Hello everyone. Here is Chapter 16 of the Perfect One. We've changed up the canon timeline a bit with Thor: The Dark World. In the MCU, it happens along with the episodes of Agents of Shield I've done so far in November of 2013 but we're moving it up a bit to August of 2013 because I don't want to make you guys wait forever. We'll find other ways to fill up the timeline.
Will's finishing up of Quantum ends but he's got another mission which is investigating odd energy signatures. That puts him into the path of Dr. Foster which wouldn't be worrisome until Thor comes back. Things are gonna get weird. Enjoy!
The Perfect One: The Aether and the Dark World
Flashback: Asgard, 2012
Asgard, the Realm Eternal and home of the Asgardians was now welcoming back one of its own people, but it wasn't a day for celebration. Loki Odinson, adopted son of the All father had been defeated and captured after his failed invasion and takeover attempt of Earth. Allying himself with a mysterious foreign enemy who gifted him an army of Chitauri aliens, his invasion was defeated at the hands of his brother, Thor Odinson, and a group of humans from Earth. The Avengers, Earth's Mightiest Heroes and they defeated Loki and stopped his reign of terror. Loki was beaten soundly while his army was destroyed. Afterward, Thor retrieved the Tesseract for safekeeping on Asgard and his brother Loki was brought back for punishment.
Loki was chained up and marched at spear-point by a dozen of Asgard's finest soldiers into the throne room of the Asgardian Palace where he was brought before King Odin and Queen Frigga.
"Loki…" Frigga said his name in worry, but Loki kept his usual smirking demeanor.
"Hello, Mother. Have I made you proud?" He wondered.
"Please, don't make this worse." She begged him.
"Define worse." Loki remarked.
"Enough!" Odin spoke. "I will speak to the prisoner alone."
Frigga left after that leaving it just Odin, Loki, and the Asgardian soldiers. Loki took a few steps forward and looked up at his adopted father before he let out a slight chuckle. "I really don't see what all the fuss is about."
"Do you not truly feel the gravity of your crimes? Wherever you go, there is war, ruin, and death." Odin told him.
"I went down to Midgard to rule the people of Earth as a benevolent god. Just like you." Loki corrected him.
"We are not gods. We are born, we live, we die. Just as humans do." Odin reminded him.
"Give or take 5,000 years." Loki pointed out.
"All this because Loki desires a throne."
"It is my birthright." Loki declared.
"YOUR BIRTHRIGHT WAS TO DIE AS A CHILD!" Odin shouted. "Cast out onto a frozen rock. If I had not taken you in, you would not be here now to hate me."
"If I am for the axe, then for mercy's sake, just swing it. It's not that I don't love our little talks, it's just…I don't love them." Loki said.
"Frigga is the only reason you're still alive, and you will never see her again. You will spend the rest of your days in the dungeons." Odin told him.
"And what of Thor? You'll make that witless oaf king while I rot in chains." Loki said in disbelief.
"Thor must strive to undo the damage you have done. He will bring order to the Nine Realms and then, yes…he will be king." Odin declared. Loki just looked at his adopted father in disbelief and hatred as he was dragged away. Thor was not there as he, his friends, and Asgard's armies were busy tending to the chaos brought on by Loki's actions.
All things were good in Asgard, but they would not remain so.
August 2013: Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux, France was a port city on the river Garonne in the southwest of France and was more well known as the world capital of wine with its multiple castles, and vineyards in the hillsides of the Gironde and home to the world's main wine fair, Vinexpo. It's a center in the world of gastronomy and its location made it a key hub for international business, aeronautics, military, and politics. That made it a place where the rich and influential had homes or summer homes. And in this instance, safehouses.
In the outskirts of Bordeaux in the surrounding hillsides of the Gironde where many of the of the vineyards and old castles resided, one in particular belonged to Olivier Joubert, wealthy French financier and the last remaining member of Quantum. Every other member of Quantum had either been apprehended by Interpol or SHIELD and those that weren't were dead. Someone was personally hunting them down so everyone went into hiding like rats. Olivier Joubert had a safehouse outside of Bordeaux which took the appearance of a centuries old French Castle that belonged to an old French Noble family. It belonged to a phony LLC which belonged to a dummy corporation of one of many aliases of Oliver Joubert. It was his in case of emergency safehouse. The old castle had been refurbished and retrofitted with some of the best security and surveillance technology that money could buy. Motion and heat sensors, laser trip wires, 360-degree camera footage on private power, car bomb barricade at the front gate with tear-gas dispensers and riot-control automated gun turrets hidden around the perimeter. All of that was controlled in the bunker of the castle which was actually the renovated basement. It had one entrance which could be deadlocked behind 2 feet of Titanium-cobalt alloy metal resistant to high-heat and explosives, an escape tunnel out of the castle and the entire basement bunker was beneath 20-feet of reinforced concrete and hardened titanium. And if that wasn't enough, there was a small army of private mercenaries, all former military that were there to protect the compound with access to heavy weapons. It was more like a private military base and Olivier Joubert knew he'd be safe there.
How wrong he was because he had no idea who he was dealing with.
The Chief of Security was down in the bunker monitoring the security feeds from the cameras all around the perimeter. The cameras didn't pick up any movement and all the heat and motion sensors picked up were some birds and squirrels. He got up from his chair and walked over to the side where a miniature refrigerator was next to a table that had a coffee pot on it. Also on the table was a microwave and electric burner with a sink in the corner. The Chief of Security walked over to pour himself a cup of coffee. He opened the mini refrigerator to get some cream and poured it into his coffee before adding in some sugar and stirring it all together. With his coffee all made he walked over and sat back down at the monitors to continue his job but there was nothing out of the ordinary.
One of the servants walked out of a room and closed the large, ornate double doors behind him and went back to the kitchen. The room he just left belonged to Olivier Joubert and it was less a room and more like a suite at a fancy hotel. It has a small little living area, a massive closet, other fancy living arrangements including a massive bathroom, and a custom-made King-size bed in the other room. Olivier Joubert was sitting at his personal desk and working on his laptop with a tray of food next to him. It was his dinner which consisted of some very fancy beef in a fancy French sauce with a lovely bottle of wine to accompany it. He grabbed his wine glass and took a sip, relishing in its complex flavor as he looked at his computer monitor which was giving him real-time statistics of his bank accounts and his various business holdings in the name of his various alias. He was watching his fortune rise because a lot of investments and funding into LLCs or phony corporations tied to illegal organizations and/or activities.
He cut a small piece of his beef dish and took a bite when he suddenly froze in place. He dropped his fork and assumed a more stiff, robotic like demeanor. But the most peculiar thing was that his eyes were dilated and had a faint blue glow to them. Olivier Joubert proceeded to quickly set up wire transfers to send all his money to various charity organizations around the world. He was giving away millions of dollars away and he didn't have so much as a tear trickle down the side of his face. Stone-faced and no emotion like a robot as the wire transfers processed the work and within minutes, he was no longer a millionaire. All his illegally gained money now went to various charity groups around the world along with people who actually needed it. Olivier Joubert didn't say anything as his bank accounts read zero before he took the knife from his tray and stabbed himself in the neck. The blue glow in his eyes faded away and he soon began to gasp for air as he spit out blood and proceeded to bleed to death. And just like that the last member of Quantum was dead in a circumstance the local police would classify as suicide but that wasn't the truth.
Miles away from the castle's location at an airstrip near Bordeaux was Will's Quinjet. It was parked in one of the spare hangars set aside for Federal or International Agencies. Will was sitting in one of the chairs in the Quinjet's hangar with his eyes closed and his body was glowing blue. The reason he was glowing was because he was using his power, in this case his telepathy and psychic powers which was also the reason he was inside the Quinjet as the blue glow would have drawn unwanted attention. Depending on the focus, concentration, and strength needed to use his powers his aura could be faint so that no one would see anything or he could glow bright like a lighthouse. Considering he was using his powers to peer into the memories of his target to find out everything they knew about a shadow organization, then mind control them to donate their entire fortune to various charities and people in need around the world before killing himself with a knife to the throat to make it look like a suicide while he was miles away, the glow was noticeable.
With the job done the blue glow disappeared and Will opened his eyes and relaxed. He got up and walked into the cockpit where his bags were so he could take out his laptop. Well, technically it was a SHIELD sanctioned XFR R6420 Rugged Military encryption laptop so not really his. It was the same kind of laptops that military and government organizations use that are top of the line, rugged, and fill all their needs. They were the very square and block-like laptops and the one Will had was a SHIELD variant so it had top of the line encryption installed so he could communicate with SHIELD or access files. He opened up the encrypted communication system and typed in a message.
It read: The last member of Quantum is gone. Mission accomplished.
Short, simple, and kind of followed the cliché of spy messages. He waited for about a minute and got a response back.
It read: Resume normal duties.
He logged off and closed the laptop after that. If this was years ago when Will first started then he would have expected a much longer message, being called back to base or at the very least some gratitude but he wasn't as naïve anymore. Considering everything he's done since he joined SHIELD then taking down a shadow organization by himself was small potatoes at this point. And aside from a few people, SHIELD wasn't big on making huge spectacles with congratulations or gratitude. SHIELD of course rewarded agents for their work with promotions and such but you didn't go around expecting a surprise congratulation party or for a supervisor to make a big show of it. If you did, then you chose the wrong line of work. You did what you did to help people. And for Will after all he's been able to do and has done then it would likely take another alien invasion for him to get a simple pat on the back.
So, it was back to business as usual which meant he would head back and work with Coulson's team. Even though he was off dealing with the remnants of Quantum he kept in contact with Coulson and the others to see what was going on. He got word from Skye that she witnessed her first Index Evaluation which was odder then most. They went to Utah to investigate Hannah Hutchins who was a safety inspector at StatiCorp for their Particle Accelerator when something went wrong and the accelerator exploded, claiming some lives. There were some accidents and SHIELD believed she could have developed telekinetic abilities. Since Will was off dealing with Quantum, Coulson and the others went to do an Index Evaluation which is when things got weird. Ms. Hutchins didn't seem to display the normal kind of telekinetic abilities and since Coulson knew about Will and what he could do he knew what to expect but nothing and her scans showed nothing abnormal. That's when things on the BUS went haywire and it wasn't because of Ms. Hutchins but because of Tobias Ford, one of the engineers at the Particle Accelerator who actually caused the accident in some ridiculous, single-minded, and stupid attempt to spend time with her. The explosion did something and he was being pulled back and forth between worlds and was trying to protect Ms. Hutchins but May was able to convince him to let go so he could be at peace. All in all, a normal day at SHIELD. Skye also mentioned that Fitz got pranked so he was kind of sad that he missed that. (1)
He decided to stock up on some supplies while he had the chance and he would need to refuel the Quinjet, then stop by Avengers Tower to see Bruce for his usual therapy session, and then he would go rejoin Coulson. And this was a rare opportunity for him to do a little exploring in France considering he was still banned from Paris. After the giant mess he made years ago when he first started working with SHIELD and rescued his cousin Kim and her friend from those Albanian human traffickers, killed them along with a huge France-based human smuggling ring and then killed a Middle Eastern Oil Sheik…he was very much banned from visiting Paris ever again. So, he might as well take a chance to explore Bordeaux a little bit and pick up some souvenirs for his friends and family.
He put his stuff away and made sure his pistol was hidden in his jacket before he walked into the back of the Quinjet where his 1970 Titan V-rod motorcycle and 2012 Aston Martin were parked. His motorcycle was finally fixed after a lot of spare time spent on fixing it after the damage of getting run over but Will was still salty about it. Since the Quinjet only had room for one car and a motorcycle he dropped off his 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS at home in Jersey City. He felt kind of bad leaving it there, but he also told his uncle and cousin Kim that she could borrow it whenever she wanted and if not her then he told his friends they could use it so long as they didn't wreck it. He opened up the ramp of the Quinjet and got his keys for his Aston Martin before driving into the city.
He walked around, took in the sights for a bit, picked up some nice souvenirs including several crates of fine wine he would give out. And there was some awesome food as well. The Arcachon Bay oysters and Aquitaine caviar were heavenly, the Puits d'amour were small pastries of deliciousness, and the Bourdeaux-style steak was finger licking good. He also picked up several bottles of Sel de Chateau which was coarse salt soaked in red wine. He'd take several home, drop off some at Avengers Tower but keep one to put on the BUS. The second he was going to make his lunch or dinner on the BUS then he would use it. He walked out a local market with several bags of groceries and baguettes, looking like quite the tourist before he put everything into the car and drove back to the Quinjet. Then it was a just a few hours and he was back in NY.
Manhattan, NY
After a mostly auto-piloted flight that took a couple of hours and allowed Will to catch a quick nap, he entered US airspace. Given his special SHIELD status and being Level-8, his Quinjet was cleared to enter US airspace. He was in the pilot seat of the Quinjet with his headset on and saw the coast of New York City off in the distance along with Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty. He pressed a few buttons on the dashboard which caused the flaps on the wings to withdraw so the turbine fan rotors were visible and they began to power up. With a pull of a lever, the jet engines powered down and the turbine rotors spun up so the Quinjet changed from jet-mode to helicopter-hover mode.
He piloted the Quinjet past the Statue of Liberty and onto the island of Manhattan. The radar on the Quinjet kept him aware of any kind of helicopters or other low-altitude vessels in the area but luckily he was clear to enter and made his way to Avengers Tower which wasn't that hard. Next to the Empire State Building Avengers Tower was the most recognizable and easy to spot building in Manhattan. It probably helped that it was huge, had a giant helicopter/Quinjet launch bay and platform extending out from the top and had the giant A symbol on the front of the building.
"Avengers Tower this is SHIELD Quinjet 5-2-1 requesting permission to land." Will radioed in.
"Quinjet 5-2-1, this is Avengers Tower. You are a go for landing." Jarvis radioed back. "It's good to have you back, Mr. Detmer."
"Good to be back, Jarvis. I'm coming in." Will smiled and piloted the Quinjet over Manhattan and brought it down onto the launch bay platform. He powered down the engine and removed his headset before getting some bags and walked out of the Quinjet where he saw Happy Hogan waiting by the Launch bay entrance. "How's it going, Happy?"
"Oh, you know. Running security for a multi-billion. multi-national tech company and the headquarters for a group of actual superheroes while also getting occasionally ribbed by Tony about my position." Happy replied.
"So, normal?" Will joked as the two shared a quick hug. "Good to see you, Happy. And I think you're doing great in your new job."
"Thank you. Glad someone appreciates me. What brings you to the Tower? I doubt it was just to stock the fridge." Happy remarked, referring to the bags of food that Will had in his possession.
"I just finished a mission in France so before I head back to my regular deployment I thought I'd drop by the tower, drop off some souvenirs, and have another therapy session with Dr. Banner."
"Oh, ok. Wait, I thought you were barred from ever going to France?" Happy pointed out.
"No, not France, just Paris which I frankly don't get. I mean, I took down a very violent and horrendous Albanian human and sex trafficking ring along with uncovering the dirty Paris cops who were allowing them, and then took down an even larger international human trafficking ring and I get banned. They're just jealous that an American upstaged them and did what they never could do or had the balls to take care of and I made them look bad." Will pointed as he and Happy walked into the tower.
"Or it's probably about the string of bodies you left in your little vengeance quest including a Middle eastern oil sheik and his party you massacred on his boat." Happy reminded him.
"Well, maybe there's that which is why I made the trip to Bordeaux worth it. Ate some amazing food, picked up some nice wine with plenty to bring back. One of the benefits of having your own Quinjet with an Internationally recognized SHIELD clearance? No customs declarations." Will handed Happy one of the bags which had a bottle of wine, some fresh baked French bread along with other goodies. Happy could already smell something amazing. "Oh, try the Puits d'amour now before they get cold. They are delicious."
"Thanks. Dr. Banner is in his lab." Happy told him.
"Thanks, Happy." Will walked over to the stairs and headed up two floors to Dr. Banner's lab. "Jarvis, how we doing today?"
"I'm doing fine, Mr. Detmer. It is good to see you again." Jarvis greeted him. Jarvis was plugged into the tower so he was able to monitor and control everything.
"You too, buddy. Where's Tony?" Will wondered.
"Mr. Stark is with Ms. Potts in Las Vegas for a technology conference, but they are scheduled to return tomorrow. I shall let them know you dropped by." Jarvis told him. Will walked into Dr. Banner's lab and saw him working on something.
"Always the gentleman, Jarvis." Will remarked as Dr. Banner saw him arrive so he put his glassed down and saved his work. "Hey, Dr. Banner? How's it going?"
