(Violet's Pov)
I was woken up to something being thrown at my face and I groaned a bit as I pulled the jacket away and looked to see Ruby and Clementine looking down at me with smiles.
"Come on, up, we got to hurry up and head out." Clem says and I groaned a bit and get up anyway. I had gotten so use to being able to sleep in when I could but now I had to be on a schedule again. I hurried and got ready as Clementine filled up my bag which she didn't have to do but I grabbed the bag and she grabbed hers and we hurried out to meet up with Louis and the others. We got in the back of the small truck and Luke began to drive us to our next location.
"Hey snagged you an apple." Louis says as he hands it to Clementine.
"Thanks Louis." She says and he moved to take a seat next to her and I looked to the side a bit and watched the road.
"So, Clementine I was thinking maybe we could maybe hang out a bit, you know talk?" Louis asked her and I look down to her.
"I think we should get our jobs done before we just chat you know." Clementine tells him and I grabbed the railing on the truck as we hit a few small bumps.
"I know I mean when we set up camp you know." He says and I loo to him a bit.
"I… suppose but right now let's worry about our task." She tells him and he nods at this. We kept an eye out for any enemies in the area but lucky for us we didn't see any at all. We reached the next camp and parked the truck and then went on foot once we found out that enemies were near the area. We kept walking for what seemed like an hour before a shot rang out and we ducked down for some cover and I groaned as I hit the ground a bit hard.
"Everyone good?" Luke asked and we sounded off and I grabbed the rifle off my back and tried to look for where the shot rang out. I look to Marlon as he got up a bit and then another shot rang out and there was blood hitting my face as he dropped to the ground.
"MARLON!" Louis yelled and he was about to get up but I grabbed his jacket and pulled him back down before his head got blown off too.
"Let me go, fucking MARLON GET UP!" Louis yelled and I covered his mouth and he almost bit me.
"Fucking stop, stop it, Louis." I say and he tried to hit me but Mitch grabbed him.
"Louis stop." Mitch says and Ruby grabbed Marlon and pulled him away as best as she could and I look to Clementine who was in a good hiding spot as she aimed her rifle at something and I held Louis down with Mitches help.
"They shot him, they fucking shot him." He cried and I look to Mitch as he looked to me. Aasim began to radio in to whoever and Omar came over to us and he grabbed Louis for me and I nod and moved away from them. I go over to Clementine and get beside her.
"Where?" I asked as I got my rifle ready and looked around as best as I could. I see Aasim remove his bag and try to call for backup but then it was shot at and he throws it to the side since it was useless now.
"Can't see them, it's open fucking land and I can't see anyone." She says pissed and I looked around more and then looked to Marlon and then back to the field and I dropped my bag and ran over to Marlon as a shot rang out and then another and I dropped down next to Ruby and Marlon and looked him over. There was no saving him, it was dead Center in his skull and I grabbed his helmet.
"The fuck are you doing?" Ruby asked pissed.
"Clem can't see them and I am not getting shot at again, the helmet trick works." I say as I look to Clementine who looked to me and I nodded as does she and I throw the helmet up but it wasn't a shot that hit it, there was a grenade that went off a few feet from Ruby and I.
"SHIT!" She yelled and I grabbed her.
"Go over to Louis and the others." I tell her.
"What about Marlon?" She asked.
"He's dead, we can get him later." I say to her.
"Fucking hell… fucking bullshit." She says as she went over to Louis and checked him over as I looked to Marlon and grabbed his pistol and I got up a bit and just shot to the side as did Luke and then another grenade went off near me almost in my face and I backed up a bit and took a few panicked breaths and looked around. Mitch comes over to me and hands me a grenade and he had his own and he nods as he throws a grenade and it blows up and I throw mine and it blows up and we hear some screams and we backed up a bit.
"I STILL CAN'T SEE ANYONE!" Clementine yelled and I look to her as she looked around with her rifle and I take a few shaky breaths as I tried to think of something.
