Chapter 4

Hungry like the wolf

Kendrix sighed with frustration as she portaled Lobo into Shedquarters, followed by a fully suited Leo portal shifting in as well. It had been the first time to have a moment alone with her boyfriend in a few days, only for this clod to break it up. "What's a Durlan?" she asked.

"They're a particularly nasty race of shapeshifters that love to sow chaos wherever they go," Leo answered, "There's only a few ways to detect them unless they want to be found, all pretty rare."

"They're actually not all that bad, just given a bad reputation by the ones that are," Lobo said. Leo had to give him that one. After all, there had been plenty of bad Kryptonians like Zod and his followers, so there might be people that judge him for that.

"Are they very powerful?" Kendrix asked.

"Nowhere near either of us, but yeah, stronger than most humans," Leo said, indicating himself and Lobo. "You have any Cancellite?" That was a rare chemical that was one of the few ways to find a Durlan.

"Would I be here if I didn't?" Lobo asked. Leo had to admit that while he wasn't genius level, the one thing you couldn't say about the Czarnian was that he always prepared thoroughly for a job.

"You have some kind of image inducer or do you need me to loan you one?" Leo asked, "We need you to look human or this won't work."

Lobo nodded and pushed a button on his belt buckle. A few seconds later, his skin took on the pinkish hue of a human and his eyes changed to a dark brown. "That work?" he asked.

"Uh, unless the Durlan has no idea what you look like, you might want to adjust the inducer to make you look at least a little different," Kendrix suggested. Lobo nodded again as she had a point.

Lobo's first adjustment got a swift No from Leo as he'd cheekily changed to look just like him. "Aw, come on, we could say Kal came for a visit or something," he pointed out.

"I said no," Leo said though this time Kendrix was surprised when he chuckled, "I know you. You'd deliberately not act anything like him to try to give him a bad name around here. Besides, him visiting wouldn't exactly be as easy to explain since we're a little closer to Korugarian space than Earth's now. It'd raise too many eyebrows. Now, be serious."

"Ah, you're no fun," Lobo said but he kept going through the adjustments.

Kendrix was a little confused at most of the interactions between Leo and Lobo so far. One minute they're at each other's throat, the next they were laughing at some silly choice for the image inducer look.

They eventually settled with a blond look for Lobo. Leo handed him a beacon shield. "Try the mall for a while," he suggested, "Good chance the Durlan will at least end up there eventually."

Lobo nodded and after getting a quick picture of him for later reference, Kendrix opened a portal for him into one of the bathrooms at the mall, making sure it was empty. She gave her boyfriend a raised eyebrow as the intergalactic Bounty Hunter left. "What?" he asked.

"I just don't get you sometimes," Kendrix admitted, "Take you and Lobo for example. When he first got here, you were really confrontational and the next thing I know, you're all buddy buddy."

"Yeah, everyone gets that way around Lobo except Batman, who just plain doesn't like him," Leo said, "He seems to instinctively know how what buttons to push but we've also gone to war together and that always makes you at least buddies.

"Don't get me wrong, as I'm not saying we can fully trust him," Leo added, "He's literally stabbed every friend he's ever had in the back and would do it again for the right price, but he's also someone you'd want in a fight as he's even harder to kill than a Kryptonian and is really strong.

"I'm still exhausted from searching for Kal so I'm going to go downstairs and get a little sleep," Leo continued, "Lobo is very good at what he does so I doubt I'll be able to get too much sleep, but I'm hoping for at least a couple of hours.

"That shield I gave Lobo has a new communicator function so check in with him sometimes and come get me if he picks up the Durlan's trail, would you?" Leo asked, "I know you have to get to work soon, so I tied it to your phone.

"Oh and don't take anything he says at face value," Leo warned, "Unless it's directly about the job, which is about the only thing he takes seriously, consider just about everything that comes out of his mouth's a big, fat lie. He also thinks he's charming and is a big-time flirt."

Kendrix nodded. "Sweet dreams, Leo," she said, giving Leo a kiss.

"Mm, with a kiss like that, I'm certain to have some," Leo teased with a grin and wink. Kendrix grinned as she playfully pushed his shoulder. He portal shifted to his room while she portaled to her office.

Angie groaned as she made her way around the mall, doing her rounds. This was such a pain in the ass. She understood she had to do light duty while her shoulder healed yet again, but seriously, why mall cop duty? She was hoping to get a spot on the Metahuman squad they were putting together, not play Paul Blart.

