Aoi Hyoudou: Thank you for your continued support. It's always great to see readers enjoying the additional scenes and content added to a story. Well, the time is now for the real plot to begin! As mentioned previously, Ash will gain a new outfit and his attempt to save Aqua will hit a roadblock as we know in KH3, Aqua becomes Anti-Aqua which will give Ash, Riku and Mickey a difficult time defeating her, unlike the game version where her boss fight was way too easy. Expect Xhäs to get involved with Anti-Aqua in some way as well.
XXIV
Saving Aqua
Ash navigated through the vast expanse of space, his Keyblade armor gleaming under the light of distant stars. The Mysterious Tower loomed ahead. As he neared the tower, his heart raced with anticipation and determination. This mission to save Aqua was critical, and he knew that every second counted. Upon arriving at the Mysterious Tower, Ash gracefully landed his glider and dismounted. He deactivated his armor with a swift motion, the pieces dissolving into light. He took a deep breath and approached the entrance, ready to join the others.
Inside, the familiar sight of the grand, spiraling staircase greeted him. He ascended quickly, his mind focused on the task at hand. Reaching the top, he found Riku, Mickey, and Yen Sid already gathered around a large, glowing map of the Realm of Darkness.
Riku glanced up as Ash entered. "Ash, glad you made it."
Ash nodded, stepping closer to the group. "I'm ready. What's the plan?"
Yen Sid spoke up. "We have located a potential point of entry into the Realm of Darkness. However, it is fraught with danger. We must be prepared for anything."
Mickey nodded in agreement. "Aqua's been down there for too long. We need to get her out, but we'll need to work together and stay focused."
Riku pointed to a specific spot on the map. "This is where we'll enter. From there, we'll need to navigate through the darkness to find Aqua. It's not going to be easy, but we have to succeed."
Ash looked at the map, absorbing the details. "Whatever it takes, we'll bring her back."
Yen Sid's gaze softened slightly. "Remember, the darkness is treacherous. Be on your guard."
Sora and Kairi listened intently as the group discussed their plan to enter the Realm of Darkness. Sora, however, was feeling a bit pouty about not being included in the rescue mission, especially since Ash was part of it.
"Why can't I go?" Sora complained, crossing his arms. "Ash is going, and he's still new at being a Keyblade wielder!"
Riku sighed, trying to stay patient. "Sora, we've been over this. You still don't have the power of awakening. It's too risky to bring you along if things don't go as planned."
"I can help!" Sora argued.
Yen Sid stepped in with a firm yet kind tone. "Riku is right, Sora. It's wise for you to stay behind and continue your training."
Even Mickey nodded in agreement. "We need you at your best, Sora. This mission is too crucial to take unnecessary risks."
Kairi placed a reassuring hand on Sora's shoulder. "Don't worry, Sora. You'll get your chance soon. Just keep training, and you'll be ready before you know it."
"But why Ash?" Sora persisted. "Why is he on the mission?"
Yen Sid's gaze softened with a knowing smile. "Ash has a unique connection to Aqua. She entrusted him with something very special, which makes him an invaluable asset for this mission."
Ash looked baffled. "What do you mean, Master Yen Sid?"
The old wizard's smile widened. "In time, Ash, you will understand the significance of what you carry. For now, trust that it's for a reason." Ash nodded, still looking puzzled.
Yen Sid then glanced at Ash's rugged clothes. "Before you depart, you should see the good fairies for an upgrade."
Ash agreed and headed to the next room, where the good fairies awaited. They eagerly debated his new outfit.
"How about something practical yet stylish?" Flora suggested.
"Yes, but it should also enhance his abilities," Fauna added.
After some discussion, they agreed on a design. In a flash of light, Ash emerged in black pants and a light blue sleeveless shirt, accented with light blue boots and white stripes. His arms were adorned with black detached sleeves featuring golden ornaments at the top, and a golden collar piece around his neck.
