"The mansion feels so empty now." Rogue looked out the window of Kendra's room.
"It does get pretty quiet during winter break. People go home to visit family or find a good vacation spot." Kendra packed her suitcase. "Aren't you and Logan heading out too?"
Rogue nodded with a smile. "Yeah, something about going up to Canada with our passports. Still not sure if what we have is a romantic relationship."
"Everyone's been there at one point or another, mate."
"I can't imagine you ever second guessing anything."
Kendra laughed softly. "Charles and I were friends for a few years, so I am more comfortable around him than most blokes. You shouldn't be comparing yourself to me when I am a laid back Aussie at heart and you aren't at the point of totally trusting others."
"It's more like I am scared of hurting them. My first boyfriend was in a coma for six months because we kissed."
"You didn't know you had powers then and have been working on controlling them since then. Besides, with Logan's super healing I doubt you could do much damage."
"Funny, he said the same thing."
"Great minds do think alike. He may not have a lot of his past back yet, but he certainly knows his powers. Trust him and yourself."
Rogue surprised her by hugging her tightly. "I don't know what I'm going to do without you, Kendra."
"I am only a phone call away, you know. So are Storm and Jean." She hugged her back. "You take it easy, okay?"
"I will try."
"Good. Now, shouldn't you be packing too?"
"Yeah, I need to get started on that. Hope you have a good trip."
"Ta mate, same to you." Kendra watched her friend leave, then double checked to make sure she had everything she would need before buckling up her old leather suitcase and headed out to the garage.
Charles was waiting at the Mercedes with a smile and similar luggage. "We're a matching pair it would seem."
"Funny, I thought we already were."
He chuckled softly and stole a kiss from her. "Indeed, my dear. Shall we head to the airport?"
"Yes." She climbed in and belted up. She started the car after he did the same. She drove them to the long term parking garage at the airport and displayed their voucher on the dash. She let him help her out of the car and they took their suitcases out of the trunk.
He presented their tickets and visas at the counter and they were waved through without a second glance. "He thinks you're too pretty for me."
She snorted as their hands twined. "Shows what he knows."
"Indeed." He boarded the plane with her and they sat together in first class.
The plane took off and the stewardess came by to give them menus. "Can I get you two anything to drink?"
"What kinds of tea do you offer?"
"Black, green, white and herbal selections."
"What do you think, Kendra dear?"
"Jasmine would be lovely."
He nodded. "Two cups of that, if you have it."
"Right away, sir. In the meantime, feel free to look over the dinner menu."
Kendra glanced down after the stewardess left as the plane took off. "Everything sounds good."
"Agreed. I am considering trying the turkey and avocado panini melt."
"Excellent choice. I keep eyeing the chicken summer salad with raspberry vinaigrette."
He nodded as the stewardess returned with their drinks. "I believe we're ready to order."
"Go ahead."
"I will have the chicken summer salad." Kendra smiled as Charles squeezed her hand.
"And I will have the turkey avocado panini melt."
"Great. That will be out shortly." The stewardess went to take orders from the others in first class with them.
"Were your foster parents disappointed you won't be staying with them?"
Kendra laughed. "No. They got a little cottage after Lynnae and I found our paths in life. It has an extra room for emergencies, but they appreciate the privacy."
"I can understand that. Where is Lynnae these days?"
"Being incredibly famous for finding the base of Yggdrasil."
"Yggdrasil, the cosmos tree?" He shook his head in amazement as she nodded. "Incredible. It has been lost for centuries. How did she find it?"
"She ran into Thor."
"As in Thor the god of lightning?"
"Apparently he showed up to establish a connection with "Midgard" as they call our world before she found the tree. She's trying so hard not to be distracted by the fact he's a god, not to mention her favorite. I keep telling her she should go for it."
"Do you think she will?"
"Hard to say. She seems under the impression that he's unobtainable as a god, though they have preferred mortals according to most of our older stories."
"Any chance he would make the first move?"
"He might. I spoke with him once over Skype when she stepped out to check on the excavation team and he had nothing but good things to say about her."
"As he should."
Kendra laughed and nodded as their food arrived. "Yes. Thank you."
"Thank you." Charles echoed as the stewardess nodded and left. "It smells great."
"Indeed." She smiled and ate with him. "Want to play chess afterwards?"
"That would be nice." He kissed her between bites.
The stewardess cleared away their empty trays when they were finished and announced there would be an in-flight movie of Little Shop Of Horrors would be playing for those who were interested.
He leaned over while everyone was distracted and whispered: "Though I can think of other ways to pass the time."
She chuckled. "They usually frown upon that aboard airlines."
"Usually. Longer flights tend to make the staff look the other way when you sneak off to the same bathroom as your significant other."
"Not a bad idea." She gave him another kiss. "Meet me in a few minutes."
"Deal, darling."
