The Party

Jamie had her back to her door as it opened. She was wearing a knee length sky blue bandage bodycon dress, her hair loose falling just shy of her shoulders.

"Alright, Alright, Bones. I'm coming," She shouted over her shoulder. She didn't understand why Bones was making her do this. Stupid party! Well, it wasn't a bad idea. She just didn't like the idea of what it had cost for her to gain her captaincy. And celebrating that felt completely wrong. "I hope you are happy, I put this thing on as per your request - so I swear -"

Jamie spun around. It wasn't Bones who had entered her personal quarters at all. It was Spock. Looking a bit dazed. Jamie wondered what could have caused such a reaction from him. She had never known Spock to look so stumped.

"You look... quite beautiful tonight."

OH!

"Thank you for saying so," Jamie felt her cheeks flushing red. She noticed that he was still in his Starfleet uniform. "Is there something I can do for you? For I thought you would be where everyone else was. Hiding either in the break room or the mess hall."

"I am currently sixteen minutes early for my shift. Given that I have not been on the Enterprise as long as most of the crew members I volunteered to work tonight so that others might ... enjoy themselves."

OH!

"Thanks Spock. I'm sure they'll appreciate it."

Spock approached her he moved his hands from behind his back and produced a small, intricately carved wooden box in his hands. Spock's expression is thoughtful.

"Jamie," he began again. "It is customary on Vulcan to commemorate significant milestones with a gift that holds symbolic meaning."

Jamie's smile grew softer. "Spock, you didn't have to—"

"Please," Spock interjected gently, "Allow me to continue."

He opened the wooden box, revealing a delicate turquoise pendant that caught the light beautifully.

Jamie's eyes widened in awe. "Spock, it's incredible. What does it mean?"

"Vokaya is a turquoise-colored mineral unique to Vulcan. The symbol represents the Vulcan philosophy of embracing diversity and finding unity in difference. It signifies that all things—regardless of their dissimilarities—are essential to the whole. You, Jamie, embody this principle more than anyone I have ever known."

Spock's gaze met Jamie's, his eyes reflecting a depth of emotion that words could not fully convey. "You have brought together a diverse crew and led us with wisdom, compassion, and strength. For this, you have my deepest respect and gratitude."

Touched by Spock's words, Jamie took the pendant from the box and held it carefully, before putting it on. "I'll be sure to treasure it. Thank you, Spock."

Her door opened once more. Bones had his hand covering his eyes. "Knock, Knock."

"I'm decent!" Jamie shouted at him.

Bones uncovered his eyes, grinning mischievously. "Had to check. Evening Spock."

"Doctor. Enjoy your evening Captain."

"Be sure to pop in for five minutes, Captain's order."

"Spock and I have no clue what you are talking about. I'm just taking you for a nice meal in the mess hall." Bones said holding out a blindfold. "Here put this on I've got a surprise for you."

Jamie puts it on, "Make sure I don't fall on my arse or twist an ankle - change of mind - do let me twist an ankle I'll take the Medbay over this any day."

Bones ensures she is completely blindfolded. Jamie, unable to see, is guided through the narrow, creaking corridors of the ship. Bones steers Jamie with a firm but gentle hand, navigating past crew members who whisper. Finally, they reach the mess hall. Bones pauses, then leads Jamie through the entrance. The room, filled with the muted hum of conversation and the clatter of utensils, falls silent as they enter. The anticipation in the air is palpable.

Bones stops, positions Jamie in the center of the room, and slowly removes the blindfold. Jamie blinks, adjusting to the dim light of the mess hall, the faces of the crew around him, and the table laden with food and drink before her.

The Starship Enterprise buzzed with a rare, festive atmosphere as the crew gathered in the mess hall. Colorful streamers and holographic decorations adorned the room, and a large banner read, "Congratulations on 5 Years, Captain Kirk!"

"Surprise!"

Jamie stood in the center of a semicircle of smiling faces. Her eyes twinkled with surprise and gratitude as she accepted well-wishes and hearty pats on the back. Bones handed her a drink, and Scotty lifted his glass in a toast.

"To Captain Kirk! Five years of leading us four doing so into the stars and beyond!" Scotty declared, his voice booming with pride.

Jamie raised her glass and smiled. "Thank you, everyone. I couldn't have asked for a better crew."

The crew cheers and begins mingling, enjoying the festivities. Jamie moves through the crowd, shaking hands and exchanging warm words with her crew. She eventually finds herself next to the cake, admiring the craftsmanship.

"Would you care to make the first cut, Captain?" Uhura asked.

Jamie picks up the knife, looking around at her crew once more. "I would be honored."

As Jamie makes the first slice of the cake, the room is filled with applause and laughter. The celebration continues, a testament to the bond and camaraderie forged over five years of exploration and adventure under Captain Kirk's command.

"You should tell them another tale of your many adventures," Scotty suggested rubbing his hands together. "Or Leonard and I could."

"Thought you and Bones had told them all when Watson was on the ship."

"Nah, you weren't here to embarrass."

Jamie rolled her eyes. Her crew listening intently to their conversation. "Any particular story you want to hear?"

"What about that bizarre cloud-like creature -"

"Oh, that is a good one."

"Actually, Captain we were wondering how did you get your captaincy?"

Jamie was astounded, it wasn't a tale she liked to tell. "My captaincy story - rather boring really. The same way all Captains do the dreaded Kobayashi Maru test."

"J, you're not meant to tell them what it's called."

"It's not called that anymore I don't think. Not after I beat it remember."

"You mean when you reprogrammed it."

Jamie shrugged her shoulders. "I can neither confirm nor deny that."

"What made you sign up for Starfleet then Captain?"

"Now that, that is a story." Jamie said, "See there I was minding my own business, being the sweet innocent seventeen-year-old that I was -"

"Yeah right!" Bones shouted.

"OK, OK I was a bit of a juvenile. I was in trouble a lot."