Ash stood in front of a mirror, admiring his new look. The good fairies had truly outdone themselves. The outfit was both stylish and functional, and the new armor activation feature was a welcome addition. He turned to the fairies with a broad smile on his face.
"Thank you so much! This is amazing!" Ash exclaimed, still in awe of his new attire.
Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather beamed with pride. "It was our pleasure, dear," Flora said. "We wanted to make sure you were well-prepared for your mission."
"This collar piece will allow you to activate your Keyblade armor with a touch," Merryweather explained.
"And the garments are imbued with magic resistance, helping you against both elements and darkness," Flora added.
Fauna nodded with a smile. "They will also offer protection against the darkness itself."
Ash looked down at his new outfit, impressed. "Wow, this is incredible. It feels so comfortable and light!"
The fairies beamed with satisfaction. "We knew you'd like it. Now, go and show them what you're made of!"
Ash nodded with a big grin. "Thanks again. I'll do my best!"
As he stepped out of the room, he was met by the expectant gazes of his friends. Sora, still looking a bit pouty, couldn't help but be impressed. "Nice outfit, Ash. I guess they really went all out."
Ash chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah, they did. Thanks, Sora."
Kairi stepped forward and surveyed Ash's new look, eyeing him up and down before leaning in closely for a better view. Ash's cheeks slightly blushed as Kairi pulled back and grinned. "It suits you very well, Ash. You look kinda hot in it," she teased.
"T-Thanks, Kairi," Ash said sheepishly, earning a jealous glare from Sora.
"Hey!" Sora growled, causing Kairi to glance back at her crush. "What about me, Kairi? Do I look kinda hot in my outfit?" he asked.
Kairi placed her finger on her cheek in a playful manner and pretended to ponder. "You look good, Sora, but it's just your old outfit but red. Nothing too special. Ash's outfit has a cool vibe to it." She then shifted her attention to Riku. "Don't you think so, Riku?"
Riku offered a half-amused smile. "I suppose it fits his taste. At least, he's not wearing giant clown shoes like Sora is."
"Riku!" Sora shouted with a pout, causing everyone to laugh.
After much teasing, the group refocused as Riku glanced at Ash. "You ready, Ash?" he asked, his tone serious but encouraging. Ash gave a determined nod in response.
Riku stepped forward and extended his palm. A dark portal to the Realm of Darkness materialized with a faint, ominous hum, startling Ash.
"Wait! You can actually open one of those?" Ash asked, his eyes wide with surprise.
Riku smirked. "Of course. I've managed to control my darkness. You can learn to do it too, if you practice."
"I can?" Ash asked with confusion, which earned a knowing chuckle from Riku.
"Absolutely, but that's not our concern right now. Aqua's waiting for us. Let's move," Riku instructed firmly, his gaze shifting back to the portal.
Ash nodded. "Right. Let's go."
Realm of Darkness - Dark Margin
A dark portal opened within the Dark Margin, and stepping out were Ash, Riku, and King Mickey. The group surveyed the bleak, shadowed landscape, where Ash could immediately feel the heavy, oppressive atmosphere. He was grateful for his new outfit, which seemed to shield him from the worst of the dark influence. His eyes scanned the desolate, beach-like shore, but a frown quickly formed on his lips. There was no sign of Aqua anywhere.
"Where's Aqua?" he asked, his voice tinged with worry.
Riku cupped his chin, sharing Ash's concern. It was strange that she was nowhere to be seen. They had encountered her here before, so they were certain this was the right spot. Mickey's concern grew, but he maintained his composure.
"Stay on your guard," Mickey advised, his voice steady but serious. "Something doesn't feel right."
Ash and Riku nodded as they cautiously moved forward. The oppressive silence of the Dark Margin only heightened their anxiety, each of them acutely aware of the dangers that lurked in the shadows. They knew Aqua was here somewhere, and they were determined to find her and bring her home.
The group felt their feet sinking into the soft sand with each step they took, cautiously scanning their surroundings for any sign of Aqua. A sinking feeling grew in their chests, suggesting they were not alone in the realm. As they pressed further, a blob of darkness began forming behind them. Mickey's ears perked up as he sensed something and stopped in his tracks, turning to see a mass of Shadows twisting up from the sand, forming a menacing Demon Tower.
