Chapter 14

"Conclusion! Pikachu VS. Eevee!"

The stadium buzzes with excitement as Kimberly and Brayden watch Davey and Sarah's battle from the stands. The intensity of the match is palpable, and the two spectators can't help but discuss the skills of the trainers on the field.

"Sarah's Pokémon is really well-trained," Kimberly notes. "Her strategy is all about precision and timing."

Brayden nods, eyes glued to the battlefield. "Yeah, she's definitely good. But look at Davey. He's calm, focused. He's thinking a few steps ahead. It's impressive."

"Absolutely," Kimberly agrees. "That Electric Memory move with Silvally was a game-changer. He's got a knack for turning the tide."

Brayden's eyes narrow as he studies Davey's every move. "He's got potential. I'd love to battle him someday. It'd be interesting to see how our skills match up."

Kimberly raises an eyebrow. "You think he's that good?"

Brayden smiles. "I do. He's got a lot of heart and determination. Plus, he's been training with Zac. You can see the improvement in his tactics and confidence."

Kimberly claps her hands in excitement. "The way Davey and his Pokémon move, it's like they know exactly what each other is thinking."

Brayden leans forward, eyes bright with excitement. "That's the kind of bond every trainer dreams of. It's like they're reading each other's minds."

The commentator's voice rises with enthusiasm. "This battle is neck and neck, folks! Both trainers are showing incredible skill and determination!"

Kimberly and Brayden remain captivated, their admiration for both trainers growing with each passing moment. The anticipation for the battle's outcome hangs thick in the air, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats.

The crowd's anticipation is palpable, and all eyes are on the battlefield. Davey takes a deep breath, looking down at his final Pokémon. "Alright, Eevee, let's show them what we've got!" Eevee leaps onto the field, eyes shining with determination.

Sarah smirks, holding up her last Poké Ball. "This is it, Pikachu. Let's win this!" In a flash of light, Pikachu appears, sparks flying from its cheeks.

The commentator's voice booms through the stadium. "And now, the final round begins! Davey's Eevee versus Sarah's Pikachu! This is going to be an electrifying match!"

As the crowd erupted into cheers and applause, Davey couldn't shake the nagging question: Why did things change between them? They used to be inseparable, sharing moments of joy and laughter with their Pokémon. Now, it seemed like every interaction with Sarah ended in tension or rivalry.

He glanced over at Sarah, who was reveling in the adulation of their peers. Her confidence was undeniable, but it was also a stark reminder of how distant they had become. Damon's disappointed look earlier echoed in Davey's mind, a silent plea for them to remember the bond they once shared as siblings.

"Sarah," Davey began, his voice soft but earnest, "can I ask you something?"

Sarah turned to him, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "What is it?"

Davey hesitated for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "I miss how close we used to be. Do you ever wonder why we don't get along like we used to?"

Sarah's smile faded slightly, replaced by a more serious expression. She looked away for a moment, contemplating his question. "I think… I think we've both changed, Davey. We have different priorities now."

Davey nodded slowly, understanding her words. "Yeah, I guess so. But I miss us, Sarah. I miss just hanging out and having fun together." He says. Sarah doesn't say anything and ignores it.

They lapsed into a thoughtful silence, the sounds of the crowd fading into the background. Despite the tension between them, Davey felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe this battle could be the start of something new—a chance to rebuild their relationship, one step at a time.

"Eevee, let's start with Bouncy Bubble!" Davey commands.

Eevee leaps into the air, sending a stream of water toward Pikachu.

"Pikachu, dodge and use Thunder Punch!" Sarah counters.

Pikachu nimbly avoids the attack and charges forward, its fist crackling with electricity. It lands a solid hit on Eevee, who staggers but quickly recovers.

In the stands, the spectators watch intently. Zac leans forward, his eyes glued to the battle. "Davey's really got his work cut out for him."

Ashley smirks, her eyes flicking over to Zac. "Yeah, but he's got a trick up his sleeve. He's been working on a new technique."

"Eevee, use Bubbie Shield!" Davey calls out.