"Going pretty well, actually. I'm beginning to make some more headway on the Extremis serum you gave me." Dr. Banner showed him some of the research he was doing on the small Extremis sample Will saved when he and Tony took down Aldrich Killian and a portion of AIM before the rest went underground. Not even SHIELD had a pure, viable sample of the serum and they wouldn't. Extremis was too dangerous in the wrong hands which is why Dr. Banner was working on changing the serum to avoid the explosive side effects. Considering how Coulson told me that Centipede was already using parts of Extremis then he was right to worry about more getting into the wrong hands. "I think I've narrowed in on a method that will actually completely neutralize the exothermic instability of the Extremis serum. It took some work but a little genetic splicing and nano-tech programming with a combination of your and Steve's unique white cells keeps the Extremis serum viable in a subject and grants the usual super soldier enhancement but in doing so it also removes the exothermic abilities. Removing the explosive instability also removes the possible thermal abilities you said you've seen Extremis-injected soldiers use."
"Still, if it's a zero percent chance of exploding then I'll take it any day. Nicely done, Dr. Banner." Will congratulated him.
"Thank you but it's still not ready. I've tested milliliters of the combination and the results have been promising but I want to make sure it's 100% stable. And even if I do get it ready then I'd only have enough for two doses. Without more Extremis then I can't make more." Dr. Banner told him.
"And I'm ok with that. Besides, I know two people on the team who wouldn't mind the boost." Will said, referring to Clint and Natasha. The world's greatest archer and deadliest spy given super soldier serums. They'd be even more deadly and even Fury would thank them for that. "But there is more serum out there. A group called Centipede has used some Extremis in a hodgepodge mixture of other things to make their own super soldiers. The only problem has been trying to find them. This group has hidden itself very well. Still, good work Dr. Banner."
"Thanks. I actually got the inspiration for my latest version of the variant to the serum from Jen's blood." Bruce said, referring to his cousin. "Her blood and body's unique way of synthesizing gamma radiation still amazes me. It's actually both astonishing yet terrifying."
"And by terrifying you mean if the secret of her blood ever got into the wrong hands then we could end up with a situation like the Abomination only ten times worse." Will surmised. "Well, then it's a good thing I take such precautions and he's still locked up in the Cube."
"I know that you personally run a tight ship, Will and I really appreciate everything you've done for me and my cousin but are you sure that Jen's blood was properly taken care of?" Bruce asked him and got a confident nod in response.
"Absolutely. I put it into the laser shredder myself. After we took a blood sample so we could put a copy of her genetic change into her Index evaluation I personally kept an eye on every single sample of blood we took from her and made sure they were disposed of. And luckily her case agent and SHIELD doctor are people I trust. If they do anything stupid or funny then I'll know." He promised and Bruce could relax a bit without that worry in the back of his head. "How's Jen doing by the way?"
"Great. She had a little bit of cabin fever since we had to stay at the Retreat as you call it but it was nice. Some bonding time and Jen seems to have a full grasp of her powers so…great." Bruce told him but the subtle fluctuation in his voice indicated something.
"You're a little pissed, aren't you?" Will guessed.
"I am." Bruce admitted. "I mean, I have an alter ego I need to wrestle with for the better part of 5 years and she's got nothing. Nothing. She turns green and she's still Jen. And she can turn back whenever she wants."
Will could tell that Bruce was a little resentful about how his cousin had it easier then he did. "Well to be fair, her condition in her transformation is a little different."
"Oh, and get this. Jen doesn't want to be a superhero. After learning about her powers and controlling them she went right back to her regular lawyer job."
"Really? That's a shame. She'd do really well." Will admitted.
"You think so too. Good, I'm calling Jen so you can tell her and convince her to give this superhero thing a try." Bruce pulled out his phone and called her.
"No, wait. Bruce—" Will tried to stop him but was too late.
"Hey, Jen. How's it going?" Bruce spoke with his cousin and completely ignored Will's plea to stop. "I'm doing good. You'll never believe who's with me here right now. My friend, Will. Yeah, the SHIELD Agent who saved our butts. The one you said was drop dead handsome with the nice hair and body carved from marble."
"Marble…" Will muttered as he touched his arm and his stomach. Jen wasn't wrong that he was handsome and his physique did have a certain carved from stone quality.
"Yeah, he's here. Hold on…." Bruce moved his phone away from his mouth. "Will, are you still dating Crystal?"
"Yeah…"
"Ok." Bruce put the phone back to his face. "Yeah, sorry. He's still taken. I know. All the good ones you like always end up taken, gay, or are idiots, I agree. Anyway, he was popping in for a visit and we got to talking about you and he mentioned how he agrees with me that you should try and give the superhero thing a shot. Ok. All right."
Bruce then held out the phone to him and gestured for him to take it so he did and put it to his face. "Hello?"
"Hey, Will. So, you agree with my cousin that I should be a superhero?" Jen asked him.
"Partially. If Bruce had let me finish before he called you then he would have heard me say that yes I do feel you'd do well as a superhero but I also have no problem with your choice not to be one." Will stated, giving Bruce a little bit of stink eye. "Being a superhero isn't something you should feel forced to be. Not everyone with powers should use them. If you want to return to your regular life then that's fine."
"Good. Maybe this will finally get Bruce off my back." Jen pointed out.
"Probably. How are things going otherwise? No problems?"
Meanwhile in Los Angeles…
"No, things are good. I've gone back to my job and no one knows a thing. Jessica Drew is my SHIELD handler and she's great. We hang out all the time. We've become best friends and she's even gotten along with my bestie Nikki which is great." Jen replied. She was currently in her office and sorting through some files for some cases she had working. "But is there any reason I got a whole bunch of new clothes? Jessica said they came from Stark Industries and Bruce didn't have anything to do with it."
"Oh, yeah that was me. And they're not just regular clothes but their made of the same polymer material Bruce's Hulk pants are made of. I still agree with your choice to go back to your regular life but as someone who was once in your position I also know that life can throw you some curveballs. Just in case something should ever happen and you need to go She-Hulk to save your life, you have clothes that fit. They stretch and mold with your body so they'll fit you as Jen or as She-Hulk. And this way you don't have to buy new clothes." Will told her.
"Thanks. Guess it helps to be friends with a billionaire." Jen pointed out.
"That it does. He was the one who made me my suit. It's either a billionaire tech genius or an international spy organization. That's how you get the fancy dubs. I mean, there's no way some regular fashion designer would have the means or even financing to make superhero clothing." Will chuckled, finding that idea stupid and laughable. Jen chuckled a bit before looking right at the audience.
"Funny and I agree with him a bit but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility." She pointed out as she took a sip of coffee before looking back at the audience. "I know, it's been forever since you saw me. It was about…um, six chapter ago in Chapter 10 so quite a while and I didn't even get my own chapter. But I'm not upset I shared it with the X-men. I am glad to see them here, even if it's fictional and happens in the confines of a fanfiction story while Marvel studios figures out the whole story line to get them in but hopefully soon."
She got up and walked out of her office to see her best friend Nikki Garcia sitting at her desk.
"Yup, she's here with me. My best friend Nikki who you all saw in the She-Hulk series. Pug's not here yet because obviously I'm not working at that law firm. It's still too early for all that and when the writer had me introduced he had no idea what was gonna happen in the She-Hulk series so now he's tying it all together but adding in his own elements too." Jennifer took out her phone to show them a selfie of her with Jessica Drew at a bar. "See, there's Jess. One of my new best friends. And she's portrayed by Olivia Wilde. Just for a face claim so you can ignore the whole PR issues with her movie Don't Worry Darling. Hell, the writer didn't know that would happen but he kept me which is nice and I will admit that he does do some excellent fan casting for his stories. The actors portraying the X-men in his story were pretty spot on, including two members of the Hellfire club. Eva Green and Yvonne Strahovski as Black Queen and White Queen. Perfect. Plus, his choice of Stephen Amell from season 1 of Arrow as the lead for this story. Wow. If only I was the romantic pairing. I would She-Hulk up in an instant and we'd likely destroy my apartment and his house in Jersey."
"Jen…" She turned around and saw Will walk into frame. "What are you doing?"
"I'm breaking the fourth wall or whatever you call it when its literature. Is it metafiction?" Jen wondered.
"I think that applies if a story is completely metafictional but in this instance we can keep it to just breaking the fourth wall." He figured.
"Ok, well that's what I do. Jennifer Walters AKA She-Hulk breaks the Fourth Wall. And I'm breaking the Fourth Wall with the audience right now. What are you doing here? You don't break the fourth wall." Jennifer pointed out.
"I don't but I'm the original character created for this story by the writer so I kind of get a pass. Anyway, the writer wanted me to get you to play it down a little bit. Seems like your fourth wall break is getting a little too big." Will told her.
"Yeah, leave that for the professionals." They heard and out popped Deadpool's head from the side. "Hi there."
"Oh god." Will shook his head in disbelief and let out an exhausted sigh.
"I know. I bet some of you were wondering if I would show up here and guess what. I just did, mother fuckers. I'm in this story." Deadpool declared. "I just haven't been introduced yet."
"And you're still haven't so go away, Wade." Will told him. "Don't make me make the writer make you a mute."
"All right but I'll be back. And when I do, it'll be epic." Deadpool stretched and began slowly walking out of frame. "Hey, tall, green, and gorgeous. Wait for me and we'll break all 16 walls together."
"There's only four, Wade." Jen told him and Deadpool finally left. Once he was gone, she looked at the audience. "Just FYI, I broke the fourth wall way before he was even a thing. Just to clarify."
"Ok, this fourth wall break is getting way out of hand. Can we get back to the story?" Will asked and Jen nodded.
[Freeze-frame followed up by a quick rewind]
Back in New York…
"Thanks again for the clothes, Will and for agreeing with my decision." Jen told him.
"No problem. Keep fighting for the little guy and if something does come up let Bruce or me know." He told her. "And for the record, I appreciate the marble comment."
"Ok, I've embarrassed myself enough for the day. Bye."
Jen hung up after that so Will handed Bruce his phone back. "So, ready for another therapy session?"
Bruce nodded and the two sat down for another telepathy induced mind-melding session between Dr. Banner and the Hulk. The session lasted for about an hour and it ended on a positive note like they usually do. The Hulk was doing good and Will could have sworn that he seemed to be getting smarter. He still spoke like a four year old with bad grammar but it was getting better. When he was finished he bid Dr. Banner goodbye and headed to his Quinjet. He walked down the stairs when one of the smart monitors on the wall beeped.
"Forgive the interruption, Mr. Detmer but I've detected something I believe would interest you." Jarvis brought up some data from the STARK satellites and he wasn't sure what to make of it but there were some odd energy readings occurring over the UK.
"Jarvis, what am I looking at?" Will asked.
"I'm not entirely sure, sir but The STARK Industries satellites have detected odd energy occurrences and fluctuations in the area surrounding London. It's energy doesn't match any known signature in the STARK Industries or the SHIELD database." Jarvis told him. "It may be nothing sir but given your luck I'd wager that this matter be investigated."
"Your right, Jarvis. Send all the data you have to EDI and keep a close eye on the energy readings in the area. And the second Tony gets back let him know about this." Will said before heading to his Quinjet and setting a course for London.
Line Break xxxxx
London, United Kingdom
On the flight to London, Will connected to the STARK Industries satellite system to monitor the feeds Jarvis found and added on the SHIELD satellites over the area and any nearby specialized labs or facilities with advance sensor systems to try and figure out exactly what was going on. He was smart for sure but he wasn't a theoretical physicist or astrophysicist so he might as well be trying to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics with zero help. Thankfully he had EDI and Jarvis.
The SHIELD satellites picked up the same odd energy readings that the STARK satellites did but it wasn't able to identify a match for it in the system since the readings were all over the place. Whatever energy the satellites were picking up was still weak but that didn't mean it wouldn't build. The sensors from nearby labs helped narrow the location to London so once on the ground Will would go and do some investigating. He hoped it was nothing serious, but if it was then he couldn't take the chance of not doing something when he had the opportunity. Will alerted SHIELD that he would be taking point on the energy buildup but that the local SHIELD forces should monitor the situation and be prepared for any kind of escalation including an evacuation. Better to operate on the side of caution.
EDI and Jarvis did manage to give Will something as the energy they were analyzing seemed to share similar energy readings to the ones that Dr. Jane Foster and Dr. Erik Selvig identified in New Mexico that turned out to be the Bifrost bridge from Asgard. It's possible that whatever was going on either involved Asgard or was part of another alien race that had similar technology. Either way, that gave him a starting point and SHIELD did have it on record that Dr. Selvig was in London so that couldn't be a coincidence.
"EDI, look up the local address for Dr. Selvig in London." Will told her as he readied his gear. "If anyone can help us figure out what's going on then it's him."
"That might be a bit difficult." EDI remarked. Will's phone pinged so he took it out to see a local British newscast.
"I'm here at Stonehenge for what has been an interesting unfolding of events today. The police were called to the scene shortly after 11 AM this morning after a seemingly harmless rambler approached the area, then, decided to strip naked and effectively terrorize tourists there with scientific equipment whilst shouting that he was trying to save them." The news reporter said as footage showed a naked and visibly disturbed Erik Selvig rushing around Stonehenge while carrying scientific instruments. Tourists and bystanders looked on in confusion and astonishment as the local police tried to stop him peacefully. Thankfully they did and he was put into a police car with a spare police jacket to cover his modesty. "The man, later identified as noted astrophysicist Dr. Erik Selvig has been called in for questioning by the police."
Will was just glad that the news broadcast was able to censor Dr. Selvig because one of the downsides of being a telepath and powerful psychic is that you don't have the luxury of forgetting things. He didn't need that mental image stuck in his brain.
"Ok, so this does throw a wrench in things. Clearly whatever the Scepter did to Dr. Selvig had some…lasting side effects but Barton never had this kind of reaction." Will pointed out.
"There could be other compounding factors that led to Dr. Selvig's mental deterioration. Physicists do have a habit of losing their mental facilities at a higher rate than normal people and the effects of the Scepter on his mind might have aided in this effort." EDI informed him.
"Ok but I still don't believe Dr. Selvig's presence in London at the same time as these energy readings is just a coincidence. His mind may be broken but it could still be trying to tell us something. EDI, figure out where they took Dr. Selvig and get me landing clearance at the nearest airport." Will said.
"Roger that. ETA: one hour." EDI informed him.
London Psychiatric Ward: London, England
Will walked into the Psychiatric Ward and made his way to the front desk to speak to the officer there.
"Can I help you?" The officer asked.
"Is Dr. Eric Selvig here?" Will questioned, showing him his SHIELD Badge. The officer took it to double-check his credentials and when they came back as authentic and cleared he handed it back.
"He's in the recreational area. We have him under a 48-hour psychiatric hold." The officer told him.
"I'd like to see him." Will said so the officer handed him the check-in list.
"Can I ask what this is about?" The officer wondered as Will wrote his name down.
"Sorry, that's classified. I just need a moment of his time."
"Not sure how much help he's gonna be but ok. Please check in your weapons and phone." The officer told him and Will nodded. He removed the holster hooked onto the back of his belt holding his HK P30L handgun and ejected the magazine and bullet in the chamber, before putting them all into the case the officer brought over. He then removed his spare Glock 17 and his ankle holster along with the spare ammo clips on his waist, ankle, and his pockets before putting them together. He then removed his Microtech Combat Troodon OTF 3.8" knife from his belt and placed it with everything else. "Dear lord."
"Yeah, I know." Will admitted as he handed him his phone. The officer handed him a visitor ID badge and buzzed him through the security door.
Will took a walk through the building and arrived at the recreational area for the non-violent and low security patients. There were nurses and orderlies around with two security guards but they were there just incase something happened. The patients just sat around at tables playing cards, board games, drawing, painting, or listening to music and watching TV. Will showed the guards his ID and they left him through. Some of the patients waved at him so he smiled and waved back when he saw someone at the chalkboard writing things down. Considering that everything being written down looked scientific meant it was Selvig.
"Dr. Selvig?" Will called out but the man kept writing so he slowly walked up to him to get closer. "Dr. Eric Selvig, do you have a moment of time?"
"Sorry, far too busy." Selvig answered and kept writing things down.
"Yeah, I can see that." Will looked at him and he did seem a little manic but decided to try and get him to calm down. "Dr. Selvig, I'm here in London investigating some odd energy signatures I intercepted and I could use some help. I don't think you being here was just a coincidence."
"It's not. It's important. And those energy signatures you're investigating are what I'm researching. It's the return of the Convergence between our planet and other planets." Dr. Selvig said as Will looked at the board and saw a crude diagram of earth with eight other planets nearby that had weird names but did see Asgard.
"What does this Convergence have to do with Asgard?" Will questioned so Dr. Selvig turned around to look at him.
"You know of Asgard?" Selvig questioned him.
"No, but I know Thor. You probably don't remember me but I think you'll remember this." Will tapped Dr. Selvig on the head with two fingers and used his telepathy to show him a memory.