"Oh no!" Mickey's cry alerted Ash and Riku, who spun around to see the terrifying sight.
"What in the world is that?" Ash exclaimed, eyes wide with shock.
The Demon Tower immediately charged past Mickey, heading straight for Riku. The Keyblade Master raised his weapon in defense, but the whirlwind of Shadows engulfed him almost instantly.
"Riku!" Ash and Mickey cried out in unison as Riku's Keyblade flew from the dark mass and landed in the sand.
The Demon Tower then turned its attention to Ash, surging toward him. Mickey acted quickly, pushing Ash out of the way as the dark entity swallowed him too. Mickey's Keyblade flew out and struck the sand beside Riku's.
"Mickey!" Ash cried out in horror, watching as the Demon Tower split into two dark spheres. Before he could react, a figure shrouded in darkness leaped out from one of the spheres and landed a few feet away from him. Ash stared cautiously at the figure as it slowly approached Mickey's Keyblade. Meanwhile, Mickey and Riku's heads were visible within the dark spheres, their movements restricted by the imprisoning darkness.
The mysterious figure picked up the Keyblade, and a familiar voice echoed. "This... Keyblade..."
Mickey's ears perked up. "Wait... is that her?" he asked softly, recognizing the voice. Riku's expression hardened, and Ash's eyes widened in disbelief as he heard the figure speak.
"Wait... that couldn't be..." Ash's thoughts were confirmed when the darkness slowly dissipated, revealing Aqua, though she looked completely different. Her once blue hair was now bleached, her outfit more edgy, and her skin tone darker. Her eyes, now yellow like a Heartless, glinted with a cruel smile as she greeted him.
"We finally meet again, Ash."
"A-Aqua?!" Ash stammered, barely able to believe his eyes.
Aqua's lips curled into a sinister grin. "Surprised to see me like this? This is what happens when you spend too long in the darkness."
Ash's heart sank. "Aqua... what happened to you?"
Aqua's expression remained cold. "I've embraced the darkness, Ash. It's the only way to survive here. You should've come sooner."
Mickey and Riku struggled within their dark prisons, unable to help. Ash knew he had to act quickly. "Aqua, this isn't you. We're here to bring you back!"
Aqua laughed bitterly. "Bring me back? There's nothing left to save. But if you insist, you'll have to prove your strength."
Ash gripped his Keyblade tightly. "Then I'll do whatever it takes to save you, Aqua."
"You think you can save me, Ash?" Aqua's voice was mocking, her grin twisted with dark amusement. "Show me what you've got."
Ash's heart pounded in his chest, but he didn't back down. "I won't let the darkness take you, Aqua. Not when we've come this far."
Anti-Aqua chuckled in amusement at her apprentice's determination, turning away and gliding across the water as if she were floating. Ash gripped his Oathkeeper tightly, knowing he was in a fight for his life. With Mickey's Keyblade in her grasp, Anti-Aqua smirked and announced, "Then very well, let's see what my apprentice is capable of! I hope you're ready for me, Ash!"
She sprinted forward at incredible speed, and their Keyblades clashed with a resounding crash. The impact sent shockwaves through the Dark Margin. Ash gritted his teeth, feeling the overwhelming strength behind Anti-Aqua's strikes. She was far stronger than the Aqua he remembered, but he couldn't afford to back down. He pulled back and charged at her, matching blow for blow.
Mickey and Riku watched nervously as the sound of clashing metal echoed through the dark realm, sparks flying with each strike. Ash managed to hold his own, evading and parrying her swings. But it didn't last long. She cut his cheek and grazed his shoulder before sending him sliding backward with a powerful kick, which he absorbed with his Oathkeeper.
"Is that all you got, Ash?" Anti-Aqua mocked, her voice dripping with disdain. "I thought you were better than this. Are you holding back just for me?"
