(7)-Leaving Home.
Outside, a yellow taxi-cab was waiting for Kyle. He had called the Prairie Grove cab company yesterday and ordered a taxi to pick him up the next morning at 11:00 and take him to the train station. Wasting no time, the 18-year old boy ran up to the taxi on it's right side, opened the back door and placed his backpack and duffle-bag inside before getting in himself, closing the door afterwards.
"Where to?" The male cab driver asked.
"Prairie Grove Express." Kyle said while putting on his seat-belt, addressing the name of the train station. Before calling the cab company, he called the train station and asked if there were any trains leaving the state of Kansas the next morning, and when he found out there was one, he made reservations to board it the next day. He still planned to do his journey on foot, but he wanted to start it out of his home-state.
The driver backed the cab up, turned around and drove off down the dirt road.
As the cab drove away, Kyle turned and looked out the back windshield. He gazed at his childhood farme-house home and saw his mother run out the front door and wave at him with her right hand. Kyle placed his right hand on the windshield and watched as the house and his mother got smaller and smaller...as the cab drove out of sight.
