Here is Chapter 12 of the Perfect One. Will is now working with Coulson's team essentially acting as Coulson's second in command. Working with the team is going to take some getting use to for him and for them as well. They'll come to know that he's not a regular SHIELD agent. They take on some cases including a kidnapped SHIELD asset and a mysterious female thief and while they're all SHIELD agents...they've got some kinks to work out. That'll be fun. Enjoy!

The Perfect One: A new team takes some getting used to.

June 2013: SHIELD 6-1-6 The Bus

The SHIELD modified Boeing C-17 Globemaster 3 airplane AKA the CDX 23215 Airborne Mobile Command Station or the Bus as it was colloquially known by its inhabitants, was currently at its cruising altitude with May piloting as usual. The CDX 23215 Airborne Mobile Command stations were more frequent years ago and could stay in the air longer than any commercial aircraft. They weren't replaced until SHIELD started using the helicarrier. Fury dusted one out of storage, had it completely modified and upgraded and it was now Coulson's. Coulson ran his own operation of SHIELD with his own team, handpicked the missions and they were in charge. But now they had a new team member.

After the whole incident in Peru and Director Fury tearing Coulson a new one for nearly getting the plane taken over, Coulson informed the team that Will was now assigned to them as his second. He was a Level-8 agent but Coulson had the seniority so he still led the team but Will was his number two sort of like how Hill was Fury's number two. He would help them on missions, make calls when Coulson wasn't able to and was essentially another boss. May didn't seem to care and kept her usual stoic demeanor but Fitz, Simmons, Ward, and Skye weren't sure how to react and honestly had more questions. Ward even tried to make a point that Will's sudden assuming of second-in-command was out of character for SHIELD which was a fair point. But it was Fury's order and Will was a Level-8 agent while Ward was only Level-7. Will had the authority so he was on the team.

Suffice to say that it took some getting used to but no incidents and everyone was able to act professionally. Although Ward did point out having Goose on the plane had to be against some kind of protocol but it actually wasn't. So, technically they had a new guest and a pet. Will was walking through the plane with a large suitcase and bag over his shoulder and Goose right next to him. The two made their way through the living quarters before taking the door down to the lower deck where the cargo hold and lab was. They saw Ward getting some training in with a punching bag but instead went into the lab where they saw Fitz and Simmons cleaning the place.

"Agent Detmer, good morning." Simmons smiled.

"Morning." Fitz replied.

"Morning, Dr. Fitz. Morning, Dr. Simmons. And Will is fine as it is. I may be the same level as Coulson but unless this is a mission then Will is just fine." He assured them.

"Well then you can lose the Doctors with the two of us. So, how have things been on the Bus? A bit of an adjustment I imagine?" Simmons wondered.

"A bit but it's been fine. The time zone thing is a little tricky but this place is nicer than some safe houses I've been in. And the kitchen was a smart addition." He replied as Goose jumped up and sat down on a table. "Goose is enjoying himself."

"A very well behaved, Cat." Fitz remarked as Simmons walked over and pet him on the head. Judging by his purrs and how he nuzzled into her hands, he was enjoying himself.

"And handsome as well. I guess pets do take after their owners in some ways." Simmons remarked, unknowingly flirting a bit as she immediately blushed when she realized what she said. Fitz just looked at her weird and Will chuckled.

"Well, thank you Jemma. If it's ok with the two of you, I was hoping to use your lab. I wanted to do some maintenance on my equipment before our next mission." Will told them.

"Of course, our lab is your lab. And if you require any assistance than Fitz is more than happy to help." Simmons volunteered for him.

"Happy to help." Fitz muttered.

"Thanks, but it's just some gun maintenance." Will put the suitcase and bag on the table. He opened them so they could see the small armory he carried with them. Various pistols, rifles, machine guns and such with assorted ammo and even some explosives.

"Good lord." Simmons muttered.

"Got to be prepared for every situation." He commented, sitting down and unholstering his HK pistol which he began to take apart to clean. He removed the compensator, ejected the magazine, and pulled the slide back to remove the bullet in the chamber before he took it part in a few quick moves and laid out the pieces on the table. Afterward, he began to clean it of dust and rust before he oiled the parts and put it back together. Fitz and Simmons went back to their work with Simmons sparing a few glances at him every now and then much to Fitz's jealously. Goose saw Will was just cleaning his guns so he walked over and sat down next to the two scientists where he was immediately spoiled by Simmons.

Ward kept at his training, punching the heavy bag when Skye walked down in some workout clothes and her hands wrapped up in boxing tape. "You know you're late."

"I'm tired from the morning's workout. I thought I was joining SHIELD, not 24-hour fitness." Skye pointed out.

"It's called relative strength training, starting with the basics. And next time, you do fifteen push-ups for every minute you're late." Ward told her as he tightened the tape around her hands.

"Fine, Mr. Fun Machine. Better than pull-ups. I don't ever want to do another pull-up again." Skye told him.

"You find yourself hanging off the edge of a building twenty stories up, you're gonna want to do at least one. Stand here. Jab cross, like this." Ward showed her what to do on the bag. "Ten minutes."

Skye started doing it but she was still a beginner so her form and her mentality left something to be desired. "You know the hardest part about boxing?"

"Getting punched in the face?" Skye asked.

"Keeping your hands up." Ward informed her.

"Why do I even have to do this? I'm sure Fitz-Simmons' supervising officer didn't make them do this muscle stuff." She pointed out.

"You said you wanted to be a field agent, like Coulson. But if you'd like to switch disciplines…Hey, Simmons. What did your S.O. give you guys for morning drills?" Ward wondered.

"Oh, Atomistic attribute drills." Simmons replied with a smile on her face. "Yeah, we'd name the mechanical, chemical, thermal—"

"Electrical properties of materials." Fitz added.

"Ok, ok. They made your point." Skye moaned in annoyance.

"If it's between that and boxing I'd personally stick with boxing." Will pointed out, cleaning his modified SR-25 Sniper rifle.

"Will, what were your S.O.'s morning drills?" Skye wondered, prolonging her training with the little conversation.

"My training before I was an agent was a little different and more…hands-on. Training to be a field agent or specialist is one thing but a Special Operations, Tactics, and Defense specialist is more complicated." He replied, blowing off some dust. "And that's all I'm at liberty to say. Get back to it."

Skye groaned in annoyance as Ward grabbed the heavy bag and she kept punching it. "There will come a moment when you have to commit to this or bail. Every field agent has a defining moment. Ask Coulson. You have to make the hard call. To either dedicate yourself to this or to curl up in a ball and run." Ward informed her.

"How can you run if you're curled up in a ball?" Skye pointed out.

"It's my job as your S.O. to make sure you don't die before then." Ward fixed her hands before ushering her to continue.

"So, what was yours, Agent Ward?" Skye questioned.

"10 minutes."

"Your defining moment? Come on, tell me. I want to know. I could get Coulson to give you some of that truth serum. You could spill your little heart out to me again." She joked.

"You mean my level-one overshare that miraculously got you to cooperate? I hate to tell you this, rookie, but we don't have a truth serum." Ward told her when they heard the plane's intercom ping.

"Changing course. Briefing in three. SHIELD 6-1-6 with new orders. Set for Colorado airfield north."

"Ah, looks like we're on the move." Fitz said as he and Simmons put their lab coats away. Will left his guns there for the moment but put his pistol back in his thigh holster before following them up with Goose right behind him. Ward followed soon and Skye did as well before she punched the bag one last time.

The team gathered in the living area as Coulson walked over with a data pad. "A few minutes ago, a SHIELD transport was attacked while carrying a priority red protected asset off route 76 near Sterling. The asset was Canadian physicist Dr. Franklin Hall, known for his work—"

"Oh, no. Not Frank."

"Dr. Hall? He was our chemical kinetics advisor our second year." Fitz said.

"Yeah, he's so enthusiastic about science, we just adored him. We can rescue him, can't we?" Simmons questioned.

"He's one of ours. We're gonna try." Coulson answered.

"The attackers?" Will wondered.

"Invisible." Coulson replied.

"Wait, Invisible? That is so cool." Skye smiled but saw the looks she was getting from the others. "But terrible."

Colorado, Route 76

The Bus parked at the airfield where they took cars to the highway and saw the preliminary SHIELD teams doing CSU and security already had the site secured. "Dr. Hall was an asset?" Skye asked for clarification.

"A few select scientists and engineers that SHIELD protects. These kinds of people tend to have knowledge or skills that make them prime targets for abduction by our enemies. Think Dr. Banner. Even without the Hulk, his intelligence would make him a valuable target for a lot of bad people." Will explained. "Some are able to live normal lives but have various SHIELD agents working in intervals to look after them. Others who are more sensitive are kept hidden and on the move."

"Which is why Fitz and I were so lucky to have him." Simmons added.

"And what does priority red mean?" Skye questioned.

"It means that security should have been…" Coulson and the others stopped as they saw a SHIELD SUV stuck in a tree. "…Heavy."

Simmons and Fitz looked over the accident area with their tools while Ward and Skye looked for clues. Will, Coulson, and May talked with the driver of the truck about what happened. "It was pretty damn scary, and I don't spook easily, boss."

"Nothing in the air? From above?" May asked and he shook his head no.

"Nothing over our shoulder but what's scary is they knew our route. They were waiting for us." The driver told them.

"Are you saying they were working with somebody inside SHIELD?" Coulson asked for clarification.

"Sorry to say, had to be."

Will motioned to Coulson and the two walked away a bit to speak in private. May looked at the two speaking in private before she walked away and did something else. "I read his mind and he wasn't lying. And from what I was able to see he was telling the truth. This attack, it wasn't just a random group of guys doing this for money. It was planned and professional." He told him and Coulson nodded.

"I agree. And given how quick they were in and out of the area then his suggestion that there could be a mole in SHIELD seems credible. But how?" Coulson wondered.

"I don't know. I can think of only a dozen people who could pull something like this off but given how that car was thrown into a tree the list got shorter." Will replied.

"You don't think Magneto did this, do you?" Coulson asked and Will shrugged.

"A plausible idea but what's the motive? Dr. Hall wasn't a geneticist or a mutant hater so there's no reason for Magneto to take him. That and other than some serious injuries no one was killed so it wasn't to attack SHIELD. They wanted Dr. Hall which means he's important in their plan." Will suggested and Coulson agreed with his thought process.

"Fitz, what am I seeing here?" Simmons asked him, getting some unusual readings near the front of the truck.

"Well, I'm not wearing the full-spectrum goggles I designed, so no clue." Fitz replied as everyone walked over to her. "Let me have a look. Come on."

"No, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Simmons stopped him dead in his tracks before she picked up some dirt and gravel off the ground and tossed it in the air. To everyone's amazement, it began swirling around in front of them like it was caught in a wind funnel.

"What the hell?" Skye muttered.

"I think the electro-static field scanner activated some…thing." Simmons suggested when some of the gravel pebbles flew around very quickly causing them to duck.

"Ok, can we deactivate? Now?" Coulson asked her as she tried but the weird windstorm just became erratic.

"You have to adjust the density!"

"I tried, Fitz!"

Fitz grabbed the electro-static field scanner and tried to deactivate it as more pebbles were shot out like bullets. "Fitz!" May shouted when the scanner short-circuited and the pebble storm stopped suddenly.

Simmons knelt down and found what caused the weird little occurrence. It was some circular containment device for a liquid-like substance. The device was small, about the size of a quarter and none of them had ever seen anything like it. "That did all this." Simmons said as Coulson picked it up.

"What is that?" Skye asked.

"Something big." Coulson replied.

SHIELD 6-1-6

The team returned to the Bus and began running an analysis on the strange device they found at the kidnapping site. Fitz put it in a hyper-spectrum analysis scanner and Simmons was helping him with the others watching them work.

"Either someone cracked our comm system or Dr. Hall's movements were leaked from inside SHIELD." Coulson stated.

"You really think we have a mole?" May asked him.

"I think you should go through the communications logs, rule it out. We'll work the tractor tread that we found on the scene." Coulson told her.

"I can do that instead of pull-ups. I can upload an image of the tread pattern, check to see if there's any sort of match." Skye volunteered while May left to get the communication logs just as Ward walked back in.

