Spidermanne REBOOT: chapter 2

Chapter 2: probably puberty or something

"What the heck?"

That was all Anne could really say. She wasn't ever unfit, necessarily, (after all, she was star player of the tennis team), but she wasn't this fit. Don't get it wrong, it's not like she had suddenly become a bodybuilder but she was definitely more athletic looking than most. Nothing clothes couldn't cover up.

"Eh, probably puberty. I'll ask marcy about it."

She got dressed and went downstairs to have breakfast.

"Hey Anne! You feeling better?" Asked mrs. Boonchuy.

"Yeah, i'm feeling great now, mom. Hungry though."

"Well, eat up," she pushed a bowl of cereal in front of the teen. "Also, have you been working out?"

Anne spat out some cereal. "What? No! I mean, i've been working out a normal amount. Probably just a growth spurt."

Anne's Dad shouted from the kitchen. "Anne, have you been taking roids?"

"No, dad, I haven't been taking steroids. I said, it's probably just a growth spurt." She went to pack her bag for school and left.

She was already a bit behind schedule so she had to rush. The boonchuy household was a pretty decent way away from school and her bike had been broken recently in a garage-door related incident (long story short, it was mostly mr. Boonchuy's fault) so she had been walking the past few days.

Unfortunately, in her rush, she failed to read the very clear red light, and crossed the road. Her head suddenly was filled with a buzzing sound like it was on fire, or someone had stuffed a horde of ants in there. And all the ants were saying one thing: JUMP.

And jump she did, because she ended up on the roof of a car that had nearly run her over.

"Holy mother of coffee- Anne, are you ok?"

It was doctor Jan, the local museum curator. She was good friends with the family.

"Yeah, i'm ok, doctor jan."

It took a few seconds for her to process that she had just jumped on top of a car.

"Woof, adrenaline really hit in there."

"Yeah! Good reflexes! Remember to watch where you're going!"

"Will do, doctor jan!" She said, climbing off the roof of the car, and continuing on the walk.

"What is up with me today?" Anne mumbled to herself. "First i look like I'm a gymnast, and now i jumped on a car. And… not just that, but i could almost SENSE the car coming."

She heard a buzzing sound and immediately went to bat it away but… she managed to catch a fly between her fingers.

"Okay, that is NOT natural."

———————————————

Anne arrived at school just on time, so she couldn't ask marcy about any of it. She'd have to wait.

"Hey Anne," Sasha smiled at her. "You better?"

"Much better, thanks," Anne replied.

"Looking good today, BTdubs," she smiled. "You been working out?"

Anne blushed intensely. "Ehm, no. I think it's just a growth spurt."

Marcy smiled from the back. She knew exactly how Anne felt.

Anne turned to marcy. "Hey, i got something to talk to you about. Can't right now, can i tell you in english?"

English was one of the only lessons Anne and Marcy shared without Sasha.

"What, without wittle old me?" Sasha jokingly said with puppy eyes.

"It's a science question."

"Aaand you've lost my interest."

———————————————

Anne was next to the two at lunch, in the cafeteria. They mostly had the table to themselves, as nobody really liked to hear marcy ramble except the other two.

"And get this, I rolled a four! a FOUR! Now I'm cursed by a witch and i have an inexplicable uncontrollable urge to bring her a live bear!"

"I still don't understand," Anne said.

"Right, I need to go release my waste, so you guys wait for me, kay?" Sasha said.

"Sure thing, dude."

Marcy then remembered something. "Hey, i wanna show you something cool. Can you hold this?" She gave anne her apple juice carton, while rummaging around in her bag for some watch thingy.

"Cool. Can i have it back?"

"Sure." Anne tried to put the box down but it… was stuck to her hand.

"Well this is a development. Marcy, are your apple juice cartons usually this sticky?"

"…no?" And marcy, with much force managed to wrench the box from her hand, squirting some juice in the process. They both laughed.

"Anyway," she said, picking up the watch, "i wanted to show you this yesterday, but it wasn't finished. This is my party watch!"

Anne was interested. "What's it do?"

"So you see how it has two modes?" She asked, pointing to the nob. Twist it left, and it turns to confetti mode. It shoots confetti! Turn it to the right, and it shoots silly string!"

"I see why you called it the party watch," anne said, chuckling

"Yeah, it wasn't finished yesterday because I hadn't gotten the pressure for the silly string right and accidentally launched it at my window, and it cracked. I didn't want to give you a weapon."

"Makes since!" Then she paused. "Wait, give?"

"Yeah, this is my present for you!"