Ash glared sharply, about to cast Fira, but he hesitated, not wanting to hurt Aqua too badly. Anti-Aqua saw this and charged forward, overwhelming him with heavy strikes, forcing him on the defensive.
Riku, frustrated by Ash's reluctance, shouted, "Ash! You can't hold back! Fight for both of you. If you don't, we can't save her!"
"Easy for you to say, Riku..." Ash muttered between evasions. "You're not the one fighting her!"
He stepped back to avoid another powerful slash, which tore his shirt. "Riku is right, Ash!" Mickey called out. "You have to reach her, even if it means hurting her. It's the only way."
Anti-Aqua's Keyblade pressed down against Ash's Oathkeeper with a sinister smirk. "They're right, Ash," she mocked. "Quit holding back for little old me."
Ash's eyes narrowed. He knew she left him with no choice. "You asked for it!" he roared, pressing forward with renewed determination. His strikes grew heavier and more precise, pushing Anti-Aqua back.
She was taken aback by his sudden ferocity, barely able to deflect and dodge his attacks. With every clash, Ash's strikes grew stronger, fueled by his determination to save Aqua. He remembered all the moments they shared, the lessons she taught him, and the kindness she showed. He couldn't let the darkness win. His attacks became more precise, and his resolve hardened.
"Come on, Aqua!" Ash shouted, his voice filled with emotion. "I know you're in there! Fight the darkness!"
For a moment, Aqua's eyes flickered, her true self struggling to break free. She staggered, and Ash seized the opportunity. With a powerful swing, he knocked Mickey's Keyblade from her hand, sending it flying across the sand. Anti-Aqua fell to her knees, clutching her head as the darkness around her wavered.
"Ash..." her voice trembled, a mixture of Aqua and the darkness.
Ash approached cautiously, his Keyblade still at the ready. "Aqua, please, come back to us."
Anti-Aqua looked up, her eyes flickering between yellow and blue as she struggled to maintain control over the darkness. "I... I can't..." she murmured, her voice filled with anguish. Before Ash could react, she lunged forward, her Keyblade reappearing in her grasp. The two clashed once more, the force of their confrontation sending shockwaves through the Dark Margin. "You think you can defeat me?" Anti-Aqua snarled, her voice icy with cold fury.
Ash grimaced, being pushed back by the sheer power of her strikes. "I'm not giving up!" he retorted, his resolve unwavering.
"Then eat this!" Anti-Aqua shouted as she unleashed a volley of dark ice crystals at Ash.
"Fira!" Ash aimed his Keyblade and cast Fira, countering the onslaught of dark ice. He rolled to the side to narrowly avoid a spinning crystal before shattering it into a thousand pieces with another burst of flame.
Anti-Aqua's frustration was evident, her eyes flashing with dark energy. "You're becoming a real thorn in my side!" she exclaimed. With a wave of her hand, she summoned dark clones of herself. They lunged forward with relentless aggression, their attacks coming from every direction.
"There's too many of them!" Ash shouted as he struggled to parry the clones' strikes, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He used Fira and Blizzaga to keep them at bay, the spells creating a temporary shield against the overwhelming onslaught.
When the clones began firing dark energy blasts, Ash intercepted them with a fully charged Fira. "Fira!" he yelled as the blast erupted in a deafening explosion that shook the Dark Margin.
Bbbooooooooooommmmmmmm
As the smoke from the explosion cleared, Ash felt the weight of fatigue pressing down on him. His movements were becoming slower, but he knew he had to push through. "I need to turn this around," he muttered, his voice strained. "Thunder!" He quickly cast Thunder to momentarily stun the clones, the lightning crackling through the air. "Fira!" he shouted. Seizing the opportunity, he followed up with a powerful Fira, sending the stunned clones flying backwards.
However, just as Ash was about to regain his footing, the real Anti-Aqua appeared behind him with a swift and brutal kick to his back, sending him sprawling forward. He landed heavily on his stomach, groaning in pain, as the Oathkeeper flew from his grasp. Anti-Aqua wasted no time in pinning him down, planting one foot on his back and the other on his wrist, keeping him from reaching his Keyblade. Ash let out another pained groan as he tried to reach for it in vain.
