We did it! (Sorry if it was bad.) I have no idea what weddings are like in the lost cities, so I just did what I wanted. The chapter title is from "October Passed Me By" by girl in red.
TW: Kissing
When she was younger, Zarina never would've thought she'd marry another woman, much less her best friend.
Now, though, as she danced with Lyrei in the forest, their flower petal dresses twirling around each other, she couldn't envision any other outcome. They were made for each other, and they didn't care if they were a bad match.
Throughout her time as a Councillor, Rina had tried time and time again to allow the option of being matched with any gender. Not enough of the other Councillors were on board with it, so she'd eventually given up. However, she hadn't stopped dropping hints here and there, and openly talking about the fact that she liked women and not men.
She'd even learned the human term for it while on some missions to the Forbidden Cities: lesbian. Rei had told her that fit herself best was pansexual.
Crazy that humans were somehow more accepting of this than elves (and even then, Rina had heard the horror stories of what it was like to live as a human who wasn't straight or cisgender, which were other terms she'd learned).
They danced together for a while, with the few people they'd invited to this wedding also dancing around them.
After the wedding was over, Rei and Rina light leaped to Fallentree, where Rina had already moved all of her things. She hadn't had a place of her own before then, having stayed at Mistyriver until becoming a Councillor, so they'd decided Rina would move in with Rei.
Marrying Rei was the best decision she'd ever made.
"Thank you," she said, when they'd gotten inside and were sitting together on the sitting room couch, their arms around each other.
"For what?"
"Everything. Dating me. Waiting for me. Marrying me."
Rei laughed. "Of course," she said, hugging Rina tighter. "You are the woman I love, after all."
"Can I kiss you?" Rina asked, leaning close the way she'd done with their first kiss.
"Yes."
And they did.