"Already done. Matched it a 2010 model. Found a list of purchases within a 500-mile radius, narrowed it down to those with priors, financial troubles, or propensity for risk-taking. Three suspects." Ward told Coulson and Will.

"Who probably sold their construction equipment to the kidnappers. Let's go ask some questions." Will said as Ward left to get the car ready. Before Will and Coulson left, Skye walked up to them.

"Hey, so, Ward said a funny thing. He said that you guys don't have a truth serum." She said, unamused that she was tricked.

"Did he? Ward said that?" Coulson wondered.

"Yeah."

"You guys did the level-one overshare trick? Ha! Classic." Will chuckled as he and Coulson left just as May returned with a large binder and handed it to Skye.

"Do you want me to bench press this?" Skye questioned.

"Read it. Every communication out of HQ since they decided to transfer Dr. Hall." May told her before leaving to the cockpit.

"Hang in there, doc. It's gonna be a while." Skye muttered, realizing this simple task was going to be long.

Barnroof Point, Colorado

A quick drive and Coulson arrived at a secluded Colorado farm/land where the prime suspect for the tractor owner had arrived and was hiding out which always looked guilty. Coulson stood next to Lola at the edge of the land as the owner rode over on his horse, looking like a stereotypical cowboy.

"Excuse me."

"Who the hell are you?" The man asked Coulson.

"A concerned citizen who happens to be a member of a giant bureaucratic organization that's tracking your every move." Coulson introduced himself.

"I haven't done anything wrong."

"Of course not, but you sold your excavator to some people who did and you're hiding out here until things cool down because you know it. I just want to know who paid you." Coulson said only for the guy to pull out his double-barrel shotgun and aim it at his head.

"They paid me enough not to answer any questions like that."

[Gun-click] Will stepped out from behind a tree to the man's left and aimed his pistol right at his head. "That's a poor life choice."

The man moved his shotgun towards Will only for Ward to pull him off his horse and slam him on the ground. He took the man's shotgun and aimed it at him as Will and Coulson walked over. "Feels like the old west." Ward commented.

"They gave me money for my equipment. That's all. I never saw a face and I never heard a name." The man told them.

"And how did you receive this money? They write you a check?" Coulson asked him so he pointed to the saddlebags on his horse. Will opened it and was mildly surprised at what he saw as he pulled out a bar of gold. "They paid you in gold?"

"Now it really feels like the old west." Ward added.

SHIELD 6-1-6

Will, Coulson, and Ward returned to the Bus and gave the gold bars to Simmons who began an analysis. Fitz was still working on the small device they found but whatever it was it was surely unique.

"It looks like this because it's a Dore bar." Simmons explained, scanning one of the bars and getting some much needed information. "It means it was made at the mine rather than in a refinery. It's only about 92% pure. The cowboy got cheated a bit."

"Can you determine the mine based on the impurities?" Coulson wondered.

"Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. We've done that already. It's from the Dacey mine in Tanzania, which is owned by—"

"Quinn worldwide. Great, this asshole." Will muttered. "Coulson, you think headquarters will care if Ian Quinn happens to have an…accident that he doesn't walk away from after this?"

"Care? Probably not. Be a massive headache that Fury will likely demote you for? Maybe." Coulson told him.

"Eh, might be worth the risk." He shrugged.

"I'll go update HQ and have May set course to Malta. This just got complicated." Coulson stated.

"Complicated is every day of our lives." Will pointed out just as Coulson left the lab and Skye returned from the bathroom. "Hey."

"Hey. Coulson ok?" Skye wondered.

"He's fine. Just things got a tiny bit complicated. Turns out the person who kidnapped Dr. Hall is none other than billionaire douchebag, Ian Quinn. He's the poor man's Elon Musk with triple the ego, zero morals, and not nearly as smart." Will stated.

"You don't like him very much, do you?" Simmons pointed out.

"No, I don't. He's hurt a lot of people and he while he preaches morality and freedom of information, he's nothing more than an opportunist who cares about money and doing whatever the hell he wants." He answered.

"Not to question you, Will but he's a good guy. His charity endowment is like $8 billion." Skye told him.

"Which he gets from leeching the planet of its resources, stealing information, ruining other companies and violating every single regulation and law put in place to keep people safe. If anything, he only cares about tax breaks and benefits for himself due to his charity. Plus, Quinn and his company were a huge donor and supporter to AIM and we all know how horrible they were. The only reason he's not sitting in a cell right now is because he stays in non-extradition countries so the US and SHIELD can't arrest him." Will informed her. "The world's more complicated than you think, Skye and it's only going to get weirder. Fitz, anything on the device?"

"Yeah, and boy is it incredible." Fitz brought up a digital scan of the device and the element in the middle that had the amorphous state. "The device itself is very unique but the element is what's astonishing. Gravitonium. It's an extremely rare high-atomic numbered element that powers the device."

"It's so extremely rare that most people didn't believe it existed, must less the theory that an isolated positive charge—"

"Would turn the flow from isotropic—"

"Guys, high school dropout here." Skye told them. "How does the device work?"

"Well, Gravitonium distorts gravity fields within itself, causing an undulating, amorphous shape." Simmons started.

"Which causes these, um…wiggly bits here, but when an electric current is applied, the Gravitonium solidifies. And those gravity fields erupt, randomly changing the rules of gravity around it." Fitz explained, using his hands to aid in some parts of the explanation. "Well, so now you can imagine what would happen to a big rig at a one hundred kilometers per hour. Or, uh well you could just remember because we saw it already, didn't we? "

"And guess which genius published every theory about Gravitonium and possible applications years ago?" Simmons asked them.

"Dr. Franklin Hall." Will and Skye answered.

"Correct. And Dr. Hall attended the University of Cambridge at the same time as Ian Quinn." Fitz added.

"There's our connection. Quinn probably needs Hall to make more of these Gravitonium devices." Will theorized.

"Meeting in ten minutes." May announced.

"Let's go plan a rescue." Will said, leading them up to the touch table at the command center to plan their next move. The team gathered around the touch table and began to plan out the rescue plan for Dr. Hall but with Ian Quinn being the kidnapper it made things a little more complicated. Even more so when they saw the layout of Quinn's base of operations and what was going on there today but Coulson was adamant on doing this.

"The man's a prisoner and it's up to use to get him out." Coulson said.

"Sir, we've checked the specs. There's no way into Quinn's compound without a large SHIELD strike force or a man inside. He's got neodymium laser fencing surrounding the property." Ward explained.

"They'll never allow a strike force into Malta. Plus, this weekend, Quinn Worldwide has its annual shareholders gathering. We'd risk global outrage." Coulson added.

"So, we do this just us. If something goes wrong, SHIELD can disavow and claim ignorance to save face." Will stated, finding that to be the only way to do this without other help from SHIELD.

"Without a man inside, it's impossible, unless you're immune to pulse laser emissions." May pointed out as Coulson looked at Will who shook his head no. While he could easily get through the fence and handle everything, it would cause too much chaos and risk making things worse. This needed to be done with stealth and subterfuge.

"If we had a monkey, we could get in." Fitz stated.

"A monkey?" Will was confused.

"Don't ask." Simmons told him.

"If we had a small monkey he could slip through the sensors and disable the fence's power source with his adorable little hands." Fitz suggested.

"I could go in." Skye said, her eyes on her phone as she was busy doing something.

"Drop me in the hills outside of Valletta. I'll spend a few weeks, establish a cover, gathering intel—" "Hall doesn't have a few weeks." Coulson stopped Ward's plan there.

"And to restate, any agent of SHIELD caught on Maltese soil can be shot to death with bullets—legally." Simmons reminded everyone.

"Thanks for the reminder." Will told her.

"Not me. I could go in." Skye stated.

"Skye, this is serious." Ward reminded her.

"Wait. What are you saying?" Coulson asked her.

"Well, I'm not an agent of SHIELD, so I can go in without breaking all these stupid rules." Skye pointed out.

"International Laws." Simmons corrected her.

"This isn't something the Rising Tide can hack, Skye." Ward told her.

"Did you hear the laser part. Without a brave monkey—"

"You said you could go in with a man inside." Skye reminded them.

"And you want to be that man?" May asked her.

"Fitz-Simmons loved the guy, and he needs help. They could be torturing him, or worse, making him do strength-training." Skye muttered.

"But you don't have the background or clearance or experience with any of this." Ward listed off.

"I know. But I've got an invitation." Skye held up her phone to show them the invite she got to the party. "Well, technically it's an E-vite."

"I'm convinced." Will commented.

With some semblance of a plan the team began to iron out the rest of the details. Coulson went to his office to get some things and Ward followed him to discuss his apprehensions for Skye's plan and her involvement. "I understand your concern, but we don't have a lot of options." Coulson told Ward as he was looking through his closet for a suit.

"Hey, I'm impressed. She just wrangled an invitation on her phone using insider back-channel voodoo in minutes. But sending her in with no training, you're taking a huge risk." Ward stated. "I know Director Fury felt he owed you after you sacrificed yourself."

"And my card collection." Coulson added.

"He gave you some autonomy, but Skye on a covert op?" Ward asked him.

"Are you worried about her safety or her loyalty?" Coulson wondered.

"Both. The Rising Tide is the reason she got an invite. Who knows how many protocols she violated?"

"That's her job—ignore protocol, find connections and back doors that nobody else can see. Something else is bothering you." Coulson pointed out.

Ward paced around a bit before letting out a sigh or frustration. "She's holding back, sir. She says she wants to be an agent, but she won't commit. She doesn't listen, makes jokes."

"Were you hard on her?" Coulson wondered.

"Sure. I tried playing nice, too. I need a new strategy."

"Try no strategy. Stop thinking like an operative, start thinking like a person. Maybe Skye will let that person help her." Coulson suggested.

"Help her what?"

"Help her think like an operative." Coulson told him. Ward nodded and walked out of Coulson's office before heading down to the cargo area to give Skye some last-minute training.

"You haven't lost your touch." Coulson heard as Will shimmered into view. He was leaning against the wall in Coulson's office and was actually there the entire time but Ward didn't see him. Will's mental abilities weren't just destructive but pretty good for stealth as well. He tricked Ward's mind and eyes into not seeing him and so long as he didn't say anything or touch him then he would have no idea he was there. It came in handy but really only worked on people since you couldn't mind trick a video camera.

"And you've gotten stronger." Coulson pointed out. "Some nifty new abilities?"

"Technically just improving the ones I already have with some unique twists. I kind of like it. Now you see me…" Will disappear from view again. "…now you don't."

"Impressive. Puts new meaning to the phrase hiding in plain sight." Coulson remarked as Will reappeared. "Tricking a human mind is one thing but not that useful against security cameras."

"Fair point which is why I have my gun." Will commented. "Skye's got some courage to do this. I say this…she's not at all like I was expecting."

"Skye has her surprises. What do you think of the situation?" Coulson asked him.

"It's not ideal but given the limitations and the international backlash we'd get if I went in with the Avengers then this is the best of the worst-case scenarios. I could do this myself without the team but then subtly would probably go out the window and the rest of the team would wonder how I do the impossible." Will pointed out and Coulson agreed. "It's a solid plan and Skye's brave to do this but as you probably know she's hiding something."

"Yeah, I figured." Coulson replied. "Have you read her mind yet?"

"You know I don't like to do that unless for a mission or it's a necessity and it hasn't proven itself to be." Will reminded him and Coulson nodded. "I don't need my telepathy to know that Skye is hiding something. She's got her secrets and it likely has to do with her Rising Tide connections so I'll keep my eye on her along with any chatter from that network."

"It's not like you to worry like this." Coulson pointed out only for Will to shrug.

"True but Fury also has me watching over you and I'm kind of enjoying it." He smirked only for Coulson to give him a look. "Anyway, me keeping an eye on her starts now. I'll be going with her as her plus one to Quinn's mansion."

Coulson thought that over and it sounded like a promising idea. "That could work and your Oliver Queen alias skirts the line just enough for it be plausible along with the billionaire playboy angle you added. Think you can mind trick the guard at the door?"

"That I can do with subtly." Will promised.