"Ash!" Mickey and Riku shouted in unison, their voices filled with concern as they watched helplessly from within their dark prison. Anti-Aqua loomed over Ash, her gaze cruel and triumphant. She pointed Mickey's Keyblade at Ash's face, an evil smirk spreading across her features.
"Looks like I have you right where I want you, Ash," she taunted, her voice dripping with malice. Sweat trickled down Ash's face as he looked up at her.
"Aqua, please... you don't have to do this," Ash pleaded, but his words fell on deaf ears. Anti-Aqua merely scoffed and pressed the Keyblade firmly against his cheek, the cold metal biting into his skin.
"Too late, Ash. This is where your journey ends," she declared with a twisted smile. She raised the Keyblade high above her head, savoring the look of fear on Ash's face.
"Farewell, Ash!" Anti-Aqua's voice was a cruel sneer as she began her downward swing.
Just then, a spinning black Keyblade whizzed through the air, forcing Anti-Aqua to block the attack with Mickey's Keyblade. The sudden distraction caused her to falter, giving Ash the moment he needed. With renewed determination, he lunged for his Oathkeeper and, with a desperate cry, fired a powerful Fira at Anti-Aqua.
"Fira!" The blazing fireball hurtled towards her, engulfing her in a blinding explosion.
Bbbooooooooooommmmmmmm
The Dark Margin trembled under the force of the blast. As the smoke began to clear, Ash quickly scanned the area, hoping to catch sight of Xhäs, but there was no sign of the Nobody. His focus, however, was solely on the clearing smoke where Anti-Aqua had been.
When the smoke finally dissipated, Anti-Aqua was down on one knee, her body smoking from the explosion. Despite her evident injuries, her yellow eyes burned with fury as she glared up at Ash.
"You... will pay for that!" she snarled, struggling to her feet. Her rage was palpable, and it was clear she wasn't finished yet.
Ash braced himself, holding his Oathkeeper tightly. He knew Anti-Aqua's fight was far from over. With a roar, she lunged forward, her attacks more ferocious and relentless than before. Ash fought back with every ounce of strength he had left, but fatigue was beginning to take its toll.
Each clash of their Keyblades left more scratches and cuts on Ash's body, and it was evident he was being pushed to his limits. The battle raged on with Ash backed into a corner, struggling to keep up against the relentless onslaught of Anti-Aqua's dark fury.
"This is bad... He's at his limits," Riku muttered, his voice filled with concern as he watched Ash struggle against Anti-Aqua.
"We have to do something!" Mickey looked equally worried.
"We can't help him, Mickey... We're stuck here unless something miraculous happens."
The two Keyblade wielders helplessly observed Ash, who had just been knocked hard onto his back by one of Anti-Aqua's powerful strikes. Slowly, Ash managed to push himself to his feet, determination etched on his face despite his evident exhaustion and injuries.
"Just give up, Ash, and maybe I'll make your end quick and painless," Anti-Aqua taunted, her voice cold and unforgiving.
"I told you, Aqua..." Ash responded, his voice strained but resolute. "I promised I would save you, and that's exactly what I'm going to do."
Anti-Aqua's patience wore thin. "You're so stubborn!" she snapped, launching forward with a powerful kick that sent Ash sprawling, his body bouncing and groaning as he landed a few feet away. He lay on his stomach in the sand, his Oathkeeper out of reach.
"Ash!" Mickey and Riku cried in unison, their voices laced with desperation.
Anti-Aqua approached Ash with a menacing stride as he struggled to get up. Just then, Ash's eyes caught sight of a familiar charm lying inches from his face in the sand. It was Aqua's Wayfinder, which must have fallen out of his pocket when he landed. If words alone couldn't reach her, maybe this charm—a symbol of their bond—would.