Flashback…
Will, in his Aegis gear was flying over Manhattan to STARK tower where he saw Dr. Selvig and the Tesseract device all powered up. "Dr. Selvig, shut the device down! Loki's controlling you! You don't know what you're doing!" Aegis pleaded as he hovered in the air by the tower.
"It's too late. It can't stop now. She wants to show us something! A new universe." Selvig said, still under the mind control from Loki but also just sounding crazy.
"Ok, he's officially lost it." Aegis raised his hand and attempted to crush the device with his telekinesis but a blue barrier flared up around the device and released a shockwave that knocked him back and knocked out Dr. Selvig.
End of Flashback…
Dr. Selvig released a sharp gasp for air after the little flashback moment he just had. He wasn't expecting it but he did now know that the man was with SHIELD, the Avengers and the one who inadvertently freed him from Loki's mind control. "It's you…"
"Yeah, it's me but let's keep that between us." Will told him.
"Of course. I never did get to thank you for New York. Thank you." Eric shook his hand rather enthusiastically. "It's actually good you're here. If you're investigating the odd energy signatures of the Convergence then perhaps I'm not crazy."
"You're not crazy. I checked as much when I showed you that memory. Sure, your neurons are rapid and there's a lot of clutter but that's likely due to the cocktails of anti-psychotic drugs you were prescribed. Hang on." Will touched his forehead again and used his psychic powers to help clear the clutter in Selvig's brain and give him some clarity. "There. How's that feel?"
"Much better. Nothing more reassuring then finding out you're not really crazy." Eric said. "You couldn't have come at a better time."
"Guess my luck is turning around. So, what exactly are these energy readings occurring around London? Some of them share similar energy readings you and Dr. Foster discovered in New Mexico that led to Thor's arrival." Will told him.
"Because they are similar. It's not the Bifrost bridge but a phenomenon that shares similar properties to that of the Bifrost. It's known as the Convergence, or at least that's what my research has told me it is called. Cryptic translations from old English, Latin, and Norse ruins all share the same thing that this event has happened before." Selvig motioned to his chalkboard and began to instruct Will on what exactly was going on. He first started off with the diagram he drew of Earth, Asgard and the seven other planets that made up the Nine realms of Yggdrasil. "The universe, as we know it, rotates on a 5,000 year cycle. That also effects the Nine Realms of Asgard and of Yggdrasil, or the cosmic nebula that involves their planet and its connection to 8 others, including earth.
"Right. That's one of the things our Norse Mythology got right. Asgard, Midgard, Jotunheim, Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, Nidavellir, Niflheim, Muspelheim, and Alfheim." Will counted off and Dr. Selvig was impressed he knew that. "When Thor arrived, SHIELD consulted with Norse Mythology experts and the stories left behind of the Nine Realms and Yggdrasil happen to leave names behind too. Earth is Midgard and it's connected to the others, cosmically, by Yggdrasil, or whatever the scientific equivalent is, which is why the Asgardians came here years ago. Ok, got that."
"Exactly. These 9 planets are connected, cosmically, by Yggdrasil but the Asgardians have ways to get from one to the other quickly using their Bifrost bridge. Otherwise, it would take days or months to travel between them with space ships since they are so vastly separated from one another in different parts of the universe. But the Convergence is a special unique cosmic alignment that had our world align with theirs. Here. Imagine that…that this is our world." Selvig grabbed two shoes to provide some visual aid. "Oh, thank you. And this is another world. Normally, they're separate. Separated by millions of miles but during this Alignment, everything is connected. All 9 realms are passing through each other and gravity, light, and even matter is crashing from one world to the other." Selvig smashed the two shoes into one another to put it into perspective.
"So, that's what causing the weird energy readings. The Convergence is beginning." Will said and Selvig nodded.
"Exactly. At first the readings are miniscule but coming up to the point and time of the full alignment the readings and energy will get stronger. This happened thousands of years ago and the ancient people made use of the phenomena. The Mayans, Egyptians, and Chinese used it to help build their greatest wonders but if this happens to us now the results would be catastrophic. My gravimetric spikes can stabilize the focal point of the Convergence. This time, our world and all the other worlds would just pass us by. It's beautiful. It's simple. Any questions?" Selvig asked like he just gave a lecture only it wasn't to a room of grad students but to a room of low-risk psychiatric patients and an Avenger.
"Uh, yeah. Can I get my shoe back please?" An old man asked. He was wearing glasses and had a nice mustache.
"Oh. Sorry." Will took the shoe from Selvig and handed it back.
"Thank you, true believer." The old man thanked him and Will smiled before walking back over to Selvig to look at his chalkboard of calculations.
"Dr. Selvig, how much time do we have before the alignment begins?" Will asked him.
"A few days, maybe." Selvig answered.
"Well, that gives us a narrow window." Will remarked. Dr. Selvig continued explaining everything and Will did his best to absorb it. He wasn't insane and if his math was right then this would prevent a lot of damage. Making some extra gravimetric spikes and giving Dr. Selvig some additional resources to finish his work would make sure that London didn't erupt into a panic.
About an hour later one of the police officers walked over to them. "Agent Detmer?" He called out so Will raised his hand. "Sorry to disturb you but this alarm has been going off repeatedly. It seemed important."
He handed Will his phone and what was thought to be an alarm was actually a SHIELD alert. A call came over the London Police radio with someone reporting a missing person's report on a Dr. Jane Foster. The reason for the SHIELD alert was because she was a SHIELD protected scientist and if Coulson was right then she and Thor were close so they looked after her incase someone happened which it just did. "Dr. Selvig, keep thinking and doing your work. I'm gonna have a SHIELD agent come get you and take you to our facility in London. Make as many of your gravity spikes things and figure out where the epicenter the Convergence is so we're prepared."
"I'm on it." Selvig assured him as Will left the psychiatric ward after getting his things back from the security desk. He made a call to the SHIELD station in London to be prepared and to get an agent to come pick up Dr. Selvig so he could go investigate the missing person's report on Dr. Foster.
A short drive and 20 minutes sitting in London traffic later…
Will arrived at an old, abandoned warehouse yard littered with old trucks, cars, empty warehouses, and cargo containers scattered around. He saw some police cars parked around with officers standing around. One of the officers was checking a tiny red sedan while a man stood next to it, probably the driver. He saw another officer talking to a woman wearing a jacket and red beanie. He parked his Aston Martin and then opened his trunk where he looked at two backpacks. One had his Aegis suit while the other had his SHIELD Tactical gear. Considering this could be something serious if Dr. Foster was missing he grabbed the backpack with his Aegis suit. He locked his trunk and walked over to the perimeter where some London Police Officers walked over to stop him.
"Sorry, sir but this is private property. I'm gonna have to ask you to get back into your car." The officer told him so Will just showed him his badge. "Sorry, sir."
"At ease. What's going on?" Will asked.
"We received a call about a missing person's report here so we responded and found these two. This is private property and they were trespassing here without authorization which is what we were doing when you arrived. No signs of any other vehicles or personnel in the area. The two people here are associates of Dr. Foster. One Ian Boothby and the other is an American miss…" The officer took out his notepad to get the name of the American woman talking to one of his officers about what happened when Will looked over and could have sworn she looked familiar.
"I got it." He walked over to the woman and officer to get a better look which is when he saw her face. "Darcy?"
The woman turned around to see who called her name and wasn't expecting who she saw. "Will?"
There was a brief moment of awkward pause as Dary and Will looked at each other in bewilderment. Neither of them were expecting to see each other again, especially in this instance or circumstance. The reason the two knew each other by name was because the two had actually dated. When Will was in his junior year of college he took part in a program for his psychology department co-sponsored by Culver University. Students transferred there for a year for their degree taking classes and specialized courses with Culver University's Psychology department which was one of the best in the country. It was there that he met Darcy who was working on her major in Political Science. The two got along and dated for about a year and even tried to make it work for long distance before time and distance ultimately had them separate but on amicable terms. This was the first time they had seen each other since then.
"What are you doing here? / What are you doing here?" they both said at the same time.
"I asked you first. / I asked you first." They did it again and before they could do it a first time Darcy took the initiative.
"Will, what are you doing here?" She asked him.
"I'm working. What about you?" He asked her.
"Same." She answered.
"So, you're the Darcy Lewis who worked with Dr. Foster and Dr. Selvig. I knew the name sounded familiar but I thought it was another Darcy Lewis." Will figured.
"Oh, really. There's another Darcy Lewis out here?" Darcy asked in disbelief with full sarcasm in her tone.
"Well excuse me for making that assumption. Last I remember you were a poli sci major working on getting her doctorate in the major, not astrophysics." Will pointed out. "What happened?"
"I needed an internship for credit and the one with Jane was the only one available. And by that I mean the others were already taken. But what are you doing here? Are you a cop?" She questioned so he showed her the front part of his SHIELD badge which had the logo. "You're a SHIELD Agent? How the hell did that happen?"
"A lot happened since we've last seen each other." He admitted.
"Clearly. Last I remembered was you being a psychology and mechanical engineering major. How did you go from that to working for a scary government organization that deals with aliens and the Avengers?" Darcy asked.
"Just lucky I guess. Some thing happened a few years ago and well…my life didn't go the way either of us expected it to go." He said. "So, what happened here exactly? What happened to Dr. Foster?"
"I don't know. One minute she was here and then the next she was gone. My intern and I looked all over the place for her but nothing. I called her phone but no response." Darcy explained.
"Intern?" Will looked over at the car and saw the guy talking to the officer about the equipment in the trunk. "He's Dr. Foster's intern?"
"No, he's my intern." Darcy corrected.
"So, the intern also gets an intern? How much is Dr. Foster paying you guys?" Will muttered.
"Nothing, actually. I don't get paid anything other then in worry and dealing with the cops and SHIELD." Darcy said and he could tell that she was anxious.
"Darcy, relax. I'm sure Dr. Foster is fine and we'll find her." He promised. "So, what were you three doing here in the first place?"
"I was here doing work for Erik. Our friend Erik kind of went crazy and he was looking into some weird energy readings. I haven't seen him in days which is why I went to see Jane. I interrupted her date with a reasonably handsome guy and we followed whatever was going on to here. Next thing I know, we meet three British kids and they show us a floating truck and some kind of weird, spooky wormhole thing going on." Darcy rambled on, oversimplifying things a bit but Will got the gist of it.
"I get it." He motioned her to stop. "First off, Erik or Dr. Selvig is fine. I found him after he accidently terrorized some English Tourists at Stonehenge but the reason for that was because of what you stumbled onto. It's some kind of universal alignment that's creating a bunch of weird anomalies. Wormholes, gravity fluctuations like that so my best guess is that Dr. Foster stumbled into one."
"Well then how do we get her back?" She asked as Will took out his phone.
"First things first is we've got to make sure no one else gets lost." He pressed a button and was connected to the SHIELD London Office. "This is Agent William Detmer, Serial number: NE616IN. I need a clean and containment crew at my current location, full eclipse protocol. I need the entire area cordoned off with a two mile radius and full media blackout. Possible Alpha-level situation."
"Roger that. Field units are being dispatched as we speak." The operator replied so he hung up when he noticed the look Darcy was giving him. He recognized it both as intrigue mixed with amazement.
"What?" He asked her.
"Nothing. Just…authority looks good on you." She admitted and he chuckled. "And the fact that you're not wearing a cheap three-piece suit and walking around like you own the place is also nice too."
"Eh, I'm not that kind of person." He replied when he noticed her beanie. "I see you're still wearing the beanie I got you."
"What? No. This is just a beanie that looks like the one you bought me. I didn't keep it." Darcy said, trying to sound like she wasn't lying which she was. She just didn't want to give her ex the satisfaction that he saw her still wearing a gift he got her so it looked like she still had feelings for him. Whether or not she did was up for debate but she couldn't lie to herself that she hated that Will looked so much better now. "Different beanie."
"Fair enough." Will relented when he noticed her looking at him. "Something else you need to say?"
"It's just…how is it fair you got better looking after we broke up?" She pointed out and he couldn't help but chuckle. "I mean, when you meet your ex again you want to see that they're doing bad but here you are in a crazy, incredible job as a high-ranking SHIELD agent looking even more muscly and taller when you shouldn't be doing so well."
"That's fair enough but you're working for two great scientists so there's that. Besides, you do look great." He assured her and Darcy smirked.
"Yeah, I know." She agreed. Will shook his head in disbelief but couldn't help but chuckle. Darcy was still Darcy.
"Can you show me the equipment you have here?" He asked.
Darcy took him over to the car so he could begin going through the various scientific instruments they had. Jane had the mobile scanner with her when she was taken but they had the larger thing that first picked up the weird energy signatures. The one that Darcy said looked like a microwave. He managed to get it working and the energy signatures it picked up that brought Dr. Foster here was the same kind of energy readings the SHIELD and STARK Industries satellites picked up only much more concentrated and powerful. He wasn't the expert on gravitational anomalies or wormholes but if Dr. Selvig's theory was right about the Convergence then it's possible that this area would be a focal point during the alignment. That was a good thing as it further proved Dr. Selvig's research but also bad. If he was right and wormholes were popping up that connected all the Nine realms then Jane would be anywhere so finding her would be a headache. It would be like looking for a needle in a coalmine filled with hay. And to add to the bad news, the weather was turning bad with a storm coming in.
Some of the SHIELD Field agents arrived and began securing the perimeter. They spoke with the police about the situation and were taking over with Will in command. Will looked over the data of another piece of equipment with Darcy still hanging around. She wasn't exactly sure what to do but she assured her intern that they weren't going to jail.
"So…being a SHIELD agent? That must be crazy." Darcy commented.
"It has its crazy moments for sure. Crazy schedules, lots of travel, and things I'm not at liberty to say." He told her. He took out another piece of equipment from her car and connected his phone to it while Darcy just walked around and watched.
"I get it. I get it. I've dealt with SHIELD before…in New Mexico. Where I met Thor." Darcy pointed out, trying to make herself seem a little better to her ex and also rub it in his face.
"I know. Read the report. Did you really taser him?" He wondered.
"That I did." Darcy said with pride.
"That must have been funny." Will joked.
"Yes, it was." Darcy assured him. She leaned against her car and clicked her tongue against her teeth while Will kept working. "So…you must be a pretty big shot with SHIELD if those other agents listen to you. Some of them are a lot older."
"I've distinguished myself with excellent service." He told her, not able to say anything more than just being vague. "Granted my recruitment to SHIELD wasn't the same as theirs."
"Oh, a sort of special recruit kind of thing. Nice." Darcy admitted.
"Everything ok, Darcy?" He wondered.
"I'm fine. Just catching up with my ex. My buddy." She playfully punched him on the arm. "I mean, we can call ourselves buddies, right?"
"I guess so." He told her.
"Ok then, buddy. I'm just…taking this all in. You being a SHIELD agent and seeing you again is taking me on a trip down memory lane." She admitted and he shrugged his shoulders. "Some great memories we had in college."
"A simpler time, that's for sure." He agreed.
"And one memory I keep coming back to is when I visited you in Jersey City in August right after you finished your year at Culver university. I came for vacation. The day we had at the beach…your parents were gone for the weekend…we had the whole house to ourselves…" Darcy hinted and Will knew what she was referring to. "The all-nighter that didn't involve studying…that led into the early morning. One of the best nights of my life."
Will chuckled a bit at Darcy bringing up that night, likely in a way to tease and get a rise out of him. So, he kept his calm. "That is a night I remember as well. Something I don't think I'd forget." He told her before walking over to share his findings with one of the SHIELD techs. Darcy watched him leave and let out a sigh.
"Dammit. Why did he have to get hotter?" She groaned and dropped her head against the car.
Will brought the data to the SHIELD techs and they began going over the data. The more they understood about this anomaly and what Dr. Foster was doing the better chance they had at finding her.
"Jane!"
Will heard Darcy shout so he looked over and saw her running over to Dr. Foster who walked out of the warehouse. He wasn't expecting her to suddenly reappear but then again if this Convergence was going on around all Nine realms then she might have found another portal that brought her back. Stroke of luck.
"Tell me you didn't call the police." Jane pleaded.
"What was I supposed to do?"
"Not call the police."
"I was freaking out." Darcy told her as Will walked over.
"If I could interject here for a minute?" He wondered but the two women just ignored him. That's when he heard a distant rumble of thunder and it started to rain.
"You call the cops, they call the Feds. Next thing you know, we have SHIELD crawling all over Area 51-ing the place."
"Actually, about SHIELD…" Will tried to speak but Dr. Foster kept going.
"We had a stable gravitational anomaly."
"Dr. Foster?" He asked again to get her attention.
"We had unimpeded access and our only competition was ten years old!" Jane shouted at Darcy.
"Jane!" Darcy shouted her name to get her to stop. "You've been gone for five hours."
"What?" Jane asked in disbelief.
