"How was your date last night?" Jean smirked as Kendra gave her a look. "That good, huh?"
"You being a telepath sometimes spoils me sharing things."
"You mean sharing vocally. We're so close you don't need to do that."
"True." Kendra smiled. "Have you seen Ororo yet?"
"No. She sent me a text last night saying her husband was coming to see her, so I imagine that means she won't be around."
"I guess we'll have to postpone girls' night with her then, especially with Wyn in the Capitol with Hank."
Jean nodded. "You think Rogue will want to hang out?"
"Maybe. Last time I spoke to her, she sounded pretty depressed now that Logan's off on a road trip."
"She really likes him, huh?"
"Seems that way." Kendra shrugged. "Right now I think she's cultivating friendship and is waiting to see where it goes from there."
"Sounds like someone else I know."
"Yeah well, that person probably encouraged her by saying friends is a great place to start."
Jean chuckled. "That is true. Want to go see if she's interested in doing something while I grab some snacks?"
"Sure." Kendra smiled and walked to Rogue's room, knocking on the door.
Rogue peeked out. "Oh hi, Kendra. What's up?"
"Jean and I were wondering if you would be interested in hanging out? We usually watch movies, paint our nails or something overly girly to laugh about."
"Sounds better than moping around."
Kendra nodded. "Come on then, we're meeting up at Jean's room."
Rogue followed her down the halls. "How can you keep this place straight?"
"It takes a while, but repetition is the best way to form memories."
"Morning, chers."
"Long time no see, Gambit." Kendra smiled as Rogue jumped a bit. "This is one of the new kids Rogue."
"A pleasure. Sorry to startle you, I have the habit of not being noticed by everyone except a few around here."
"It's okay." Rogue looked embarrassed by her reaction. "I should be used to other mutants popping in by now."
Gambit flashed a grin. "Depends on how long you've been here, cher."
"A little over a week."
"You still got time. Took me a month not to get lost in this place." He laughed. "Anyway, you chers have a good day."
"You too, Gambit."
"Yeah, it was nice meeting you." Rogue watched him walk off curiously. "He seems nice."
Kendra nodded. "A lot of people just see him as intimidating, but yeah. He comes and goes a lot, so not everyone knows him."
"Where's he from?"
"Louisiana. He doesn't talk much about his private life outside of that. Mutants come from all sorts of different backgrounds and not all were pleasant, so we all understand."
"Logan doesn't remember a lot of his past." Rogue sighed. "When he said goodbye, he indicated he hoped that the road trip would jog his memory like the Professor suggested."
"Visiting sites your memory indicates you may have been to often do restore some of what you have lost. Although sometimes it takes more, depending on how you got the memory loss. Head trauma is the most common cause, though with someone like Logan and his healing powers, I would imagine the injury would have killed any other mutant."
Rogue shook her head. "Can you imagine living through something like that?"
"It has happened, even to ordinary humans." Kendra opened the door to Jean's room where Jean was setting out the snacks she'd promised to get. "Though it's very rare."
Jean nodded. "You ladies want to watch some romance or comedy?"
"Comedy." Rogue voted.
Kendra shrugged. "I'm good either way."
"Comedy it is." Jean put in What About Bob? and sat down next to the other two girls. "Anyone want to paint their nails?"
"Sure, pass the navy blue color."
Jean laughed. "You and your blue, Kendra."
"Good thing my light mutation made my hair my favorite color, huh?"
Rogue giggled and nodded. "Ya got any peach colors, Jean?"
"A girl is never without at least one." Jean handed two types over with a wink.
"I think the one I have is from you." Kendra teased.
Jean laughed. "I snuck some into Ororo's supply too."
Rogue tried not to giggle as she painted her right hand. "My momma always says that good nail polish and friends are the best treasures."
"That's true." Kendra nodded. "I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did without Jean and Ororo."
"Oh I don't know, I think you would have blossomed all the same." Jean said modestly. "But I am glad we became friends. What about you Rogue? Made any other friends while here?"
"I guess Bobby is kind of a friend, but he still says he wants to date me even though I've stated I'm not interested in him that way."
"Boys that age think that resistance means you like them unless you're in a relationship, although sometimes not even then. I think he'll cool off, you're just a new girl who's interesting. Anyone else?"
"Not really anyone else besides you guys, Ororo and Wyn. Most everyone else in my class I socialize with though I don't know if I would call them friends yet. Only time will tell."
Kendra chuckled. "Yeah, the first year is definitely a transition period. I remember thinking of Jean as a nice, untouchable nurse and Ororo as a storm goddess to important to socialize with anyone until I spent time with them. I think by the end of the year, we were definitely friends."
"You mentioned Gambit doesn't come around much, right?"
"Yeah, that's right" Kendra nodded.
"He's back in town, huh?" Jean sipped her water.
"Kendra introduced me to him on the way here. He seems interesting."
Jean chuckled. "Socialize with him and see what happens."
Rogue blushed under her hair. "But I really like Logan. I just wish he was here more."
Kendra shrugged. "Well I guess you should talk to him about how you feel, but that's my two cents on the matter. It's your choice in the long run."
Rogue nodded quietly.