Angie still hadn't gotten the full story about why Johnny went crazy that day but supposed it didn't really matter. He was still walking on eggshells around her, but she made sure he knew that whatever it was that happened, she knew it wasn't him and she still loved him.

Angie needed to get off her feet for a few minutes, so she walked over to a nearby bench where a cute guy was sitting. "Mind if I sit down?" she asked, gesturing to the spot next to him.

"Hey, a beautiful lady like you can sit wherever she wants," the man answered.

Angie blushed. "Thanks," she said and plopped down next to him pretty heavily, "I'm Angie and sorry forgive me if I don't shake hands."

"Logan and it's all right," the man replied, "If you don't mind me asking, what happened?"

"I was in a shootout with some assholes about a week ago and caught a bullet to the shoulder, dislocating it," Angie explained, "Then a couple of days ago, someone broke into my apartment and I re-injured it fighting them off." Not exactly that far from the truth.

"Hope the bastard that did it got their just desserts," Logan replied.

"As far as I can tell, it was the monster the Galaxy Rangers destroyed later that day so yeah, it definitely did," Angie said.

Logan/Lobo nodded, pretending to know what Angie was talking about as he guessed most of the Terra Venture inhabitants kept track of what Trezo and his friends did. He enjoyed talking to her for a while before she had to get back to making her rounds.

A couple of hours later, Lobo was surprised when the shield he was holding started vibrating and nanites flowed up his arm and formed a small device on his ear. "What the Hell?" he murmured.

"Sorry if I caught you at a bad time, Lobo, but Trezo wanted me to check in with you regularly and this was the first chance I've had," came Kendrix's voice, "Any news?"

"I'm not getting anything yet, but he was right," Lobo admitted, "This place is bustling so they're bound to eventually show their face here, so I'll stake it out for a little while longer."

"2 of our friends and teammates are off work now and I can ask them to join you if you could use a couple more pairs of eyes looking for the Durlan," Kendrix offered.

"Wouldn't hurt," Lobo said with a shrug. He generally liked to work alone but appreciated the Galaxy Rangers going out on a limb and didn't seem the type to try to horn in on his bounty.

"I'll get in touch with them and have them head that way as soon as they can," Kendrix promised.

"I'd appreciate it… uh…" Lobo asked. He felt a little awkward as he hadn't actually caught the young woman's name.

"Please call me Pink when we talk over comms or when I'm suited up and our friends will be Red and Yellow," Kendrix explained, "They'll introduce themselves when they meet up with you."

"Gotcha, Pink," Lobo replied.

"I'll call back later unless something comes up," Kendrix promised.

"Gotcha," Lobo said.

"Any idea what this guy looks like?" Johnny asked Maya as they entered the mall.

"Yeah, Kendrix sent a picture," Maya replied, "I think that's him over there." She pointed to Lobo. Johnny nodded and they headed that way.

"Red and Yellow I take it," Lobo said.

"You can call us Johnny and Maya in person but yeah, that's us," Johnny said.

"Call me Logan as the Durlan might know my real name," Lobo said. Johnny and Maya both nodded. He didn't have much info, but he did give them what he knew, including holos of all of the known forms the Durlan has been known to take which they scanned with their watches.

"Are you hungry?" Maya asked.

"Starving," Lobo said.

"Well, let's head over to the Comet Café," Johnny said, pointing to one of the team's favorite hangout spots which was nearby. "It's just over there and we'll still have a good view of most of the floor while we eat. They might even be inside so it could work better."

Lobo hadn't thought of that. From his info, the Durlan had been here since launch, so it certainly could've gotten a job there. Him, Johnny, and Maya walked towards an outside table. Amanda came out a few minutes later, greeting her 2 friends.

"Who's this?" Amanda asked. She'd gotten a quick overview from Leo but had to play dumb. Lobo vaguely knew her as they'd met in the past and nodded politely.

"He's a new friend of ours named Logan," Maya explained.

"I've heard about this place but have been too busy to come check it out, so would you have any suggestions?" Lobo asked. Amanda pointed out a few of the more popular items on the menu and he was quick to choose one of them.

"So, you're Mirinoian, right?" Lobo asked Maya once no one was too close nearby though quietly. She nodded. "I've been there a couple of times a good while back and I loved the jungle there. I was thinking about going back some day." She lowered her head. "Shit, did I say something wrong?"