"I have some fire bombs; it'll start burning the dry land we can make a run for it." Mitch says and I look to him.
"Warn the others before throwing it, I'm going to head back over to Clementine and tell her, maybe it can scare the sniper." I tell him and he nods as he goes to the others and I go over to Clementine.
"This is fucking bullshit." She mutters and takes a shot and I moved her rifle before she could take another one.
"Mitch is going to throw a fire bomb, might set fire to the dry land, we can use this to head back out." I say and then I see a flash of light to the front of us and I pull Clementine down before another shot was fired and I hear her taking deep breaths. I quickly grabbed my rifle and took aim at where I saw the flash and I see the person run from the spot and then there was flames and I set the rifle down to see Mitch had thrown the bomb.
"DAMN IT!" I yelled and Clementine grabbed my jacket and pulled me away an I follow her.
"WE HAVE TO GET MARLON!" Louis yelled as he tried to go to the body but Mitch was holding him back. I quickly go over to them and took his hands off Louis and I look to Louis.
"You grab his legs I got the top half; we have to do this quickly." I tell him and he nods as we hurry over to Marlon and he grabbed his legs and I grabbed Marlon's top half and just as we were about to go, I hear a bomb go off right behind me.
"MOVE IT NOW!" Clementine yelled and we ran as best as we could. When we got to the woods I tripped and accidently dropped Marlon and Louis fell down too and I back up when I see Marlon looking at me and I hit a tree with my back.
"Jesus… fucking hell." I say and make a cross with my hand and grabbed my dog tags a bit.
"Shit are you ok?" Clementine asked and I nod quickly.
"Yeah… yeah I'm fine, Jesus fuck." I mutter and I lay my head back on the tree.
"Fucking hell, was no one watching for enemies?" Luke asked and I glare at him.
"The fuck is your issue man?" Mitch asked him pissed off.
"My problem is, your friend was an idiot." Luke says and I get up.
"We couldn't find the damn sniper." I tell him.
"You need to get your fucking eyes fixed than." He tells me.
"THEY KEPT MOVING YOU PRICK; YOU DIDN'T GET ANYONE NOW WE HAVE A DAMN FIRE TO WORRY ABOUT AND YOU DIDN'T DO SHIT EITHER!" I yelled at him and he shoved me and I shoved him back.
"Woah stop this." Aasim says as he grabbed me and Mitch grabbed Luke and I glare at him.
"Luke I couldn't see anyone; I don't know how they did it but they hid very well." Clementine tells him and he looked to her then to me.
"Do better next time." He tells us and get's out of Mitches grip and I glare at him.
"What do we do with him?" Louis asked as he looked to Marlon and I look to the body as well.
"We need to get a vehicle or carry him back to the camp." Aasim says and I put my hands to my hips.
"Louis and Omar do you two think you can get back to the camp and get the truck?" I asked.
"Shit man I don't know." Louis says and I look to him.
"Ok… ok you stay here and I'll go get the truck…. Need to get a new bag if I can." I mutter and looked to the smoke in the distance.
"Yeah… fucking hell." Louis says as he goes back over to the body and I look to the others and they just went over to Louis. Clementine comes next to me and I look to her I sighed and grabbed my jacket as I put it over Marlon's face and Louis looks to me and I shake my head a bit as I back up and start heading back to the camp. I hear someone next to me and I look to see Clementine and I look back to the front.
"I'm sorry I just… I couldn't find them." She tells me.
"Nothing to be sorry about, they had the upper hand, plus with grenades we didn't know how many were really there." I tell her.
"Luke said something about our leave time making us forget what we're here to do." She says and I glare a bit at anything.
"He went on leave too, he needs to keep his damn mouth shut, he hasn't been here that long yet he got three months home." I mutter as we kept walking.
"I'm sorry about your bag." She says.
"Stop saying sorry, I left it, it's my fault." I tell her.
