The Mahoroba Shopping Center seemed as busy as ever with numerous people carrying bags of recently purchased items, young women trying out clothes and free samples and the food court filled with long lines of hungry customers waiting for their meals. Contrary to many skeptics that physical stores and boutiques were dead or dying in favor of online shopping, the Mahoroba outdoor mall, especially on a bright day with the sunlight beaming down gently.

One particular customer, a blonde dressed in a sleeveless turquoise top with a bow at the neckline, a pleated light-colored skirt, a white ribbon in her hair and a watch on her left wrist, looked around with her amethyst eyes for a special item.

The 25 year old Himeko Himemiya hoped she would find the gift she wanted for her wife, but the mall seemed to flood with people in all sorts of directions.

"I hope Chikane-chan found someplace to park."

Due to how crowded the mall was (all the more surprising since it was a weekday), Himeko insisted on going on ahead while Chikane parked the car or settled on using the valet. At first, the two considered using one of the limousines the Himemiya family owned, using a cab or simply walking. The various alternatives were quickly dismissed: a limousine would bring too much unwanted attention, a cab could be dangerous and the mall was simply too far for walking.

Himeko looked around, but failed to notice a large man to her right.

"Watch where you're going!" He shouted.

Himeko fell back from the large man's brush of the shoulder. She would have collided and fallen backwards toward the stairs if a pair of arms hadn't caught her.

"Easy there!" A warm, gentle voice greeted gasped, even as the figure helped place her back on her feet.

Himeko could not forget her childhood friend with jet black short hair, golden eyes, slender figure gazing gently at her. The only difference was a large bushy black mustache covering his top lip, looking more like a caterpillar that managed to sneak onto his face. The official hair complemented his policeman uniform, viridian blue complete with a badge and police hat.

"Souma-kun!" Himeko giggled. It had been years since she saw him!

"Officer Souma Oogami, at your service!" Souma winked and gave a thumbs up.

Ever since he graduated from Ototachibana academy, Souma committed himself to learning criminal law and justice and enrolled in the Mahoroba police academy where he graduated with flying colors. Himeko suspected that his past about his brother influenced this decision. She was proud he had risen so far from where he came from.

"Wow!" Himeko said. "Are you some important detective helping to crack a case?"

"Nah!" Souma grinned while scratching the back of his head. "They usually have me writing the parking tickets!"

"I guess even heroes have to start somewhere small," Himeko giggled behind her hand.

"That's a positive way to look at things," Souma nodded. "Are you sure you're okay? That other person was quite rude."

"I guess after all this time, I'm still a damsel in distress."

"No, no. Everyone needs help now and again. I'm just here to lend a helping hand."

"You're a credit to your uniform, Officer Oogami!" Himeko chuckled.

"Well, don't let it get around but my wife says I have something of a hero complex," Souma gave a fake whisper.

"How is Mako-chan?" Himeko giggled.

Less than a year ago, Makoto married Souma Oogami and became Makoto Oogami. Himeko couldn't have been happier, seeing her two close friends find romance with one another and having the honor of being Mako-chan's bridesmaid.

"She's great!" Souma chuckled. "She's teaching track and field at Ototachibana. Thanks to her, they might compete at Nationals!"

Himeko smiled upon hearing this. Mako-chan always had this habit of bringing out the best in people and inspiring them. Himeko's old roommate was there to help when Himeko couldn't remember Chikane but did remember that emptiness in her heart. Knowing that the brunette was now helping other students brought comfort to Himeko.

"That's wonderful!" Himeko gasped. "I'm glad the two of you are doing so well."

"We should be the ones thanking you," he replied. "You brought us together."

Makoto teased Himeko for turning down the great Jin-sama and when Himeko introduced her roommate to him, Makoto and Souma hit it off.

"What are you doing here, Ms. High Society?" Souma patted her head. "Wanting to see how us commoners are getting along?"

Himeko, despite marrying into the illustrious Himemiya clan, never considered herself to be high society. If anything, she thought she was bringing down the family name, given she was the first woman to marry a Himemiya daughter.

"It's not like that!" Himeko smiled. "I'm looking for a gift for Chikane-chan!"

"Need help?" Souma asked.