"Mirinoi and the rest of Maya's people were completely petrified a few weeks ago by a shithead named Furio," Johnny explained quietly as Maya was getting a little too emotional to answer the question.

Lobo's eyes narrowed. He knew and had even done jobs for Furio and Scorpius though he hadn't seen them in almost 200 years and would definitely agree with that assessment. "I'm so sorry to hear that, Maya," he said.

"It's all right as you couldn't have known," Maya said once she could rein her emotions in. She was curious on when Lobo had visited Mirinoi, but figured she'd ask after explaining what had happened to her people and home, which she quickly gave him the lowdown. Johnny had to finish when she started getting emotional again.

"I'm the last known member of my people too so I know exactly how that feels," Lobo said.

"From what Trezo told me, you wiped them out yourself," Johnny said.

"My people were horrible and deserved it," Lobo said, "Trust me, I don't know even a single person that would shed tears for any Czarnians, not even me.

"Even I don't have someone that's a real friend, just people that tolerate me, though Trezo, Superman, and Supergirl tend to treat me halfway decent though I think that's only because we're the last of our people."

"You don't seem so bad," Maya said.

"I appreciate that but it's only because I'm focused on the job," Lobo admitted, "Even Trezo will tell you that when I'm on the job, nothing else matters. Between jobs, I can be as much of a bastard as any one of my people were."

"When did you visit Mirinoi?" Johnny asked.

"I've been a couple times, once almost 200 years ago and again about 15 years ago I think," Lobo replied, "Both were among my quieter jobs, only taking a few hours, and I didn't really interact with any of your people very much." Maya nodded. She'd been trying to remember anything but was coming up empty, so that made sense.

Despite what they'd heard from Trezo and Kendrix, Johnny and Maya surprisingly got along pretty well with Lobo. The former was a little surprised that the bounty hunter had seen Angie earlier.

Eventually, Damon and Kai joined them in keeping a look out and later Kendrix. Leo was still at home, out like a light. Despite the stories they'd heard about Lobo, all of the Galaxy Rangers found themselves surprisingly getting along with him but needed their friends warning to be careful around him.

Suddenly, Kendrix's watch started going off like crazy. Making sure there wasn't anyone close, she looked at the holographic display and frowned. "Uh oh, reports are coming in of an attack in the park," she told the other then turned to Lobo, "We'll be back as soon as we can."

"Since Trezo probably still isn't up, why don't I come with you, just in case you need a heavy hitter?" Lobo offered.

Kendrix hesitated but nodded. It wouldn't hurt to have Lobo there to help out after all. "We'd appreciate it and I'm sure Trezo definitely would, but what about your target?" she asked.

"From what I've gathered, your fights generally aren't that long," Lobo pointed out, "At the very least, I can come back after the monster grows and you need those Zord thingies. Trezo would never forgive me if I let something happen to his team and he's probably the closest thing I've got to a best friend though even he probably just tolerates me."

Even though he'd said that about the whole group, Kendrix knew Lobo was referring to her specifically and was surprised that he seemed honest about Leo being his best friend.

"If it helps, you can count me as a friend," Maya said.

Lobo was struck mute and could at that. Nobody had ever really offered their friendship to him, much less directly like that. Even Leo's friendship was just assumed. "I appreciate that, Yellow," he said figuring it best to go back to being formal.

"Well, let's find a discrete place for us to morph and you can deactivate the image inducer and head that way," Kendrix said. The other Rangers nodded as did Lobo. He didn't like being told what to do, but figured it was more of a suggestion than anything.

After finding a spot, the Galaxy Rangers all morphed and Lobo turned off his image inducer. All but Kendrix were a little surprised to see that he looked so different. She didn't give them any time to react before she opened a portal and they stepped through.

Furio was there with a cadre of Sting Wingers as well as a monster named Bwuxern. "I've got a bone to pick with Furio if you don't mind, but don't hesitate to ask if you need help with the monster," Lobo said. The Galaxy Rangers nodded as he headed for his old acquaintance.

Furio was surprised as while charging up his sword, a hook came out of nowhere behind him and pulled it out of his hand. He spun around and was surprised to see who it was. "Lobo? What are you doing here?" he demanded.

"I told you last time I saw you that Mirinoi was off-limits, Furio, and you knew the reasons why," Lobo growled in reply, "I'm here to carve some justice out of your ass for petrifying it for its natives and especially for my new friend, the Yellow Galaxy Ranger."