After Ward walked Skye through a basic firearm disarm and got her as ready as she could be, Coulson assembled the team just as they were arrived near Malta's airspace. "Skye will walk in the front door. The only external access point to Quinn's underground facility is from a beach cove. A two-man extraction team could slip in there, but it won't be easy. Fitz-Simmons."

"The perimeter is surrounded by a 20-foot-high neodymium laser grid. Touch it and you're toast." Fitz explained.

"Dead toast. The only way to disable the grid is to crack the system and trigger a reboot. This would give the team three seconds to cross. Of course, Quinn's too smart to allow any wireless access on his property." Coulson added.

"That's where I come in." Skye stated.

"Yes." Simmons took a small makeup compact from a case. "Working compact—holds up under X-ray."

"Desert Rose to match your complexion but—oh, what's this? A readout, okay? Turns green if you're in close enough proximity to a computer to gain wireless access." Fitz added.

"When it does, you just drop this nearby and walk out. We'll do the rest. Easy as pie." Simmons told her.

"Or it will be if you stick to the plan." Ward told her.

"Got it. Plan, green, drop, walk…pie." Skye repeated.

"But luckily you won't be without some help." Coulson told her. "Will is going to be with you at the party as your plus one. He'll be your date."

"Lucky you." Will smirked.

"Lucky me." Skye smiled.

"Sir, that's a terrible idea." Ward pointed out. "Quinn's guards will check everyone who arrives so he can't just show up as a plus one and make it inside."

"Lucky for us Will has something that will aid in the infiltration." Coulson informed him.

"I have an alias I've used on a lot of undercover operations like this. Oliver Queen: Billionaire playboy who dabbles in the not-so legal part of the world to fund his globetrotting adventures. Solid background information and credible credentials if they looked me up and showing up as a plus one to a party of a rich billionaire on an island with a girl on my arm is exactly what he would do." Will explained. "I've used this alias plenty of times and have gotten solid intel. It was with my alias that SHIELD managed to get the first whispers of AIMs true intentions."

"Will is going to be with you at the party. Fitz, can you rig up a similar set up for Will to enable access?" Coulson asked Fitz.

"Sure, sir. Give me thirty minutes." Fitz replied.

"And what if the guard doesn't let you in?" Ward pointed out.

"Trust me he will. As Oliver Queen, I can charm a nun into buying birth control." Will remarked. "Apologies for the metaphor."

"If anyone can get in with Skye it'll be Will. Get ready you two." Coulson told them and Will nodded.

"All right, Skye. Let's see how good you are." Will remarked as Ward walked over to Coulson.

"Sir, this still seems like a risk." Ward told Coulson.

"Don't worry, Ward. I can handle myself and make sure Skye stays safe but your concern is appreciated." Will joked earning a chuckle from Skye.

"He can handle this, Agent Ward." Coulson told him when May walked over.

"I don't want to question your orders, sir."

"Good." Coulson replied and nodded but May stuck with him.

"But I've already seen far more combat than I bargained for. This two-man extraction team? With Agent Detmer going in with Skye, it's exactly the kind of action I was hoping to avoid." She told him.

"That's why you're not on it." Coulson informed her.

"Specialist work is different from field work, believe me. When was the last time you—"

"Hall's one of ours and he's in trouble. I need two men to get him out. Ward makes one so that's why I'm going in. You forget—I saw plenty of action with the Avengers." Coulson reminded her.

"And you died." May pointed out.

"All right, team. Suit up." Coulson told everyone.

Republic of Malta

Will and Skye arrived at Ian Quinn's mansion in a taxi while the other people who arrived had private cars or limos take them. Again, those people were bad people who also profited on Ian Quinn's horrible business practices. It was a simple in-and-out mission. Get in, find a wireless signal to disable the perimeter fence so Coulson and Ward could get in, they get Dr. Hall out and everyone goes home happy. Will got out of the taxi wearing a classic textured gray cotton-blend sports jacket and pants with a black button-down shirt and helped Skye who was wearing a nice pink dress, silver bracelet and holding her purse.

"Nervous?" Will asked her.

"No, I'm fine." Skye assured him.

"It's ok to be nervous. I was too on my first undercover mission." Will told her. "You know the trick to this? Just imagine yourself as a rich snobby elite…and own it."

"Really?"

"Oh, yeah. Trick to fooling idiots like at this party is to be just as stuck up, rude, entitled, and arrogant as they are and you'll fit right in. Walk like you own a yacht and your part of the club." Will suggested before holding out his arm. "Shall we?"

"Let's do this." Skye hooked her arm with his and the two walked to the entrance where two guards were checking invitations and IDs.

"Invitations?" The guard asked Skye and Will.

"Here. It's under Skye." She showed them the E-vite on her phone.

"And you sir?" The guard asked Will.

"I'm her plus one. Oliver Queen, at your service." Will handed them his business card and passport. "Skye was telling me about this event she got in to and it seems like a place to do good business."

The guard looked over everything and saw the hundred-dollar bill nudged inside the passport as incentive. Normally that wouldn't have worked and Will didn't think it would so he also used his telepathy to mind trick the two guards into letting him in and taking the bribe. It was subtle as Will's eyes glowed a faint blue that no one noticed. The guard subtly took the money and handed Will his passport back.

"Welcome to the party, Mr. Queen. Ms. Skye. Enjoy your time." He told them.

"We hope to. Shall we?" Will asked Skye as the two walked in while the next couple were checked at the door. "We're in."

"How the hell did you get in?" Ward asked over the comm system. He was with Coulson approaching the beach and did not think Will would be able to get in at all.

"I did tell you I could smooth talk my way in but money helps." Will replied as he and Skye made their way to the backyard where the reception was being held. Waiters and Waitresses served appetizers and drinks while all of the Quinn Worldwide shareholders and their guests mingled with one another. They were probably comparing bank statements and talking about the private yachts or islands they owned while avoiding all the tax restrictions that allowed them to flourish.

Will and Skye took some champagne on a serving tray and acted like they belonged there. Blending in as Skye took a Hors D'oeuvre when someone walked up to them. "Who are you?"

They turned and saw an elderly middle eastern man walk over shortly followed by his assistant. "Oh, apologies for his manners. He knows very little English."

"Oh, that's, uh, that's—what-whatever. Skye." She held her hand out for him to shake.

"Oliver Queen." Will shook his hand as well.

"Qasim Zaghlul." The man introduced himself.

"Big fan. You built half of Dubai, including the Arabian Blade. I love that building. It's super sci-fi. Where's your wife—"

"Wife's name is Nadrah." May told her over the comms.

"Nadrah?"

"Twin sons."

"She staying at home with the boys. That's so sweet. You're a lucky man." Skye told him.

"Thank you very much. You are a lucky man. She is very nice." Qasim said to Oliver.

"That she is. Pleasure to meet you." Will replied as the two continued walking through the party.

"I can get used to this guys. It's like Siri if it worked." Skye said.

"I'm glad you're enjoying yourself but don't let Qasim's smile and old man charm fool you. You just had an enjoyable conversation with one of the world's premiere human traffickers." Will told her, taking a sip of champagne.

"You're kidding." Skye said to him.

"May, tell her." Will said.

May, Simmons, and Fitz checked SHIELD's database and Qasim Zaghlul was in fact a well-known human trafficker whose connections to the business and political sector made him a difficult target to arrest but his operation wasn't as profitable as it used to be due to the release of digital documents that encompassed various high profile human trafficking operations including political and corporate connections. The release of those documents was by SHIELD and the person responsible for getting those documents was Will himself back before he was even made an agent.

"He's right. He was the one who managed to get the information to let the UN and Interpol take a lot of them down." May explained.

"It says here it was done before you were officially made an agent. How does that work?" Simmons wondered.

"I was still training to be an agent when an unfortunate trip my cousin took ended badly. She's fine but I did cause some headaches. And while Qasim's not in a jail cell it doesn't mean he's any less guilty. The Sheikh who bought my cousin…it was his brother." Will answered.

"Oh my god." Fitz muttered.

"Yeah, and I put a bullet through his skull." Will stated as Skye looked at him. "Don't let appearances fool you, Skye. Pretty much every single person here who works with Quinn is either just as bad or worse."

"Your cousin…is that the moment that made you dedicate to SHIELD?" Skye wondered.

"It was one of them. I can do a lot of good and help a lot more people with SHIELD than I could do before. And for those I can't help…I can at least make sure that the bad guys have a really bad day." He answered when he saw Quinn arrive talking to a small group of people. "We have eyes on Quinn."

"All right, I'm going in." Skye sipped her champagne and walked over while Will walked to the bar. To minimize anything going wrong, just having Skye greet Quinn made the most sense. And given that she managed to get an invitation by hacking into his systems, she was someone he wanted to talk to. With Skye's earpiece they were able to listen in on the conversation and Quinn allowed her into the party because he did want to talk to her but not just that. He was recruiting and wanted Skye to work for him. This did raise a bit of a red flag as Skye was still an unknown so her potentially say yet was a possibility. It was honestly going to be a coinflip if she did.

Will tapped his ear comm twice so Skye was disconnected for the moment. "May, keep an eye on her."

"Roger that."

Will tapped his ear comm twice again and reconnected to Skye just as Ian Quinn went up to a podium to begin his presentation. "Good afternoon, everyone. Many of you shareholders have been with us for years, and I see a few new names here but I want to thank you all for traveling so far to this beautiful country, and, well, for slumming it at Shaba Tal-Banar. This country where we are allowed to pursue progress and profit without the stranglehold of regulations that are now choking our world. The United States Government, the E.U, the DRTC, SHIELD—these are just a few of the institutions that are guilty of halting the development of new technology for anyone—except themselves. We dare defy them with a new idea, they steal in and sweep it out from under us. But not today. You're all aware of what Quinn worldwide has been able to do with basic minerals let alone uranium or Plutonium, despite these unjust restrictions that weight the scales in the other guy's favor. Well, today, I'm announcing something new—"

"I think I've heard enough of his sales pitch." Will remarked. "Skye, slowly head back to the mansion. I'm heading there as well."

"Gotcha." She replied, slowly walking through the crowd to the house and looking like she had to find a bathroom.

The two regrouped near door to the backyard and walked inside. Will flipped open the face of the fake Rolex he was wearing which was the same readout scanner Fitz and Simmons made Skye. The scanner was still reading red which meant they needed to find that uplink quickly. "All right, let's split up. You head right and I'll go left. If you get caught just improvise. I'll head over."

Skye nodded and the two split up to cover more ground and get this over quickly. The longer the two were there the better change they had at getting discovered. Will moved through the halls of Quinn's large mansion which were empty since everyone was outside for the party and presentation. Most of Quinn's guards were outside as well minus the occasional one roaming the halls as a security measure. Which is the situation Will nearly found himself in as he hugged the wall since there was a guard around the corner checking for any intruders or guests walking around places they shouldn't be. He ruffled his hair a bit and undid a few buttons of his shirt before walking out into view with a plan.

"Hello? Babe?" Will called out when he saw the guard and the guard saw him. "Hey, man? Have you by any chance seen a smoking hot brunette in a pink dress? We were having fun but I lost track of her."

"Sorry, sir I haven't. She's likely with everyone else outside. I'll escort you outside." The guard said as Will stumbled a bit to mock like he was inebriated.

"Thanks. You're a good man…I want to say you look like a Jeffrey." Will snickered a bit before he combed his hair back and stumbled forward with the guard helping him keep his balance. "You know…if you're looking for a job then I could use a good man like you. I'll pay you a lot of money."

"Thanks for the offer sir but I already have a job." The guard replied being surprisingly patient with Will who kept up his drunk billionaire persona.

"Oh, too bad. I could have used a good guy like you, Jeffrey." Will hiccupped a bit and accidently tripped so he fell face first on the ground. "Oh, that hurt."

"Sir are you, all right?" The guard gently shook his shoulder and helped him back up. Will managed to get to his knees where he quickly punched the guard in the stomach. The punch was powerful and placed well enough that the guard couldn't breathe for a few seconds before Will put him in a guillotine choke. After half a minute, the guard stopped struggling and passed out from the restriction to his airway and lack of oxygen. Will moved his body to a nearby room and even though it was locked, he just forced it open and put the guard down before taking his Glock 17 and putting it behind his back. After a quick mind wipe of the guard, he continued moving through the mansion but his readout was still in the red.