"It's true, Dr. Foster." Will said, finally getting her attention. "Hi. Will Detmer, SHIELD agent. I came as soon as Darcy put in the call that you went missing. Are you all right? Nothing injured or broken?"
"No, I'm fine." Jane assured him.
"Are you sure? You've been gone for a while who knows where. Maybe we should get you looked at." Will suggested.
"I'm fine. The last thing I need you is to take my work and label it as classified so you can steal all my research." Jane pointed out.
"I understand your initial interaction with SHIELD wasn't that great but that's not the purpose of why I came here. I came because you were reported as missing and I've assured Darcy that you will be able to keep all your research." Will promised.
"And you can trust him. We got it in writing too. If not then I'll show him my taser that I used on Thor." Darcy promised and Will just chuckled.
"Good luck with that." He replied.
Jane was a little confused as to what was going on. He didn't expect Darcy to get some familiar and comfortable with a SHIELD agent she just met hours ago. Something else was going on. "Do you two know each other?" Jane wondered.
"We used to date. / We used to date." Will and Darcy said at the same time.
"You dated a SHIELD agent?" Jane asked in disbelief.
"This was back in college before I even met you and Dr. Selvig. And he wasn't a SHIELD agent in training then." Darcy promised.
"The SHIELD recruitment didn't come until later, after which Darcy and I had broken up at that point. And I realize I'm trailing off so maybe we can get back to the matter at hand, Dr. Foster? Are you sure you're ok because you've been gods knows where…" Will trailed off because he noticed something odd. He looked up and around to see it was raining. Dr. Foster and Darcy could see that as well but the odd part was that the three of them were completely dry. It was like it wasn't raining around them and Will would chalk that up to a forcefield but he wasn't making one.
"That's weird." Darcy said as they looked around when something caught Dr. Foster's eye. Standing in the distance by an old shipping container was Thor Odinson, God of Thunder, Prince of Asgard, Protector of Midgard, and member of the Avengers. He was standing there adorned in his Asgardian armor with his flowing red cape but no winged helmet. What he did have was his trusty hammer Mjølnir in his hand. When she saw him she pushed the scanner into Darcy's hand and rushed over. When she did, the rain free area went with her so once she was gone Darcy and Will got rained on. "Typical. This sucks."
"Yeah. It does." Will agreed.
Thor walked over and was relieved to see Jane was alive and well. "Jane, are you all right?" Thor asked only for Jane to suddenly slap him across the face which caught him by surprise.
"Sorry. I just needed to make sure that you were real. It's been a very strange day." Jane apologized.
"No, I'm am. Jane what—" Thor was cut off because Jane slapped him again.
"Where were you?" She asked him.
"Where were you? Heimdall cannot see you." Thor told her.
"I was right here where you left me. I was waiting, and then I was crying and then I went out looking for you. You said you were coming back." Jane's voice was mixed with both anger and had a hint of sadness in it.
"I know. I know, but the Bifrost was destroyed. The Nine Realms erupted into chaos. Wars were raging, marauders were pillaging. I had to put an end to the slaughter." Thor explained.
"Well…as excuses go, it's not terrible." She relented. "But I saw you on TV. You were in New York!"
"Jane, I fought to protect you from the dangers of my world but I was wrong. I was wrong. I was a fool." He reached up and touched her face with his hand, his fingers curling into her hair. "But I believe that fate brought us together. Jane, I don't know where you were or what happened, but I do know this…"
"What?"
"I know…"
"You do?"
"Do what?"
"What?"
The two leaned in like they were the main characters in a romance movie with the raining coming down only adding to the atmosphere.
"Excuse me. I hate to rain on your beautiful moment…" They heard as Will and Darcy walked over. Darcy was holding her jacket over her head to cover herself from the rain while Will just didn't care. "But do you think you could stop with the actual rain?"
"Oh, sorry." Thor looked up at the sky and a few seconds later the rain came to a sudden stop.
"Thank you." Will replied, shaking his hair dry of some water.
"We're kind of in the middle of something here." Dr. Foster told Will and Darcy.
"And I'm more than happy for you two to continue that but can we do that somewhere else? Preferably somewhere where we don't run into a problem of accidently ending up walking into a wormhole." He suggested and they all liked that idea. "That way we can go over all the data that Dr. Foster and Dr. Selvig have acquired. You two can have your moment then."
"That sounds like a fine idea." Thor agreed.
"All right. Besides, I could use a shower and…" Jane turned around to see some SHIELD agents going through all the equipment from her car. "Hey, be careful with those! Those are delicate scientific instruments!"
She rushed over to stop them from inadvertently doing something that would either cost her valuable data or break something. Will, Thor, and Darcy looked at her rush over before the latter looked at Thor and smiled. "Look at you, still all muscly and everything." Darcy poked his armor a few times. "How's space?"
"Space is fine." Thor replied before looking at Will. "It's good to see you again, Will."
"You too, Thor." He replied as the two shook hands.
"You two know each other?" Darcy questioned.
"We do." Will answered but not saying how. "How's Asgard?"
"Fine. Things are settling in the Nine Realms after the chaos and destruction Loki caused." Thor replied. "I'm just glad Jane is all right."
"What did you mean when you said that Heimdall couldn't see her? Who is Heimdall and what does that—" Will stopped as he felt his danger sense go off. He turned and saw Dr. Foster speaking with one of the SHIELD agents and asked her to come over so they could have their medic give her a quick checkup. He reached out and grabbed her arm when a strong blast of red and black energy erupted around her. It sent everyone nearby flying and washed over the area like a wave. The cops and SHIELD agents were knocked to the ground or hit cars while Will and Thor covered Darcy. The trio were thankfully far away enough that the energy didn't hit them with the same amount of force.
"Jane!" Thor screamed, running over to her as she was laying on the ground. Will rushed over with him and they helped her back up. "Are you all right?"
"What just happened?" She wondered.
Neither Will nor Thor could answer as one of the younger cops decided to approach them with his baton out like they were armed criminals. He wasn't the only one as some other London Police took out their tasers. "Place your hands on your heads! Step back!"
"Stand down, officers! NOW!" Will ordered and they backed off. "Thor, what was that?"
"I don't know but she is unwell. Hold onto me." Thor pulled Jane close.
"What are you doing?" Jane asked as Thor looked up at the sky.
Will wondered what he was doing when he noticed some a symbol being burned into the ground beneath Thor and Jane but also him since he was close enough. "Uh, Thor—" Will was cut off as the Bifrost descended from the sky and surrounding them with its bright lights. A few seconds later they were gone and all that was left was a burning Asgardian Glyph in the pavement. Will felt himself being pulled somewhere at incredible speed and could see passing solar systems and cosmic bodies along with the blinding beautiful lights of the Asgardian rainbow bridge. He wasn't sure what this felt like it but it sure wasn't like flying. He could feel them getting closer to wherever they were going so he began to move which ended up being a mistake as he was flung out of the Bifrost. The blinding lights of the bridge disappeared and saw a man in armor but didn't get a good look since he was sent flying and landed face first onto the metal ground. "Ow…"
Thor and Jane stumbled out of the Bifrost together intime to see an Asgardian wearing golden armor pull a sword from a pedestal which shut the bridge down. Jane looked around at the place in amazement and had the biggest smile on her face. "We have to do that again. Hi."
The Asgardian looked at her with his glowing orange eyes. "Welcome to Asgard."
"Is it everything you imagined?" Thor asked Jane.
"More so." She admitted.
"You should feel honored. You and your compatriot are the only mortals to ever see Asgard." Heimdall told her.
"Compatriot?" Thor was confused so Heimdall pointed to the side. There they saw Will push his head off the ground and cracked his neck. He rolled over and did a kip-up to get back to his feet.
"That stung. For future notice, a little warning before you do that again." Will told Thor when he noticed Heimdall. "Hi."

Asgard, the Realm Eternal
Being the only two humans who have likely ever step foot into Asgard was as incredible and unbelievable for Will and Jane as it was for the Asgardians they met. They were introduced to Heimdall, Gatekeeper of Asgard and guardian of the Bifrost before Thor took them over the rainbow bridge which wasn't really made of rainbows but more a crystal-like substance that glowed with colors from the rainbow. So, guess Norse Mythology got something wrong but the bridge did give them a good look at the city. The city shined like it was made of gold, a jewel under the gaze of a sun. The light reflected onto buildings, droplets from waterfalls glistened like diamonds, rivers shone like mirrors through the green hills and golden towers glistened like stars. They could see countless islands connected with golden bridges, each more opulent then the last. The Bifrost bridge took them straight to the royal palace with huge, massive towers likely taller then anything on earth and there were many of them. The more they looked around the more Will could see how a lot of things in Asgardian culture likely influenced parts of Earth thousands of years ago. From the architecture of buildings, the form of ships on the water to the clothing, weapons, and armor worn by the Asgardians. Only thousands of years later Asgard was more than happy to keep their aesthetic while things on earth had changed a lot. He wasn't able to see any regular Asgardian civilians going about their daily lives since the bridge connected right to the palace so he instead saw a group of guards at the gate. He thought there might be a problem since humans on Asgard had likely never happened or was even allowed but Thor just gave a nods to the guards and they stood at attention while he passed.
"Follow me." Thor led them into a corridor through the palace. They passed several Asgardians along the way to wherever they were going who stepped to the side in reverence to Prince Thor but their attention lingered on Will and Jane. This was likely the first time they had ever seen humans in Asgard. The fact that Thor himself was escorting them was intriguing and everyone began whispering and wondering why they were here. Will couldn't make out all of what they were saying but he did hear lover so they must have thought that Jane was Thor's earth love. Everything else was just speculation and gossip was universal.
They eventually arrived at a room which was an odd combination of a Viking home you'd see on TV or in movies mixed with high-tech alien equipment. He had no idea what any of it was but Thor brought them here for a reason, likely an infirmary. Thor spoke with one of the healers who then had the others bring Jane over to a table. She laid down and suddenly whatever machine she was on enveloped her in some kind of orange energy field. The healers got to work while Will stood over to the side with Thor.
"What's that?" Jane asked, reaching her hand up to touch the orange energy hologram.
"Be still." One of the healers told her as they got to work. The energy field then made a model of Jane's body and showed a cloud of red particles moving around inside her.
"What is that?" Will asked.
"It is definitely not of earth. What is it?" Thor asked the healer.
"We do not know. But she will not survive the amount of energy surging within her." The healer told and Thor realized that this situation could be a dire one.
"That's a Quantum Field Generator." Jane said, finally realizing what this Asgardian machine was.
"It's a soul forge." The healer informed her.
"Does a soul forge transfer molecular energy from one place to another?" Jane asked and the healer momentarily stopped.
"Yes."
"Quantum Field Generator." Jane whispered to Will and Thor and they chuckled. She still had a good mood considering everything.
"So, we're dealing with something Asgard has never seen before and it's dangerous. Dr. Foster won't survive the energy building of whatever this thing is and they have no idea how to cure it." Will said, putting all the facts that had out into the open. "So, we extract it before it kills her."
"I've seen you do incredible things with your abilities. Do you think you could extract whatever this is from Jane?" Thor asked him.
"You want an honest answer or something to make you feel better?" Will wondered. He was willing to help Dr. Foster however he could but he didn't want to give him false hope. "First things first, I need to know exactly what happened."
He walked over to Jane and placed his hands on her head. "Uh, what are you doing?" She felt it a little weird that he was touching her head while he was on the table.
"Just relax, Dr. Foster. Close your eyes and clear your head." He told her so she did. Will took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and concentrated. Jane felt herself go to sleep and soon entered a calm mental state as Will looked into her mind. His body began glowing blue and all the healers stepped back in shock. They had no idea what he was doing but stepped back out of caution. Will's body continued glowing with his signature blue aura before he opened his eyes to show they were glowing and entered her mind.
Jane's Mindscape
Will, adorned in his Aegis gear with his hood down and mask not on, appeared in her mind which took the form of a sort of control room with hundreds of monitors placed on the walls of an enclosed space. The rows and banks of monitors completely covered the walls except for two white doors on opposite sides and in the center of the room was a chair. If there was someone else watching the scene then they would think that Jane's mind bore a striking resemblance to the Architect's room from the Matrix Reloaded. In reality this wasn't what her mind looked like but more just Will making up a mental construct he could interact with in a manner that was familiar. The Architect's room just made it easier for him to sort through everything in her mind. And despite his opinion on where the Matrix series went with Reloaded and Revolutions it was still his favorite sci-fi series of all time so he had a chance to use this room. And it felt appropriate.
He looked at the wall of monitors that were playing various memories from Jane's past but focused on her most recent ones. They were of their recent arrival on Asgard, so he backed up from there to get a starting point. The monitors played various memories before Will's gaze was drawn to one so he raised his hand, making all the monitors stop. A snap of his fingers and they all changed to play back the memory he chose which was of Jane walking through the warehouse in London. She was by herself and looking at the energy scanner, following the readings she was getting. She turned a corner down an empty hall where she heard the whooshing of wind. Seeing that as a good place to start he snapped his fingers and the monitors shut off before he walked through one of the doors, entering it.
He appeared next to her and watched the memory play out from a third-person view. The wind picked up at Dr. Foster, seemingly coming from the empty hallway when she was pulled into it. Her boots skid across the ground as it felt like something was pulling her. She was pulled through a wormhole portal and appeared on the edge of a cliff.
"Darcy!" Jane shouted but that's when she realized she wasn't in the warehouse. She was in some kind of dark place that she didn't recognize. Will didn't either but let the memory play out. The place was in shambles but there were giant stone pillars nearby and it seemed like she was in some kind of tomb. There was nearly zero ambient light except for the distance glow of what was either a very low-lit sun or powerful moon. Enough so that Dr. Foster wasn't walking in the dark but not enough for her or now Will to see where she was. The only other thing of note in the place was a giant stone slab that had a flickering red glow emanating from it like an ember.
Jane's curiosity got the better of her as she walked over and when she got close she looked through the small slit to see a kind of ethereal black energy slowly moving around something red. That's when one of the strands of black energy latched out and grabbed her arm. She tried to pull it free but when she looked up all she saw was red before the stone slab slammed shut and kept whatever it was from touching her.
Unfortunately, whatever black energy that touched her dug into her arm and burrowed into her body before spreading like a virus. Soon a deep unease filled Jane's stomach before she passed out. Will raised his hand and the memory stopped before he twisted his wrist to the left and it began reversing. It kept going until he stopped it at the part just before the stone slab slammed shut on the red energy.
"What the hell are you?" Will asked himself so he dug further into Dr. Foster's mind when he ran into a blockage. Something was purposely blocking him from entering further and the only reason that would ever be an issue is if a telepath put it in place which in Jane's case was unlikely so he pressed against it to break through.
The mindscape started to change as something destabilized Will's connection to Dr. Foster's mind. Pieces of it began to fizzle out and were replaced with the glowing red and black energy. Will concentrated and pushed more of his psychic powers into getting through which only made the mysterious energy fight back. Will's telekinetic aura shined bright and flared around like a raging fire as he fought back. He had no idea what this thing but was it was powerful. Soon enough the mindscape shattered and everything around Will appeared broken and fragmented like broken glass in an endless void of black space. The only things remaining were the fragmented pieces of the mindscape Will made, himself, and more of the mysterious energy lashing out at him like he was an invader. He raised his hands and created a psychic shield, watching as the tentacles and waves of red energy crashed against his shield and bounced off but kept trying to break through. He kept focused and drew in more power to his psychic shield, glowing bright like a blue star and forcing the red energy back a bit further.
"Get out of her!" Will demanded as he began pushing back even more. His shield expanded and the red energy began to recede slowly. He thought he had done it and was now a step closer into finding out exactly what this thing was when a literal tsunami wave of the red surrounded him from all side. His shield held for as long as it could but that didn't stop it from cracking. "Oh shit."
Another wave of red energy came through and shattered his shield before consuming him completely. The energy washed over him like water and began entered his body, pulling out of Dr. Foster and infecting him instead. Everything after that was a blur but Will had one final vision before he passed out.
Himself in his suit, floating in an dying void with the red energy flowing in and around his body, draining him of his energy.
Outside of the mindscape
Thor and the others watched as Will entered Jane's mind to try and help her. To them, all they could see was Will by Jane, touching her forehead while his blue aura surrounded him. He hoped that things were going well. He knew Will was powerful since he was able to extract memories from Loki but they had no idea what they were dealing with.
"My words are mere noises to you that you ignore them completely. You bring not one mortal but two, one of whom is doing who knows what here." He heard as Odin arrived with some of his personal guard.
"She is ill, Father and my friend is helping her." Thor told him.
"She is mortal." Odin waved his hand and shut the soul forge down. "Illness is their defining trait."
"I brought her here because we can help her." Thor told his father who observed what was going on. He was curious as to why the human was glowing blue but that wasn't important.
