INTRODUCTION:

Nine years ago, Donovan and Victoria's intense three-year relationship ended in a dramatic breakup. Despite the emotional rollercoaster, both considered it the most profound connection they had ever experienced. Their bond was one of deep, genuine love, filled with passion and dreams for the future. However, their immaturity and inability to handle conflicts led to frequent arguments, misunderstandings, and eventually, their heartbreaking separation. Both were left with a lingering sense of "what could have been," a love that felt irreplaceable yet unattainable due to their youthful mistakes.

Since their separation, Victoria has risen to fame as a supermodel, leading a busy and successful life in New York. Despite her achievements, she still yearns for true love. Donovan, on the other hand, has remained in the small town of Durham, dedicating himself to his web development startup and striving to keep his business afloat.

Now, almost a decade later, Victoria has business in England. Curiosity gets the best of her, and she reaches out to Donovan via text, hoping to reignite the spark they once shared. She obtained his new number through her network, unaware that Donovan is now married to Emily. As their past and present collide, the potential for rekindled romance or unresolved tension looms large.

CHAPTER 1: REKINDLING

Donovan Castellanos looked up from his computer screen, squinting at the clock hanging on the wall of his office. It was 3:34 PM, and the soft light of the winter afternoon cast shadows across the room. The message notification on his phone vibrated again, pulling his attention away from the code he had been meticulously crafting for the past four hours. He sighed, swiveling his chair to face the device that lay silent on the desk. The screen lit up with a name from his past, one that had the power to make his heart skip a beat: Victoria Mercer. "Hi Donovan, it's been ages. How are you? - Love Victoria."

He stared at the text, the words echoing in his mind like whispers from a ghost. His thoughts drifted back to their tumultuous relationship, the late-night talks, the fiery arguments, and the moments of passion that had once seemed like the only things that mattered. Their love had been a wildfire, burning through every obstacle, consuming their youthful hearts in a blaze of intensity. But like all fires, it had eventually faded, leaving behind the charred remains of their dreams and a trail of "what-ifs" that had lingered for years.

The digital embers of their past glowed on his screen, and for a moment, Donovan allowed himself to feel the warmth of those memories. He remembered Victoria's laughter, the way it filled the room and lit up her eyes, and the gentle touch of her hand that could soothe his soul during his darkest moments. Despite the years that had passed, the thought of her still had the power to stir something deep within him, a yearning that had never truly disappeared.

When he had first caught a glimpse of her on the cover of a magazine five years ago, her transformation from the girl next door to an international supermodel had taken his breath away. Her beauty was no longer a secret confined to the cobblestone streets of Durham but a spectacle displayed across billboards and glossy pages. Her success had been a meteoric rise, a testament to the fiery spirit he had always known she possessed. Yet, amidst the glitz and glamour, he couldn't help but wonder if she had found the happiness that had eluded them both when they were together.

Donovan picked up his phone, his thumb hovering over the keyboard. He had moved on—no, they had moved on. He didn't want to reopen Pandora's box, but the curiosity was too much to ignore. He typed back, "Victoria, it's been a long time. I'm good. What brings you to England?" His fingers paused, reading over his reply several times before hitting send. He waited, the silence of his office seemingly amplified by the anticipation.

The response came swiftly, "In town for a photo shoot, but I couldn't resist reaching out. Life's been a whirlwind since we last talked. I've missed you, Donovan. Do you remember the good times?"

Donovan felt a knot tighten in his stomach. The anger grew within him, a flame fanned by the audacity of her message. She had no right to assume she could waltz back into his life and expect everything to be as it was. He had moved on, found happiness with Emily, the woman who had stood by him through his thick and thin. He composed a reply, his thumbs moving with purposeful precision. "Victoria, I've moved on. I'm married now, to an amazing woman who understands and supports me. What we had was a long time ago. I wish you the best, but please respect my life now." He took a deep breath, hitting send with a finality that felt like slamming a door shut.

The phone remained silent for what felt like an eternity. The office grew colder, the shadows lengthening as the sun dipped below the horizon. Finally, it buzzed back to life. "I had no idea, Donovan. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to cause any trouble. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Can we at least be friends?" Her words were filled with a sincerity that resonated deep within him. The part of him that had never fully let go of her ached to respond, to rekindle their friendship, if not more.