"Like you were any better last we saw each other," Furio said, "I hear your reputation has gotten even worse since. Do you think you're working for redemption by fighting me now?

"Join me and we can destroy this place together," Furio offered, "Trezo ultimately doesn't stand a chance against you and the Galaxy Rangers would be easy pickings after that. You know we're good on paying whatever amount you want."

"It is true I'm still a bastard and there is no redemption for all of the bad things I've done in my long life," Lobo admitted, "But Mirinoi was the closest thing I'd ever had to a home, even more than Czarnia, and you took that away from me and now, you are going to pay and I don't mean in currency as there isn't enough in the universe to save your ass."

With that, Lobo sent his hooked chain flying towards Furio. It wrapped around his neck several times, choking him as it restricted almost immediately, before the Czarnian yanked the general towards him, punching him and sending him flying back, then pulled him back and punched him again, kind of like a punching balloon.

After a few more times, Lobo finally got bored and let Furio flop to the ground when he yanked him back. "You'll regret this, Czarnian!" he exclaimed and launched himself at the pale man, who easily dodged the punch his technically bigger opponent threw at him.

"Missed me," Lobo taunted. Furio growled wordlessly as he kept trying to punch or kick him, getting more and more frustrated as each one was dodged easily, like he was standing still.

Furio roared in frustration but knew he stood no chance against Lobo because knew his old partner was at least as strong and resilient as Trezo. "I'll be back and you're going to regret it when I do," he warned before teleporting away. Bwuxern and the Sting Wingers did the same.

The Galaxy Rangers started heading towards Lobo. "Are you alright, Lobo?" Johnny asked.

"Yeah, Furio never came close to touching me and he always was a p… wuss anyway," Lobo said.

Suddenly, Leo portal shifted onto the scene as Trezo, all suited up in his nanite gear. "Damn, sorry I'm late to the party," he said.

"It's all right, Trezo," Johnny said, "Lobo here helped us out in your stead. We appreciate the assist."

Lobo nodded. "You're more than welcome," he said.

"I owe you one, Lobo," Leo said, extending his hand to Lobo.

"And I'll hold you to that," Lobo said, shaking it. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to looking for my bounty."

Leo nodded. "If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask," he said, "I'm going to do a patrol of the city and then I'll be at Shedquarters making some space for you in case this becomes overnight. Call me if you find them or when you're done for the day. I'll keep an eye out for anything suspicious."

"Yeah, I'd say it'll probably take a few days as they're known for hunkering down wherever they go, so much appreciated," Lobo replied, "I think I might stay here to hunt for them for a while but at least someone should still stake out the mall."

"Since we were kind of late to the party earlier, how about you and I sweep the mall, Kai?" Damon offered. Kai nodded. That was decided to be the better bet. They found the bathrooms empty and them and Leo portaled out while Lobo, Johnny, and the ladies patrolled the park.

All in all, the day was somewhat of a bust in they didn't find the Durlan. As promised Leo had a place for Lobo to stay in Shedquarters, about the size of a decent apartment on Earth.

"Whatever you do, don't leave the building unless it's to portal out," Leo said then went on to explain that Shedquarters was in the Phantom Zone most of the time.

Lobo nodded. He'd always heard horror stories about the Phantom Zone, so it was the one place that even he wasn't crazy enough to want to go to. "Hey, about Kal a few days ago, you know it was nothing personal, right?" he asked, "I like you 3, but a job's a job, you know?"

Leo nodded with a grin. "Why do you think I didn't try knocking your teeth out when you first showed up?" he retorted, "Don't worry, we're cool. No telling how long that'll last, but we can at least work together for now."

Lobo couldn't help but laugh at that. He liked Leo a lot. In fact, the job for Braniac had been for him too, but he'd outright refused to come after his buddy and threatened him if he sent anyone else and even only went after Kal to appease him. He found a surprisingly comfy bed waiting for him, so it didn't take him long to fall asleep.

PRLG

For the better part of the next week, Lobo was on the lookout for the Durlan fugitive, sometimes with the others helping him but often by himself. Leo especially tried his best to help him as often as possible, but he also had a lot else to do, including starting a job at a local daycare.

However, Lobo noticed that Maya was avoiding him which was odd as from what the others told him, once she considered someone a friend, she was usually an open book to them in no time. "Something wrong, Yellow?" he asked softly when she took a turn helping him on a patrol around the park.