"They do not belong here in Asgard any more than a goat belongs at a banquet table." Odin stated. "You've overstepped your bounds, Thor. Your attachment to Earth was one I warned you about but you did not heed my warnings. Instead, you brought two of them to Asgard, a place no living mortal has ever seen before."
"A first for everything, perhaps?" They heard as Queen Frigga walked in, flanked by her handmaidens.
"Mother." Thor was glad to see her here.
"My queen. Don't worry. This situation will soon be dealt with." Odin assured her. "These mortals will soon be back where they belong."
"From what I sensed it would seem that one of them has more reason to be here then the other. I sensed it from as far away from my chambers. A great powerful energy I have never sensed before. I doubt any of us have sensed before." Frigga said as her gaze lingered on Will. "Is he one of the mortals you spoke of from Midgard? The Avengers?
"Yes, this is Will Detmer. He may be young but I'm sure he is one of Midgard's most powerful protectors. I've seen his prowess in battle with my own eyes. He's a powerful telekinetic and psychic. He led the charge against the Chitauri, destroyed their mothership and was able to penetrate the psychic shields Loki had to guard his mind." Thor recounted and Frigga was impressed. Even Odin had to admit that he sounded much more distinguished then the typical mortal from Midgard.
"He is powerful. I can feel it but what is he doing?" Frigga questioned.
"Something happened to Jane. There is something within her. I don't know what it is but it is powerful and dangerous. And it did not come from earth." Thor told her.
"Nevertheless, you should have left her there. Her world has healers and they're called doctors. They can handle—[BOOM!]
A powerful explosion of red energy erupted from Jane, releasing a wave that knocked the guards and healers back. Thor protected his mother and Odin was powerful enough to stand his ground but the others were knocked away. The red energy erupted out of Jane and began infecting Will, lifting him up into the air like a puppet. Thor, Frigga, and Odin watched in horror as they could feel the dark energy leaving Jane's body and finding a new, more powerful host. The second the last bit of energy left Jane's body and flowed into Will, a powerful energy pulse sent him flying through a wall.
"WILL!" Thor rushed over to help his friend. He climbed through the wall that Will crashed through and ended up in the hallway. Some nearby Asgardians were knocked back but no one was seriously hurt. He saw Will on the ground but he was moving and there was no visible pool of blood. "Will! Will, are you all right?"
Thor knelt to his side and turned him over to see he was alive, if slightly bruised. "Ow…" He uttered in pain. This hurt as much as it did when he fought the Juggernaut. On top of that he felt physically drained and weak so Thor had to help him sit up. "Thor…whatever was in Jane…it is definitely not from earth."
Odin and Frigga rushed through the hole he made with their guards. They raised their weapons at Will but Odin motioned them to stand down before he grabbed Will's arm and moved his hand down. That's when everyone could see that Will's veins were glowing red. Whatever energy that infected Jane was now in him.
"Will, what did you do?" Thor asked him.
"I'm not sure but I think I pissed it off enough that it attacked me." He admitted. "Whatever it is…it's powerful and its dangerous."
"On that you are right, Midgardian." Odin stated. "Come with me."
"Excuse me?" They heard and turned to see Jane peak her out of the hole. "Is everything ok?"
Odin and Frigga led Thor, Will, and Jane through the palace until they arrived in the sacred room of Yggdrasil where Asgard's oldest history was recorded. "Father, what are we doing here?" Thor asked him as they entered the room and Odin began looking for a book.
"Finding answers to what ails your compatriot." Odin found the one he needed and flipped to a certain part. "There are relics that pre-date the universe itself. What lies within him appears to be one of them. The Nine Realms are not eternal. They had a dawn as they will have a dusk. But before that dawn the dark forces, the Dark Elves, reigned absolute and unchallenged."
"Born of Eternal night the Dark Elves come to steal away the light. I know these stories. Mother would tell them us as children." Thor recounted.
"I'm glad you remember, Thor for in this story lies the answer to what happened to your friend." Frigga told him as everyone gathered around the book.
"Their leader Malekith made a weapon out of that darkness and it was called the Aether. While the other relics often appear as stones the Aether is fluid and everchanging. It changes matter into dark matter and seeks out host bodies, drawing strength from their life-force." Odin explained.
"So, the Aether infected Jane but when Will tried to help her it sensed a more powerful host and infected him instead." Thor deduced.
"Great. Host to an ancient power of destruction that is slowly draining the life out of me." Will remarked sarcastically. "Does this story have a happy ending?"
"It does. Malekith sought to use the Aether's power to return the universe to one of darkness. He planned on using the Convergence to spread its power out and consume everything." Frigga said.
"But, after eternities of bloodshed my father Bor finally triumphed ushering in a peace that lasted thousands of years." Odin added.
"What happened?" Jane asked.
"He killed them all." Odin replied.
"Are you certain? The Aether was said to be destroyed yet here it is." Thor pointed out.
"The Dark Elves are dead." Odin stated and Thor decided not to fight his father on that issue.
"I don't suppose your book happens to mention a way to get it out of me before it kills me, does it?" Will hoped.
"No. It does not." Odin replied.
"Figures." Will muttered. "Am I the only one who thinks that this can't be a coincidence?"
"What do you mean?" Jane wondered.
"The fact that we found this ancient powerful relic that hasn't been seen in five thousand years just before the Convergence like you said the Dark Elves attempted during the last one. There's no way that Dr. Foster stumbling onto it was by accident. Call it fate or destiny but I don't think this just happened. I stopped believing in coincidences long ago." Will stated.
"He may have a point. Perhaps it is fate that the Aether has reappeared during the days of the Convergence. If the Dark Elves are out there…"
"Do my words fall deaf on your ear now as they did then?" Odin stopped Thor before he could continue. "The Dark Elves are all dead. Their blood soaked the ground of their planet and their bones crumbled into nothing but dust. They are nothing but a distant memory. A mortal from Midgard stumbling onto the Aether is nothing but sheer dumb luck and nothing more. This kind of power is too dangerous to remain unchecked so for the time being the mortals will remain in Asgard under out protection until we can extract the Aether and contain it."
Odin declaration was final and no one dared to speak out against it given that his tone made it clear that he didn't believe in their ideas or theories. With that he left the room flanked by his personal guard.
"I think your dad is starting to like me." Will quipped, trying to ease the tension a bit.
"Forgive my husband for his manners. He may be a King in all regard but even Kings can sometimes forget themselves." Frigga said.
"Jane, Will, allow me to introduce you two to my mother, Frigga." Thor officially introduced them to his mother.
"Your majesty." Will and Jane bowed their heads.
"There is no need for that." Frigga assured them. "It is an honor to meet you. Thor has spoken much about his time on Midgard. Especially of you, Jane Foster."
"You told your mother about me?" Jane was shocked that he did. There was a small blush on her face and a less noticeable one on Thor's.
"He has. A part of me was intrigued to meet the Jane Foster that entranced son. Thank you again for the kindness you showed him on Midgard. It is because of you that he was able to come home." Frigga bowed her head and Jane bowed back.
"It was my pleasure, your majesty but I didn't do much. And I owe a lot to Thor as well. If it wasn't for him then I wouldn't know as much as I do now. And he also saved my life as well." Jane replied.
"Don't lower your accomplishment, my dear. Before he was banished to earth my son was a far cry from the noble warrior he is now. It is because of you that he returned to us a changed man." Frigga praised Jane who smiled in response. Frigga then turned her gaze to Will. "And he has told us much of the mighty warriors of Midgard including one that ferried a missile deep into Chitauri space at risk of his own life."
"It felt like the thing to do at the time." Will admitted and bowed his head. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Queen Frigga. And know that fighting side by side with Thor was an honor. Please know that despite what happened the people I report to know that Thor and Asgard are friends."
"Gratitude and please know that Asgard will ensure no further harm will come to Midgard from outside forces." Frigga assured him. "Forgive me for being forward but how did one from Midgard become as powerful as Thor says you are? Things have changed greatly since I was last on earth I imagine but how did you acquire such powerful psychic prowess that defeated the likes of Loki?"
"Loki's mental barrier was powerful but all shields can be broken if enough force is applied." He answered.
"True but no small task given Loki's prowess with magic I himself trained him in." Frigga said.
"You trained Loki?" Will wasn't expecting that.
"Queen Frigga is Asgard's mightiest user of magic. Loki took to her lessons better than I did." Thor admitted and now Will understood why she was asking the question. She wanted to know how someone was able to best Loki's magic and in a same vein, could possibly outmatch her.
"My answer will depend on what you know, your majesty. How familiar is Asgard with the Kree Empire?" He asked and based on the immediate twinges of disgust on both their faces he had a feeling that the familiarity wasn't pleasant. "I take it that things between your two people have been bad."
"That is putting it mildly. Asgard and the Kree Empire have gone to war several times in the past against the latter's expansion and barbarity. The Kree visited many planets centuries ago during their age of conquest in their war against various factions and performed experiments on the inhabitants to fight for them. They were losing in the war and needed more soldiers so the Kree genetically modified other creature's DNA with Terrigen Crystal—"
"In a process known as Terrigenesis." Will finished her sentence. "I know that because I am Inhuman."
That declaration caught Will and Frigga off guard. "But that's impossible." Frigga said.
"It's not. My story is different though. I was a regular human until a Primage meteor crash landed on earth and I happened to be nearby." Will informed her.
"Primagen?" Jane was beyond confused.
"It is an ancient crystal of immense energy that many believe to be the cause for evolution across the universe. Many species have evolved due to the effects including the Kree but most if not all have been used or lost for eons. No one believed any remained but apparently one did and it crashed onto Midgard. Who else was changed?" Thor asked.
"No one. Just me. I was the only one. The Primage unlocked a more powerful Terrigenesis in my body which is why I'm so powerful. After some time, I finally managed to control my abilities and decided to use them for good." He explained. "If anyone else had found the meteor I'm not sure what would have happened. I just happened to have a Inhuman gene in my DNA but I'm the only one."
"I was not expecting that revelation to be the answer to my question. You don't know but we heard stories of what the Kree had done and that their experiments were created to be monsters. Killers on the battlefield for their wars. The rumors spread among the people painting an…unfavorable picture of those changed. But…having met you and from what Thor has said it is clear that those rumors were just that. Stories told to frighten the more feeble. You are a proud warrior and a friend of my son. Asgard owes you a debt and we will do our best to honor it." Frigga said and everyone smiled that things were staying peaceful.
"Thank you, Queen Frigga." Will smiled when he suddenly felt a piercing pain in his head. "AH!"
He doubled-over and grabbed his head in pain as it felt like a hot iron was pressed against his head. One top of the massive headache, he felt weak and drained. "Will!" Thor rushed over to his side to stabilize him which is when they could see the veins in his arms glowing red but there seemed to be a faint blue glow as well fighting against it.
"I'm ok…I'm ok…" Will managed to stand up despite the pain in his head.
"What's wrong?" Jane asked him.
"It's the Aether. I can feel it…" He told them, groaning in discomfort. "I think my body and mind are trying to fight it subconsciously but it's strong."
"The Aether is a primordial force of the universe but Asgard will do everything in its power to help you." Frigga promised as two Asgardian soldiers arrived. "These men will take you to the rooms you'll be staying in while you are here. Perhaps some rest and food will help you."
"Sounds like a good idea." Will replied and they were escorted through the palace to the rooms they would be staying in. The trip did give Will and Jane a chance to see just how incredible and majestic the palace was. Much like the rest of Asgard it was opulent and radiated a calm energy while also showing the grandeur of the Asgardian royal family. The Asgardian guards, soldiers, and attendants went about their work with dutiful concentration but did stop and stare in awe at Jane and Will when they walked by. It was a first to see Midgardians on Asgard and even another to see them being personally escorted by Queen Frigga and Prince Thor.
They eventually arrived at some very large and lavish rooms. Will and Jane were given their own room with each qualifying more like a small house then a room itself. Open spaces, fancy furniture and a bed that looked as comfortable and inviting as the most expensive on Earth. Will thanked Frigga for the accommodations before he walked in and sat down on a chair. He placed his bag on the ground and took a deep breath to try and calm his mind. He head still twinged and stung which was disconcerting. He hasn't gotten a regular headache ever since he got his powers. The only times he does is if he's too strenuous with his powers which was possible but given what just happened it was clear that the Aether was affecting him. He was glad he got it out of Jane but looking at his own mortality now kind of put things into perspective. He hoped that Odin and the others could find a way to get the Aether out of him or at the very least find something to contain it and soon. When the surge of pain hit him before he felt weaker. It wasn't too much but he might still have enough power to maybe extract the Aether from his body without killing himself. If they waited too long and he kept getting weaker then he might not be strong enough. He had no idea how long he had but he would fight it as long as he could.
Several Asgardian servants arrived with a plate of food, beverages and some were carrying some clothes for him to change into. "Thank you." He said and they bowed their heads before leaving. He looked over at the food when his nose picked up the faint hints of alcohol. One of the jugs they brought him must be alcoholic and since there was a chance he would die it was the best time for a drink. He poured himself a cup and drank it down in a few gulps, feeling the buzz of the alcohol come through which caught him by surprise but it quickly faded. Guess his super soldier-like body burned the alcohol pretty quickly. He had a feeling that if a normal human drank the ale it'd be like drinking an entire keg.
Before he could think anymore, he heard the creak of the floor behind him so he quickly turned and pulled out his pistol only to get it knocked out of his hand. He grabbed his attackers arm and threw him over his shoulder but they landed on their feet and pushed him back before attacking with a series of quick jabs, kicks, and punches that were blocked, dodged, or parried. Will blocked a low kick to the leg and then elbow blocked a kick to the side before he blocked and grabbed his opponent's punch to his face. He grabbed his other arm and with a quick backstep he fell to the ground into a tomoe-nage throw, sending his opponent over his body. Will saw his pistol on the floor so he grabbed it and did a kip-up back to his feet before turning and aiming his gun at whoever was attacking him. His opponent did the same and that gave him a good look at who he was dealing with and it was…Will.
At first he thought he was looking at a mirror because he was literally looking at himself. There he saw Will, aiming his pistol at him like he was currently doing at the person who attacked him who happened to be him. "Who the hell are you?" Will questioned his attacker, pulling the hammer back on his pistol and ready to pull the trigger.
"Isn't that kind of obvious? I'm you." He said. "And before you say that's not possible and that you're an only child, don't. This isn't a dream, you're not hallucinating, and no I'm not an evil clone."
"Then an Asgardian. A trickster like Loki. Well, you picked the wrong person to mess with." Will eyes began glowing and he attacked with a telekinetically powered punch that would have knocked his attacker through the wall only to feel something stopping him. He looked up and saw his attacker's eyes were also glowing blue and he held his hand up, using his telekinesis to stop his punch before contact.
"An Asgardian can't do what we can do. I'm telling you the truth. I'm you, Will. Our name is William Alexander Detmer, adopted son of Harold and Mary Detmer from Atlantic City, New Jersey. Birthname is William Alexander Danvers and your birthparents are John Garrett and Carol Danvers. We went to NYU for college but the final year you touched the Primagen Meteor and became an Inhuman. You joined SHIELD after our parents were killed and are a founding member of the Avengers. You're on Asgard because you were trying to help Dr. Foster and in doing so are now infected with the Aether. You have a pet Flerken named Goose and girlfriend, Crystal. She is the Princess of the Inhuman Royal Family of Attilan, currently on the moon. I know this because I am you and I'm from the future." He said.
After that bombshell of a revelation, Will took a moment to look at his supposed future-self. He could see on his face that he looked a little older. He had the same hair and 5 o'clock shadow so guess his style never changed that much. He wasn't sure when his supposed future-self was from but likely somewhere 10 to 15 years in the future. His suit was also different. It was much more sleek and seemed more advance.
"I'm not here to hurt you." His future-self lowered his pistol and holstered it on his side. He wasn't sure if he believed him so he decided to use his telepathy to see if he was telling the truth. "Trying to read my mind?"
Will heard that in his head so his future-self must be using his telepathy as well. "Can't blame me for trying. It's what I would do."
"Exactly but there's some things in my head that you can't know about yet. Sorry." His future-self just shrugged.
"Ok then. If you really are me from the future…then tell me something only I would know. Something I've got buried deep in my subconscious and would never willingly tell someone." Will challenged him.
His future-self gave the idea some thought and began thinking of an answer when he visibly perked up. "Darcy Lewis." His future-self said. "Our college girlfriend from when we were at Culver University for the year. You saw her again for the first time since college when Dr. Foster was reported missing. Snarky, funny, smart, and hot, even without the glasses. Her butt in those jeans and the first time we saw her in a bikini at the university's pool? Whew, one of the best memories we'll never forget but one we should never bring up to Crystal. Anyway, to get back to the topic. We were 20 and it was around December before we were going to go back home for break. She made us try on her panties. They were pink and satiny, and you know what…we kind of liked it."
