Chapter 2: Me and My Dad
Soon the beach was swarmed with a small group of teenagers surrounding the curly haired man and they were all staring at the trident made of water floating above my head. "So, what does this mean?" I said as I was more confused than I ever was in my entire life. "Somebody please take our newcomers to the big house and show them the orientation video!" The curly haired man then stuck his hand out and a diet coke appeared from thin air, he then cracked the top open and took a long sip followed by a long burp that echoed around the surrounding trees "Uhg, can't stand those sugar free burps". "Are you a magician?" I said a little too loud and the curly haired man looked at me with purple fire in his eyes "A MAGICIAN! Could A magician turn you into a dolphin?!". The man's stare scared me as I could see horrors beyond my imagination but paused at the question "Well, wouldn't a magician call that a trick?" I shrugged my shoulders as I knew that I was being a smartass with my answer.
Before the man could get any closer to me a blonde haired girl came bursting to the front and put her hands on the curly haired man "Mr.D, he doesn't know anything. Please just punish him with chores". The girl was pleading for me, even though she didn't know me, I must've underestimated this Mr.D if she was asking him to leave me alone. "Whatever, water under the bridge I guess. Anyways I'm not the one who he should be worrying about" Mr.D's face then turned into an evil smile, the smile reminded me of Becky's grin. Mr.D then walked off into the nearby woods mumbling about someone not keeping it in their pants. The blonde hair girl then walked up to me and the boy who was now done coughing up water. "You two! Come with me!" The girl's voice sounded demanding, like she could run things if Mr.D wasn't around, which sounded like it was the case when I noticed that we arrived at some sort of summer camp, maybe for aspiring magicians.
As we walked through the woods I could see cabins in the distance each aligned in the shape of a horseshoe. Each cabin looked uniquely different from each other, some with statues in front of them, other with plants growing up the sides, and one that looked like it was pulled from an all boys summer camp because trash could be seen lying around the outside. As we continued to walk I could see a fire burning down in the amphitheater surrounded by stone stairs that looked like they also acted as seats. I saw a young girl sitting down by the fire, poking at the embers and tending to the flames,I then felt compelled to walk over to her. I took the steps down the amphitheater and sat down by the young girl, "Hello Ian,". I was shocked that the girl knew my name "How do you know me?" I asked "You look so much like your father, those green eyes show the sea just as his" . The girl turned from the fire to look at me and I could see that her eyes reflected the flames perfectly, not letting me see her true eye color.
"Who are you?" I looked at the girl studying her face and noticed that her skin was clear and smooth, not showing any sign of aging. "I'm your Aunt Ian, I'm Hesita" Hesita eyes now showed that they were the amber color and gave me a feeling of warmth as I looked at her. "Isn't Hesita one of the Greek gods or something like that?" "Something like that, I prefer goddess most times but I think between us you can just call me Hesita". My brain was trying to wrap around what Hesita was saying, I didn't know much about the Greek Gods but if this means that my Dad is a god, he has some explaining to do. "I can see this troubles you" Hesita was now poking at the fire with a long stick and trying to get the flames to settle down. "Well, yeah. To be honest, I don't know what to say" I was utterly confused, speechless, why didn't I stick with that boy and blonde haired girl.
"Well, please don't be mad at your father, he's already been helping more than he should" I know I looked at her with a stupid look cause she started to giggle a little bit "Your father makes that face when he's been shocked too". "Is that why I've been waking up at random beaches since my mother passed away?" I asked, trying to piece things together "Yes, well, he kind of did that behind everyone's back and is dealing with the backlash as we speak" Hesita arose from where she was sitting and looked at me waiting to stand up as well. "I must go now, but I want to at least ask you to do something for me?" "What?" I said a little anxious "A Titan and a Giant walk into a bar, the God ducked, remember this joke for its more important than you know" with that being said a swirl of fire came out from the nearby pit and Hesita was gone.