"I just… I don't know." She says to me and I look to her as we kept walking.
"Clementine, you did nothing wrong, he didn't get anyone either he's a stupid man that wants to blame others because he doesn't want to be remembered as the guy that fucked up, he can wallow in self-pity all he want's but he fucked up…. Marlon should have never stood up when he did either." I say to her as we kept walking.
"We just get back and all this happens." She says and I look to the side a bit.
"Shit happens, it's life, it's war." I tell her as we kept walking. We stayed silent for the whole time will we reached a camp and explained the situation. They gave us some extra supplies and a new radio for communications since Aasim had lost his. They gave us a truck and I grabbed the keys and get in as Clementine gets in the passenger seat and I hurry back to the others. It was a shorter time than walking but still long with the silence, the flames seemed to have diminished a bit at this point but we were careful as we set Marlon in the back of the truck and the others got in.
"Get out." Luke says and I glare at him.
"Fuck you get in the back." I tell him.
"I am your-."
"You are shit to me right now, get in the fuck back before I blow your brains out." I warned him.
"Woah Vi-."
"NO!" I yelled and glared at Clementine and she looked to Luke and moved her head in a motion telling hm to get in the back. He does and I hurry to drive us back to the camp.
"I'll have your ass for this disrespect." Luke says.
"Fuck you man, you're a piece of shit leader, you want to blame Clementine and I for not being able to find the sniper but you didn't do shit, at least we fucking tried." I say clenching my hands on the steering wheel and I glare at the rearview mirror.
"I'll have your ass sent back-."
"AND THEN WHAT? GET CLEMENTINE AND MY FRIENDS KILLED?!" I yelled as I quickly slam on the breaks making him fly up a bit and I grabbed his jacket making him look at me.
"VIOLET!" I hear as someone tries to take my hands off his jacket and he looks to me.
"Threaten me with your bullshit one more time and I'll make sure Marlon's death is on you, I can easily tell them you're a fucking enemy everyone here is on fucking edge some people wont think twice and pull their guns on you." I say and shove him back and I begin driving again. This time he kept his mouth shut and I kept my eyes to the road before we hit the camp again and the other soldier helped grab Marlon from the back.
"Shit they were closer than before." One of them says and I just stay seated in the truck.
"I get it you're mad but don't threaten him like that." Ruby says and I glare at her a bit.
"Bastard needs to learn to not push us around, we are not friends with him and we never will be friends with him, we were asked to go with his group not ordered." I say as I get out the truck and look to Louis as he just kept looking at Marlon. Omar was by him as well and I shake my head a bit before someone comes up to us.
"Kenny?" I hear and look to Clementine as she looked to the man as he comes over to us.
"Clementine? What are you doing here?" He asked.
"What are you doing here?" She asked as they go and talk for a bit. I go over to Louis and Omar and I look to Louis as he just looked down at Marlon's body.
"They're going to send his body back as soon as they can." Louis tells me and I nod at this.
"Jesus we just get back and this shit happens, he should have stayed down, he should have just…. Stayed down." He mutters and I place my hand on his back.
"When we go on leave again or when this shit is over with we can go visit him." I tell Louis.
"Fucking hell." Louis mutters and I nod at this. I moved away a bit and grabbed a cigarette and lit it up and handed it to Louis and he looks to me and takes it and I grab another one and lit it as well. Louis takes a breath and I see the look in his eyes.
"You should bring Marlon back home." I say to him.
"I can't." he says.
"You can and you will… you need to be there." I tell him and he looked to me then back to the body.
"They will just send me back here." He says to me as he takes another drag of the cigarette.
"Not if you need time to mourn." Omar says and I look to him.
"I'm not family." Louis says and I look over to Clementine as she comes over to us.
"Kenny will be with our group for a while, we need to head to the next camp, more people were found, explosions and stuff." Clementine explained and I nod at this and I pat Louis on the back as Clementine and I went off on our own.