Will looked at his future-self and realized he was telling the truth. "Touché." He put his gun down and holstered it. "So, what do you want?"
"Something I'm gonna need to borrow. We're sorry about this." His future-self said.
"We?" Will was confused.
"Sorry, kid." Will turned around and saw a bi-pedal talking raccoon with an alien gun pointed at him. "If it makes you feel any better. When you see me next, we're gonna end up being good friends."
"I end up friends with a talking raccoon?" Will asked and got hit with a blue energy blast that felt like getting hit by 50 supercharged tasers. Will was knocked out rather quickly.
"Now, I don't feel as guilty." The raccoon said as future Will picked his past-self up and placed him on the bed before touching his forehead. "What are you doing?"
"Putting him to sleep and erasing his memories. He's seen too much. When he wakes up he won't remember any of this." Future Will said and easily erased his past self's memories of the last ten minutes completely before putting in small hints that he just went to bed early for some rest. The raccoon then tossed him a special high-tech syringe connected to a containment device. "Let's get this over with."
He injected it into his past-self's neck and extracted the Aether from his body into the container and then placed his hand over the needle mark on his skin. His hand glowed blue and when he pulled it back it was completely healed over like it was never there in the first place.
"All right, let's find the fat dope and get out of here." The raccoon said and the duo left. Will slept undisturbed when about 30 minutes later another stranger arrived holding the containment device with the Aether. It was opened and the Aether returned to Will's body.
All of this with Will none the wise of what just happened but he would revisit this moment again.
Just not now.

Asgard, the Realm Eternal
Will awoke from his bed after a long night's sleep. He wasn't sure exactly how long he was asleep for but if Asgard's time was similar to Earth's then it was likely around noon. It did some good to give him some mental and physical rest but the Aether was still inside him. He got up and stretched before looking at the Asgardian clothing set out for him, typical of the garb he had seen including tunics and medieval style clothing. He wasn't sure about all of it so he took out his Aegis gear and got dressed before he sat down cross-legged and did some meditating. While he was waking up, the rest of the city was already busy and filled with activity. Thor was out in the city with Jane who was wearing a very nice Asgardian dress. With the looming fear of death by the Aether no longer in her she was able to relax and enjoy time with Thor but both their minds were on Will's condition. Thor was informed that Odin instructed Asgard's brightest minds to work on helping him but so far they had found nothing.
Fandral and Volstagg, two of the Warriors Three had arrived back on Asgard with another group of brigands and marauders who were now in chains and being escorted into their cells in the dungeons. Loki watched them walk by in amusement. "Odin continues to bring me new friends. How thoughtful." Loki's sarcasm was obvious as was his contempt.
"The books I sent, do they now interest you?" Frigga asked him, standing in his cell with him.
"Is that how I am to while away eternity? Reading?" Loki wondered.
"I've done everything in my power to make you comfortable, Loki." Frigga told him.
"Have you? Does Odin share your concern? Does Thor? It must be so inconvenient them asking after me day and night." Loki remarked.
"You know full well it was your actions that brought you here." Frigga reminded him.
"My actions? I was merely giving truth to the lie that I had been fed my entire life…that I was born to be a King." Loki stated.
"A king? A true king admits his faults." Frigga told him. "What of the lives you took on Earth?"
"A mere handful compared to the number that Odin has taken himself." Loki pointed out.
"Your father—" "HE'S NOT MY FATHER!" Loki shouted in anger.
"Then am I not your mother?" she asked.
There was a brief moment of pain and regret on Loki's face before he answered. "You're not."
"You're always so perceptive about everyone but yourself." Frigga said as Loki reached out to touch her which is when her Astral Projection faded. Thor took Jane on a walk through the city to show her the sights of what Asgard had to offer. He introduced her to the people, told her about his past and informed her of the Convergence which was how she ended up missing for so long and first came into contact with the Aether. It was a rather lovely and romantic moment that the duo finished with a kiss when Frigga joined them.
Back with Will, he was still sitting on the floor of his room and meditating after getting dressed in his Aegis outfit with his hood down and mask not activated. It helped him clear his mind and aided him against whatever the Aether was doing to him. He focused his powers deep within himself to try and fight against the Aether's sapping of his life force but despite how powerful he was it was only gauze on a broken leg. The Aether was ancient and powerful and it wouldn't go without a fight. So, instead of fighting against his supposed infection he tried extracting it from his body. Similar to what he did when he removed the poison from his stomach at Casino Royale but on a larger scale. He focused completely on his task and could feel the Aether moving within his body. Moving within every cell and through his veins and he was even able to will it to move around him so he tried to force it from his body. During the process, the Aether fought him tooth and nail, not wanting to leave a powerful vessel and other then the physical pain he felt it also began attacking his mind. Will did his best to fight back but trying to pull it out piece by piece while shielding his mind at the same time was tough. The Aether fighting his mind ended up triggering a Foresight vision.
Mindscape…
Will appeared in an empty void with various moments of the present and past playing before him like he experienced before the Battle of New York. He saw Thor and Jane walking around Asgard, Loki in his cell talking to an Astral Projection of his mother, and Asgardians escorting around brigands and outlaws. Then the future began to play as one of the prisoners was infected with some kind of dark magic that changed his physical form into a more towering and menacing figure. He broke through the cell and proceeded to let out the other prisoners who enjoyed their freedom and attacked the Asgardian soldiers. Loki then gave the Kursed enemy directions to the throne room and he made his way through the palace to destroy the energy source of the shield around the palace. While he did that a massive black ship shaped like a sword appeared over Asgard and sent out smaller ships into the city. One of them crashed into the palace and murdered the Asgardian defenders before Malekith, leader of the Dark Elves arrived in the room Will was in to take the Aether. Frigga arrived to help him but was killed in the process.
Will watched in horror as she sacrificed herself to save him and keep the Aether out of their hands. Thor was devastated and after that the last thing he saw terrified him. He was on the ground in London back on earth. He was in a courtyard in the University of Greenwich and everything looked fine until he saw Malekith appear and release the Aether's energy. The Aether expanding without hesitation as it completely absorbed the light of the everything it touched. And the worse part was that it was spreading like a virus intent on consuming everything in its path. They had failed.
Will was forced out of his vision abruptly. He fell back and grabbed his head in pain. He still wasn't used to his Foresight ability and if what he saw was in fact the future then they were running out of time. Once he had a moment to himself he heard the blaring of an alarm horn and the sound of artillery cannons. He rushed over the balcony and saw three black ships flying over the city. They had a narrow profile like a sword and flew with precision and speed. They dodged the Asgardian laser cannons and cut through the Asgardian attack ships with ease. Will recognized this moment as one from his vision into the future and everything matched up including the golden shield he saw come up over the palace. But if Will's vision was right then soon enough that mutated prisoner would destroy the energy source that powered the shield and if things played out then utter chaos and despair would transpire.
Not if he could help it. He pulled up his hood and his mask came up around his face. The eye lenses on his mask glowed blue and he rushed out of his room. Will ended up being right, of course, as the protective shield around Asgard powered down in time for one of the Dark Elves's ships to fly straight into the palace and crash through the massive throne room. It tore a path of destruction as it did with the Asgardian servants and civilians running for their lives while the soldiers stood their ground and readied themselves to fight. They held their shields and weapons up, slowly approaching the ship that was filled with Dark Elves when the front of the ship opened up like a door. The guns on the ship fired red energy bolts, killing several Asgardians who couldn't protect themselves in time as dozens of Dark Elves came out of the ship. They were adorned in their armor with their emotionless white masks on their faces. They fired guns that shot similar red energy bolts like on the ship but more Asgardian soldiers arrived to fight them off and their shields managed to block and deflect their projectiles. One of the Dark Elves threw a grenade which exploded into a small singularity. It sucked in three soldiers and broke their bodies in horrendous ways before they were gone.
The Dark Elves pressed the attack, managing to catch many Asgardians off guard before things turned into a melee. The Asgardians fought with swords and spears while the Dark Elves used unique blades weapons secured to their forearms. One Asgardian soldier used his sword to cut a Dark Elf across the neck and then turned to block an energy bolt with his shield. The Dark Elf shooting at him took a singularity grenade from his belt but his body froze and was flung into the ceiling. A Dark Elf killed an Asgardian with a knife to the side when he was sent flying through the air and crashed through a stone pillar. Two Dark Elves were sent flying across the throne room so another raised his rifle only to get blasted by a blue energy blast that left a smoking hole burned through his body.
The Asgardians turned to see who was their savior and it was a masked, hooded man wearing black and blue Midgardian garb. Will arrived in his Aegis suit to turn the tide of the fight and keep the Dark Elves and Malekith from pushing forward. He walked forward and push kicked one Dark Elf in the chest which sent him flying into a pillar before he created a telekinetic shield to block the red energy bolts. He sent two Dark Elves flying back with a telekinetic push and then activated his forearm blades to block a sword from a Dark Elf. The Dark Elf tried to kill him with a lunge but Will blocked his sword and pushed him back before cutting his head one with one swing. He saw one Dark Elf ready a singularity grenade so he pulled it into his hands and activated it before sending it back. The grenade killed two Dark Elves as the remaining quickly grouped together to solidify their attack. Will kept his shield strong against their energy bolts before he held his hand forward and his telekinetic energy formed bullet constructs that shot forward at supersonic speeds. They tore through the Dark Elves like tissue paper and he finished it off with a final swipe of his hand which sent the Dark Elves flying away and even knocked the ship back.
"Everyone all right?" He asked and got nods from the Asgardians when more Dark Elves disembarked the ship, led by one in particular. He wasn't wearing a mask and physically held himself to a higher esteem then the foot soldiers who followed him.
"You have much power for a human but I can sense the Aether within you, slowly sapping away at you." Malekith said as he glared down at Will and the Asgardians. "I have come for what is mine. Return it to me and I will grant you a quick death."
"Sorry. Not gonna happen." Will declared.
"Then you invite your own end, human." Malekith raised his hand to use his magic and pull the Aether from his body only to quickly conjure a dark magic shield to protect him from the energy blast Will hit him with. It kept him from harm but the force sent him flying back. His Dark Elves raised their guns at him but Will unleashed a powerful Psionic explosion that tore through everything in front of him. It blasted the Dark Elves and sent them crashing into the support pillars, the ceiling, or into the floor.
Will was ready to go over and take down Malekith quickly when his danger sense flared up. He turned and saw the Kursed soldier tear through and take down the Asgardian soldiers with ease before rushing at him. Will dodged and ducked all of the Kursed wild attacks. He slid around him and kicked out one of his legs before grabbing him by the collar and threw him into the Dark Elf ship. He bounced off and quickly got back to his feet, ripping up a chunk of the floor and throwing it at him. Will just forced it to a stop and pushed it back but the Kursed punched through it and reached out to grab him. When his hand touched Will's shoulder an energy blast from the Aether send both of them flying away. Will was flung back and ending up crashing through Odin's throne, through the palace wall and crashed onto the street below.
"Ugh…" Will groaned in pain that was a mix of the trauma he just suffered being sent flying through a gold throne, palace wall, and crashing into the ground along with the physical draining from the Aether.
Malekith and the Kursed jumped down from the palace to the street below causing the nearby Asgardians to flee. "A defiant last stand for a human." Malekith raised his hand and Will floated up into the air. "But you cannot stop what has been ordained and destined to happen."
He began extracting the Aether from Will's body and in doing so, Will began to enter a trance. He could see what Malekith's ultimate plan was, where it was going to happen, and what it's endgame was. The Aether slowly pulled itself out of Will's body when a blast of lightning hit Malekith in the face, stopping the process. Will fell to the ground and the Aether was pulled back into his body. Thor landed next to him and the Kursed charged only this time Will blasted him and Malekith with an energy blast. Thor added on his lightning and the combined power of both sent them flying away and crashing into the ocean outside the city.
Will fell to the ground in exhaustion but Thor was there to catch him before he fell. The two rested as they saw one of the Dark Elf ships stop by the water to presumably pick up Malekith and the Kursed and flee back to the giant mothership before they vanished.
"Will! Will, are you all right?" Thor asked him and got a nod in response. "That was close. Malekith almost had what he wanted."
"Your mother? Is she all right?" Will asked and Thor was confused as to the question.
"Yes, she is." Thor assured him. Will removed his hood and deactivated his mask to breathe a sigh of relief. "Will, what is it?"
"I had a vision. Before the attack and as Malekith was trying to extract the Aether. I know what his plan is…how he plans to do it…and I think I know a way we can stop him." He told him and Thor smiled, giving him a slug on the arm but Will groaned in pain. "Ow, still in pain."
"Sorry." Thor before helping Will back to his feet.

Asgard, the Realm Eternal
The Dark Elf invasion of Asgard was successfully beat back by the Asgardians but it came with great cost. Many were killed in the fighting including civilians but thankfully Malekith left without the Aether. Still, the fact that the Dark Elves were able to sneak onto Asgard with no one knowing they were here was disconcerting. Not even Heimdall could see them. They had fled but if it was the Aether they were after then they would be back. That night there was a traditional Asgardian funeral held for the deceased and the next morning the entire city was on high alert.
Thor walked through the palace with Will by his side as the duo entered the destroyed throne room to see Odin having a meeting with the leaders of his armies about what was to be done.
"Father, we need to speak." Thor told him. Odin and the other Asgardians looked over at Thor and at the human by his side.
"Escort the human to his room." Odin ordered and some soldiers walked over to take him but Thor got in their way. "I do not wish to fight with you."
"Nor I you but we must speak. Will has a plan to stop Malekith and I believe it is one that will work." Thor said and nodded to Will who walked up and stood beside him.
"I know what he's planning to do and why he came here for the Aether. He's going to use it during the Convergence to finish what he started thousands of years ago." Will told Odin but the King didn't think he told him anything knew.
"Thank you, human for telling me what I already know." Odin remarked.
"But I know exactly where he needs to be for his plan to work." Will stated.
"How?" One of the Asgardian leaders said. It was a woman in red and silver armor. Will recognized her from the files of Thor's arrival and the Destroyer attack in New Mexico. The file had her name listed as Lady Sif and with her were two of the three warriors who accompanied her. Fandral and Volstagg.
"My powers. With certain triggers I'm able to see glimpses into the future. Its happened before on earth before the Chitauri invasion and it happened before the Dark Elves attacked. It's how I knew where Malekith would be and how I got there so fast." Will answered.
"An interesting friend you have there, Thor." Fandral praised.
"I know where the apex of the Convergence will be and it's on Earth. He plans on using the Aether at the peak of the Convergence to spread it across the universe but now that we know what his plan is we can go on the offensive and stop it before it even happens." Will stated. "We kill Malekith before he ever gets the Aether then we can stop his plans and the Dark Elves have nothing."
"I admire your bravery but it is misplaced. Why should we pursue our enemy when we have what he wants? We possess the Aether and Malekith will come to us." Odin said.
"Yes, and he will destroy us." Thor countered.
"You overestimate the power of these creatures." Odin warned Thor.
"No, I value our people's lives. The risk of doing nothing here is far too great. His ship could be over our heads right now and we'd never even know it." Thor pointed out.
"Lord Odin, I know this is a risk but Thor is right. Staying here in Asgard right now isn't a viable plan. Your defenses are in shambles and the Dark Elves power and technology could tear through Asgard and kill thousands. You say Thor overestimates them but you underestimate them especially since they've had thousands of years to do god knows what. Going on the offensive is the best way to end this. We kill Malekith and his plan is over." Will stated.
"And if your plan should fail then you'll deliver the weapon in the hands of the very person we are trying to stop." Odin countered.
"Then send us to Earth with your best. There are people there can help us, people Thor and I have fought beside and together we can beat Malekith." Will told him. "Say what you will about Midgard but we are not just cavemen or the simple villagers the last time you visited."
Odin chuckled in disbelief at Will's declaration. "The hubris of Midgard knows no bounds."
"My ego is in check, it's yours that's not." Will stated and there was a palpable tension in the room upon his statement. "You call us weak and view us as lesser but the good thing about that is I don't underestimate the opponent I'm facing. You have. You know what I saw in my vision when the Dark Elves attacked the palace? Hundreds of your people slaughtered and Queen Frigga killed in the crossfire by that giant hulking mutant. The reason I went out of my room to fight was to prevent that from happening and I'm trying to save you now from a greater massacre by letting you get her or yourself killed!"
"ENOUGH!" Odin slammed his spear into the ground in anger. His voice bellowed out like a crack of thunder and there was a powerful pulse of energy emitted from his spear. "Take the human to the dungeons! Perhaps some time down there will provide him with some sense."
