Chapter 1

It began as a 'Normal Day' like any other, Late October of 1904 with the streets of Mobile Bay layed out before them, the harbor of the city sat calmly in the distance, and ships of various sizes were scattered about it, small fishing vessels with some ferries and cargo ships, including a small Ironclad Monitor warship stationed there.

The clattering of hives and the screech of wheels was heard as the horse drawn wagon neared a Large Mansion on the edge of town, the tranquility of the scene astounded its occupants, it was much quieter than usual even if it was early in the morning, the only people he could see were the fishermen tending to their boats in the dock.

The wagon came to a stop, and he stepped out. Giving a nod to the driver of it who nodded back and pulled away, he watched as the wagon receded into the distance, past the set of bushes and flowers eloquently lined up near the fence at the edge of the home. His gaze lasted until it had receded out of sight. As it was no longer visible he began the walk to the house, the door was already open, and his father was already waiting there.

"Hello Father." He said, His Father nodded.

"Hello Son, how was your day?"

"Great, Father, I met several fishermen today." I said proudly, even if I was an adult my mother did not like me interacting with others, not everyone around us was 'Deserving of our conversation' according to her, when she passed we all mourned, but at the same time it was nice to be able to speak with others.

"Great, did they make a good catch?" He asked.

"They said that the fishes have been gone since last night, they said something else must have gotten to them." I said.

His face darkened, his expression becoming unreadable.

"Go upstairs son, I must speak to the town council." He said, I was confused, did father think something was wrong? I remembered last time the fish disappeared wasn't nearly as bad as it was now, and surely this wasn't the end of the world for them, right?

"What is the matter, father?" I asked, he had no visible expression, and he seemed to be lost in some thought. After a few moments he spoke, and his tone was harsh.

"Go upstairs, as I said, I will explain later." He said.

I nodded, walking into the house and up the stairs to my room. My siblings weren't home ever, I was the youngest, and lived with my parents while the others were off in the world. My brother was a US Navy captain, serving aboard the Battleship U.S.S Indiana, which was considered one of the most powerful ships in the world. His sister lived in Britain, he didn't know why she chose to move there, but if she was happy he had no issues he supposed.

I sat down in my bed, staring at the wall.

What was my father on about?

Suddenly, there was a loud crash. I rushed to the window to see what appeared to be a fishing boat had just collided with a nearby church tower. I Gasped in shock as the vessel smashed against it, the wooden frame shattering and punching a gaping hole onto the tower. He turned his gaze to the origin of the vessel by tracing where he came from he saw the sea. He heard screams from the church as it crumbled to the ground, surely killing all those inside. He heard a noise, like thousands of screams at once. As he gazed upon the ocean, he saw a black mass rise up out of the water, a Reptilian Form on 2 legs with Massive, jutting spines, Short-ish arms and Orange, Fiery Eyes. He had never seen such a massive creature before, and yet somehow he already knew what this thing must be.

A God.

1 Month Before.

Lawmakers, Judges and even government officials gathered in the courtroom. He stood in a seat, by himself, near the front. No lawyers had dared to defend him, no one wanted to, and he didn't either. Did he deserve defense? He had unleashed true monsters onto this world, if he was going to win this case, he would earn it himself. He didn't want to lose all that he accomplished, but that didn't mean he was a coward!

Rutherford was however afraid. If he lost, he'd be sent to prison, for life probably. If he was even more unlucky he would be executed or tortured. Even if he won he'd doubt his reputation would be the same again.

Rutherford watched as the Proceedings began.

"Mr. Rutherford, please hear what witnesses have to say before we begin this…Strange Case." One of the judges said.

It was one of the workers who stood first, he had seen him at the site during the Creature's awakening. He didn't know his, or really any of their names besides Serizawas.

"It started when he arrived." The Worker stated, "He wanted to see progress, and wanted to detonate the bombs before we finished setting all the charges. We all knew we'd lose our jobs if we told him we weren't fully ready." The Worker paused, some murmurs went out from the crowd. He was shocked they would speak out against him like this, he paid them, gave them jobs, allowed them to feed their families, yet these men were now going to act like it was right for them to neglect their duties and simply not meet schedules? He glared at them, intimidating him.

"It didn't go as planned, when the bombs went off…..A Creature as big as the mountain itself emerged! It was a monster, as big as an Ironclad, if not bigger! Giant Dorsal Fins like a shark only the size of a Tree!" The Worker said, and he would see to it that the workers title changed to 'Former Worker'

"I see, and how many witnesses here confirm what this man saw?" The Judge asked.

All of the witnesses raised their hands.

How dare they!

"Then, as a part of the first international tribunal, I, a selected judge, find you guilty of the Crime of Misuse of power, Endangerment of hundreds of lives, and attempted Murder, you will be transported to a Selection prison in Northern Canada. You will live the rest of your life there, and perhaps repent in some way." The Judge finalized his fate, he was sweating, seething even. He was one of the richest men alive, how dare they!

"Your Honor, I must ask you to repeal this at once! This could have happened at any point whether it was done properly or not-"

"So you admit to the crime." The Judge said, "Whether you raise potentially valid points or not, you will, of course, still serve the sentence. It is already finalized, I hope you come to enjoy Baffin Island, Mr Rutherford, because you will call it home for the rest of whatever days you live.

The Gavel struck, and he already felt like his life was over at the terrible sound.