With a determined effort, Ash reached for the Wayfinder and clasped it tightly in his hand. Summoning his remaining strength, he staggered to his feet. Anti-Aqua, noticing his refusal to stay down, charged at him, her blade raised high.
"It's over, Ash!" she declared, her voice echoing with finality.
As she closed the gap and prepared to strike, Ash held out the Wayfinder in front of him, desperation in his eyes. Anti-Aqua's yellow eyes widened at the sight of the charm. She screeched to a halt, staring at it in disbelief.
"I-Is that...?" she muttered, her voice wavering.
"Yes, Aqua," Ash said wearily, "It's your charm. You gave it to me when we first met. Please, remember."
A flicker of recognition passed over Anti-Aqua's face. "That's right…" she whispered, her hand trembling as she reached for the Wayfinder. As she grasped it, memories of her time with Ventus and Terra began to flood her mind, mingling with the moments she had shared with Ash.
"I-I remember," she stammered, clutching her head in pain as the charm and her body began to emit a brilliant light.
Ash, bewildered by the sudden turn of events, felt a powerful energy surging within him. "W-What's going on?" he wondered aloud.
"Hey, what is that?" Riku asked, observing the strange light.
Mickey's eyes widened with realization. "That's not the power of awakening," he said, catching Riku's attention. "It's the power of the heart dormant within Ash."
"The power of the heart?" Riku echoed, confused.
"Yes," Mickey explained, "Only those with strong hearts can inherit this ability, like a prince or princess of heart. It can cleanse any heart from darkness and do many wonders for the user who possesses it."
Riku's eyes widened. "It sounds almost similar to the power of awakening."
Mickey nodded. "Yes and no. Those with the power of the heart can control Kingdom Hearts. It's a profound and rare gift."
"What?"
As the light continued to shine, Ash, sensing the newfound power within him, extended his hand toward Anti-Aqua. The darkness surrounding her began to dissipate as the light enveloped her. Slowly, Anti-Aqua reverted to her original self, her familiar blue hair and calm demeanor returning.
The light also reached Mickey and Riku's prison, startling them both. It was clear that Ash's new power had a significant effect on darkness connected to its original host.
As the light faded, Ash gave Aqua a weak but sincere smile. "Welcome back, Aqua," he said softly.
Tears welled up in Aqua's eyes as she looked at Ash with profound gratitude. Before she could express her thanks properly, however, Ash's strength gave out. He collapsed on his back, unconscious from the strain.
"Ash!" Aqua cried out, rushing to his side, her heart aching with concern as she cradled him gently.
"Aqua!" Mickey and Riku called out, running up to her. They noticed Aqua cradling an unconscious Ash in her arms, worry etched on her face.
"Don't worry, Aqua. Ash is just exhausted from everything that happened. A little rest, and he'll be good as new," Mickey reassured her with a comforting smile.
Aqua sighed in relief. "That's good," she said softly. She then felt Ash stirring slightly in her arms. Glancing down, she saw his eyes slowly opening, meeting her concerned blue ones.
"Aqua...?" he said groggily. "Is that really you, or am I dreaming again?"
Aqua giggled at his silliness. "Of course it's me, you goof," she replied gently. Then, in a bold move, she leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on Ash's forehead, causing him to blush deeply.
"Oh, my," Mickey said, jokingly covering his eyes to give the two some privacy.
"Well, I'll be," Riku added with a smirk. "I didn't expect this. I hope Terra won't find out about this."
"W-What was that for?" Ash asked, still flustered.
Aqua giggled at her student's reaction. "A thank you for keeping your promise, remember? Or did you suddenly hit your head and forget?" she teased.
"Oh right, I did, didn't I?" Ash said, smiling up at her.
"Yes, you did," Aqua replied, her voice full of warmth. She helped Ash sit up, still supporting him as he regained his bearings.
Riku approached and placed a reassuring hand on Ash's shoulder. "You did great, Ash. You really saved her."
Ash nodded, feeling a mix of exhaustion and relief. "I couldn't have done it without all of you," he admitted.