Eevee surrounds itself with a swirling shield of water, using Bouncy Bubble to create a protective barrier. However, the shield flickers and quickly dissipates, leaving Eevee vulnerable.

"Pikachu, now! Thunderbolt!" Sarah commands.

Pikachu releases a powerful bolt of electricity, striking Eevee and sending it tumbling back.

Ashley frowns, crossing her arms. "The Bubbie Shield isn't working. It's supposed to be a perfect defense against electric attacks."

Natalie looks over, curious. "Bubbie Shield?"

Ashley nods, clearly proud. "Yeah, I came up with it. It uses Bouncy Bubble to create a water barrier that absorbs and redirects electric attacks. It's brilliant in theory, but Davey's execution needs work."

In the crowd, Kimberly and Brayden continue to analyze the battle.

"Sarah's Pikachu is really well-trained," Kimberly notes. "Her strategy is all about precision and timing."

Brayden nods, eyes glued to the battlefield. "Yeah, she's definitely good. But look at Davey. He's calm, focused. He's thinking a few steps ahead. It's impressive."

"Eevee, use Quick Attack!" Davey commands.

Eevee darts toward Pikachu with incredible speed, landing a hit that knocks Pikachu back. Pikachu quickly regains its footing, sparks flying from its cheeks.

The commentator's voice rises with enthusiasm. "This battle is neck and neck, folks! Both trainers are showing incredible skill and determination!"

Ashley glances at Zac, a slight smirk on her face. "See? I told you. Davey's got potential. He just needs to refine his techniques."

Zac nods, impressed. "Yeah, he's doing great. This battle could go either way."

Kimberly claps her hands in excitement. "The way Eevee and Davey move, it's like they know exactly what each other is thinking."

Brayden leans forward, eyes bright with excitement. "That's the kind of bond every trainer dreams of. It's like they're reading each other's minds."

The tension in the stadium is palpable as the battle between Davey's Eevee and Sarah's Pikachu continues. The crowd's anticipation is thick, every eye locked onto the two Pokémon facing off on the battlefield, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats.

Davey's heart sinks as he sees Eevee struggle to get up after Pikachu's powerful Thunderbolt. He had been so confident in the Bubbie Shield, a technique he and Ashley had worked on tirelessly. But seeing it fail in front of everyone is disheartening.

"Eevee, you okay?" Davey calls out, his voice tinged with worry.

Eevee shakes itself off and nods, determined to keep fighting.

In the stands, Harold continues to cheer for Sarah. "You've got this, Sarah! Keep up the pressure!"

Meanwhile, Ashley frowns, clearly upset that her technique didn't work as planned. She leans over to Zac, who's sitting beside her. "The Bubbie Shield should've worked. It's supposed to be a perfect defense against electric attacks."

"Maybe it just needs more practice." Zac suggests, trying to be supportive.

Davey looks at Eevee, determination hardening his resolve. "Let's try it again, Eevee. We can do this! Bubbie Shield, one more time!"

Eevee leaps into the air, creating the swirling water barrier around itself once more. This time, the shield appears more stable and solid.

Sarah smirks, her confidence unwavering. "Pikachu, break that shield with Iron Tail!"

Pikachu's tail glows metallic as it charges forward, slamming into the water barrier with incredible force. The shield holds for a moment, but then it shatters, sending water splashing everywhere and leaving Eevee exposed.

"Eevee!" Davey cries out as Pikachu's Iron Tail lands a direct hit, sending Eevee rolling across the battlefield.

In the stands, the spectators watch with bated breath. Natalie turns to Ross, worry etched on her face. "That looked like it really hurt."

Jeremiah, who's become surprisingly invested in the match, mutters, "Come on, Davey, don't give up."

Ashley, visibly frustrated, mutters under her breath, "I thought it would work this time."

Kimberly and Brayden continue their analysis from their seats. "Sarah's really good at adapting her strategy," Kimberly comments.

"Yeah, but Davey's not out of this yet," Brayden replies. "He's got heart, and that can make all the difference."

Davey clenches his fists, his mind racing. "Eevee, can you keep going?" he calls out.

Eevee slowly gets up, determined to continue the fight despite the setback.