"You lied to me," Maya said simply.

Lobo shrugged. "I told you, that's kinda what I do though you have me at a bit of a loss," he said, "What did I lie to you about?"

"I heard what you told Furio, that you used to work with him and I'm guessing for Scorp-ass in what sounded like an attempt to enslave my people," Maya answered.

Lobo winced. He'd forgotten Mirinoians had enhanced senses, in this case hearing as sharp as Trezo's if not more in some ways. He hated to talk about this to Maya as it could cost him her friendship, but he could tell she wasn't going to let this go.

"That was more omitting a bad time in my life that I don't talk about and not even Trezo knows of as it was before even his removed great-grandparents a few times were born than a straight up lie," Lobo said.

"I'm always willing to listen if it'll help," Maya offered.

"Later, but not here, where someone could eavesdrop," Lobo said.

Maya nodded. Suddenly, a young girl accidentally ran right into her. "I'm so sorry, ma'am," the girl said.

Maya just smiled. "It's quite all right, sweetheart, but please watch where you're going next time," she said.

The little girl nodded just as a man with dark hair and horn-rimmed glasses came walking up. "I'm so sorry, ma'am, sir," he said, "She was very excited about something and got away from me for a second there."

Maya was about to reply that it was again no problem when her nose caught something off about the man. "It's all right, sir," she said, shaking it off. "Kids these days, right? Just be careful from now on and keep close to your Dad, sweetie."

The man grinned and the girl nodded. "Exactly, now come on, Claire," he said, picking his daughter up. "Mommy's waiting for us to get home."

"Bye," Claire said, waving to Maya and Lobo as her Dad walked off with her in his arms.

"Cute kid," Lobo said. When Maya didn't reply, he noticed she had a strange look on her face. "What's wrong?"

"I think that was the one you're looking for," Maya answered.

"Are you sure?" Lobo asked.

"Well, he might not be them but at the very least, I'm almost 100% positive he's not what he looks like," Maya replied. Lobo nodded. He didn't know there was some way to spot a Durlan by smell but if there was, he wasn't surprised it was her that found them.

"Well, I've got a recording of his face so we need to get back so we can download his image into Trezo's database so that we all know who to look out for," Lobo said.

Maya nodded and they headed for an out of the way spot before she opened a portal and they stepped through into Shedquarters. Leo was there working out. "Oh hey," he said, "Sorry, I just finished my patrol and wanted to hit the heavy bag to destress and then I was going to join you."

"It's cool and we think we have the Durlan," Lobo said then explained what had happened.

Leo grinned at Maya. "Awesome catch," he said.

"Thanks," Maya said.

Leo didn't see Maya blush, but Lobo did. 'Is there something going on with them?' he mused then shook his head. 'No, him and Kendrix seem to be pretty serious, she seems to be with that Johnny guy too, and she doesn't look to be the kind to sleep around and I know he's not.'

Lobo handed Leo a small device he took from his image inducer and he scanned it into his watch. Handing it back to him, he began typing into his watch's virtual keyboard to download it to his mainframe and it soon comes up on the monitor.

"Hmm, I don't know why, but I feel like I should know this guy from somewhere," Leo murmured then shook his head, "Eh, who knows how often I might've passed him on the street. Did you get anything off the little girl, like if she's Durlan or at least half?"

Maya shook her head. "I think she's fully Earth-born human, but how could that be?" she asked.

"Well, for him to be here, he must've taken the look before launch and came onboard," Leo said then turned to Lobo, "Do you know how long he's been hiding from your client? Could he have been on Earth for a good while now? If so, he might've adopted her."

Lobo shrugged. "All my client said is that they've been looking for this guy for quite some time and had just received word he was here, so it's possible," he replied.

"I'm going to run his likeness through the citizenry database, but it'll probably be a while as that's a lot of people between crew and civilians," Leo said.

"Would you mind telling me about your first time on Mirinoi while we wait?" Maya asked Lobo, who sighed when Leo turned, curious.

"Wait, you've been on Mirinoi?" Leo asked.

"Once about 15 years ago and I lived there for a while a little over 200 years ago," Lobo said, "What I said about the visit 15 years ago wasn't a lie. I was barely there 2 nights and no natives saw me…"

"While the other, you tried to help enslave my people," Maya interjected.

