"Charizard, the Flame Pokemon. Type: Fire/Flying. Its wings can carry this Pokémon close to an altitude of 4,600 feet. It blows out fire at very high temperatures."
Kalos Power Plant (Evening)
"Use Assurance, Mightyena!" a woman in bright red clothing called out. Her Pokemon lunged at its opponent, then struck it twice with its claws.
"Honedge, return." a blonde teenager said as he called the Sword Pokemon back. The boy wore a red jacket and a black undershirt, as well as a pair of torn jeans and sneakers. On his hand was a glove with a rainbow-colored stone sewn into the back.
This boy was Dominic Xiao-Long, a Pokemon Trainer on a journey through Kalos. He entered the Kalos Power Plant out of curiosity, wondering why half of Lumiose City was in a blackout. It turned out to be the work of Team Flare, a group of extremists that were siphoning away the energy being generated by the plant. The woman he was fighting was one of Team Flare's Scientists, Aliana.
"Just give up, kid. This is something bigger than what you're used to." the woman taunted as her Mightyena growled.
"I'll give up when I'm dead." Dominic said, bringing out his last Poke Ball. "Please help me win this, Charmeleon!" he shouted as he threw the ball, releasing his partner. "Use Fire Fang!" Charmeleon's teeth became coated in flames as it ran toward Mightyena.
"A feeble attempt. Use Scary Face!" Aliana commanded, prompting her Pokemon to glare menacingly at Charmeleon, causing it to stop moving. "Now use Assurance!" The Bite Pokemon attacked with its claws, landing a critical hit and forcing Charmeleon to stop using Fire Fang.
'This is bad. Charmeleon isn't strong enough to deal with constant attacks like this.' Dominic thought to himself, worried. 'But I can't give up, either. Both Charmeleon and I want to be stronger, and we can't do that if we run away!' Clenching his fists, the Trainer called out to his partner. "Charmeleon, are we going to let them push us around!?" The Flame Pokemon stood up after hearing those words. "Flame Burst!"
With a ferocious roar, Charmeleon gathered fire energy in its maw before launching it at Mightyena, exploding against the canine Pokemon and scattering embers everywhere.
"There we go!" Dominic cheered. Then, a bright light filled the room. Charmeleon sprouted wings, and its horn split in two, and it grew much larger. "Did Charmeleon just Evolve?" the boy wondered aloud, checking his Pokedex. "Congratulations, Charizard!" The newly Evolved Pokemon roared in triumph, proud of its new power.
"Don't think you've won just yet, you brat! Mightyena, Roar!" Aliana said, defiant. Mightyena let out a loud roar, raising its Attack power. "Now use Assurance!" Mightyena ran toward Charizard, ready to attack.
"Charizard, what do you say we try out a new Move?" Dominic asked, to which his partner nodded. "Time to use Air Slash!" Charizard's wings glowed as it beat them savagely, forming blades of wind that struck Mightyena with immense force. Defeated, the Bite Pokemon fell over, unconscious. "Way to go, Charizard! We actually won!" Dominic said, rushing to hug his partner.
"This isn't over, brat." Aliana said, calling back her Pokemon. "Count your blessings, 'cause next time I won't lose." And just like that, she retreated.
Charizard tried flying to chase her, but fell over instead. "Be careful. You just Evolved." Dominic said, helping his Pokemon back up. "Don't worry, we'll gain sky supremacy soon. We just need practice." Seeing his partner's dejected face, Dominic tried to cheer it up. "Look on the bright side, now we can pull off Mega Evolution." the blonde said, holding out his Mega Glove. "After we get out of here, we'll call Korrina and see if she and her Lucario have any tips, okay?" After that, the two started walking toward the exit.
Charizard nodded, conflicting emotions swirling inside of it. On one hand, it was glad that it finally reached its final Evolutionary stage, but on the other hand, it wanted to get stronger as soon as possible. That was the quickest way to achieve its dream, which it shared with its Trainer.
Able to tell what his Pokemon was thinking by seeing its facial expression, Dominic became worried. "You want to get stronger for me, don't you?" he asked. "While I appreciate it, we won't be able to do anything if we just rush through things. We have to take it slow for now, especially since you've just Evolved. We can't expect to get stronger if we keep training the way we have up to now." The boy looked into Charizard's eyes. "But no matter what happens, I have faith that we'll be able to reach our goal. We only need to be patient."
The Flame Pokemon decided to listen to its Trainer's advice. After all, being patient led it to meeting him in the first place and Evolving this far. And soon, it would be able to Mega Evolve just like Korrina's Lucario. With that kind of power, it knew for certain that its Trainer's dream would be met.
To surpass all other Pokemon and Trainer in the world.
The two finally reached the exit door for the Power Plant, and they saw the bright orange sunset as they left. Charizard looked anxious. "Do you want to try flying?" Dominic asked, to which the Pokemon nodded. "Well, go for it!"
Filled with excitement, Charizard got a running start and began flapping its wings. Feeling the wind beneath them, Charizard took flight for the first time. The feeling was indescribable, like a million fireworks going off in its stomach. Triumphant, it fired a Flame Burst into the air, exploding into several particles of harmless red light.
Back on the ground, Dominic felt pride, not only in his training, but in how far Charizard had come since they first met back in Professor Sycamore's lab. Memories of Charmander's fighting spirit brought a smile to his face. "I have a feeling that we'll have a lot of great adventures together, and we'll use each one to get stronger."