The Asgardian soldiers marched over and surrounded him with their spears pointed at forward. Will was prepared to fight but looked over at Thor. Picking a fight here wouldn't help anyone so he decided to let it go. One of the soldiers placed on a pair a special cuffs imbued with Asgardian magic that would block Will's powers and they took him away. Odin left the room, flanked by his personal guard as Sif, Fandral, and Volstagg walked over to Thor.
"The human possesses either great bravery or little sense to speak to the All father like that." Volstagg remarked.
"Will is many things but having little sense is not one of them." Thor defended him. "He is right though. Asgard's defenses are in no condition to stop Malekith should he return and he will."
"But is the latter a better option?" Sif questioned. "Heading to earth and pinning our hopes on the plan of one mortal. I know he is strong and your friend Thor but will his plan work?"
"I believe it will. And the risk of doing nothing is far greater." Thor replied.
Will was escorted through the palace to the dungeons below and was placed into his new humble abode of a cell all to himself but he had a neighbor. His cell was directly across from Loki's and the smirk the Asgardian God of Mischief had on his face couldn't be any more prominent. The guards activated the yellow energy shields and left Will there while they secured the dungeons.
"Oh, how the mighty have fallen." Loki said in glee. "I've had very little moments of pleasure here in my cell but this is one I will remember for eternity."
"Oh, great. I've got to listen to Mr. Daddy-Issues." Will walked around his cell before touching the energy shield which sizzled and burned him.
"So, tell me great hero of Earth? What did you do to earn yourself a place amongst Odin's most hated people? Well, I imagine it wasn't that hard. He already doesn't have a high opinion of your people." Loki remarked. "That is one thing he and I have in common now."
"You just love to hear yourself talk, don't you?" Will pointed out when he felt a little weak so he held onto the wall to stabilize himself.
"Feeling a little weak, human? Something is wrong with you. I can feel it from here." Loki said as Will coughed a bit into his hand and saw a little blood come out which he wiped on his pants. Loki saw what he did and chuckled. "And my joy ceases no end. Seeing you dying brings me even more joy. I just wish I could have killed you myself."
"Oh please, you'd have more luck killing a fish." Will told him off.
"Come now. What are you doing here? Regale me with the story of how Odin sentenced you here to the dungeons to join me." Loki urged him on. "Paint me a lovely picture with your words."
"I'm not talking to a man who's the textbook definition of sibling jealousy and daddy issues not to mention a role model for narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. I've been in your head Loki so I know exactly what you are and it's not pretty." Will pointed out but Loki seemed rather pleased like it was a compliment. "Granted, all of that is to cover up your deep seeded issues of inferiority and a possible Borderline Personality Disorder. Having met Odin, I get it so I hope you can find peace with yourself for the rest of your long existence."
Will sat down against the wall to get some rest. "Oh, all that human ego and self-belief in yourself. It's a shame that we had never met sooner. How I could have saved you from falling under the pitiful sway of my brother? At least tell me this. Now that you are in this cell…was all of it worth it? Fighting against me and trying to protect your planet in your feeble attempt to bring order to that chaotic pit?"
"To stop people like you? Absolutely." Will answered with complete honesty in his answer.
"And how many people have you killed to, as you put it, stop people like me?" Loki wondered.
"Probably a lot less then you have." Will pointed out and Loki chuckled. "I know I have to get my hands dirty to protect people. It's makes the reason to do it even more important."
Loki couldn't help himself but laugh at Will's naïve outlook and his belief in it. "A human with the power to rule over them but stooping so low to protect them. It's as funny as it is tragic."
"And you thinking you're a superior god and that humans are beneath you led to a tragedy all its own. Or do you not remember the beating I gave you in the tower?" Will wondered and he didn't need to look at Loki to see him involuntarily shiver. "You're not a god but an alien with powers. In fact, not even an Asgardian but a Frost Giant from what Thor told me. Is it resentment for being raised by them that you ended up betraying the people who took you in?"
"You understand nothing, human. Your mind tricks won't work on me." Loki snarled in anger, getting up from his chair and moving over to the barrier of his cell to look at him. "I was merely acting upon a lie I was fed my entire life. I was born to rule so I did."
"Yeah, attempting a takeover of a planet you considering inferior and got your ass kicked in the process with your army destroyed. Not doing such a good job, are you?." Will quipped.
"And your leaders are any better? They grovel and parade around for those that pay them and the rest of you walk around like children. Ignorant and weak. I went there to save you from yourselves. Haven't you ever taken a moment to think about what your own people have done to themselves? War everywhere, your planet dying, your leaders messing with things they do not understand and trying so desperately to grasp what they can only dream of. It's all an illusion. The illusion of free will and your people have wasted it fully. Your planet will be destroyed in less then a century and your people will be the cause of that." Loki spat at Will.
"And you care about us surviving? Color me shocked and I also called bullshit." He stated. "I've been in your head Loki so I know the only thing you crave is power. It's why you want to be King because you think it'll give you all the power you want which in turn will help with your serious inferiority issues brought on because of Thor. Fair enough but reality check, no amount of power is ever gonna actually make you happy because once you get it you'll just want more and more and more until it kills you. No matter how much power you get it's never gonna fill that deep pit you have. You actually want to feel better? Get some therapy." He replied before leaning his head back to try and relax.
"You have no idea of the matters upon which you speak. Humans are a fleeting moment in the universe. A small piece of sand on a planet upon which you can't even begin to understand but I do. The marvels of the infinite cosmos and you are nothing but insects. Death will come for your world and I just hope I have a chance to glimpse it, even if only once so I can see you beg for mercy!" Loki shouted so Will just snapped his fingers and Loki was thrown into the wall of his cell. He cracked the structure and groaned in pain before he was then pushed up into the ceiling, then dropped to the ground face first.
Will raised up a finger and Loki was slammed up into the ceiling. He then moved his finger down and he slammed into the ground again, this time the impact cracked the floor. He then repeated this about 12 more times before he stopped. A quick peak from the wall and he could see Loki on the ground in pain. "That was fun." Will admitted to himself before removing the cuffs from his wrists.
Flashback…
When the Asgardian soldier walked over and pulled out the cuffs, Will's eyes glowed blue and he mind tricked the soldier into just putting them on but not securing them so the enchantment didn't activate. When he was taken away it looked like the cuffs were on and they were but loosely and with the enchantment not active he still had his powers.
End of Flashback…
Loki pulled his head out of the ground and glared at Will. "Even with your powers…you will never leave these dungeons."
"I know. Your dad's got a good portion of the whole Asgardian Army outside to keep me locked up. But that's a good thing because it keeps their focus on me and not on the others." Will admitted but wasn't worried. Instead, he had a smile on his face. "After all, any good plan has at least one misdirection."
Flashback…
The funeral for the fallen Asgardians had just ended with their souls off to Valhalla. Many celebrated the fallen with drinks and rowdy raucousness but not Will or Thor because they had a mission. They walked through the crowd of people until they found Frigga with Jane. "Mother, we need to talk." Thor told her so they found a secluded area to speak in private.
Thor and Will proceeded to tell her of the plan and what Will had seen, including her potential death at the hands of Malekith. They knew he would return so to save Asgard they needed to draw Malekith somewhere else and kill him. With him dead then the Dark Elves would be done for. Since Will knew what he needed for his plan and where it was going to be then they could use that to their advantage and set a trap. With Thor and some of the help from the Avengers on Earth then they had a real shot at stopping Malekith before he could wipe out all life in the Universe.
"I'm not sure, Thor. The plan isn't without its risk." Frigga told him. "And I don't think your father would go for it as well."
"No, we don't think so either. He underestimates them and with their technology they could be nearby and we wouldn't even know it. Malekith can sense the Aether so when he comes again he'll lay waste to all of Asgard with our defenses down." Thor said.
"We need to get him to chase us." Will added.
"What you are suggesting Thor is dangerous. Going against your father would bring you exile or result in your death." Frigga warned him.
"I'm aware of the risk but am willing to do what I must." Thor answered.
"Queen Frigga…I wouldn't have even bothered Thor with his idea if I didn't think we had a chance of pulling this off. We just need a containment device for the Aether." Will pleaded with her and she gave it some thought.
"The greatest enchanters and I have been working tirelessly on a container for the Aether that we believe will safely secure it but we still need time to complete it." Frigga said.
"How much time?" Thor asked her.
"12 hours at least." Frigga theorized. "And we need to keep your father from discovering what you plan to do."
That was true. Their plan wouldn't work if Odin found out what they planned to do which is when Will got an idea. "I can take care of that."
End of Flashback…
Thor walked through the palace with haste, arriving at Jane's room where she watched his mother weaving the last of the Asgardian runes on containment device, modeled after the stone container Will saw in Jane's memories. It was just smaller.
"Is it ready?" Thor asked.
"One moment." Frigga placed her hands on the container and her hands glowed green. She flooded her magic into the device and the runes glowed gold before they dimmed down. "It's ready. It should be able to contain the Aether but we are cutting it close. The Convergence will be at its height in several hours."
"Then we best not delay. Jane, are you ready?" Thor asked and she nodded. She was dressed in her regular clothes and had Will's backpack with her.
"I am." Jane replied when the door opened and in walked Sif, Fandral, and Volstagg.
"We're ready as well but how do we get to Midgard? You spoke with Heimdall. Your father had shut the Bifrost down and unless your friend is able to teleport us to earth then we cannot leave." Sif informed him.
"There are other paths off of Midgard that Odin does not know about. Luckily your mother does. Get Will and meet me at the Fantier gardens by the river. Hurry!" Frigga told them and they moved with haste.
Thor, Jane, Sif, Volstagg, and Fandral moved through the palace but were stealth. They didn't draw attention to themselves and thankfully Odin and his guard were on their way to the Bifrost. Heimdall called them to provide a little distraction but they had to hurry. "Will, can you hear me?" Thor thought in his head.
Back in the cell, Will was sitting with his legs crossed and meditating. "Yes, Thor. I can hear you." He replied. Will was using his psychic communication to speak with Thor via their minds.
"The containment device is ready. We're heading to the eastern exit of the Palace. Meet us there." Thor told him.
"I'm on my way." He replied before he spread out his telepathy to the guard just down the hall. His eyes began glowing blue as he walked to Will's cell like he was a robot. He approached Will's cell and deactivated the forcefield, setting him free. "Thank you."
Will's eyes glowed blue and the guard passed out. "I don't suppose you plan on letting me go, do you?" Loki wondered.
"Not on your life." Will walked away. "Do try and get some therapy. It could help you."
Will walked through the dungeons and headed to the east exit when he turned the corner and saw six Asgardian soldiers. They raised their weapons at him but they were too late as he used his mental inducement on them. His eyes glowed blue and they all fell to the floor, asleep. He stepped over their bodies and made his way to the exit.
Thor and the others arrived at the exit by the palace where two guards were posted. Sif and Volstagg quickly grabbed them from behind and choked them out before dragging their bodies away. They saw a lot of Asgardian civilians in their path along with guards. Their presence would cause some commotion and alarm. "Do you think your friend got lost?" Fandral questioned.
"No, I'm here." They jumped in shock as Will walked up to them. "Sorry. There were a lot of Asgardians standing guard over me."
"You didn't kill them did you?" Fandral questioned.
"No, just put them to sleep. They'll wake up in an hour." He promised. "Shall we?"
"We'll need to move quickly and quietly. There are a lot of Asgardians out there who will be wondering what were doing." Thor said so Will looked out and got an idea.
"I can help with that. Give me a moment." Will took a deep breath and his eyes began glowing blue. Thor and the others had no idea what he was doing but clearly he was doing something. He stretched out his powers over a wide area and used his telepathy to perform a trick he was quite liking. "Ok, we're good."
"Good with what? They're not asleep or frozen or anything." Jane pointed out.
"Well, that'd be conspicuous wouldn't it? Watch." He walked out of the palace and over the short bridge into the city. Several Asgardians civilians and soldiers passed him by without a care in the world or even acknowledged he was even there. Thor and the others watched in awe as he jumped around and even waved his hand in front of a soldier but nothing.
"How is he doing that?" Jane asked.
"Your friend is powerful." Fandral admitted as Will motioned them to follow so Thor went first. Once he crossed and saw the Asgardians paid him no attention the others followed.
"Will, how did you do this?" Thor asked.
"A recent trick I developed. I'm using my powers to adjust their minds so they can't see us. A sort of mental hallucination to everyone within a very large bubble. We're invisible to them but keep quiet and don't touch any of them. Now where are we going?" Will asked.
"Further east to the outskirts of the city. There's a river there and my mother will meet us." Thor told him and Will could see it was a long walk.
"All right. I'm focusing my powers on keeping this hallucination up so let's hurry." Will whispered and they nodded. His eyes were still glowing since he was constantly using his powers to trick the minds of everyone nearby so they didn't appear but with so many Asgardians it was a lot of work. He had to stay focused and even though they appeared invisible he couldn't help it one of them accidently bumped into them or made a loud noise so they had to be quiet.
The walk was long and arduous with some close calls. Volstagg had to move like a ballerina to avoid a crowd of children while Jane almost bumped into an elderly couple but eventually they arrived at the Fantier gardens by the river. They saw Frigga waiting for them so Will cut off the hallucination. His eyes stopped glowing but then he felt weak and fell forward with Volstagg managing to catch him at the last second.
"Will!" Thor rushed over as Volstagg steadied Will who coughed up a lung into his hand. When he pulled it away they could see it had blood on it. "What's happening?"
"It's the Aether. I can feel it growing stronger. The more Will uses the powers the faster it eats away at his life force." Frigga told him.
"Then we don't have any time to lose." Will wiped his hand clean. "How do we get to earth?"
Frigga led them through the garden to what looked like an old stone arch carved into cavern nearby but was covered by a giant rock. Volstagg and Thor moved it out of the way to see a dark tunnel. "This is one of the oldest passageways from Asgard to Midgard. This will take you where you need to go." Frigga said.
"Thank you, Queen Frigga." Will bowed his head.
"Thank you, Will Detmer. Asgard owes you a great debt…as do I." Frigga told him. "Good luck."
He nodded and walked in first followed by Volstagg, Fandral, Sif and then Jane. Thor walked up to his mother and hugged her goodbye. "If I don't see you again…know that I hope I have made you proud." Thor said.
"You have, my son." Frigga held his cheek and kissed him on the head before he joined the others. They continued walking into the dark tunnel and soon enough they were surrounded by blinding lights similar to the Bifrost and were teleported from Asgard. Frigga watched them leave and as they did she heard the sound of the horns in the distance.
Earth
With a bright flash of light, the group appeared in the middle of a two lane road running through a small town. There were wide open plains and mountain ranges with goats and sheep herding nearby along with people going about their normal daily routine only to suddenly see an odd group of strangers appear in the road.
"Did we make it?" Jane asked.
Everyone looked around to see they were in a human town with some of the townspeople still confused but some had recognized Thor and began taking pictures.
"We're here." Thor replied.
"Question is where are we?" Sif wondered so Jane took out her scanner and it had their GPS location.
"We're in Norway." She told them.
"Norway? Good. That's close enough." Will quickly pulled up his hood and his mask activated. "EDI, you there?"
"I'm here, Will." She replied.
"Good. Send to SHIELD that we have a priority-Alpha event and I need all available agents in London to evacuate Greenwich as quickly as possible and SHIELD to secure the area around Greenwich university. I don't care how it gets done but it needs to get gone quickly. And send work to Tony and Bruce to get to England as fast as possible." He told her so she sent the communique to SHIELD while he used his communicator to contact someone else before he floated up into the air and surrounded the others in a shield and lifted them as well. "We're heading to Greenwich. If you get sick during the flight…sorry."
Will flew as fast as he could while bringing Jane, Sif, Frigga, and Volstagg with him. Thor spun his hammer and flew with him. They didn't have much time before Malekith sensed the Aether and would be on his way.

Greenwich, London
SHIELD put the word out and with the help of the local police an evacuation notice was ordered. Greenwich was quickly emptied with the police forming a barrier to keep everyone back while SHIELD set up a barricade around Greenwich university. SHIELD field agents were in heavy duty gear and were strictly ordered to maintain the perimeter while Thor and the Asgardians along with a special team handled the threat. Two members of said special team were currently hard at work. Darcy and her intern Ian were running around Greenwich university placing Dr. Selvig's gravimetric spikes into the ground around the area. True to Will's word, a SHIELD agent picked him up from the psychiatric ward and took him to the SHIELD facility where he was able to perfect the design for his gravimetric spikes. When Will and the others arrived to tell them off the plan, Dr. Selvig's work would be getting a field test.
Dr. Selvig and Dr. Foster were up in a SHIELD van at the far perimeter to monitor things while a SHIELD drone gave them a visual picture. "Jane, how are we looking?" Dr. Selvig asked, monitoring the data they were getting from the spikes.
