Mary's Point of View

I'm sitting with George in the hospital waiting room. Dr. Arrow sent Missy for an MRI of her brain. George squeezes my hand.

"It's going to be okay Mare," he said.

What if it's not, I thought to myself.

Doctor Pez comes into the waiting room.

"Mr. and Mrs. Cooper?" he began, "I'm Doctor Pez. So unfortunately-"

I don't want to hear 'unfortunately', I think to myself.

"Missy has a brain tumor," Doctor Pez said.

"Oh, Good Lord," I whispered.

George is about as pale as I am.

"It's called a Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial," he continued.

"Is it cancerous," George asked.

Dr. Pez shakes his head.

"The tumor is benign but it's fairly large. We have to remove it today."

"A… and then she'll be fine?" George asked.

"We'll do our best," Dr. Pez promised.

He gave George and I a paper to sign. We signed it without saying a word. I want that blasted thing out of my baby's head now. I called my mother who picked up the phone right away.

"Mom? George and I are at the hospital with Missy. She has a brain tumor. It's benign but I need you to take care of Sheldon. Missy's being operated on."

"I'm there," my mother said, "Everything is going to be fine, Mare."

"MY BABY HAS A BRAIN TUMOR," I exploded, "HOW CAN ANYTHING BE FINE LET ALONE EVERYTHING."

"I'll bring Sheldon over to the hospital and sit with you and George."

"Okay," I said, sighing, "Thank you Mom."

"I love you," Mom said.

"Love you too," I said.

Two hours later Mom showed up with Sheldon.

"Mom," Sheldon asked, running to hug me, "What's wrong?"

I pulled Sheldon into my arms.

"Baby your sister has a brain tumor," I said, "It's benign but it's serious."

"Is it Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial," he asked.

I looked at my five year old with an open mouth.

"How did you know that word," I asked.

"I read it on the computer," Sheldon said, "The last time I was at Radio Shack."

"You read that word once and you remembered it," I asked.

"I have an idiotic memory"