"I'm not getting anything. Fitz-Simmons, how's Skye doing?" He asked.

"Her commlink is down and she was with Quinn before it dropped. Either he found it or—"

"Or she dumped it. What was her last location?" Will asked.

"Southeast corner." May answered.

"I'm on my way." He made his way to the other side of the mansion before tapping his ear comm to contact Coulson. "Coulson, give me an update? How's it going on your end?"

"We're made it to the fence but the laser grid is still up." Coulson answered.

"Next patrol is any minute now." Ward added.

"Skye's offline. Repeat, we've lost audio and vitals." May told them.

"I'm on my way to get Skye but I still haven't found a wireless access point. Give me sixty seconds." Will answered, making his way to Skye either to rescue her or arrest her.

"We're in!" May told them.

"She's done it!" Simmons shouted.

"Fitz, you're up."

"Oh, mother of all things. Move, move, move!" Fitz quickly got to work on resetting the system.

"We've got a problem out here, Fitz!" Coulson told him as he and Ward had taken out a Malta Army patrol and were under fire.

"Got it! System rebooting in two, one, now!"

Ward and Coulson made it through just in time before the laser grid reactivated. The two made their way to the mansion where Coulson would get Dr. Hall and Ward would keep their exit secured.

Will hugged the wall as he arrived at Quinn's office and saw three guards and Quinn himself holding Skye at gunpoint. He holstered the gun behind his back and slowly walked in when the entire building began to shake.

"Tell me what they're doing!" Quinn shouted. "You have no choice. You're expendable to SHIELD. They sent you in here with nothing."

Skye grabbed his wrist, wrestled the gun out of his hand and pointed it at him. "They taught me a few things."

"Kid's got balls." One of the guards said.

"Thanks, but…yuck." Skye muttered.

"But do you have what it takes to pull the trigger?" Quinn asked her.

"Nope…which is why I came with a plus one." Skye told him.

Quinn heard some thuds and grunts of pain behind him so he quickly turned only to get punched across the face and knocked out. Will had taken out Quinn's three bodyguards and then Quinn himself without much fuss at all. "Nicely done with the disarm." Will told her.

"Ward taught me." Skye replied before dropping the gun. That's when the entire place shook so violently that she fell down. That's when she saw two pens that had fallen to the floor had stayed upright a bit and moved around. "Looks like the Gravitonium is about to bring this place down."

"We need to go. Come on." Will helped her to her feet and the two left Quinn's office but not before he quickly erased Quinn's memory of him being there. "I've got Skye. Where's Coulson?"

"He's in the basement lab with Dr. Hall. Hall leaked his whereabouts to Quinn and powered up the Gravitonium to destroy the place." May answered.

"How big is the Gravitonium generator?" Will asked her.

"12 feet at least." Fitz told him.

"If that thing is as powerful as we think it is, it won't just bring down the mansion it'll tear the island in half. Ward, meet us at the basement! We've got to get Coulson!" Will radioed in.

"I'm on my way." Ward replied.

Will and Skye rushed through the mansion and then outside through the backyard where the mansion staff and Quinn Worldwide shareholders were scrambling about and panicking like chickens when a coyote or wolf shows up. They race across the backyard when three guards show up the same time Ward did. Ward punched one guard in the face, kicked out his left leg, kneed him in the gut and then landed a left cross across the face while Will kicked the second guard back and parried a baton strike from the third. He then disarmed the guard, kneed him in the groin, put him in a guillotine choke before snapping his neck and tossing his body into the water. Ward blocked a punch from the second guard and punched him in the chest before throwing out an elbow to the side of the head as Will kicked out his leg so he fell to a knee before he grabbed his head and kneed him in the back of the neck which either knocked him out or killed him.

"Whoa…" Skye muttered.

"Let's move." Will led Skye and Ward through the grounds of the mansion until they arrived at the separate pool house in the backyard which is where the entrance to the unground lab was. The second they headed downstairs is when gravity began to get weird as they suddenly found themselves standing on the walls.

"What the hell is going on?" Ward asked.

"It's the Gravitonium. We need to find Coulson." Will led them to the lab where they saw Coulson holding Dr. Hall at gunpoint. Like them they were on the side of the room and Coulson was trying to get Dr. Hall to stop the Gravitonium reaction but he wouldn't.

"I am doing the right thing—a completely selfless act. I know that history never celebrates what didn't happen. They'll call this a-a tragedy. They won't understand the good I did here." Hall told Coulson as Will took out the Glock 17 and tried to force open the door but it was locked tight and the force of gravity the Gravitonium was releasing seemed to seal the room shut.

"Killing innocent people?" Coulson asked Hall.

"Saving millions. We have to live with the choices we make, but sometimes we have to die with them, too." Hall stated, completely steadfast in his decision to let the Gravitonium go off. Whatever belief he had in his mind…he was sticking to it. Will raised his gun up to the window in the door and was ready to shoot through it and hit Hall if he needed to but Coulson shook his head.

"I understand. You made a hard call." Coulson said.

"Yes."

"And now I have to make mine." Coulson fired three bullets at the ground which was actually the safety glass to the Gravitonium generator room. Hall fell through while Coulson grabbed onto a cable to keep himself from falling. Hall fell into the generator room and was dropped right into the glob of Gravitonium where it quickly swallowed him whole despite his struggle. Once he was swallowed whole and consumed by the Gravitonium everything went back to normal and everyone dropped to the ground. Will quickly opened the door and he, Ward, and Skye rushed in. Coulson was ok and they saw the Gravitonium generator power down and the element was stabilized. While they were glad the island and everyone was safe Coulson wasn't happy with how it ended.

SHIELD 6-1-6 The Bus

The mission to Malta was a semi-success. The government had no idea what happened with the sudden earthquakes but SHIELD was able to get the UN approval to go in and stabilize the area and make sure everyone was ok. This also allowed them to grab the Gravitonium and destroy Dr. Halls research. Unfortunately, Quinn Worldwide Shareholders left including Quinn who must have regained consciousness and escaped via his private helicopter. But Will managed to get good visual ids on a lot of people there so he'd be paying them visits soon.

Will was with Coulson in his office on a video call with an agent down at the FRIDGE which was a SHIELD containment facility. "Say it back to me." Coulson told the agent.

"Deepest level of the FRIDGE, unmarked vault, no access granted." The agent stated.

"And no recorded entry. I don't want it listed. I don't want it flagged for the Slingshot. Anyone finds out, you're responsible—and suffering. Understood?" Coulson warned him.

"Yes, sir."

"That's what Hall would have wanted." Coulson ended the call and picked up his pistol where he ejected the mag and tried to take the slide off but was having some trouble. "I used to have this down. Should be just muscle memory."

"Well, when a man of your age reaches a certain point…muscle memory tends to fade a bit." Will pointed out.

"A man of my age? I'm not that old." Coulson told him.

"Sure. You're only as old as you feel." Will walked over and took out his pistol where he ejected the magazine, pulled the slide back to eject the bullet in the chamber and then pulled the slide off which took all about four seconds. "It must have been all those Mai Tais on your vacation. You're rusty."

"You're making a habit of these close calls, Coulson." They heard May said as she walked in. "I don't enjoy running back end."

"You want off the plane? Go ahead." Coulson told her.

"I want in." she walked over and put her hands behind her back at attention. "Reporting for combat next time it's up."

"You committed to the cause or just watching my back?" Coulson wondered.

"Same thing." May answered. "And he's right. You are a little rusty."

Coulson smiled at the thought of having May on full time when Will pat him on the back. "Things are starting to get interesting." Will took out some salt water taffy from his pocket and put one piece in his mouth and handed Coulson the other. "If you really want to get rid of the rust then meet me for training tomorrow morning at 8. It's only fair that since you trained me I get to retrain you. I'm gonna enjoy it."

He walked out of the office with a smile on his face and Coulson instantly felt a pit in his stomach. "I've got a bad feeling about this."

Will walked down the stairs of the Bus to the main living area and walked past the kitchen to see Fitz-Simmons sitting on the couch and Simmons cuddling with Goose. "Hope he's been a good boy."

Fitz-Simmons looked up to see Will get a bottle of water from the fridge and walked over. "He has. Just so well behaved." Simmons said, petting and scratching Goose all over and he was loving it. "Where did you get him?"

"He's sort of a family pet." Will replied as he took out some more salt water taffy from his pocket. "Salt Water Taffy?"

"Sure. Thank you." Fitz took one and Simmons decided to try it.

Simmons looked it over before putting it in her mouth. "James Candy Company?"

"The original in Atlantic City. My dad took me there since I could walk. It's a family tradition and ever since I've joined SHIELD after every mission I always eat one. Sort of my good luck charm." Will told her. "How are you two doing? I know Dr. Hall was someone you looked up to so today couldn't have been easy."

"Dr. Hall was a good person and great teacher but like everything in this world…not immune to change and bad influences." Fitz said.

"We'll just have to make sure that everything he taught us will be used to help people and not hurt them." Simmons added.

"That's a good outlook and reminder to remember going forward. Come on, Goose." Will walked to the cargo area and Goose followed him. They entered and saw Ward and Skye training down there which was a good sign.

[Meow] Goose nudged Will on the leg.

"No, but they're getting there, Goose. They're getting there." Will picked up Goose and headed to his bunk to get some rest and call Crystal to see how she was doing.

SHIELD 6-1-6 The Bus

Will and Coulson were in the cargo area of the Bus to do some morning training. Coulson took Will up on his offer despite his hesitance and worry about how much it would hurt but it was a good idea. Making sure there were no other issues with him being rusty going forward was a smart plan. Will and Coulson were in workout clothes and doing some light sparring on a training mat while Goose was laying down on Lola despite Coulson's protests. They traded punches and kicks as Will make sure to hold back a bit so he didn't kick Coulson through the plane or uppercut him into the ceiling but it was good enough for a solid workout. He threw out several quick punches, hooks, and jabs that Coulson blocked and parried before he put Will in a clinch and threw up some knees. He blocked and grappled Coulson to the ground where he got side control on him before posturing up and putting his knee on his stomach for ground & pound. It was a good position for control as Coulson's movements and escapes were limited with Will's knee on his stomach for control and it was ideal for striking as he had plenty of space and freedom of movement. Coulson kept his arms and hands over his head and face to block Will's strikes.

Coulson managed to lock Will's arms and pulled him closer with a grapple where he managed punch him in the side a few times before gaining the leverage and rolling over so he was on top. He put Will in a straight arm lock and threw out several knee strikes to his head but Will managed to move his arm to the side of his head and cushion the blows. He kicked his legs up and rolled back so he was on top of Coulson yet again and quickly put him in an arm bar. Coulson struggled to get free and get out but Will wasn't going to let him so he quickly grappled and put him in a triangle choke.

"Tap out." He warned him but Coulson did try to get some leverage and stand up to slam him down but Will just maneuvered so he was on top. Coulson was trapped and had no chance of escape. "Tap out."

"All right…" Coulson tapped out so Will released his grip and got up before helping him back to his feet.

"I love the irony. You trained me and kicked my ass the first 9 months when I started and now, I kicked your ass." Will smirked walking over to grab some water and tossed Coulson a towel.

"Yes, very ironic but also not very fair if you'll remember." Coulson reminded him as he took a sip of water. "But you were holding back in our spar. Special treatment?"

"More of keeping things close to the chest for our audience up above?" Will pointed up to the walkway where Ward, Skye, Fitz, and Simmons were watching them.

"Ah." Coulson nodded. "Don't you four have something better to do?"

"Right. Uh…we'll get on that." Fitz, Simmons, and Skye stumbled about and left as Will wiped his face with a towel.

"Not bad, sir." Ward told him.

"Thanks, Ward." Coulson replied before looking at Will. "We'll pick this up again tomorrow."

"Fair enough. Come on, Goose." Will walked over and pulled Goose off of Lola before wiping the spot he was on and heading upstairs to take a shower. Ward walked down after Will was gone to Coulson who was drinking some water.

"Sir, did I hear correctly? You trained Will?" Ward asked him.

"I did. I was the one who helped recruit him and had a personal rapport with him so I was selected to be one of his SOs." Coulson answered.