"I don't think we can make it to the other camp if they have that area blocked off." I mutter and think a bit before I look over to Marlon.
"What are you thinking?" Clementine asked and I look to her.
"Marlon is the only guy I know that keeps very detailed maps… only problem is… we would have to… search him for it and I don't think Louis would let us." I tell her and she looked to Marlon and Louis and I rubbed the back of my neck and looked to the side.
"Look, we can ask Louis in a bit, right now isn't the best time." She says and I nod.
"I know, I know but… we need those maps before they take the body." I say to her and looked to the side.
"We can go ask him in a bit." She says and I nod and I take a breath as I looked to the direction of where the enemies were. It wasn't long till I had gone up to Louis before they were to take Marlon's body and I stop them.
"What are you doing Violet?" Luke asked pissed and I looked to Louis.
"We need… Marlon's maps." I tell Louis and he looked to me.
"Shit I didn't… fuck." Louis mutters and we gently look through any of Marlon's pockets and I feel someone grab my shoulder and I was turned to see Luke looking at me.
"You're looting his corpse? Have you no shame?" He asked.
"Dude stop, Marlon has the maps, she's right we need them…. And you have no right, Marlon would want us to have the maps." Louis says and I shove Luke back and we find anything on Marlon and I pulled out what seemed to be a letter and I look to Louis and hand it to him as he grabbed one of Marlon's notebooks and he looked to me. He takes the letter and sighs as he puts it back in Marlon's jacket and then a soldier comes by and puts a white cloth over Marlon and I grabbed his jacket under the sheet.
"This was all he had, the rest might be in his bag, Ruby has that." Louis says and I nod and we head over to Ruby and Louis grabbed Marlon's bag and he looked through it.
"What are you two doing?" Aasim asked.
"We're going to blow those bastards up." I mutter as Louis and I set out the maps and looked to them.
"Finally, some fucking revenge." Mitch says as he comes over to us.
"We are not going anywhere." Luke says and I look to him.
"You might not get this when it comes to our group Luke, but we are not going to just sit here and let them get away with killing our friend, so back the fuck off." Louis says and I look to him then I feel a hand on my shoulder and look to see Clementine as she looked to the maps as well.
"If they are camped out here, we can plant some bombs here and here." Clementine mentions and Mitch looks to the map as well.
"We can set traps here and here too, they'd have to come in our direction in order to escape, basically make it a fire squad." He says and I nod.
"You are not fucking listening." Luke says getting mad but neither of us listened to him.
"It's a fucking war crime." He says.
"It's all a fucking war crime." Aasim says as he point to some areas on the map where we could take cover if things get nasty and I grabbed a pencil and marked the areas off.
"What if they are innocent people?" He says.
"Innocent people my ass." Mitch says and gets in Luke's face as we all looked to them.
"You are all going to get us killed, and then what?" Luke asked.
"FUCK YOU, MARLON IS DEAD BECAUSE YOU WEREN'T LOOKING OUT EITHER SO SHUT UP!" Louis yelled and Mitch grabbed him before Louis could punch him.
"I'm in charge of this group." Luke says.
"The hell you are." I tell him.
"What is going on here?" I hear and look to see the man Kenny.
"Nothing." I mutter and keep looking at the maps and I take a breath.
"Ok so we have to go to this camp here, let's say they have people here and here." Aasim says as he points to other landmarks on the map.
"Doesn't seem like nothing to me." He says and I just keep looking at the maps.
"They want to basically kill all these people." Luke says.
"They killed our friend you mother fucker, so shut up and back off." Mitch tells him and I look to see Luke looking at Kenny for any help.
"I think they know what they are doing." Kenny says.
"You can't be serious? These could be innocent people they are going after." Luke says.
"Dude no innocent person would fucking hide they would surrender so they don't fucking die, you think everyone is innocent?" Mitch asked getting pissed off even more.