"I wouldn't want to impose on your police work."

"I'm pretty sure I've written up enough parking tickets for today," Souma said. "I've also got time to spare for an old friend."

One of the things Himeko loved about Souma (platonically, that is), was his kind nature. Not once but twice, Souma accepted Himeko's rejection and still stayed her friend.

"Alright, then let's go," Himeko said, pointing to the item she was looking for on her smartphone. "It used to be in this location, but I think they moved it without telling anyone."

"It just happens I know where the new location is," Souma smiled. "Follow me."

As the two of them walked through the busy mall, she couldn't help her feel a plethora of nostalgia and warm feelings, traveling alongside her childhood friend. He was the one who had done everything from protecting her to letting her go that made him appreciate her more and more. She felt sorry for rejecting him, but she knew she only had one person in mine who she romantically loved.

"Souma-kun?" Himeko spoke up, careful not to trip again.

"Yes?" Souma turned to her and smiled.

"Thank you for…"

Himeko paused. In this world, the events concerning Ame no Murakumo, the Orochi and the Miko never happened; Souma would have no recollection of betraying the Orochi, protecting Himeko and saving the world. All that Souma knew was that he was the childhood friend who grew up to be the school idol only to be rejected by Himeko. What would Himeko thank him for?

Then, Himeko told the truth.

"Souma-kun… thank you for everything," Himeko answered. Technically, this wasn't a lie; Himeko just omitted the 'everything' in this situation included but wasn't limited to protecting Himeko from the Orochi, helping Himeko pilot Ame no Murakumo, literally dying to save her, staying friends with her and saving the world.

"No thanks are necessary!" Souma smiled. "A Hero doesn't do things for gratitude; a Hero does things because it's the right thing to do!"

"You really mean that, don't you?" Himeko giggled.

"From the bottom of my heart!" Souma grinned widely.

"In retrospect, we should have taken the limousine."

Chikane Himemiya, wearing a sleeveless white dress with a high waistline accentuated by a belt paired with a circular buckle and her bright yellow headband, looked around the busy mall for her wife. The parking and the angry drivers irritated her and, while she didn't want Himeko to go by herself ahead (although her wife insisted) Chikane also did want to subject her wife to the angry honking horns or the other drivers yelling profanities at her. Even the line for the valet would have taken at least 10 minutes.

Miraculously, Chikane found an open parking spot but it was a timed spot that took only physical money for payment. She needed to find Himeko as quickly as possible and get out to avoid getting a ticket. Gazing around, she attempted to find the turquoise top her wife wore

"There's Himeko!" She sighed in relief until she saw a slender police officer next to her.

Chikane gasped. She recognized Souma Oogami in a police officer's uniform.

Suddenly, a painful memory flashed before Chikane's eyes.

Chikane rode Saint Just, escaping Miyako's trap as the sun began to gently set into a beautiful orange. She needed to speak with Himeko and talk with her. Chikane didn't care what the subject was. After Miyako showed those horrible and untrue images of innocent Himeko, Chikane needed to find some way to return to reality.

But, when she stopped Saint Just and looked up at the night sky, stars shimmering brightly, she witnessed Take no Yamikazuchi holding two figures in its hand: Himeko and Souma.

And Chikane's heart sank, seeing Souma and Himeko share a passionate kiss. Not like the forbidden and unwanted kiss Chikane gave Himeko on their birthday, but a romantic kiss, a kiss of mutual affection.

Chikane felt her right hand reach for her chest and clutched the fabric covering it. She closed her eyes, attempting to block that painful memory.

"It wasn't Himeko's fault; she didn't remember what had happened in our past lives. I'm the one to blame for not telling her."

"I think Souma-kun… might be the other half of my seashell…"

Chikane winced remembering those cutting words.

"No, that's not right. Himeko wouldn't betray me like that," Chikane attempted to calm herself. "Himeko married me. She is my wife. I should trust her. She's just going along with her childhood friend."

Seeing the young police officer stirred up very familiar emotions that she thought she had gone rid of, if not suppressed: anger, jealousy, insecurity, and all sorts of negativity associated with just the mere sight of him. The thing was, he wasn't even a bad person.

"How am I jealous of him? I thought I was past these feelings."