"One of them?" Ward was confused. SHIELD field agents and specialists in training tended to have one supervising officer unless they were still at the academy.

"Due to my obligations and Will's talent, I was in rotation with other supervising officers who helped train him. He's one of SHIELDs best and brightest for a reason." Coulson answered.

"Still, sir that doesn't really explain how he was made a Level-8 agent so young. From what I've been through it takes years of experience before being promoted to Level-5. What makes him so special?" Ward wondered.

"You've seen him in action. He gets results and he's accomplished some of SHIELD hardest and most dangerous missions. Special Operations, Tactics, and Defense Specialists are few because of how grueling their missions are. They're trained to be one-man armies and perform missions that would normally take a team. That and Will's character are what's brought him this far. He's someone who devotes it all to SHIELD and is willing to do whatever to protect people." Coulson put his towel around his neck and pat Ward on the shoulder. "He's someone who can be trusted so stop looking at him like an unknown or enemy and start looking at him as an ally and friend."

Coulson went to take a shower and get changed leaving Ward to his thoughts. Coulson was one of SHIELD's greatest so he wouldn't vouch for someone like Will unless he meant it but that didn't mean he was comfortable with him. The main reason: he knew nothing about him. Ward walked up to the main living area and went over to the touch table to access SHIELD's database. After confirming his log-in credentials Ward did a quick search in the database for Will Detmer and did manage to find his personnel file but what he found made him even more suspicious. The personnel file itself was sparce. It contained a photo of him, date of birth, the day he was made an agent, his official rank and title along with a small blurb about his background but a lot of it was heavily redacted. Ward tried to look for more but a message prompt came up that read: Access restricted to Level-10 Clearance.

"What the?" Ward took another look and tried to find something else that wasn't restricted but Will's personnel file was pretty much sparse.

[Meow]

Ward looked up and saw that Goose was sitting on the touch table across from him. "Uh…good cat." All Ward got in response was a hiss and growl before Goose walked away.

Ward couldn't find anything else in his personnel file so he did other searches and did find some transcripts and reports about Will's various missions. Ward was a SHIELD specialist so he was trained from day one to handle any missions or assignment by himself if the occasion arose. He was good but SOTD specialists were more specialized. Like the difference between a US Army Ranger and a US Army Ranger sniper. Both had similar training but one was more specialized.

Some parts of the transcripts were redacted due to classified information involving other governments but they read like spy novels or action films. Will's taken on various drug cartels and destroyed a few while working on joint missions with the DEA, took down part of the Maggia crime syndicate in Los Angeles, thwarted a North Korean insertion team in China, led a team of survivors to safety when a SHIELD expedition to Antarctica involving alien artifacts went bad, stopped the Collector Serial Killer in New York, terminated a vast criminal enterprise in Pittsburgh, killed a cannibal family in Texas that murdered and ate innocent people, assisted in several missions where agents went missing or killed in action, and his undercover work helped take down AIM and the Hellfire Club. He was extremely skilled and dangerous with a confirmed kill count that was likely in the mid hundreds. Undercover work, rescue missions, assassinations…it seems that Will was a jack of all trades.

Ward did a little more digging into Will's personnel file and eventually found something that piqued his interest. It was a genetic match in SHIELD's database to another personnel file marked as Will's biological father. It was John Garrett who was Ward's Supervising Officer during his training at SHIELD. Did Garrett know he had a son and what was their relationship like? Maybe that was something that could help Ward break the ice with Will.

A couple of hours later, the Bus had made a pitstop at a nearby SHIELD airfield to refuel and refit with food and equipment which also gave Will the chance to move his Red and Black 1970 Harley Davidson Titan V-Rod Motorcycle from the quinjet attached to the roof of the Bus to the cargo hold so he could do maintenance and have his own ride during a mission. Ward and Skye were going through another training session with fire arms. She managed to stop making pew sounds when she held up the gun but had a long way to go before she would be good. After that training session Skye took a shower and disappeared a bit for personal time. Will was in the cargo area doing maintenance on his motorcycle and Ward was with Fitz and Simmons who were working on something new.

"I've got one shot and it has to knock a person back, as well as out." Ward said, holding up a small vial of blue liquid.

"Which is why we're perfecting this little beauty." Fitz walked over with a new model pistol based on the design for a knock-out rifle he created called the Night-Night gun. ".45 caliber cartridges, semi-automatic. Each mag contains eight therapeutic rounds of Dendrotoxin."

"In case you miss." Simmons added only for Ward to look at her. "Or have multiple assailants."

Ward reached over to take the gun but Fitz pulled back. "Yeah, whoa. We're gonna have this new night-night pistol working in no time. Ok?"

"Great. One thing—we're not calling it that." Ward told him as he left the lab.

"Ah, told you." Simmons said to Fitz.

"Yes, we-yes we are." Fitz muttered.

Ward walked out of the lab just as Coulson walked down the stairs. "Have you seen Skye?"

"Not since weapons training." Ward replied.

"Has she stopped saying bang when she pulls the trigger?" Coulson wondered.

"Mostly. Now, if she can just learn the difference between the safety release and the magazine release, we'll be making real progress." Ward commented, heading back upstairs. Coulson looked over at Will who was doing maintenance on the engine of his motorcycle. He just pointed to the SUV parked in the cargo hold so Coulson walked over and knocked on the window which rolled down so he could see Skye sitting in the back on her laptop.

"What's up, Phil?" Skye greeted with a smile.

"I'd prefer you not call me Phil." Coulson told her.

"Ok, you're the boss…A.C. Just missing my van a bit, taking a little me time." Skye said.

"I want your help with something."

"Hit me with it."

"You ever rob a bank?"

"No."

"An armored car?"

"Nope."

"How about a Casino?"

"Should I be offended?" Skye asked him.

"Somebody's stealing millions of dollars in diamonds. They've found a way to crack the security systems. I want you to figure out their exploit." Coulson told her and Skye was intrigued.

Stockholm, Switzerland

The Bus landed in Switzerland where Coulson led Will, Skye, and May to the sight of the latest diamond heist which actually happened in broad daylight and despite the security measures put in place the thief got away with everything. Coulson briefed them on the details as they headed to the crime scene.

"Yesterday, twenty-five men, all military, were hired by one of the largest gem brokers in the world. They dressed the men in identical outfits, gave each one a randomly assigned briefcase, and sent them along twenty-five different routes here in Stockholm. No one knew which briefcase contained the diamonds, but they were still stolen." Coulson signed them in at the crime scene which was secured by the Swedish police.

"Why the Kabuki theater?" May wondered.

"They were afraid because somebody's targeting diamonds. An armored car in Milan, a safe in Monte Carlo, and now this—over $30 mil total. Each theft occurred despite heavy security." Coulson answered.

"They sound like inside jobs." Will pointed out. "But you don't think so. Any CCTV cameras?"

"Fitz-Simmons is checking. The system went dark for an hour. They think it was hacked." Coulson replied.

"It was the same thieves each time?" May asked.

"Yes, but it was just one thief—a woman. And she did it all with her eyes closed." Coulson added.

"Eyewitness ID?" Will asked.

"Black athletic build, late 20s, early 30s." Coulson listed off.

"So, you asked how she could have cracked the system. I have a pitch but it's way outside the box." Skye suggested.

"I live outside the box." Coulson replied.

"There are people in the world with superpowers, right? What if this woman had ESP or something?" Skye suggested.

"Nice idea Skye but SHIELD keeps a list on anyone with those kinds of powers and other than Aegis of the Avengers no one has the kind of abilities like that. Not matching Coulson's description at least." Will told her.

"Are you sure?" Skye asked Will.

"He's sure. Will and I have high access clearance to SHIELD's power list. We have no record of someone with powers matching the description." Coulson added.

"Ok but this woman knew impossible things. And why did she close her eyes? That's either random or totally important. Was she listening…or was she reading minds?" Skye asked but saw the blank stares she was getting from Will, Coulson, and May. "I'm gonna go play with my phone now."

Skye sat down and did just that while the others figured out how this was possible. "Why does HQ want us to investigate these heists?" May asked Coulson.

"They don't. I picked this op." Coulson answered.

"You have an idea who did this, don't you?" Will said and Coulson nodded.

"A few. Your assessment?" Coulson asked him so Will looked around the train a bit, noting the dimensions, placement of civilians and the diamond carriers and how he would actually do this. He noticed the blood stain on the floor from where the thief cut off the carrier's hand for the briefcase so the thief wasn't squeamish. All of this effort and high stakes thefts weren't about money since there would be easier stationary targets worth probably just as much. That meant whoever was behind this picked these targets had either an in with the company or chose it for a reason.

"The gem broker?" Will asked.

"Perfectly legal on paper but intelligence agencies have long suspected they do business with various people and organizations SHIELD doesn't care for." Coulson answered.

"Whoever did this had military or intelligence training and it's not about the money. There are dozens of easier targets that would be worth much more. The reason they'd go after the targets of this kind of broker would be prior knowledge and wanting to avoid the media attention a regular diamond heist would cause. The broker wants this dealt with quietly to limit bad business which makes it the ideal target for someone on the run or wanting to stay hidden." Will theorized and it was sound logic. "Skye, anything?"

"Yeah, I have full bars down here. So, what would I do if I saw a bunch of guys in creepy masks show up on a train? Instagram." Skye showed them her phone and it was an Instagram image of the men on the train.

SHIELD 6-1-6 The Bus

They returned to the Bus and began scouring social media posts and updates about the men in red masks for an ID on the thief along with any other information they could get.

"It's amazing. Every year, this part of our job gets easier. Between Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr, people are surveilling themselves." Coulson remarked.

"With many filters to choose from. I could do this pretty well when I was hacking for the Rising Tide, but you guys tag and search in ways the rest of us never dreamed of." Skye stated.

"Don't get any ideas, Skye." Will warned him.

"I can run facial-recognition software on the photos, cross-reference them with our criminal databases." May suggested when Coulson stopped on one photo of a woman matching the description.

"You don't have to. That's the thief. Her name's Akela Amador." Coulson told them.

"Are you sure?" Will asked him.

"I should be. I trained her." Coulson replied which was a bit of a shock. "Akela Amador was a SHIELD agent. Seven years ago, she led a raid on one of Vanchat's Gulags. Everyone believed that she and the other two agents on the mission were killed. I had my doubts. So, I sent in a second team, just in case. They found a lot of carnage but couldn't confirm that any of it was Amador—left the possibility open."

"That's why you chose this op. When you heard about the heists." May surmised.

"There are only a few women in the world who could pull off something so impossible. Since you're on the bus and Romanoff is with SHIELD, I thought it had to be her." Coulson admitted as they headed down to the main area where Ward had some new information.

"Swedish customs confirmed that Amador left the country using an alias on a Swedish passport. She flew into Belarus, bought a train ticket to a town called Zloda." Ward showed them the data he got from Swedish customs and security footage. "I also put together a list of individuals who could fence that many diamonds. There's been no contact or activity."

"I'm with Will's suggestion that Amador didn't do this for the money. She's working for someone who needed the diamonds. Let's focus on finding Amador." Coulson told them.

"I'll let HQ know she's alive so they can assist with the manhunt." May suggested.

"I'd like to hold off on that." Coulson told her which was a bit of a surprise. "Until we know more. Contact Belarus authorities. Find us a place to park the Bus. Finds us a list of hotels, and pensions near Zloda. There can't be that many of them."

"I'll see if my underworld contacts can get us anything or any information that could help." Will added.

"Thank you." Coulson replied as May and Ward left to handle their assignments.

"I'm not so special after all." Skye remarked causing Will and Coulson to look at her. "I'm not your first protégé. Relax, I'm teasing. I know I'm not a protégé. Hell, I'm not even a real life SHIELD agent yet."

"You two couldn't be more different. Amador was smart, talented, fearless."

"Wow, there's nothing in common." Skye muttered.

"Let me finish. She didn't play well with others, found little value in teamwork. I thought I could instill those qualities in her, so I pushed her, maybe too hard." Coulson admitted.

"Don't go blaming yourself for what happened to Amador or what she's been doing ever since, Coulson. You're not one for the pity party, we both know that." Will remarked.