"Wait, you're over 200 years old?" Leo asked.

"Closer to 350 though I forget the exact numbers but yeah though that's only human years," Lobo said, "In Czarnian years, its more like almost 35. I was a stupid kid in Czarnian years when I joined Scorpius and tried to take Mirinoi with Furio and the other Generals. I know that's no excuse, but…"

"What made you stop?" Maya asked.

"Believe it or not, I fell in love with a Mirinoian woman by the name of Zurýxia," Lobo said, "She convinced me to stop and help them fight off Scorpi-ass' goons."

Maya's eyes went wide. "You were Ōkami?" she asked. That made sense to Leo as like Lobo, it was yet another name for wolf.

"How do you know that name?" Lobo asked, shocked.

"Zurýxia was my great-grandmother, a few times removed of course," Maya answered, "There were tales of you passed down through many generations, Ōkami the dark-eyed ghost from the stars."

"Was Zurýxia all right after I left?" Lobo asked.

"She lived for many years and had many children, yes, but it is said she never quite got over you," Maya said.

Lobo smiled at that. "Same," he said, "I hated having to leave her."

"Why did you leave?" Leo asked.

"I struck a deal with Scorpi-ass that if I left Mirinoi, he would stop the invasion, otherwise I'd burn his life down around him," Lobo replied, "Him and that piece of shit Furio knew me well enough to know I wasn't bluffing, so they were quick to make the deal.

"You said you went back not long ago though," Maya pointed out, "Could they have found out and that's why they invaded?"

"I doubt it as while I went back briefly about 15 years ago for a bounty, there shouldn't be any way they could've found out about that," Lobo said, "Now that you know, do you still want to be my friend, Maya?"

Maya didn't hesitate in nodding. "You might've done bad things to my people in Scorpius' employ but made up for it by helping them by making the deal to make the invaders back off," she said, "I'm still honored to call you a friend."

"As am I," Leo said. He'd never admitted it to anyone before now, but while Lobo could get on his nerves as much as anybody, he did consider him something of a friend and not just because they were in his case among the last of their people.

"I appreciate it," Lobo said.

"Wait, if you were in love with Zurýxia and vice versa, would that make you Maya's…" Leo began to ask. Maya's jaw dropped as she hadn't even considered that she could be related to Lobo.

Lobo shook his head. "The truce and my exile came before Zurýxia and I could… well, consummate," he said, "Besides, it's rare that a Czarnian has enough genetic compatibility with a member of another species to be able to be able to produce a child with them."

"Too bad," Maya said with a smile, "I wouldn't have minded even just a small part of my DNA being linked to you."

"And I would've been proud to have at least one descendant like you," Lobo replied with a grin of his own.

"If you 2 want to go get something to eat while we're waiting, you can go ahead," Leo said, "I need to keep an eye out for a match and I'll call you when one comes up."

Maya and Lobo nodded. "We'll bring you back something if it's not done when we're finished eating," the Yellow Galaxy Ranger promised.

"I'd appreciate it," Leo replied. With that, Maya and Lobo portaled out.

PRGJ

"So, how long have you had a thing for Trezo?" Lobo asked.

"I don't know what you mean," Maya said.

"Yeah, sure you don't," Lobo said, grinning. "You just happen to blush like that for every guy that compliments you?"

Maya hung her head. No one on the team seemed to have figured out she had a crush on Trezo… especially not Johnny, thank God… so how did this stranger figure it out in no time?

"All right, I do but please don't tell anyone, especially not him or Johnny," Maya said, "It's just… he's so handsome and unbelievably strong. You should've seen him smacking Furio around on Mirinoi. It was hilarious though not like you the other day… but it's just a silly crush while I love Johnny."

"Hey, my lips are sealed," Lobo assured Maya, "But you might want to talk it out with him… with both of them, really… and clear the air. You'd be surprised how much that might help you get over the crush and fully embrace your relationship with that Johnny guy. He's not the type to judge and I'm sure Johnny isn't either."

Maya nodded. Lobo had given her a lot to think about. "Thanks," she said. Suddenly, she spun around. "He's here, but I'm not sure where he is."

"Are you sure?" Lobo asked.

"Positive," Maya said, "You have the more covert communication device, so you should call Trezo and have him bring as many of the others as he can get hold of."

Lobo nodded and started to activate the beacon shield's comm when the man from the other day came walking up, his hands held high. "I'm not here to fight," he said softly, "I know who you are, Lobo, and that you're here for me."