"Alright, let's give it everything we've got," Davey says, his voice filled with determination. "Eevee, Quick Attack!"

Eevee dashes forward with incredible speed, aiming to land a quick hit on Pikachu.

Eevee dashes forward at incredible speed, catching Pikachu off guard and landing a solid hit that sends Pikachu staggering back. The crowd gasps at the sudden, swift move.

Sarah narrows her eyes, her confidence unwavering. "Pikachu, don't let that slow you down! Use Iron Tail!"

Pikachu's tail glows metallic as it charges forward, aiming for Eevee. Davey quickly responds, his voice full of determination. "Eevee, Bubbie Shield!"

Eevee summons the swirling water barrier around itself. Pikachu's Iron Tail slams into the shield with incredible force. The crowd holds its breath, waiting to see if the shield will hold or shatter. This time, the Bubbie Shield holds firm, absorbing the impact of Pikachu's Iron Tail. The water swirls and disperses the energy, leaving Eevee protected.

Davey's eyes light up with hope. "It's working! Now, Eevee, counter with Quick Attack!"

Eevee dashes forward once more, using the momentum of the shield to land another hit on Pikachu, sending it staggering back again.

In the stands, the spectators are in awe. Ashley leans forward, a triumphant smile on her face. "Yes! I knew it would work!"

Zac nods, impressed. "That was incredible. The Bubbie Shield finally held up."

Harold cheers loudly for Sarah, but his excitement is tinged with nervousness. "Come on, Sarah! Don't let up!"

Natalie looks at Ross, eyes wide with excitement. "Did you see that? The shield actually worked!"

Jeremiah, now fully invested in the match, can't help but cheer. "Go, Davey! You've got this!"

Kimberly and Brayden exchange impressed looks. "Davey's really pulling through," Kimberly remarks.

Brayden nods. "He's got heart. I definitely want to battle him someday."

The commentator's voice booms through the stadium, full of excitement. "What a comeback, folks! Davey's Bubbie Shield finally works, and Eevee lands another solid hit on Pikachu!"

Sarah grits her teeth, trying to stay focused. "Pikachu, we can still do this! Use Thunder Punch!"

Pikachu charges forward, its fist crackling with electricity. It lands a powerful punch on Eevee, sending it flying back.

Davey takes a deep breath, determination still burning in his eyes. "Eevee, let's finish this strong. Use Buzzy Buzz!"

Eevee gathers its energy and releases a wave of electric power, aiming directly at Pikachu. The crowd watches in stunned silence as the two Pokémon give it their all. The intensity of the battle is palpable, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the outcome. The stadium holds its collective breath as Eevee unleashes its Buzzy Buzz attack, sending a wave of electric energy toward Pikachu. Sarah reacts quickly, her eyes narrowing with determination.

"Pikachu, counter with Thunderbolt!" she commands.

Pikachu's cheeks crackle with electricity, and it releases a powerful Thunderbolt to meet Eevee's attack. The two electric forces collide in midair, creating a dazzling display of sparks and light.

Davey watches intently, his heart pounding. "Eevee, push through it!"

Eevee channels more energy into its Buzzy Buzz, trying to overpower Pikachu's Thunderbolt. The crowd is on their feet, cheering for both trainers as the electric clash intensifies.

In the stands, Kimberly grips the edge of her seat. "This is incredible! I've never seen such a fierce battle."

Brayden nods, his eyes glued to the battlefield. "Both trainers are giving it everything they've got. It's a true test of their skills and bond with their Pokémon."

Ashley can barely contain her excitement. "Come on, Eevee! You can do it!"

Zac, equally invested, watches with bated breath. "This could be the turning point."

The commentator's voice rises with anticipation. "What an intense showdown, folks! Neither trainer is backing down!"

As the electric attacks continue to clash, it becomes a battle of endurance. Both Eevee and Pikachu strain against each other, sparks flying everywhere.

"Eevee, don't give up!" Davey calls out, his voice filled with encouragement.

Sarah's expression is fierce, her focus unwavering. "Pikachu, you can do it! Just a little more!"