"Data is coming through nice and clear. Wormhole energy signatures are coming in clear and I've got them mapped out." Jane said, bringing them up onto a screen that had a large map of the University. She overlapped the data and several spots were highlighted indicating that these were positions where wormholes would open. "Data is good and clear. Darcy, put in the last one and hurry back."
"Working on it." Darcy said into her phone as her intern finished hammering in the last spike.
"Is this plan gonna work?" Ian, her intern asked.
"Hell, if I know." Darcy replied. "As if Will wasn't doing great enough already but he's an Avenger now? So not fair."
Once they were finished, Darcy and Ian ran away as fast as they could to a safe area. Dr. Selvig monitored the data which is when the spikes picked up something closing in. "Jane do you see that?" He pointed to the screen and something huge was coming in.
"Thor, he's here." Jane radioed in.
Thor along with Sif, Fandral, and Volstagg were in the main courtyard of the university and they could see the Dark Elf mother ship de-cloak as the bottom half dug through the river and then tore up the ground as it made its way into the courtyard. It kept digging through the ground until it stopped. A massive alien ship that was as tall as a skyscraper. The area was evacuated so there wasn't any immediate harm but their arrival was definitely known.
"Yes he is." Thor replied as the elevator on the ship descended to the ground and out walked Malekith, his Kursed soldier and dozens of Dark Elves. Malekith spat on the ground when he walked out, feeling like he was stepping onto garbage especially since he was on Midgard of all places. But it wouldn't matter for long once he had the Aether. He saw a wormhole open up in the sky as the Convergence was now at its peak alignment.
"I suppose I should thank you, Asgardians. Saving me the trouble of hunting you down and then racing to the apex of the Convergence. I can sense it nearby. Where is the human?" Malekith ordered.
"You're not getting to him. It's over, Malekith." Thor declared.
"You have many Asgardian lives to answer for, Dark Elf. Surrender and we may be merciful." Sif readied her sword.
"Worthless lives! Your universe was never meant to be! And soon it shall be extinguished!" Malekith raised his hand and then slammed it into the ground, releasing a pulse of dark magic that knocked them back. Sif raised her shield and Thor raised his hammer to cover himself. The cannons on the giant ship powered up and began raining down hellfire on the Asgardians so they split up with Thor and Sif going right while Fandral and Volstagg went left.
His Dark Elf troops marched forward and began shooting their energy blasters at the fleeing Asgardians when an arrow was fired high into the air. It hit one of the cannons and exploded, taking the cannon out with it. The arrow came from Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye who was perched up in the tower of the University, giving him a perfect vantage point. He took out a special arrow with a green arrow head and fired it down at the Dark Elves. It hit the ground near the Dark Elves and created large explosions that killed them or sent them flying back. The other cannons on the ship aimed at the tower when something smashed into it causing it to fall back and crash into the river. Said thing was the Hulk, who was wearing his fancy new stretchy pants made by Tony. Much better than just the ripped pants he would usually have on when he went Hulk. The Gamma Giant proceeded to break, tear, and thrash the cannons and hull of the giant ship.
"You know, when I heard that Elves were attacking I was thinking more Santa's little helpers and not grey-skinned guys with creepy porcelain masks." Clint remarked as he shot an arrow at a Dark Elf on the ground and killed him with a headshot.
Malekith growled in anger and annoyance before he looked over at his men near their spacecraft. "Release the ships! Destroy this city!" He said in Elvish and they nodded.
They got back into the giant ship that the Hulk was still tearing apart. Several doors on the massive ship opened up and four sword-like ships flew out at fast speeds. Hulk happened to be near one of the doors so he grabbed on and was taken for a ride. His large fingers dug into the ship and he proceeded to break though it.
"Hulk smash ship!" Hulk roared as he punched through the cockpit and the ship crashed down into the river.
The other three ships began flying away into the city when one of them was hit by a missile barrage and two powerful energy blasts. They tore through the ship and it crashed into the ground. The Dark Elf pilots looked to see who attacked them and it was the Armored Avenger Iron Man in the Iron Man Mark 43 armor. Flying next to him was War Machine in the War Machine Mark 2 which was a similar suit to the Iron Patriot but back to the regular black color scheme.
"Ha, I still can't believe this. We're fighting elves." Tony chuckled.
"Tony, focus. They're heading to the city." Rhodey told him.
"All right. You get the one on the left and I get the one on the right. Let's go." Tony and Rhodey split up, each chasing after one of the ships.
Fandral and Volstagg were fighting several of the Dark Elves on the western part of the campus, using their respective weapons. Fandral was fighting against the Dark Elves bladed forearm weapons using his rapier, effortlessly parrying their attacks, and then cutting them down. Volstagg cleaved a Dark Elf's head off his body with his mighty two-headed Axe and then grabbed one which he headbutted and tossed aside. Three Dark Elves raised their blasters at Volstagg when a grenade landed near and exploded, taking them out. Two small pellets were thrown and exploded in bright flashes of light with loud ear-ringing sounds causing several Dark Elves to stagger. Several small taser disks hit one of the Dark Elves and stunned him before Black Widow raced forward slashed him across his leg with her knife, took one of his forearm swords and then slash him across the throat. She fired a grapple hook from her Widow's Bite gauntlets at one and pulled him into a flying head-scissors takedown before tasing him in the back of the head with her gauntlets. She took out her pistols and shot down two Dark Elves with continuous bullets to the head and neck before quickly sidestepping a sword to the back. She grabbed the Dark Elf's arm, broke his wrist, and took him to the ground with a flying arm bar before unsheathing her garrote wire and strangling him.
Fandral and Volstagg watched with intrigue at the female human who took down several Dark Elves with brutal efficiency. "I think she and Lady Sif would make good friends." Fandral remarked.
On the Eastern part of the campus, Sif and Thor were taking down the Dark Elves that had followed them. Sif blocked several energy bolts with her shield before closing the distance and cutting them all down quickly. She blocked and parried an attack from the side before kicking the Elf in the stomach and then driving her sword through his back. She pulled out her blade and turned into a wide slash that beheaded two more. Thor sent two Dark Elves flying back with a swing of his hammer and kicked another back into a wall when he saw Malekith and the Kursed walking away from the battle.
"Malekith!" Thor spun his hammer and flew straight only for the Kursed to intercept him. He knocked Thor aside with a single punch and walked over to kill him. A Dark Elf saw Thor on the ground so he raised his rifle at him only to get an arrow straight through the head.
"And we've got a bigger guy to deal with. How do we deal with him?" Clint wondered, removing his empty quiver, and putting on a new one. He pulled out two explosive arrows and fired them at the large Kursed but when they hit all they seemed to do is piss him off. "That's not good."
The Kursed took out a singularity grenade and threw it at the tower Clint was in so he jumped out and fired a grapple arrow. The grenade destroyed the tower but Clint swung through the air and landed on the roof of the nearby library. He took out three arrows and shot three Dark Elves who were trying to sneak attack Sif when he saw the Kursed looking at him so he fired smoke arrow and ran. The Kursed ripped up a large chunk of the ground to throw when Mjølnir hit him from behind and knocked him into the ground before flying back into Thor's hand.
"Your fight is with me." Thor raised his hammer up into the air and summoned a bolt of lightning before bringing it down right onto the Kursed. Despite being hit by a literal bolt of lightning, the Kursed managed to power through it and charge Thor. Thor threw his hammer but the Kursed knocked it aside and knocked Thor to the ground. He got on top and proceeded to punch his face in when he himself was sent flying by a large green fist to the face.
The Kursed got up and saw a large green monster wearing purple pants standing next to Thor. "You hurt Hulk's friend! Hulk only person who hurts Hulk's friend! Hulk smash you! RAH!"
The Hulk ran full speed at the Kursed and tackled him off the ground where the two ended up going through a nearby wormhole. "Oh, that's probably not good." Clint pointed out just as Iron Man and War Machine came back from dealing with the flying spaceships which were now currently smoking wrecks or nothing more then small pieces of debris.
"Where'd the Jolly Green Giant go?" Tony asked.
"He could be anywhere in the Nine Realms." Thor told him.
Jotunheim
Hulk continuing tackling the Kursed into the icy depths of Jotunheim before smashing him into frozen tundra that was the ground. The Kursed got up and fought back, punching the Hulk in the face and even blocking some of his attacks but that just made the Hulk angrier. Hulk grabbed him by the face and smashed him into the ground before grabbing him by the leg and throwing him into a mountain. The Kursed got up just as the Hulk tackled him and proceeded to pummel him through the side of the mountain. All that could be seen was a large hole getting bigger with larger cracks being made in the mountain and the thunderous sounds of Hulk fist meeting the Kursed. Soon enough the Hulk managed to punch the Kursed through the other side of the mountain where he ended up going through another wormhole.
Earth
The wormhole dropped the Kursed back into Greenwich a few blocks from the university. Despite his enhanced physiology, the Kursed barely survived the beating it had just endured. He picked up his head only for the Hulk to appear out of the same wormhole and land feet first on his head. Hulk then kept smashing his foot onto the Kursed head until it was nothing more then a broken pile of goo.
"RAHH!"
Tony and the others heard the Hulk yell a few blocks away. "Ok, he's back."
The others joined them as they saw the wormholes up in the sky moving into alignment. "Where's Malekith?!" Sif shouted when they heard a loud boom and Malekith's body landed in front of them in an impact crater. From the twitching and moving he was alive but he was bloody and bleeding.
"There he is." Thor said as they saw Aegis hover in the air with the Aether in the containment device. "I trust that everything went according to plan and you had sufficient time?"
"I did. I love it when a plan comes together." He quipped as he touched down.
Flashback…
The second that Greenwich was evacuated, Will isolated himself in the basement of the old science building which was the furthest from the river and apex of the Convergence. Doing this meant that Malekith wasn't right at the center if something went wrong and it would give him the time he needed.
"Will, we're in position. We'll buy you as much time as we can." Thor radioed to him.
"Thanks, Thor." Will took a deep breath and sat on the ground, opening the containment device, and placing it in front of him. "Ready, Professor?"
A motorized wheelchair strolled over to him belong to Professor Charles Xavier. "I'm ready if you are."
Will nodded and looked over at Logan who was keeping watch of the Professor. "Go ahead, Kid. If he gets here I'll buy you some time." Logan promised.
"Thanks." Will closed his eyes and focused in on the Aether flowing into his body. His blue aura enveloped his body as he began using his powers to pull the Aether from his body like before. His aura glowed as bright as lighthouse so Logan had to shield his eyes. Professor Xavier closed his eyes and focused his powers on creating a mental shield for Will while he focused on pulling the Aether out. Will entered his mindscape and could feel the Aether fighting him at every corner. He felt its darkness getting stronger so he had to do this now and not stop. He focused his powers and proceeded to pull at small parts of the Aether. The dark wisps of energy like smoke and ash were slowly grouped together and he then forced them out of his body.
Since Logan was the only other person present he was able to see what was going on. Will's blue aura began to fluctuate with red as he saw what looked like smoke get pulled out of his body from his mouth, nose, ears, and even through his skin like it was sweat. As Will was doing this, the Aether tried sapping at his strength and attacked his mind so the Professor protected him with a powerful psychic barrier. This would keep it from affecting Will and the use of his powers so he could fully focus on getting rid of the Aether. Logan had no idea what was going on but the fact that some of whatever was in Will was coming out had to be a good sign.
That's when Logan heard the sound of distant fighting along with loud thuds in the distance and what sounded like the echoing thunder of artillery cannons. The fighting must have started and it was getting intense. He closed the door to the room Will and the professor were in before walking down the hall where the only entrance. His smell picked up something foreign that he didn't recognized so he closed his fists and his six adamantium claws came out.
The door was blown off its hinges and came at Logan but he sliced it in two. Malekith walked forward and saw a feral looking man with metal claws. "Get out of my way, human. The more you keep me from the Aether the more painful your death will be." Malekith warned him.
"Sorry but you're not getting past me." Logan warned him. Malekith held up a small energy pistol that Logan sliced in half with his claws before he charged with intense swipes and slashes. Malekith ducked and dodged his attacks before taking out a sword to block his claws only for Logan's claws to cut into the metal. It made three large cuts that weakened its structural integrity so his next slash cut through it. Malekith leaned back to avoid a slash to the face but then felt something trickle down his cheek so he reached up and his fingers were stained black with his blood.
"You filthy animal!" Malekith punched Logan in the face but grabbed his hand in pain. Logan then headbutted him in the face, slashed him across the face and chest before kicking him back. Malekith growled in anger as his face was marred by three cuts.
"Bub you have no idea." Logan charged forward on the attack so Malekith summoned a dark magic shield. Logan's claws bounced off and gave Malekith a moment to pull dark magic into his hand and punched Logan in the chest. The magic imbued his attack with enough power to send Logan flying back. He hit the ground hard and his chest was bleeding with several large cuts but they quickly healed. Logan got back to his feet when he saw the bright blue light coming from Will's room vanish before a powerful explosion of psychic energy flared out. It blew the door off its hinges and knocked Logan and Malekith back. Logan pushed the door off him and got up, the cuts and bruises on his face healed up before rushing into the room to see if Will or the Professor were hurt. "Chuck!"
Logan saw the professor and Will surrounded by a protective blue telekinetic shield. The shield vanished and Logan saw the containment device was closed and had a red glowing core inside. The Professor and Will were sitting still but soon they opened their eyes. "Everything ok?" Logan asked them.
Will threw his hand forward and Malekith froze in place right behind Logan before being thrown back into a wall. His body was frozen in place and he couldn't move before he was sent flying back down the hallway.
"Better then ok." Will stood up, feeling better then ever with the Aether finally out of his body. He walked out into the hallway and looked over at Malekith. His blue aura came back and flared like a raging fire before he unleashed a powerful telekinetic push that hit Malekith like a fully raging Hulk wielding a club made of Adamantium.
It hurt.
End of Flashback…
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief that Will was all right, the Aether was contained and Malekith didn't get it. Will tossed it over to Sif who hooked it onto her belt.
"It's over, Malekith. You have lost." Thor told him.
Malekith, despite his injuries, managed to push himself up out of the crater he was in. "I have not lost. If I cannot have the Aether…then I can at least rob you of your victory!" Malekith activated the four singularity bombs on his belt. He was going to kill himself and take out everyone with them. The black hole those bombs would suck them all in. "DIE, SON OF OD—"
"Meow!" A cluster of tentacles grabbed onto Malekith and pulled him away until he eaten. Well, not exactly eaten but close enough as the tentacles pulled Malekith and the singularity bombs into the mouth of Goose who proceeded to eat both like it was nothing. And again, not eat but trap into Goose's personal pocket dimension but close enough. Malekith was dead and everyone was safe. "Meow."
Goose licked his paw as Will walked over and scratched him on the head. "Good boy, Goose. Good boy." Goose purred in delight as Will scratched him all over.
"That is one freaky cat you've got there, kid." Tony told him.
"Kitty…" Hulk smiled and gingerly pet Goose on the head with one of his fingers and the Flerken liked it.
"You have a Flerken as a pet?" Thor questioned.
"A Flerken? You mean that thing's an alien?" Clint asked in disbelief.
"Yeah but relax. He's friendly. And I've strictly told him to never eat or hurt anyone I tell him not to." Will promised as he looked up at the wormholes of the Convergence slowly moving out of alignment. That's when he noticed the giant Dark Elf ship currently in the river and thinking it was a good idea if it wasn't around he could send it through a portal. He raised his hands at the ship and it was slowly lifted off the ground. Will sent it up into the air and through one of the portals just before it closed. "There. Clean up got a lot easier."
"This was a weird day." Natasha said and everyone agreed.
Still, it was a win and they saved the world.
Again.
End of Chapter 16
1). This was Season 1 Episode 9 Repairs. It's not a super important episode so it has happened off screen with the original team and goes just like it does in the show.
I hoped you guys liked the chapter. This one dealt with Thor the Dark World. An MCU film that I think we can all agree is one of the most forgettable ones in Thor's library. Malekith and the Dark Elves aren't really anything special so they're gone now. Still, I made it work for the story and I changed up a lot of things which will have consequences going forward. But above all, I hoped you liked it. We got another Avengers Team up with some cameos from the X-men and She-Hulk.
Next chapter, we deal with the aftermath of the battle of London including what's going on with Asgard and Will meets up with Coulson to handle the cleanup and then get tasked with handling the hunt for an Asgardian relic. After that, Will is contacted by a friend who is worried that a friend of theirs is acting normal. And the reason for that is a British douchebag with a purple suit and creepy powers that he's abused, enthralling his friend and a PI with alcoholism. Until then, stay safe and healthy out there guys!
Updates: The Perfect One went up today and The Spectacular Spider-man will also go up on September 30th but if it doesn't then it'll go up on October 2nd. Updates for October will be three chapters. One for Omniverse Earth-38, one for Mandalorian Maverick and one for Crimson Speedster. A Happy Halloween indeed!