"How do you know me?" Lobo demanded, "My image inducer is supposed to be foolproof."

"Durlans are the masters of mixing in and can spot someone trying to a mile away," the Durlan said. Lobo growled with frustration but had to admit that was probably true. "Please don't take me in."

"I'm afraid it's not part of my job to question the contract," Lobo said, "If you are my target, I'm taking you in, though it's nothing personal. You can figure it out on Durla."

"I know and I would, but my daughter…" the Durlan began, "Her mother died last year and I don't have anyone to leave her with, here or back on Earth."

"Can't you take her back with you?" Maya asked.

"Durla's atmosphere is toxic to most species, basically any that don't have adaptive immune system like Durlans, Czarnians, and Kryptonians," Lobo explained, "If she is fully human, she wouldn't last long.

"I might have an idea." Maya turned to see Leo coming walking up, fully suited up as Trezo, the rest of the Galaxy Rangers as well. He gave her a subtle wink and brief smile. "My cousin Kara's parents often take in foster kids. She can take her back to Earth so they can keep an eye on her until you can hopefully clear this up."

The Durlan was surprised at the offer. He'd heard nothing but good things about Trezo and his family even from some of their worst enemies, so he knew this was probably the best way to go about it. "If they can, then I'm more than willing to go quietly," he said.

"Let's go retrieve her and we can go from there," Lobo said. With a plan now in mind, they headed out.

Maya couldn't help but cry a little when the Durlan embraced his daughter. Lobo, now uncomfortably sporting a policeman outfit, was standing by. Supergirl was also there to take the girl to the Danvers. "Why do you have to leave, Dad?" the little girl asked.

"My family is part of something illegal and I was supposed to testify against them years ago, but got cold feet," the Durlan answered, "I ran for a long time… until I met your mother.

"Now, I hope I can settle this and get back to you soon, but until I do, this nice young woman here…" the Durlan said, gesturing to Supergirl. "Has agreed to place you with a good family back on Earth. Be the good girl I know you to be for them until I see you again."

The little girl nodded. "I will, Daddy," she said, "I love you, Daddy."

"I love you too," the Durlan said, hugging and kissing her one last time before handing her off to Supergirl, who portaled back to Earth.

With the little girl gone, Lobo sighed with relief as he deactivated his image inducer. "Always did hate posing as a lawgiver," he growled, "You ready?" The Durlan nodded and Leo opened a portal to the Czarnian's ship.

Before he left, Lobo handed the beacon shield back to Leo. "Call me the old fashioned way if you need help with Scorpi-ass and Furio," he said, "It's been a blast, Trezo, and be ready for when I need to call in that favor."

Leo nodded and grinned. "As long as it's not something too crazy or illegal, you know I'll be up for whatever it is," he said.

"Oh and before I go, remember what I said, Maya," Lobo said. Maya nodded. They all shook his hand before he lead the Durlan through the portal.

"You know, after everything I heard about his reputation, Lobo wasn't half bad," Damon said.

"Yeah, he has his moments where he's not a complete bastard and you mostly caught him at a high point," Leo agreed.

"So, what did Lobo mean when he said that to you, beautiful?" Johnny asked a little later when he met up with Maya and they headed to meet Leo and Kendrix for a double date.

Maya hesitated. She always tried to tell the truth, but while she did plan to do as Lobo suggested and talk to Johnny and Trezo, she didn't think now was the right time. "Don't worry, it wasn't anything you really need to worry about right now," she said. He nodded, figuring she'd tell him when she was ready. They kissed again before heading out.

Somewhere outside of known time and space…

Time Trapper felt a strange presence somewhere out there in the entropy, something that shouldn't exist here. Every bit of matter should either be broken down or in the process of quickly being broken down, but this presence seemed to be able to keep the process from happening.

Time Tripper cast a bubble around himself to hold off the entropy, before flying towards the spot where they could sense the presence. When they got there, they found a large creature there, seemingly dead, and their eyes widened.

'That shouldn't be possible,' Time Trapper thought, 'Why is it here?' Suddenly, a thought popped into their mind. 'Hmm, maybe this a good thing. I could use it against the…'

Suddenly, the creature came back to life and roared at Time Trapper as it slowly made its way towards them. Knowing just how dangerous the creature was, the villain panicked and hit it with a time spell, sending it to some random place in time.

To be continued…