"And you're usually more compassionate for situations like this." Coulson pointed out.

"You want me to get my pen and pad and you can lay down on the couch and tell me how you're really feeling?" Will suggested.

"I'd rather not."

"Come on, Coulson. You were the one who taught me that and I know you well enough that you not one to wallow in self-pity over things you can't control." Will reminded him. "You had no idea what really happened so you can't blame yourself for what Amador is doing."

"I trained her. Everything she can do is because of me." Coulson said.

"And by that logic I trained Goose so him being able to pee in a toilet but preferring to do it in Lola to mess with you is also on me." Will remarked and Coulson immediately looked at him in horror.

"What?"

"Kidding." Will said and Coulson felt relieved while Skye chuckled a bit. "Coulson, you have trained a lot of great SHIELD agents before me and your job as an SO is to do everything you can to ready them for the field and what they could possibly encounter. It's up to them how they handle themselves, what choices them make and what consequences they face. You can't control what happens then. This isn't your fault so don't blame yourself. However, if you want to find out what happened and get some answers…that's another story and one I'm more than ready to help on."

"Thank you." Coulson replied.

"Don't mention it." Will nodded. "Besides, one student went bad but you're best one is still here and making you proud I'm sure."

He pat Coulson on the shoulder and left to get something to drink. Coulson then looked over at Skye. "He's not my best student."

"Yes, I am!" Will shouted so they could hear him.

Zloda, Belarus

The Bus parked at a nearby airfield and the team drove to Zloda in a nondescript white van while Will drove on his bike with May and Goose staying behind on the plane. Will lead the path on his bike and Ward followed him in the van.

"How exciting. I've dreamed of visiting Zloda since I was a schoolgirl." Simmons smiled.

"Zloda, Belarus? A dream come true? Really?" Fitz asked her.

"It's the birthplace of Nobel Physicist Zhores Alferov. I mean, technically he's from Vitebsk, but that's less than an hour from here, and I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't know that." Simmons replied.

"Well, no, of course I know who that is, father of heterostructure transistors, thank you very much. We're all well aware of that. I'm just a little preoccupied. Our first and only other time in the field wasn't exactly a picnic, was it?" Fitz pointed out.

"You guys are only here to search for Amador electronically. You won't even need to leave the van." Coulson promised them when May radioed in.

"Bus to Short Bus."

"Go for Short Bus." Ward replied.

"Next time, I'll decide what we call ourselves, ok." Coulson told him.

"HQ has requested a status update."

"What'd you tell them?" Coulson asked her.

"That we're tracking a potential suspect—nothing more."

"I owe you one."

"More like three."

They were just outside the town so Ward parked the van on the side of the road while Will road ahead on his bike. "If Amador's here, she'll have to contact her buyer. Scan for cellphone transmissions, encrypted e-mails, anomalous broadcast signatures. Call us if you find anything that indicates her presence." Coulson told them.

"Maintain radio silence unless you really need help." Ward added as he and Coulson got out of the van.

"Well, what exactly defines needing help?!" Fitz asked just as Ward shut the door.

"I can only imagine how painful this must be for you, sir—betrayed by someone you trained and believed in." Ward said to Coulson as they entered the town and saw Will speaking to one of the locals.

"We don't know all the facts yet." Coulson reminded him.

"True, but I have to assume the worst—that Amador sold out the other two agents on her mission. Wonder what she got in exchange." Ward wondered.

"I don't know but until we do, I'm not gonna assume anything." Coulson stated as Will walked over. "What'd you find out?"

"I talked to the owner of the grocery store and he recognized Amador. Said she picked up a few things and paid cash so no diamonds. She was heading north and there's a hotel there so it could be where she's staying." Will suggested.

"Nice find." Coulson nodded as the three walked through the town in the direction of their latest intel. Ward looked back at Will's motorcycle parked on the side of road.

"Nice bike." Ward commented.

"Thanks. She's my pride and joy. My dad fixed her up after ten years of hard work and scrounging for parts." He replied.

"Really? Didn't know Garrett was a motorcycle guy." Ward said and Will stopped walking. "I know he's a car person but never knew he was a motorcycle guy."

"Then you know him better than I do." Will told him. "You must have read my personnel file and found out that John Garrett is my biological father. Well, whatever relationship you have with him or whatever you thought…the man is nothing more to me than a sperm donor."

"I know Garrett is a hard ass but he couldn't be that bad." Ward suggested.

"Wouldn't know because he probably doesn't even know I exist and if he does then he doesn't care." Will stated. "He's my biological father but the only relationship I have with him is the fact we work for the same agency. And the only fatherly thing he has ever done was be at the right bar at the right time to hook up with my birth mother for a drunken one-night stand. I buried my real parents years ago so I don't need new ones."

"I'm sorry. I didn't know." Ward replied.

"It's fine but consider the matter closed forever. Don't ever bring him up to me again." Will warned him before he continued walking to the hotel.

"That was a little harsh." Ward muttered.

"Just give him some time to cool off. He'll be fine. We know Garrett's a good guy but Will doesn't and well…when he lost his adopted parents, it was a hard scene to watch." Coulson told him.

"You were there?" Ward asked and Coulson nodded.

"It wasn't a good day." Coulson replied as they followed Will through the town. True to Coulson's word, Will calmed down and while he was a little agitated, he was able to stay professional for the job. That's when Ward's phone rang as Skye was calling him.

"Did you locate Amador?"

"What? No, not yet. But we've found a broadcast with some weird signal encrypted into it."

"You think Amador could be communicating on that signal?" Ward wondered.

"Maybe, but I called with an equally pressing question for you, my SO. What are we supposed to do if we have to pee?"

"You broke protocol because you need a bathroom break?"

"It was a really, really, long driver and everyone's nervous."

"There's a container in the bottom of the blue chest." Ward told her so she and Simmons did a little digging.

"Not the water bottle."

"That's the one."

"Did you never learn the thing that boy parts and girl parts are different, and our parts aren't penises?"

"Agent Coulson, Agent Detmer and I are trying to find a dangerous criminal. If there's nothing else pressing..."

"Wait, one second. Fitz wants to know if you packed any snacks."

"Yeah, I'm feeling a bit peckish."

Ward just hung up after that in time as they arrived at the hotel and talked with the receptionist at the front desk. "Dobryy Den." Coulson greeted her.

"Good afternoon." She replied in English.

"I'm Agent Coulson. This is Agent Ward and Agent Detmer. We're looking for this young woman." Coulson showed her a photo of Amador using his phone.

"Oh, she's my angel." The woman said.

"Why do you say that?" Ward asked her.

"She has gift—knows things. She told me to go to doctor. He found a tumor. I'm having surgery next week. This girl saved me." She answered.

Will using his telekinetic sense to try and sense for Amador in the hotel. He did find the occupants of the building but none of them were Amador. "It's very important that we talk with her." Coulson told her.

"With her gift, I'm sure she knows you're coming." The woman said.

"That's not foreboding at all." Will muttered as he stepped outside and used his phone to talk to EDI. "EDI, Skye mentioned something about a frequency encrypted in a broadcast signal? Did she manage to find anything?"

"She did and managed to clear up the signal. One moment. I'm accessing the data feed she is tapped into." EDI showed him a video signal that looked like a camera of someone was walking through Zloda on vacation yet it was encrypted.

"Coulson." Will walked over to show him and Ward the video feed. "It's the broadcast signal with the encryption frequency Skye mentioned."

"Is this live?" Ward asked.

"Looks like it but it looks like a tourist's video camera." Coulson remarked when they saw the person or whatever the feed was coming from was heading in the same direction as the van. "They're heading to the van."

"I'm on it." Will took his phone and ran all the way back to his bike. Hopefully, he would get there in time.

Skye, Fitz, and Simmons were watching the same broadcast signal and while they thought it was maybe a television signal it wasn't. The camera then showed a white van which was weird. "That looks like our van." Fitz commented when the screen changed to a black and white mode that was able to penetrate the van. He stood up and waved his arms and it was copied on the screen. "That looks like us."

That's when the van them seemed to get larger. "Why are we getting bigger?" Simmons asked when something slammed into the van and knocked them around.

"Let's get out of here!" Skye scrambled to the driver's seat where she saw a truck backing up. She tried to start the car but it was stalling and she couldn't reach the pedals. "Stupid tall person! Call Coulson! Get the gun!"

Simmons reached over and handed her the pistol and quickly called Coulson. Skye looked over and managed to see the driver. It was Amador. "It's her. Safety off." She flipped the switch but the magazine fell out of the pistol instead. Once quick glance over and Amador was speeding at them. "Bang?"

The truck barreled into the side of the van and knocked it onto its roof. She backed up the truck when she heard the engine of a motorcycle closing in and saw someone driving at her. She sped up the truck in reverse and pulled out her pistol as Will drove straight at her. He pulled out his HK pistol and aimed at her tire only for her to suddenly pull a quick reverse 180 turn. With her speed and his, he didn't have enough time to move his motorcycle out of the way so it hit the front of the truck but he jumped off at the last second and rolled on the ground. He continued rolling as she shot at him before changing gears and driving away, running over his motorcycle in the process.

Will quickly pulled the slide back on his pistol and loaded a special tracking dart before tagging the van and then shooting the rest of his magazine to make it seem natural. He watched her drive away and looked over to see the van was knocked over. That's when he saw his motorcycle and it was wrecked. "Motherfucker!"

He picked up the handlebars which had broken off. The bike's frame itself was fine but he would have to do a lot of fixing now. "Hello?" He heard Simmons call out which shocked him out of his little pity party and he rushed over to help the others. He forced open the back of the van and saw three moving bodies so no one was dead.

"You guys ok?"

"Nothing seems broken." Fitz muttered as Will helped him out of the van. They likely had some cuts and bruises along with possible shock but they'd be fine. Fitz and Will helped Simmons and Skye out of the van and surveyed the damage. That's when Skye saw Will's motorcycle in the street.

"Sorry about your bike? Where is she?" Skye asked.

"She's gone." Will replied, taking out his phone and checking the signal from the tracking dart on the truck. "I don't care if she's really gone bad or if she's been forced to work for whoever. She ran over my bike. One way or another, I'm gonna kill her."

Line Break xxxxx

SHIELD 6-1-6 the Bus

The team's return trip to the airfield took longer than expected since the van was turned over and Will brought a cart to bring along his wrecked motorcycle. The team walked into the Bus in a very bad mood, most of which was coming from Will as he dragged along a cart that contained the wreckage of his bike. You didn't need to see his face to know that he was pissed. Coulson was the last to walk in and he knew he had messed up a bit and didn't need to see May's face to know she thought so as well. It also didn't help that Will was likely to be out for blood after his bike was trashed.

"Sir, Amador attacked you and your people. Whatever regard you hold for her isn't reciprocated. She just kicked us in the teeth." Ward told him as the two were talking up in the main living area.

"How's the team?" Coulson asked him.

"Rattled. No broken bones. Will's beyond angry that she ran over his bike." Ward added.

"I noticed. I'm gonna pay for that one later." Coulson muttered.

"We were lucky she just knocked the van over so she could get away. Probably take a while for our folks to refocus." Ward pointed out when Skye walked in.

"I think I can recover the data signature of that encrypted broadcast. I don't understand it yet, but that's how she was watching us. Give me an hour. Maybe we can start watching back." Skye told them. Ward wasn't sure what to do as his point seemed diminished so he left to get changed.

Will was in the cargo area looking over the broken pieces of his motorcycle in dismay and sadness. Fitz was with him looking things over and getting a layout of the damage. Fitz was an engineer so Will was gonna need his help to fix his bike. "If my dad could see his bike now he'd kill me for what happened. What do you think, Fitz? Will she ride again?" Will asked him.

Fitz picked up the handlebars of the bike and they still had the rearview mirrors attached…only for one to comically fall off and shatter. Will just groaned in sadness and annoyance as Fitz carefully placed it back down. "She will. It'll take some time to rebuild her for sure but it's not impossible. The frame is still solid so we'll just have to replace what's been broken. Any modifications you want to add? Guns and things like that?" Fitz wondered.

"No, no modifications except to the engine to make it better but she stays the pre-1980 classic she is. No electronic chips or anything." Will told him.