Pikachu responds with a determined cry, pouring all its remaining energy into the Thunderbolt. The collision of electric energy reaches a critical point, and with a blinding flash, the attacks explode, sending both Pokémon flying backward.

The crowd gasps, and for a moment, there is complete silence as the dust settles. Eevee and Pikachu struggle to get up, both visibly exhausted but refusing to give in.

Davey's voice is soft but firm. "Eevee, I believe in you. One more time. Quick Attack!"

Eevee gathers its remaining strength and dashes toward Pikachu, moving with incredible speed. Sarah bites her lip, quickly thinking of a counter.

"Pikachu, return!" Sarah calls, holding up Pikachu's Poké Ball. The crowd murmurs in confusion as she recalls her Pokémon. Then, with a determined look, she pulls out a special Poké Ball and throws it into the air. "Pikachu, let's show them our true power! Dynamax!"

In a flash of red light, Pikachu re-emerges, growing rapidly until it becomes Gigantamax Pikachu, towering over the battlefield. The crowd gasps in shock and awe.

Ross stands up, providing some quick exposition. "Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing are phenomena from the Galar region. It allows Pokémon to grow to gigantic sizes and use powerful G-Max moves unique to their species. This is going to be a game-changer!"

Harold, Sarah's boyfriend, jumps to his feet, cheering. "That's incredible, Sarah! Go get them!"

Jeremiah, Yuki, Celine, Cole, Charlotte, and Rose all watch in stunned silence, their eyes wide with amazement.

Kimberly clutches Brayden's arm, her excitement barely contained. "I can't believe it! Gigantamax Pikachu!"

Brayden nods, equally stunned. "This changes everything. Davey's got a real challenge now."

Natalie, watching intently, whispers to herself, "What a twist… Can Davey handle this?"

Ashley's eyes widen in surprise. "This is going to be tough for Davey. He needs to stay calm."

Zac, still focused on the battle, murmurs, "He can do it. He just has to think strategically."

Davey takes a deep breath, his determination unwavering. "Eevee, we've got to give it everything we've got. Use Quick Attack!"

Eevee dashes toward the towering Pikachu, moving with incredible speed. But Gigantamax Pikachu's sheer size and power are daunting.

Sarah smirks, her confidence renewed. "Pikachu, use G-Max Volt Crash!"

Gigantamax Pikachu unleashes a massive wave of electric energy, enveloping the battlefield. The force of the attack sends Eevee flying back, struggling to stay on its feet.

In the stands, the spectators are on the edge of their seats, the intensity of the battle holding them captive. Every eye is locked on the battlefield, waiting to see how Davey will respond to this new challenge.

Davey looks at Eevee, the exhaustion in his partner's eyes matching his own self-doubt. "I don't know if we can do this, Eevee," he whispers, the weight of the situation bearing down on him.

Davey looks up and sees his father watching from above. Davey clenches his fists, at the sight of his father. He straightens up, a newfound determination in his eyes, wanting to prove himself to his father. "Eevee, we're not giving up. Let's show them our full power! Use our Z-Move: Breakneck Blitz!"

Eevee's fur begins to glow as Davey performs the Z-Move dance, channeling their combined energy. A brilliant aura envelops Eevee, boosting its power to the maximum.

Sarah's eyes widen in surprise but quickly narrow with resolve. "We won't back down either. Pikachu, use G-Max Strike!"

Gigantamax Pikachu charges up a colossal amount of energy, ready to unleash its ultimate move. The two attacks, Breakneck Blitz and G-Max Strike, collide with incredible force, sending shockwaves throughout the stadium.

The entire crowd, including Harold, Jeremiah, Yuki, Celine, Cole, Charlotte, Rose, Kimberly, Brayden, Natalie, Ashley, Zac and more watch in awe and anticipation. The commentator's voice struggles to be heard over the roaring energy. "This is it, folks! The ultimate clash between Davey's Z-Move and Sarah's G-Max Move!"

As the dust settles from the epic collision, Eevee and Pikachu are both left standing, but it's clear that Eevee has taken the brunt of the damage. With a final cry, Eevee collapses, unable to continue the fight.

The referee steps forward, raising his flag. "Eevee is unable to battle! Pikachu wins! That means Sarah is the winner!"