The billionaire still remembered, and was convinced in their previous lives that the blonde and the young police officer would've made a good couple. She recalled their gossiping schoolmates had suggested that Chikane and Souma would have been a good romantic pair and had shuddered at the very premise. It was one of the reasons Himeko hesitated to date Souma in the first place.

Chikane remembered how Souma's words had stung.

"That's right, what if it were you? What would you have done? If you care so much, why don't you hurry up and revive Ame no Murakumo?"

It reminded her how useless and powerless she was as a Miko and how, despite her promise to keep Himeko safe, she failed until she became an Orochi. He wasn't wrong but it still upset Chikane. Were his words, which he regretted a moment later, one of the reasons she decided to become an Orochi?

"What are you doing?" Chikane remembered hearing herself say. "You're so weak. You said that you'd protect her, but look at you. Oogami Souma-kun, I wonder what you are. Not an Orochi that kills Priestesses… nor a knight that protects your dear Princess. Such a useless creature. So disappear from our sight!"

Chikane told herself these were lies; falsehoods meant to trick Souma and Himeko. But she knew the truth; she wanted to hurt Souma. She enjoyed taunting him and taking Himeko's virginity away from him. She loved stealing Take no Yamikazuchi from him, if only for her pettiness.

Was wanting to have Himeko kill her just a convenient excuse? Didn't Chikane really want Souma to suffer?

And yet…

"Stop this!" He replied. "Even if you're an Orochi, I don't want to hurt you, Himemiya!"

He refused to attack her for one simple reason: Himeko's happiness. He really was as heroic and kind as Himeko described him to be.

"There are still things you two want to say to each other, right?"

In their previous lives, Souma helped buy time for the two Miko to have one last goodbye.

"It would be easier to dislike him if he wasn't such a good person," Chikane thought to herself before realizing what she had thought. Dislike because he was a good person? If anything, those were traits to admire him for. In a past life, Chikane feared and dreaded Souma would steal Himeko away from her as a romantic rival. How could she still feel this way now? It was so strange. Chikane's mind knew Himeko would never betray her but Chikane's heart still panged with guilt.

"Feeling jealous?" Chikane opened her eyes and turned to see a slender brunette with emerald green eyes and a band tied to a lock of her auburn hair. Although Chikane had never personally met Himeko's former roommate, her wife described her in vivid detail to the point where Chikane could recognize Makoto Oogami (formerly Makoto Saotome) before her.

"Oogami-san…" Chikane said.

"Please, call me Mako-chan!" The woman said, wearing a bright red tracksuit with white stripes. "Sorry about the clothes; I'm coaching some students and I couldn't change clothes."

"It's no trouble," Chikane shook her head. "I apologize if I thought ill of your husband."

"Thought ill of my husband?" Makoto repeated. "Wow, Himeko said you were a classy lady but she wasn't exaggerating!"

"Apologies," Chikane said, feeling an embarrassed flush spread across her cheeks. "Himeko tells me to loosen up. How exactly did you-"

"The reason I know that is because I feel the same way when I see my husband with Himeko," Makoto interrupted. "Sometimes I can see them making out and cheating."

This hit a nerve with Chikane.

"Himeko would never do such a thing!" Chikane nearly shouted but collected herself at the last moment. Her poise nearly abandoned her.

"That's what I keep telling myself; Himeko would never do that and neither would my husband. But telling my heart that is another story."

The billionaire didn't realize she would find someone who understood her present feeling quite so well as she did talking to the other woman. Would Makoto have spoken so kindly to her if she knew that Chikane, in her previous life as the Orochi Miko had killed Makoto?

"Neither my former roommate or my husband are the perfect human beings as everyone makes them out to be; they're human just the same as you or me."

Chikane kept forgetting that; she couldn't help but see her wife in this angelic light.

"Take it from an actual green eyed monster; we all get jealous sometimes and that's okay!"

Chikane took a moment to realize that the 'green eyed monster' Makoto was referring to was herself. The billionaire only remembered the former track star had emerald green eyes when she looked at her.

"So quit beating yourself up!" Makoto grinned. "You're only human, after all!"

A weight had been lifted from Chikane's chest as she took a deep breath. Somehow talking about this, or rather listening Makoto talk about this, had eased Chikane's mind.