"All right. I've fixed some engines before so we'll just need the parts. There's some stuff here we could use but we'll have to wait until we land again and resupply to get the rest." Fitz stated.

"Fair enough." Will walked over and put a tarp over his destroyed motorcycle, finding it hard to see it in this state. "Skye, anything yet on the signal?"

"Yeah, but something's wrong. It's the same feed that was watching us in the van. Uh, put it on the big monitor." Skye said so Fitz grabbed a tablet and began to mirror the broadcast frequency Skye found. Ward, Coulson, and May arrived in the lab just in time to see what was going on.

"Maybe the lens fractured when she rammed us?" Simmons suggested.

"I hope she broke more than that." Skye muttered as they saw the footage show up on the screen. It was of a foggy mirror that was wiped clean and it was Amador in the reflection.

"It's a mirror. Are we recording this?" Coulson asked.

"Uh…we are now." Skye replied, tapping a few buttons to record the video.

"Whoa…" Fitz muttered.

"What the hell is going on? Where's the camera?" Will asked.

That's when they saw Amador take a screwdriver to her eye to fix something. "It's her eye. She's the camera." May stated. They saw Amador close her eyes and the video broadcast change to the same black and white mode to show the intricate prosthetic left eye she had.

"It switches to backscatter when she closes her eyes." Fitz theorized as Will took out his phone and had EDI trace the broadcast signal in conjunction with the signal from the tracer to narrow her location.

"You're a robot. Can you do that?" Skye asked Ward who looked unamused.

"Who has tech like this?" Ward asked Fitz.

"We don't—not like this. Not this small and internal. That's a least a decade ahead of anything I've seen." Fitz answered. "Though, now that I've seen it, I could maybe approximate it—the backscatter X-ray, a micro-transceiver that somehow doesn't fry her brain, an internal power source…"

"All miniaturized. Honestly, it's…"

"Genius." Fitz-Simmons said together.

"We have to bring her in." Coulson stated.

"We have to take her out. She's a weapon." May told him. "I'll call HQ. See if we can bring a task force in to help us."

"Our team can handle this." Coulson told her.

"No. I will." Everyone looked and saw it was Will who said that. "Track her down and I'll take her out. This time she won't get away."

"You're ready to pull the trigger that quickly?" Coulson asked him.

"I ready to stop her before she hurts anyone else or whoever is behind this gets what they want." Will corrected him as everyone in the room could feel the tension. "Coulson, I get it. You feel responsible but what's happened now isn't your fault. She's tried to kill us."

"If she wanted us dead, we'd be dead." Coulson pointed out.

"We got lucky or maybe she didn't care enough. Do you want to risk everyone on that hunch again?" Will asked him.

"You told me that you were ready to help bring her in. Get answers and that you had my back." Coulson said to him.

"Never doubt that. But you are defending her without thought to the rest of the team."

"Because we protect our own." Coulson reminded Will.

"With all due respect, sir. She's not one of our own." Ward added.

"Coulson, you were the one who taught me to protect everyone we can. We protect our own in SHIELD but you reminded me to never let it get this personal if it endangers anyone else or the mission. You're too close to this." Will pointed out. "If I were in your position fighting this hard for someone then you would be saying the exact same thing I'm saying to you."

"Guys." Skye said, getting Will and Coulson's attention. They saw that Amador was writing down the words Can I Sleep?

"Why does she have to ask for permission?" Simmons wondered.

"That's when they saw the words Standby appear on screen. "She's not being watched. She's being controlled. We have to find her." Coulson stated.

"Already on it. Edi." Will said and EDI connected to the Bus's system.

"What is going on?" Fitz asked.

"I'm sorry for hijacking your system Mr. Fitz, but it'll make my search much easier if I have control." Edi replied.

"You have your own AI program?" Simmons asked Will.

"Gift from a friend. EDI, have you managed to track down Amador?" Will asked her. EDI brought up various satellite tracking data and maps along with security camera footage she was plugged into.

"Based on the tracking data from the dart you tagged the truck with, I tracked her position to a gas station ten miles outside of Zloda where she acquired new transportation. I managed to keep track of her using CCTV and highway camera footage and she arrived in Minsk where she checked into the Crown Regent Hotel under an alias. I have lobby security camera footage to confirm her arrival and I've accessed the hotel's database to find her room number. Floor 5 room number 12."

"Do you mind if I borrow her?" Skye asked Will but he ignored her request.

"We have a location so we have the element of surprise only this time she won't see us coming." Ward stated.

"We're here to bring Amador in, not kill her. I don't want to hear any more objections to that mandate. This is my team and it's my call." Coulson told everyone. "Whoever is controlling her needs her for something so if we figure that out then we can get some answers."

"Fine, it's your call but I'll handle how we do it. Skye rewind the footage and show us the prosthetic." Will asked her and she did it, stopping on the image of her backscatter that showed the eye. "Fitz, you said you could make your own version of this. Think you can do it before sunrise?"

"Uh…if I have all the material I might be able to get something working." Fitz replied.

"It doesn't have to be an exact match. Just something we can use in the field. Skye, you said you were tapped into the broadcast frequency. Learn everything and see if you can hijack the feed. EDI can help you." Will told her. "If we get everything in place then we might be able to get ahead of whoever's behind this."

"What if we can't get it all working before then?" Simmons wondered but Will didn't answer her question because he didn't think she or Coulson would like the answer.

"Get to work." He told them before heading upstairs to get some rest and clear his head. The team got to work on their various tasks with one person always watching the feed for any kind of anomalies or variables that could come up.

Coulson retired to his office to do some general SHIELD logistical paperwork but also because there wasn't really anything else he could do at this moment. He sat at the desk and looked at Amador's old SHIELD profile when Skye showed up a few hours later. "Hey, I just wanted to give you an update. She's still at the hotel so…that's the update." Skye said. "It's a pretty weird day, huh. It's like we were trapped in a van-shaped Pinata."

"That should never have happened." Coulson swore to her.

"It's ok. It wasn't nearly as terrible as watching father and son fight downstairs." Skye added.

"That shouldn't have happened either but Will was within his right to bring up concerns on a mission when the team's safety is in question. And he has a point." Coulson admitted. "This mission got personal and he was smart to intervene and pull me back. If I was in his position I would have done the same thing.

"Well don't take it personal. I don't think Will did all of that to make you feel bad." Skye said to him. "I don't know him all that well…or really at all but it seems like you and he have a real friendship."

"When I first met him he was a regular college student. Good grades, athlete, kept his nose clean and was majoring in psychology. A regular person who would have lived a regular life away from all of this. Not so soon after we met did he begin his SHIELD training to be an agent." Coulson remembered. "He's a good person with a good heart…and he's one of the best I've ever trained."

"So, he just joined SHIELD like that? Left college and everything to be a secret agent?" Skye wondered.

"It's a little more complicated than that." Coulson told her.

"Did it have to do with his cousin? Will mentioned how his cousin was taken by human traffickers and it was one of the reasons he stayed with SHIELD." She was fishing for more information on Will and it was an interesting story.

"Not exactly. That happened after he started his training. I was with him when he found out and despite all the legal issues, danger, and punishments if he went on his own…he went after them with full force and dismantled one of the world's largest human trafficking operations. It was months after that on vacation with his college friends where they were captured by pirates. That's when things got strange." Coulson admitted.

"Pirates?" Skye asked for clarification.

"A lot happened but Will dug through it and rescued everyone. Years later…he still has the same good heart. I've seen how this job can change people. Just hope it didn't change Amador like we think it did." Coulson prayed before he looked over at Skye. "You regret coming along?"

"It was pretty impulsive, even for me. I still don't know much about you…except for you value really old stuff. And you value me. First person to do that in a long time. So, I happen to believe you're an excellent judge of character. If you think this woman deserves a second chance, we should give it to her…even though she tried to kill me and I kind of hate her guts." Skye left his office and this little conversation helped his spirit.

Crown Regent Hotel, Minsk, Belarus

Akela Amador was sleeping soundly in her bed in the hotel. It was the middle of the night and she had hours left to sleep but when the lights turned on suddenly she shot up awake. She moved the blanket off her but kept her gaze down. Will was in the corner of the room wearing his SHIELD tactical combat gear with his pistol strapped to his thigh.

"Whoever's monitoring you, do they have audio?" He asked.

"No. But they'll use facial recognition to determine you're a SHIELD agent." Amador told him.

"Good. So, they know you're in trouble." Will remarked.

"Did Coulson send you?" Amador wondered.

"No. He feels sorry for you and wants to help. A part of me does too so I'm giving you this one chance. I'll take you in to SHIELD. You'll get fair trial and this is over with no one else getting hurt." He told her.

"You have no idea, do you?" She asked him.

"I know that you receive orders."

"Then you know that once they see you, only one of us gets to walk out of here. They built in a fail-safe." Amador said before she looked up at him and whoever was controlling her got a good look. "Either I kill you…or they kill me."

"Then I guess this end with you dead because if you knew who I was then you'd know how outmatched you are. And you ran over my motorcycle." Will warned her. "I was going to make this painful…but I'll do you favor and make this quick."

Amador stood up and aimed her pistol only for Will to kick it out of her hand and then hit her in the face with a hook kick. She bounced off the wall and threw out several quick strikes and a straight kick to his chest and head but he blocked them all before landing an elbow strike to her nose and then a knee to her chest. She backed up to avoid right cross before attacking with a vicious four punch combo and then added a knee and side kick but Will parried them all. He grabbed her leg, punched her in the face and then threw her into the room service cart. Amador picked up the steak knife from her dinner and threw it but Will just leaned his head to the side. Seeing how she was outclassed Amador closed her eyes and smashed the room light next to her so it was pitch black.

Her backscatter function activated so she was able to see the room clearly. She saw her gun on the floor so she quietly moved over to pick it up. "Trying to use lack of sight to your advantage. Inventive…" Will quickly rushed forward and grabbed her hand before she could aim the gun at him. He grabbed her by the throat and threw her up against the wall. "…but like I said, you're outclassed."

He kneed her in the gut three times, headbutted her and threw her across the room where she bounced off the wall and hit the ground with a thud. Amador spit out some blood and quickly picked up her gun and aimed it when her hotel room door was kicked in. She adjusted her aim only for Coulson to shoot her square in the chest and the impact knocked her to the ground. Coulson walked into the room next to Will as they looked over Amador's body which had no blood bleeding out despite being shot. The reason for that was because Coulson used Fitz's new Night-Night gun so Amador was actually tranquilized.

"Skye, did you have control of the footage?" Coulson radioed in via comms.

"I've got it. We're good." Skye replied, seeing everything happen smoothly with whoever was in control none the wiser. "Ward's on his way up."

"All right, Phase 2." Will radioed in as Coulson looked at the room and Amador.

"Think you went a little overboard?" Coulson wondered.

"She ran over my bike. She's lucky to not get a bullet." Will pointed out.

SHIELD 6-1-6 The Bus

Amador woke up feeling groggy with aches all over her body from the beating she received. That's when she saw Coulson sitting across from her.

"You're safe now." He assured her. Amador shot up and turned around so her implant didn't see his face. "Give it a minute. I hit you with a powerful Dendrotoxin and you were in a pretty intense fight. I told him to go easy on you but it looks like he didn't."

"There's a kill switch in my eye. Why hasn't my handler blown it yet?" Amador wondered.

"As far as your handler knows, you fought Agent Detmer, you both when down, then you got up and left the building to complete your mission." Coulson explained.

"How?"

"We hijacked your feed. One of my agents is wearing a set of glasses mimicking your implant. Right now, it's transmitting his point of view as if it was yours. It even has backscatter imaging." Coulson told her and he was right. Ward was in the field wearing the glasses with Skye running support for the equipment.

"I get messages from my handler." Amador pointed out.

"We're receiving those, as well. My agent's on his way to the Todorov building—completing your mission while we disable the fail-safe in your eye. I promise. They can't see you. You're ok, Akeela. Look at me." Coulson said as she slowly turned around to look at him. "How long have they been monitoring you?"

"Years. Why are you doing this, Coulson?"

"I need to know why a Proxy card is worth $30 million—"

"No. Why are you doing this? Why are you helping me? Where is the I told you so?" She asked him.