"Gosh, Ash, you don't have to be too modest," Mickey said teasingly. "Especially in front of Aqua."
"Yeah, dude, quit showing off," Riku added with a smirk.
"I-I wasn't!" Ash protested, his cheeks flushing a deep shade of red, much to Aqua's amusement.
"Aww, you're so cute when you're embarrassed, Ash," Aqua teased, giggling.
Ash groaned in response, causing more laughter from the group. After a few moments of playful teasing, Riku decided to shift the focus.
"Alright, let's head back. I'm sure Kairi and Sora would love to see you again, Aqua," he said, his words putting a smile on the Keyblade Master's face.
"I would like to see how they have grown since I last saw them," she said warmly.
"Alright, let me get us o-" Riku started, but was interrupted by Aqua.
"Just a second, Riku. How about I do the honors?" she asked, surprising the group.
"Wait, you can open one of those portals too, Aqua?" Ash gawked at her.
Aqua shrugged. "I won't know until I try." She then glanced at Riku. "May I?"
"Oh, uh, sure?" he said uncertainly, unsure how to reply or deny her request.
The group watched as Aqua took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and held out her palm. At first, nothing happened, but then a portal finally appeared and opened up, shocking everyone.
"Gosh, Aqua, you actually opened one up," Mickey said in awe. "But how did you know you could do it?"
Aqua couldn't fully explain it but she felt something within her guiding her, a gut feeling she trusted. "I just had a feeling I could," she said, a bit baffled herself.
Satisfied, the group decided to head back, stepping through the portal to Yen Sid's Mysterious Tower.
Meanwhile, hidden behind a boulder within the Dark Margin, Xhäs observed the scene with a slight smile beneath his hood. "Nicely done, Ash. You didn't need my help that much this time around. Although it is a little concerning now why the old man and his little pawns are interested in you. The power of the heart... the key to controlling Kingdom Hearts at will..."
The Nobody leaned off the boulder, his smile fading as he began approaching his own portal. "Guess it's time to move forward with the plan and become one with you sooner than expected," he muttered before walking through the portal, which closed behind him.
Mysterious Tower
Back at Yen Sid's Mysterious Tower, Sora paced anxiously in the grand chamber. Kairi, Goofy, and Donald watched him with concern, having arrived some time ago. Yen Sid sat behind his desk, observing the scene with a calm demeanor.
"Come on, Sora, I'm sure His Majesty and the others will be back any time now," Goofy reassured.
"Yeah, quit pacing around. You're going to wear out Master Yen Sid's floor," Donald quacked.
"They're right, Sora. You need to stop worrying," Kairi added gently.
Sora halted his pacing and glanced at his friends, worry still evident. "How can I not worry, Kairi? They've been gone for hours," he said, earning an eye roll from Kairi.
"Please, Sora, you're exaggerating. They've only been gone for an hour," she corrected.
"That's an hour too long!" Sora argued, earning groans from Kairi, Goofy, and Donald.
The group tensed up when a portal appeared, alerting them to stand ready. The sound of heels clacking on the floor announced the arrival of Aqua, causing the group's eyes to widen in surprise.
"No way..." Kairi muttered. "Is that..."
A big grin spread across Sora's face until Goofy and Donald knocked him forward in their rush to greet Aqua.
"Aqua!" They dashed forward and embraced her in a tight hug.
"Goofy! Donald! It's been so long!" Aqua laughed as King Mickey's loyal friends continued to embrace her.
"Aqua, we're so glad you're alright!" Goofy said with a chuckle.
"We missed you!" Donald quacked happily.
"I missed you both," Aqua said warmly.
Yen Sid smiled, watching the reunion before glancing at Ash with a nod of approval. Ash rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
As Aqua pulled away from Goofy and Donald, her eyes fell on two familiar faces she hadn't seen for over a decade. "Sora. Kairi. It's been a long time. You two have grown so much since I last saw you," the Keyblade Master said with a smile.
"It's good to see you too, Aqua. We're so glad you've finally been rescued from the Realm of Darkness," Kairi said with a warm smile.