The spectators, still buzzing with excitement, continue to cheer for the trainers who gave it their all on the battlefield. The arena erupts in cheers and applause, celebrating the fierce competition and the bonds forged between trainers and Pokémon.

Sarah smirks, walking over to Davey. "Looks like you're not as strong as you thought, Davey."

Davey kneels beside his exhausted Eevee, gently cradling his partner. "You did amazing, Eevee. I'm so proud of you," he says softly, his voice filled with admiration and gratitude. "We fought hard out there, even though we lost."

From the stands, Damon watches silently, his disappointment palpable as he meets Sarah's gaze. Their eyes lock for a fleeting moment, Damon's expression conveying a blend of fatherly concern and disapproval. Sarah's smirk falters briefly, but she quickly turns away, masking her unease with a defiant demeanor.

Harold cheers loudly, proud of Sarah's victory. "You did it, Sarah! Great job!"

Jeremiah, Yuki, Celine, Cole, Charlotte, and Rose are all talking excitedly about the battle.

Kimberly turns to Brayden. "That was an epic clash. Davey showed a lot of heart."

Brayden nods. "Yeah, he's got a lot of potential. I definitely want to battle him someday."

Natalie smiles. "Both trainers gave it their all. This was a battle to remember."

Ashley and Zac share a proud glance. "Davey's going to learn from this and come back even stronger," Ashley says confidently.

Zac nods in agreement. "Absolutely. He's got what it takes to be a great trainer."

Professor Moss, observing from a distance, nods thoughtfully. "Davey has come a long way. This battle will be an important lesson for him."

Lenore, another spectator, leans forward with interest. "This match shows just how much both trainers have grown. It's inspiring."

As the sun begins to set over Liberty Pier, Davey arrives, greeted by the unexpected sight of his friends and fellow trainers gathered for a celebration. The pier is adorned with festive decorations, and the atmosphere is filled with warmth and excitement.

"Surprise!" Kimberly exclaims as Davey steps onto the pier, her smile infectious as she gestures towards the assembled group.

Davey's eyes widen in surprise and delight. "You guys did all this for me?"

Brayden steps forward, extending a hand in greeting. "Absolutely! Your battle was epic, Davey. It's about time we celebrated."

As the group gathers around him, Davey notices Ashley beckoning him aside with a serious expression.

"Hey, Davey," Ashley begins quietly as they step away from the partygoers. "Can I talk to you about something?"

Davey nods, his curiosity piqued. "Of course, Ashley. What's on your mind?"

Ashley takes a deep breath, her gaze serious. "It's about Harper and Professor Cotton. I've noticed some... concerning behavior between them."

Davey's brow furrows in concern. "What do you mean?"

Ashley hesitates, choosing her words carefully. "I've seen them together several times, and it seems like their relationship is more than just professional. Harper's been acting differently too."

Davey absorbs this information, his expression troubled. "That's not good. Professor Cotton should maintain professional boundaries."

Ashley nods, her worry evident. "Exactly. I thought you should know, since you're close to Harper."

Davey thanks Ashley for bringing it to his attention. "I'll talk to Harper and see what's going on. Thanks for telling me, Ashley."

Davey's thoughts are now preoccupied with concern for Harper and the potential complications arising from her relationship with Professor Cotton. Despite the festive atmosphere, the issue weighs heavily on his mind, reminding him of the complexities and challenges that can arise in the world of Pokémon training.

Davey and Ashley exchanged concerned glances as they approached Harper, who stood near the edge of Liberty Pier, her gaze fixed on the water. The sounds of celebration drifted faintly from behind them, but tension hung heavy in the air between the three friends.

"Harper," Davey began gently, "can we talk to you for a moment?"

Harper turned to face them, her expression guarded. "What's this about?"

Ashley stepped forward, her voice calm but direct. "Harper, I saw some texts on your phone. Why do you have Professor Cotton's personal number?"

Harper's demeanor shifted, a flicker of surprise and unease crossing her features. "I... um..."

Davey interjected, his concern evident. "Harper, we're just worried about you. Are you okay? Is something going on?"