"Aww, thanks marcy."

"What did i miss?" Asked Sasha, coming up behind them, shocking Anne and causing her to release the silly string into Sasha's face.

"Very funny," She said, unamused, wiping it off her face as Anne apologised over and over, and Marcy snorted.

———————————————

Anne and marcy were sitting in the back in english class.

"So, what did you want to ask me?" Questioned Marcy.

"Well," Anne began, concerned, "I've been having a really weird day."

"Elaborate on 'weird'."

"So, first off, i wake up and i'm toned."

"Yeah, I noticed that. Nobody gets that in a night and calls it puberty."

"Next, i was nearly ran over, but i jumped on top of the car."

"On top?"

"On top."

A teacher walked up to the two. "Marcy, Anne, i get that one of you is a child prodigy, but you still need to focus in class."

"Ok, miss."

Once she'd walked away, marcy continued. "You managed to jump on top of a car?"

"Yeah. It's like i felt it coming."

"And i'm assuming the next bit is that you had those sticky hands?"

"Yuh huh."

Marcy bit her lip. "I only have one idea of how this could have happened."

Anne raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Remember the spider from yesterday?"

———————————————

After school, Anne went back to marcy's house.

"So you're telling me that the spider did this?"

"Well… I need to check something."

She took out something tiny.

"So i took a sample of the spider's venom glands, (really difficult by the way) and… i've found a retrovirus that shouldn't be there."

"A retrovirus?"

"A normal virus works by connecting it's receptors to your cells and enters inside. There it uses your cell as a factory to make more of itself. However, a retrovirus does something else, and inserts it's own DNA into yours while it's doing it. And it seems that i somehow accidentally created a virus that has the DNA of a spider, that was released when it bit you. But this virus… wasn't a pathogen."

"Pathogen?"

"Wow, you really weren't paying attention in biology. A pathogen is a microorganism that causes harm. This virus… entered your cells, altered your DNA and didn't kill them. It just spread, throughout your entire body, and changed your DNA. The funny thing is that this doesn't follow the rules of science at all, but what the heck? Let's go with it."

"So whoever this spider bites gets powers?"

"Not necessarily. I had the little feller bite me a few times and nothing happened. What's your blood type again?"

"Ummmm… AB negative? I've been told it's not that common…"

"That makes since. AB negative is the least common blood type, and it seems that the Virus is only compatible with it." Marcy paused. "Now comes the problem: what the heck do we do now? Do we tell your parents? Sasha?"

Anne bit her lip. "No. I don't think we should tell my parents. They'd worry. And we aren't the richest. They don't need to be worrying about medical problems right now."

"And Sasha?"

"…I feel really bad about hiding it from her but no. We need to keep this secret."

———————————————

Anne got home. She had just been told she had real life superpowers, and she had no idea what she was supposed to do at this point. Fight crime? Why? It's not like there were any supervillains or anything. Her powers were a freak accident, not something that happened usually.

But if she wanted to keep these powers secret, she had to learn how to use them.

She went out to a back alley nearby. She took a deep breath, looked at a wall, and put her hands up to it. This was the moment of truth. She closed her eyes… and climbed the wall.

"WHOOO!"

She got to the top and ran around the rooftop. She had just scaled a building. A building.

Next step: jumping.

She walked up to the edge of the building, where she looked down to see an alleyway. It was important she got this right. She walked back, and took a runner up.

"WHOOOOOOOO!" She shouted, midair. She was jumping higher and further than humanly possible. If it hadn't happened just that morning she'd have thought she was dreaming.

As soon as she could control these powers she could get back to living a normal life, albeit slightly more fit than before.

And who knows, maybe it gave her a better chance with Sash.

———————————————

Oliver waybright was in a sticky situation.

He'd already gone through a messy divorce and was still feeling the after affects, years on. he wanted to spend more time with his daughter but being the CEO of a multimillion dollar company funded by the government didn't allow that.

Then there was the fact that the government was threatening to take away said funding if he didn't show signs of progress. The super soldier serum wasn't going well at all.

He was being backed into a wall here, and he was afraid that he'd have to go to the extremes to save his company.

He wasn't sure how long this could go on.

Hey again!

So if you couldn't tell, yeah. Sasha's dad is gonna be a stand in for Norman Osborne. Obviously this is gonna become a lil' more difficult in the future...

How've you been liking the story so far? Personally i think it's going a lot better than the previous iteration of the story, which wasn't written out well and kind of rushed.

Hope you enjoyed, stay tuned for the next chapter coming sometime soon!