"Thank you… Mako-san," China said.

"Mako-san?" The brunette repeated. "I guess that'll do for now, Chikane-san?"

Chikane realized she would have to get used to being referred to by her first name when talking with Makoto.

"There it is!" Himeko pointed to a booth with a single person operating it. "Thank you, Souma-kun!"

"It's an officer's duty to assist!" Souma tipped his police hat.

(Cringe Alert. You were warned.)

"Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan

Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan

Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan"

"Oops!" Souma cried. "That's me!"

He took out his smartphone and answered the call. Himeko took a second to realize the song was Souma's ringtone.

"I need to take this call," the police officer said. "Will you be alright on your own for now?"

The blonde knotted and went towards the booth while the police officer took the phone call.

"Officer Oogami speaking!" Souma said.

Himeko, in the meantime, went to the familiar booth and hoped it wouldn't take too much time.

"I really hope Chikane-chan loves this present!" She thought to herself.

"What are you-?" Chikane asked, wondering why the track coach was calling her husband while he was in plain sight.

Makoto shushed Chikane and, while still holding her smartphone and not hanging up, ran up and tackled her husband from behind, playfully grabbing him by his neck.

"Gotcha!" Makoto laughed, giving her husband a kiss on the cheek.

"One of these days, you're going to run out of ways to surprise me!" Souma heartily chuckled before placing his wife down on her feet, turning around and kissing her on the lips.

"Look who I ran to!" Makoto cheerfully pointed behind her back, giving the signal for Chikane to step forward.

Chikane stared at Souma Oogami, still unsure how to approach him.

She realized she never apologized to Souma for stealing Take no Yamikazuchi or wounding him on that stormy night. Chikane apologized constantly to Himeko for the horrible things she did as the Orochi Miko (to which Himeko reassured her and forgave her) but she never asked for Souma's forgiveness.

Did she need to? Technically 'this' Souma never went through or remembered the events of the Orochi attacking. And the Souma from their past lives never seemed to resent or hold that fact against Chikane.

"Greetings… Oogami-san," Chikane said. Before, in their previous lives, Chikane had gotten used to addressing Souma by his first name. However, in that life, she had known him through school activities and even crossed paths with one another in the tennis club. When Himeko's fate as a Miko and Souma's fate as an Orochi were revealed, Chikane had gotten comfortable addressing him casually.

In this life, however, the two were strangers. Chikane had remembered everything that Souma did in the previous life, but she kept her distance from him. Even if she knew him through Himeko and through her memories, Chikane wasn't sure she had the right to call him by his first name. Oogami was formal and distant enough as not to step on any toes.

"I wished to thank you for helping Himeko," Chikane smiled. This wasn't a lie; Chikane was grateful someone as honest, noble and strong as Souma was there to help Himeko when Chikane was absent. Chikane simply omitted the details of his help: turning against the Orochi, protecting them from enemy attacks and giving the two of them time to spend together.

"And we have something to say to you," Souma said, smiling along with his wife.

Chikane felt herself swallow hard, worried what the couple would say next.

"Thank you for taking care of our Himeko!" Souma and Makoto said in unison.

"Jinx!" Mako said to her husband. "You owe me a soda!"

"Aw, shucks!" Souma snickered. "We know Himeko can be a bit of a handful."

"Not to mention a klutz!" Makoto said in a faux whisper, complete with a cupped hand.

"But we know she's in good hands with you," The police officer said, giving a confident nod.

Seeing the police officer and his wife give her the confidence and reassurance she needed, to have her wife's childhood friend give his approval somehow relieved the billionaire of her guilt and her inner pain. Her face never showed it, but she felt a world of her lift from her shoulders.

"Thank you… Oogami-san," Chikane grinned, feeling whatever stone had sank in her stomach disappear.

"Please, call me Souma!" He smiled, holding a hand out to shake, Western style. "We are friends, after all!"

"Friends…" Chikane heard the word but it never carried so much weight before. Chikane, before becoming a Miko and regaining her memories, kept others at a distance, save for her mother and father. At best, Chikane had acquaintances but never friends… until Himeko reentered her world again.