Harper hesitated, her gaze darting between them. "It's not what you think. Professor Cotton is just helping me with my assignments."

Ashley folded her arms, her expression serious. "Harper..."

Before Harper could respond, she raised her hand, commanding her Abra to materialize beside her with a soft hum. The Pokémon's presence reinforced her defensive stance. "I don't need your concern. Now, I have to go. Abra use Teleport"

With another gesture, Harper and Abra disappeared in a flash of light, teleporting away from the pier and leaving Davey and Ashley standing in stunned silence.

Ashley sighed heavily, breaking the quiet tension. "I hope she'll be okay..."

Davey nodded solemnly, his thoughts racing with concern for Harper. "Me too. She seemed really defensive."

As they watched the waves lap against the pier, the festive sounds of celebration seemed distant and subdued. Despite their efforts to help, the situation with Harper and Professor Cotton remained unresolved, leaving them with more questions than answers.

"We should give her some space," Davey suggested quietly. "But we can't ignore this."

Ashley nodded in agreement. "Agreed. We need to figure out how to help her without telling anyone."

"But-"

"Davey this can cause the school and your dad so much trouble. Do you want that? He's going to hate you even more!"

"Fine!" Davey was annoyed, but understood why he had to keep it a secret.

Ashley sits down heavily on a nearby bench, her shoulders slumped with emotion. Davey joins her, sensing her need for support. "Ashley, what's on your mind?"

Tears well up in Ashley's eyes as she tries to compose herself. "I miss being friends with Harper. And everything else... it's just too much."

Davey nods in understanding, feeling his own emotions bubbling to the surface. "I know. It's a tough time for all of us."

Ashley wipes away a tear, her voice trembling. "And then Zac and I... we broke up. It's been really hard dealing with that too."

Davey squeezes her shoulder in sympathy, feeling a pang of sadness for Ashley's pain. "I'm sorry, Ashley. That's really tough."

Ashley nods, her gaze distant as she continues. "And my dad... he got remarried recently. It's been difficult adjusting to everything changing so quickly."

Davey listens attentively, his heart heavy with empathy for Ashley's struggles. "That's a lot to handle at once."

As they share their burdens, Eevee and Piplup, sensing their trainers' emotions, approach and nuzzle against them. Tears stream down Davey's cheeks as he hugs Eevee close, the Pokémon whimpering softly in response. Ashley wraps her arms around Piplup, finding comfort in its reassuring presence.

"It's okay to cry," Ashley murmurs, her voice choked with emotion.

Davey nods, unable to hold back his tears any longer. "I miss Mom... and I hate that I couldn't beat Sarah."

They sit together in quiet sadness, finding solace in their shared pain and the unconditional support of their Pokémon. The sounds of laughter and cheers from the celebration seem distant, replaced by a moment of deep connection amidst their grief.

After a while, Davey speaks softly, his voice thick with emotion. "We'll figure this out, Ashley. And we'll help Harper too."

Ashley nods, a small smile touching her lips through her tears. "Yeah... we will."

As Davey and Ashley sit in quiet contemplation, their Pokémon offering silent support with everyone else partying, Jeremiah approaches with his characteristic enthusiasm, breaking the somber mood with his boisterous presence

"Hey, Davey! That battle of yours felt like a football game! Intense plays, dramatic moments... You really brought the heat!" Jeremiah's voice is loud enough to carry over the distant sounds of celebration.

Davey blushes slightly at Jeremiah's comparison but manages a grateful smile. "Thanks, Jeremiah. I appreciate it."

Suddenly, Ashley's patience wears thin with Jeremiah's enthusiastic interruptions. She clears her throat loudly, drawing everyone's attention. "Jeremiah, can me and Davey finish our moment here?"

Before Jeremiah can continue, Rex arrives with a woman by his side, catching everyone's attention. Rex, holding a bouquet of flowers, introduces the woman with a warm smile. "Davey, this is Solan," Rex says, gesturing to the woman beside him. "Solan, meet Davey."

Solan smiles warmly at Davey, extending a hand. "Nice to meet you, Davey. That battle you had was awesome."

