn about what that means," she said. Then she looked at her father. "You can practice giving the watcher speech Giles usually gives."

After giving him a smirk, she left the library.

"So a vampire slayer?" Oz asked.

"So a werewolf?" Severus replied with a raised eyebrow.

Oz grinned. He had a feeling this school was going to be interesting.