"Friends…" Chikane smiled, taking the police officer's hand and shaking it. "Souma-san."

"Souma-san?" He repeated back as he released Chikane's hand.

"Yeah, it's a habit of hers," Makoto said. "One of these days, we'll help her break it."

"Careful," Souma said, kissing the back of Makoto's hand. "When my wife says something will happen, she's committed to it!"

"Chikane-chan!" Himeko threw her arms around Chikane's neck and giggled, carrying the paper shopping bag in one hand. Souma and Makoto stepped out of the way, so as not to interfere with Himeko's grand entrance. Before Chikane could give her a warm greeting back, she felt Himeko cupping her face and kissing her on the lips.

For all the teasing the Himemiya Manor maids gave Himeko for constantly blushing (Otoha had been caught saying out loud that Himeko may have had some sort of medical condition), Chikane felt blood rush to her own cheeks whenever Himeko kissed her. As they parted for air, Chikane's blue eyes darted back and forth, wondering if they had received any negative attention. However, most of the mall goers had been preoccupied with staring at their smartphones, discussing recent purchases or complaining about their food (one customer was loudly complaining how there was far too much rice in her Tonkatsu Donburi and how it completely threw the rice to meat ratio off).

Both Chikane and Himeko knew that between the two of them, Chikane had the most reservations when it came to their romantic relationship. If it wasn't the stigma of homosexuality, it was Chikane's guilt over her past actions. The blue-haired billionaire convinced herself, at least in their past life, that she wasn't worthy of love or affection, least of all from Himeko. Chikane used to believe that her sins tainted her soul to the point beyond the point of redemption and that she didn't deserve love, not from strangers and not from Himeko.

Even then, Chikane didn't particularly mind or care about other people's opinions of her; she was the Himemiya heiress and her vast wealth, beauty and popularity usually shielded her from criticism. But, she feared that Himeko, being from a commoner family, would receive unfair hatred from others.

Himeko didn't care. Her words of not being ashamed or embarrassed were as true today as the moment she said them at the shrine. Chikane worried that openly showing affection as homosexuals would open Himeko to harm or scorn but no such thing happened. Even the small children running around were more concerned with their toys or a movie they watched.

Had things changed so much in Mahoroba that the sight of two women kissing, least of all Chikane Himemiya kissing someone, didn't even warrant so much as a side glance from one's smartphone?

"Did you find what you were looking for, dear?" Chikane asked.

"I did!" Himeko smiled, pulling out her present from the paper bag. "Last time, the engraver took a long time but this time, he was able to do it in a flash. I'm happy he was able to."

"Engraver?" Chikane thought before recognizing Himeko's gift.

Chikane recognized Himeko's present immediately: the tourmaline birthstone engraved into a crescent moon necklace and the words Chikane Himemiya carved into it.

It was identical to the necklace Himeko had given her that stormy night during their past lives. Chikane wondered if Himeko pushed past memory to the darkest corners of her mind or if she had forgotten about it. No, Himeko did, in fact, remember it, down to the last detail. If Chikane were in Himeko's place, she would have had nothing to do with that.

"Tourmaline: joy, diligence, perseverance, conquering sorrow and becoming happy," Himeko said. "For my brave and wonderful Chikane-chan who suffered so much to protect me."

Chikane thought about that word: suffered. How did Himeko put Chikane's suffering before her own? Chikane literally assaulted Himeko, nearly broke the blonde, but Himeko insisted that Chikane had the worse fate.

"Do you like it?" Himeko wore a sun necklace, with an opal stone and the words Himeko Himemiya carved into it.

"I love it," Chikane smiled. "I always loved it. I wish-" Chikane would have gone on and on for the litany of things she desired: for her to have been open about her feelings from the start, for her not to be destined to be a Miko of Kannazuki, for her to have been able to revive Ame no Murakumo their past lives and not do those heinous actions.

Himeko put a gentle hand, silently stopping Chikane's protest.

"I know, Chikane-chan," HImeko said. "What's important is this moment right now, okay? No matter what happens in the future, no matter how bad you feel, I will never give up on you, even if you give up on yourself."

"Thank you, Himeko…" Chikane pressed her forehead against her wife's. Himeko stood on her toes and gave Chikane a warm kiss on the lips.