Davey shakes her hand, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sudden introduction but welcoming nonetheless. "Likewise, Solan. It's nice to meet you too."

Rex chuckles, clearly fond of Solan's presence. "Solan's lucky charm. She insisted on bringing you these flowers."

Solan leans in and kisses Rex on the cheek, a gesture of affection that surprises Davey which makes him jealous. "You did amazing out there, Rex."

Davey smiles at the display of support between the couple, feeling a sense of gratitude for their kindness amidst the busy celebrations. "Thanks for the flowers, Rex, and it's great meeting you, Solan."

Jeremiah, watching the interaction with interest, interjects with a grin. "Looks like you've got a fan club, Davey. Can't blame them, though. That battle was legendary."

"Eh it was decent." Sarah says with a smirk, her tone dripping with condescension. "You put up a good fight today, but let's face it, you're just not strong enough. Your team was pathetic out there."

Davey stiffens at Sarah's words, but he keeps his composure. He looks up at her, meeting her gaze squarely. "Sarah, Eevee did their best. We both did."

Sarah scoffs, rolling her eyes. "Your best wasn't good enough. Weak trainers like you shouldn't even bother entering battles. It's embarrassing."

Eevee lets out a low growl, sensing Davey's frustration. Davey places a reassuring hand on Eevee's fur, calming them down before turning his attention back to Sarah.

"I'll get stronger," Davey asserts quietly, his voice tinged with determination. "And next time, things will be different."

Sarah laughs dismissively, shaking her head. "Sure, keep telling yourself that. But face it, Davey. Some trainers are just born winners. And you? You'll always be a loser."

Davey clenches his fists, trying to ignore the sting of Sarah's words. He takes a deep breath, steadying himself. "Maybe winning is all that matters to you, Sarah. But there's more to being a trainer than just victories."

Sarah narrows her eyes, the hint of a challenge in her voice. "Oh yeah? Like what?"

Just then, Ashley steps forward, her expression serious as she interjects. "Like respect, Sarah. Davey shows respect for his Pokémon, win or lose. That's more than I can say for you."

Sarah turns her gaze to Ashley, her smirk faltering for a moment. "Oh, please. Spare me the lecture, Ashley."

Ashley steps closer to Davey, standing beside him in solidarity. "Davey's strength isn't just about battles. It's about heart and dedication. Something you seem to overlook in your pursuit of victory."

Sarah scoffs again, her confidence shaken but not broken. "Whatever, Ashley. You can defend him all you want. It won't change the fact that he lost today."

With that final barb, Sarah turns on her heel and walks away, Pikachu still crackling with electricity. Davey watches her go, feeling a mix of frustration and gratitude for Ashley's support. Beside him, Eevee nuzzles against his leg, offering silent comfort.

"You'll prove her wrong, Davey," Ashley says softly, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

Davey nods, a small smile tugging at his lips despite the disappointment. "I just need to keep getting stronger Ashley, and someday I'll beat her."

Damon sits in his dimly lit office, the glow of computer screens casting an eerie light on his stern face. He listens intently as he speaks into his phone, the voice on the other end barely audible over the crackle of static.

"Yes, I've seen the video," Damon murmurs, his eyes fixed on the screen displaying a recent Pokémon battle between Davey and Sarah, his children. His focus narrows on the intense exchange between their Pokémon, particularly drawn to Sarah's Pikachu and Davey's resilient Eevee.

"I need you to retrieve my son's Eevee, Utah," Damon continues, his tone firm and unyielding. His gaze momentarily shifts to the Delcatty lying beside him, whom he absentmindedly strokes with a thoughtful expression. "Make sure it's done discreetly. No mistakes."

As he hangs up the phone, a sense of determination hardens Damon's features. The video continues to loop on the screen, each replay reinforcing his resolve. He leans back in his chair, hands clasped tightly together, thoughts racing as he plans the next steps to ensure his instructions are carried out precisely.

Outside his office, the bustling sounds of the city fade into a distant hum. Damon's mind is singularly focused on the task at hand — retrieving Eevee. His children's Pokémon, crucial to his ambitions, must be secured, whatever the cost.