I walked back from the amphitheater trying to look for the blonde hair girl and the teenage boy who were both sitting inside a giant blue house with a stretch around porch with rocking chairs sitting in pairs on the porch. I could see that they were both staring at a television in horror at what was playing on it. I walked in the house and could hear two voices, one male and the other female arguing about someone messing around with nymphs every night and now all Olympus could talk about were his misdeeds with the woodland creatures. As I entered the room they were sitting in I could see the television that showed a buff man that was wearing a black suit that complimented his deep voice. The lady in the video looked to be the man's wife and was currently trying to reach for a sword that was hanging above a nearby dresser, its blade gleaming with a bronze glow.
The girl with blonde hair gasped, as the lady swung the sword at her husband, then she ran up to the video player and ejected the tape from the player "Damn eleven, probably the Stoll brothers". "I'm sorry, where am I?" I said to the girl who was trying to look for the actual orientation video. "Camp Half-blood, I can't find the video. I'm Annabeth, Cabin Six. I guess I'm showing you guys around" She went towards the door to open it but I stopped her and looked directly in her gray eyes. "I would really like some answers first before you show us around and I'm Ian, cabin unknown" "Three" I was cut off by Annabeth "What?" "Your fathers Posiden, that's cabin three, where you'll be staying". "My father, yeah, I'm still trying to wrap my brain around that" I sat down in a nearby arm chair and now noticed the stuffed, uhm, animals?
What looked like to be a sabertooth tiger head was hanging above a turntable that had some old looking records sitting beside it. "So you're a half-blood, that means that your father in this case is a god who made love to a mortal and you are the product" "So my Mom banged a god? I don't know whether to be impressed or grossed out" I stared at Annabeth, still probably looking like an idiot. "Well, it's different for each god but yeah. It happens quite often, thus Camp Half-blood" things suddenly clicked in my head. I remember the story of Hercules and all the pain the Gods put him through and most of the demi-gods tragic ends. "Probably not the best time but I'm Tucker" the boy who I saved finally spoke and I wouldn't have thought that the name Tucker would fit him.
We left the house and walked over to the Dining Pavilion which also had a fire pit at the front which Annabeth explained was for our meal sacrifices to our respective godly parents. "You can usually say a short prayer if you want but mainly just make sure to give something" Annabeth then led us over to the cabins and stopped outside the one with trash littered across the front and sides. "This is where you'll be staying Tucker, Cabin Eleven takes all unclaimed kids until they become claimed like Ian, they'll send a sign" I remember the sound of the water above my head and looked over at Cabin Three, it looked like the cabin itself was pulled from ocean and place here for me. The outside walls were sea green with sea shells implanted in the stone.
As Tucker went inside Cabin Eleven, I decided I should head straight towards Cabin Three and check out the inside. I pushed open the door and saw three beds fully made and inside smelled like the ocean. On one of the beds was an envelope that had my name on it in green writing. I opened the envelope and saw a letter inside written with the same green ink.
Dear Ian,
I'm sorry this had to happen this way but I was delayed for too long and finally got that chance to send you to camp. I would like for this place to be a new home for you, since I've heard about your mother I've been struggling with finding ways to help. Us Gods can't directly intervene but with some encouragement with some friends I was able to find you help. I hope that this letter finds you well and please don't be afraid to reach out.
-P
I looked at the letter a little disappointed at my father, after all this time, I just got a letter. I walked out of my cabin and sat down on the steps. I thought about my mother for awhile, I remember when she used to take me to the theater to see random movies for a dollar on sundays. One sunday, we watched the comedy film Clue, I remember both of us laughing together and at one point I shot soda out of my nose making my mom laugh even harder. My eyes started to fill with tears but I quickly wiped them away as Annabeth came trotting over. "So, I think I should tell you that you're in trouble" I then heard Mr.D's voice coming booming from nearby "Ian! Please show yourself before I send out the harpies" Annabeth grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the sound of Mr.D's voice.