As Chikane and Himeko shared a warm moment together, the other couple stood at a distance and smiled.

"Should we rudely interrupt them?" Makoto leaned against her husband's shoulder.

"Careful," Souma said. "Chikane-san's arrows hurt."

"Quit whining," Makoto tapped him on the shoulder. "You got away with some scrapes; she killed me!"

"It's not a competition," Souma said. The young police officer recalled the lengths and depths Himemiya went to protect Himeko: becoming an Orochi and attacking humanity.

"So when did you remember everything?" Makoto asked.

"Oh, about a month after Himeko and Chikane-san reunited. Then, I started making sense of the dreams keeping me up at night."

Makoto gave a faux gasp.

"An entire month?" She said. "It was about a week for me."

The police officer was surprised when he learned his wife had learned about their past lives, and he helped make sense of everything, explaining everything in excruciating detail to her. At first, she was quite confused, but when he explained more and more, she seemed to nod and understand. Although, the parts with the giant robots still tend to throw her off.

"Again, not a competition."

"You think we should tell them eventually?" Makoto asked.

"Nah," Souma shook his head. "I figured she does a good enough job beating herself up. And Himeko would just have to cheer her up again. Despite being a billionaire, Chikane-san can be quite the pessimist when you get to know her. Himeko's the only one who could cheer her up. And they're not the only ones that can keep a secret."

"Aww, how sweet of you!" Makoto gave her husband a kiss on the lips.

"Besides," Souma smiled. "I may or may not already have issued a parking ticket for a Mercedes MNK 1010 belonging to one Chikane Himemiya."

Given how rich she was, it would be no more punishment than paying a single penny for littering. Still, the law was law.

"Oh, ho, ho!" Makoto laughed. "Did Mr. Squeaky clean Souma Oogami actually do something petty in his lifetime?"

"I'm just a humble servant of Justice!" Souma winked.

(Cringe alert. You were warned.)

"Chikane-chan, are you tired?" Himeko asked her wife, before planting a peck on her cheek. "We can go home if you want to."

"I can stay a little longer," Chikane smiled while lacing her fingers with Himeko's. "Besides, you haven't seen your friends in so long so I figured it would be nice for us all to catch up."

Chikane figured a parking ticket would pale in comparison if it meant being in good company.

Suddenly, a girlish squeal caught the couple's attention. They ran forward to see the police officer point to a toy figure in delight while his wife groaned upon seeing this. The girlish squeal apparently came from Souma.

"Oh no…" Makoto groaned.

"What's wrong, Mako-chan?" Himeko asked.

Behind the glass container, Souma pointed to a statue of a muscular young man with a well-defined, athletic build with blonde spiky hair, two-toned, with light and dark shades. The statue wore a black headband with a golden emblem and wore tattered shorts and a belt. Its left arm and part of his torso are covered in dark, demonic markings, indicating his partial transformation alongside one black wing. It carried a large, black sword. Most notable were the statue's different colored eyes, the human side possessing green and the dark side tinted red.

"The Limited Edition 1/6th scale Asta Statue!" Souma said the same way a small child obsessed over something shiny. "I thought they only sold these online."

"Are-are you crying, Souma-kun?" Himeko asked.

"Tears of joy, Himeko," Souma wiped his eyes. "Tears of joy. Do you know how rare it is for Mahoroba to stock any Black Clover merchandise?"

Chikane, confused at what Souma was referring to, spoke up.

"What is-" Chikane began.

Makoto began to cough and shake her head furiously when Souma was still distracted. She created a large 'X' with her forearms.

Chikane realized that, for whatever reason, Makoto did not want Chikane to finish that question. The blue haired billionaire attempted to change her question or the conversation.

Himeko, however, did not notice Makoto's signals.

"What's Black Clover?" Himeko asked.

The auburn haired track star gave an audible groan only to be followed by a loud smacking noise, indicating Makoto slapped her own forehead.

"Oh, it's this great story!" Souma began with no signs of stopping. "There are these two boys named Asta and Yuno and they're abandoned as infants in a small village…"

Chikane, Himeko and Makoto stared at the officer, ranting happily. Apparently, they were going to be there for a while…