"That's not me anymore." Coulson replied. "I'm just glad you're alive."

"Vanchat would have never caught us if I'd just done my job. I should have listened to you…trusted my team the way you insisted. If I had…they might still be alive." Amador broke down as May and Will watched her over the security cameras in the cage.

"How'd you manage to escape?" Coulson wondered, handing her a water bottle.

"I didn't. Got caught in a crossfire, went down. Woke up in some half-assed triage bay, blind in this eye. Spent the next four years alone in a cage at the bottom of a copper mine." Amador explained.

"We looked for you. Heard rumors you'd been taken to the Shanxi province." Coulson said.

"When a team finally came, I thought it was SHIELD at first, but…"

"Who were they?"

"Don't know, even to this day but they were organized. They took me to a clinic. I had multiple surgeries. Until one day I could see out of both eyes again. I was so grateful…until I realized what they'd done."

"Somebody was watching." Coulson said.

"My every move. I had no idea until they sent the first message. Then the assignments started. Mostly, it was steal this, follow him, break into there. I just tried to ignore them but when I did I'd get this pain, like an electric migraine." Amador remembered.

"The fail-safe."

"Polite way of putting it. Now, when I think about my years in the cage…I miss it. I wish I could go back, be alone, sleep in peace." Amador muttered.

"I know you're tired but I need your help." Coulson told her.

"If you want information on the Proxy card, you're out of luck." Amador stated.

"You can't go on missions without intel." Coulson pointed out.

"It comes in pieces—a name, an address. Only contacts are the messages I receive from the Englishman." Amador said.

"The Englishman? Your handler? How do you know he's English?" Coulson wondered.

"The way he refers to certain things. He uses lift instead of elevator, boot instead of trunk."

"Think about the messages. What else do you know about him?" Coulson asked her.

"He's late 30s, early 40s. Uses dated references—disk drive instead of flash drive, Burma instead of Myanmar." Amador added.

"How's his typing?"

Amador thought it over in her head to remember even the slightest details. "Clumsy. Makes a lot of mistakes."

"Thick fingers, maybe heavyset."

"Sir, we're ready down here." Simmons radioed in.

"On our way." Coulson replied as he brought Amador out of the Cage and took her down to the lab for the surgery.

Will and May were at the touch table monitoring everything going on for the mission. "Skye, how's Ward doing?" He asked.

"He's fine. How's everything there?" She asked.

"Fitz-Simmons are prepping her for surgery and we might have gotten a lead on whoever's behind this. Help Ward however you can. And Ward, try and stall. Giving us more time might help us." Will told him.

"I'll do my best." He replied.

Will brought up SHIELD's satellite scans of the area and interfaced them with various broadcast frequencies both incoming and outgoing. May then brought up nearby broadcast and radio towers that had the power to facilitate an encrypted broadcast like this and then matched that up with the incoming information they got every time a new message arrived. The more messages they got, the more they could narrow down the signal source.

Coulson walked over to check on their progress. "How's the search going?"

"We've narrowed it down to roughly a ten square mile area in Minsk so he's definitely local." Will answered.

"Any idea where he's transmitting from?" Coulson asked.

"Not yet but somewhere in the city. Every time he sends a message, we get closer." May replied.

"Keep us updated on Comm 3. Will, let's go." Coulson told him.

"I can track him down solo if you want to stay here and oversee the operation." Will suggested.

"Thanks, but I'm fine. And about earlier—"

"I know, me too." Will grabbed his jacket and his phone. "Let's go."

Will and Coulson took Lola since they didn't want to risk the handler seeing the SHIELD logo on the SUV. They drove out of the airfield when Will's phone got an alert so he put it on the dashboard and activated EDI. "EDI, talk to me."

"The location has been narrowed from ten square miles to five. I'll keep you updated."

"Thanks." Will replied as Coulson sped up Lola until they arrived in the city. Ward's mission took a turn for the weird as he had to seduce a guard to get into the secured area Amador was supposed to get into but the influx of messages he got was enough to give them a more precise location.

"I've narrowed down his location to a few blocks near Victory Square." EDI told them.

"Thanks, EDI." Coulson sped up and parked on the side of the street where he and Will rushed over to Victory Square. "Think you can track him down?"

"Give me a second." Will closed his eyes and concentrated, reading the minds of every single person in Victory Square and within a few blocks which was a few hundred.

I can't believe I was fired. What is Eleanor going to say?

That much? This cashier is ripping me off.

There is no way that girl is with him because of his looks. Has to be loaded.

Out of the way! I'm running late.

Asshole just ran into me.

I can't find a parking spot to save my life.

These were just some of the voices he heard in his head but they quickly left as they entered. Will was shuffling through the thoughts of every single person as fast as he could until he found or heard something that sounded English or referenced the heist.

"Anything?" Coulson asked but Will didn't answer until he heard something.

Mission accomplished. Good luck.

"Found him." Will led Coulson through the park to a yellow brick building across from the square. "He's there. First floor, second door to the right. He's got what he needs."

"Two man breach. Shock and awe." Coulson told him as he and Will stacked up at the door. "Remember, we need him alive so watch where you shoot. And don't let him near a laptop or computer."

"Roger that." Will replied as he and Coulson took out their pistols. Coulson held up his hand and counted down from five. The second he hit zero Will kicked the door in and Coulson was first through as the large heavyset English man sitting at the desk jumped in fright.

"SHIELD! You're under arrest!" Coulson shouted as he and Will grabbed the man and took him to the ground.

"I got him." Will secured his hands with zip cuffs and turned him so they could see him and he wasn't all that to look at. "We need to talk."

"Oh, god." The man muttered before they heard a small ping and saw the man's left eye blow out.

"What just happened?" Coulson asked as Will checked his pulse but didn't find one.

"He's dead." Will replied, checking the man, and taking his phone to see if it would have any useful intel.

"Can you read his mind?" Coulson asked so Will put two fingers to the main's forehead and closed his eyes. He was attempting to read his mind while it was still functioning or at least dig through his memories but couldn't. Whatever killed him also completely fried his brain so there wasn't anything for him to get.

"No. Whatever killed him also fried his brain. I can't get anything." Will replied as they holstered their guns. "Who the hell killed him?"

"Someone we want to find." Coulson stated.

The two returned to the Bus after calling in a SHIELD team to clean up the body. Amador's handler was a former MI6 officer who disappeared years ago and had the same implant surgically installed so he was as much a victim and trapped as she was. Coulson was able to give Amador some peace of mind and while she was taken into SHIELD custody he said he would speak on her behalf at her trial and she might get a second chance. He did so why not her.

May piloted them into the air after that and while the case wasn't solved, they were able to save Amador. Coulson walked into his office because Will said he wanted to speak to him in private which meant it was important. Will walked in a few seconds later and locked the door before using his telekinetic sense to make sure no one was outside eavesdropping.

"Sorry for the secrecy but I want to make sure no one is listening in." Will told him.

"Must be important. Does it pertain to the strange equation Ward saw at the Todorov building?" Coulson asked him.

"It does. Your hunch was right that it's alien. I've seen writing like that before." Will admitted. "What I'm about to tell you is a secret that only Fury knows because it involves the origins for my unique genetic structure and powers. You remember when you brought me in for my analysis and wondered how I changed?"

"I remember. We never did get a solid answer or explanation?" Coulson asked, not remembering his comments about Project Tahiti since that part of his memories were erased.

"We'll you're about to. Thousands of years ago when mankind had started to evolve an alien race known as the Kree arrived on earth. They were locked in a deadly intergalactic conflict with another species and to bolster their efforts they tried their own version of the SSR's Project Rebirth." Will told him.

"Creating super soldiers using humans as test subjects." Coulson muttered.

"Yeah. On all the other planets they tried this it failed but on earth…it got to the point where they needed to be stopped because of how successful they were. The science division went rogue and began expanding the experiments and even began to build cities around the new species they created until they were shut down and left earth behind. The lines and symbols we saw on the chalkboard is the Kree language." Will explained. "I'm not really sure what it means yet but clearly they must have found some kind of Kree relic or artifact if they had it on the board."

"Do you know what it means?" Coulson wondered only for Will to shake his head.

"No, I have no idea but I might be able to figure out."

"So, you're a descendant of one of the enhanced Kree super soldiers." Coulson stated.

"They were called Inhumans. After the Kree left they interbred with regular humans and the gene was passed on. Likely 1 in 100 people could have an Inhuman gene but it can only be triggered by a mutagenic compound called Terrigen. The meteor I was exposed to is Primagen which is a more raw and powerful form of Terrigen which created a stronger terrigenesis. It's why my powers are so much more developed. Fury knows all this to." Will told him. "It was a lot to wrap my head around when I learned this."

"Whoever was behind Amador's mission and her handler must think the Kree language could lead them to something." Coulson deduced.

"It's a fair assumption. Considering Norse Mythology led the Red Skull to the Tesseract, well…we know how that turned out. Still, it could be something Kree related like a weapon or they could have stumbled upon the directions for making alien cupcakes." Will pointed out. "I'll try and figure out."

"You have a source, don't you?" Coulson asked him.

"I do but I can't say who it is." Will admitted. "Coulson, I know this must seem strange but I promise you that my source is not a threat and neither I am. I would give my life to protect this planet and the people on it. I may be Inhuman by blood now but I am human by instinct. I promise I'll tell you the truth one day but until then I have to keep this to myself."

"We all have our secrets." Coulson stated. "I've never known someone who is more dedicated to the protection of this planet then you, Will. I trust you. Now and always."

"Likewise." Will smiled. "And I'm sorry about before. You were right to not give up on her."

"And you were right that I was too close to this." Coulson admitted. "It's a good thing when we have friends who make sure we're on the right path."

"Amen to that." Will took out another piece of salt water taffy and put it in his mouth. "Habit, sorry. I'm gonna get some rest. Have fun with the paperwork."

He smirked as he walked out of Coulson's office and Coulson himself chuckled. While they may have some issues come up between them, they were never gonna stop being friends. The rest of the team relaxed and went about their normal business on the Bus. Will made himself a sandwich in the kitchen and got Goose his dinner before the two sat down and watched TV. Later, Fitz asked Will if he wanted to play Poker and the two had a nice friendly wager going on. Money, pride and if Will won then Fitz had to help him repair his bike for free.

Fitz happily munched on some pretzels as he stared down Will who looked at Goose next to him and both were confused. "I call…and raise a hundred." He put some chips in the center.

"Hmm…" Fitz looked at his cards and sighed. "You know how I know I'm gonna beat you?"

"By overconfidence?" Will wondered.

"You have a tell. A psychological tic that lets me know you're bluffing." Fitz stated.

"I highly doubt that but believe it if you want to." Will said with an amused smirk as he pet Goose on the head.

"Oh, it's true. If I watch you carefully…" Fitz said as he leaned in. "If I watch you carefully…"

"Oh, sorry. Hang on." Skye replied, putting on the backscatter glasses. She was in her bunk and Fitz called her on to help him win the game. "You know if I do this, that not only will I see Will's cards, but I'll see you without any clothes on?"

Fitz quickly lost his confidence and put his cards down. "I fold. You win." He got up and walked away leaving Will confused while Goose walked over and ate his pretzels.

Skye put the glasses on and activated the backscatter, getting a very nice look at Will. All of him. "Hmm…very nice."

End of chapter 12

That's the end of chapter 12. Nothing too serious happened here except for a few missions. Season 1 of Agents of Shield had some filler episodes that were boring but they have helped Will merge with the team and has gone sort of ok. He stills a big mystery to them, one that they will be eager to get information on but that's gonna have to wait. This chapter was originally going to include another mission but I'm gonna save that for next chapter and keep this where it is. With Will on the team, his use of his powers is gonna need to be secretive or else they might get suspicious…well, more suspicious then they already are.

There was some headbutting between Will and Coulson which is bound to happen and likely happens throughout SHIELD but it'll never come up in a vicious or angry manner. Will and Coulson are friends and trust one another so they know that if one of them makes a scene like that then it's for a good reason.

Next time it's Will's time to choose and lead the missions which involve stopping a hacker group from committing a fire sale in DC and then taking down another Rising Tide operation that exposes Skye's secret. Until then.