"It's a shame I missed out on all the action. I wish I was there to see it happen when you were rescued, Aqua," Sora said with a pout, earning a chuckle from her.
"Don't worry, Sora, your time will come." Her gaze then fell on the familiar wizard in the blue robe. "Master Yen Sid," she said respectfully with a small smile.
"Master Aqua, I am relieved you have returned in one piece. Welcome back," Yen Sid said genuinely.
"Thank you, Master Yen Sid. It's all thanks to Ash and the others. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here," she stated with gratitude.
"See—" Kairi nudged Sora in his side with her elbow. "—I told you Ash was cool," she said with a grin.
"Hey! And I'm not?" Sora protested, placing his hands on his hips and pouting.
The group laughed at his inconvenience. Once the laughter settled down, Yen Sid brought the group's attention to their next plan of action, which was saving Ven. Aqua's face lit up with a knowing smile, confident about where to find him since she was the one who hid his vessel away before she fell to the Realm of Darkness.
"I know where to find Ven," Aqua said confidently. "I hid his body in the Chamber of Waking within Castle Oblivion."
"Castle Oblivion?" Sora repeated, his curiosity piqued.
"Yes," Aqua confirmed. "It's a place that's difficult to navigate and full of dangers, but I can guide us through it."
Yen Sid nodded. "Very well. Time is of the essence. We must move quickly and retrieve Ventus before the darkness can get to him."
Ash stepped forward. "We'll get him back, Master Yen Sid. I promise."
"Good," Yen Sid said, his eyes reflecting his trust in the young Keyblade wielders. "May your hearts be your guiding key."
A happy reunion was what we needed. And Aqua continues to be a strong candidate for Ash's love interests. As for the original plan to split the rescue into two parts, I decided to scrap the idea. After rewatching the Anti-Aqua Boss battle, it was pointless to drag it out. Hope you like it still and aren't too concerned about Ash's showing against her. Sure, there was some shenanigans in the mix, but at least at the end of the day, Ash saved Aqua from the darkness. Up next is...Awakening Ventus from his slumber. Sora, Donald, and Goofy will tag along with Ash and Aqua as the third wheel so hope you're ready for it.
Extra scene: Outfit approval?
"Hmm..." Aqua hummed as she stared at Ash intently.
Ash fidgeted under her intense gaze. "A-Aqua?"
Aqua took a moment to compose herself, trying to focus on the situation rather than the unexpected thoughts about Ash's new outfit. She cleared her throat and offered him a reassuring smile. "You look... different," Aqua said, choosing her words carefully. "But it's a good kind of different. The outfit suits you, and it seems to be functional for combat. It's just... a bit more revealing than what I'm used to seeing you in."
Ash rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a bit self-conscious. "Yeah, the good fairies thought it would be practical. And they did say it complements my abilities, especially with the Keyblade armor feature."
Aqua nodded, her expression softening. "They have a knack for that. And it does make you look more mature, like a seasoned Keyblade wielder."
Ash's face brightened with a mix of pride and relief. "Thanks, Aqua. That means a lot coming from you."
Aqua chuckled lightly. "No problem, Ash."
But then a flash of light momentarily blinded Ash.
Ash blinked in surprise, caught off guard when Aqua whipped out a Gummiphone. "Did you just take a picture of me?" he asked, his voice a mix of confusion and amusement.
Aqua quickly pocketed the Gummiphone, her cheeks slightly flushed. "Just... for research," she replied, sounding nonchalant.
Ash raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. "Research? Like what?"
Aqua hesitated, searching for a plausible explanation. "Um... you know, to study and take notes on your new outfit and how it complements your fighting style."
Ash crossed his arms, giving her a knowing look. "You're lying..."
Aqua's face reddened further, but she straightened her posture, meeting his gaze defiantly. "So what if I am?"
Ash chuckled, shaking his head. "Alright, alright. Just don't go showing it to everyone."
Aqua smiled innocently. "Don't worry, it's just for my personal... research."