"WE DON'T KNOW THAT'S THE ISSUE WE HAVE RIGHT NOW!" Luke yells.
"BACK OFF!" Louis yelled and got in his face to where I had to leave my spot and pull him back before he hurt the man.
"Just get back to the map." I tell Louis and he comes with me and we look it over. We had a plan set up and decided we would go at night almost morning to set up the traps.
"You all are crazy." Luke says.
"Yeah well Marlon was our friend, not yours, he shouldn't have died like that." Aasim says.
"PEOPLE DIE ALL TH TIME!" He says and I feel Clementine grip my arm as I glare at the man.
"He should have never gotten up when he did, he was stupid." Luke says.
"SHUT UP!" Kenny yelled and we all look to him.
"Those people have been camping out there for weeks, take them out with the plan you got, then radio us when it's done, we will send more troops through to get more coverage on the land." Kenny tells us and I nod as we hurry and pack up the truck with anything we needed. Once that was done, Clementine and I got in the front of the truck and I start to drive us to the location on the maps.
"You really think this will work?" Louis asked.
"Clementine and I can scout the area easier when we hide, we can signal you on where to go and try to keep you covered, more than likely they will have people up and looking for us but it's the best plan we got." I tell him.
"Violet will be on the west side and I will be on the east side, we can signal each other before we signal you all on where to set the bombs and traps." She explained that two flickers will mean trap one will mean bomb. I kept driving till we got close and then shut the truck off and I quickly grabbed my rifle as everyone got out and I look to see Clementine grab hers. We started to head in front of us and everyone went to their positions and I look around a bit and then I look around to see we were alone. I quickly kiss Clementine on the cheek before I ran to my position and she ran to hers. I was able to get into the trees and I look through my scope to see a few enemy soldiers on the side and I see Clementine flash a message to me and I nod and flash a message back to her. We then flash a message to the others that there were enemy soldiers walking around so be careful. I look around and send a message to plant a bomb close to the west and Clementine flashes a message to place a bomb close to her east side.
"Fucking hell." I mutter as I look back to the enemies and they didn't see anyone from our side and I sigh and signal to Clementine and she signaled back to me that we were still good on her side. When we finished planting the bombs and setting the traps, There was a gunshot and I quickly look to see that the enemy were laughing as they fired a few rounds into the air wasting their bullets and then I see a message flash to the north and I look to Clementine as she flashed another message to me. I nod and flash a message to the others that we're good and that the enemy was being stupid and that Clementine and I would be back. As I climb down the tree I get slammed to the ground and a knife to my throat.
"FEIND! Feind genau hier!" (ENEMY! Enemy right here!). They yelled and I kept still as they keep the knife to my neck.
"Nein, kein Feind, Freund, ich bin ein Freund." (No, not an enemy, friend, I'm a friend). I tell them and they look to me.
"Du trägst feindliche Kleidung, du lügst." (You wear enemy clothes, you lie). They say and I clear my throat as many more come over to me.
"Damit sie mich nicht erschießen, bin ich ein Freund." (So they don't shoot me, I'm a friend). I try to convince them and they move the knife from my throat to my chest.
"DU BIST EIN LÜGNER!" (YOU ARE A LIAR!). They yelled before the knife is in my shoulder and I grip their jacket so I wouldn't scream in pain. God, it hurt so damn much, they twisted the knife and I glare at them before an explosion went off and they look away quickly and then there is a shot and they fall to the side and I gripped the knife.
"Fuck… fucking hell." I mutter and then I see Ruby next to me.
"Don't pull it out damn it." She says as she helped me up and I grabbed my rifle with my good arm and we hurry down for cover.
"Jesus fuck Violet." Clementine says as she hurried over to me and I waved her off and there were screams as another explosion went off and I look as Mitch used the detonator again.
"Are you ok?" Louis asked as he came over.
"Yeah just… fucking hurts like a bitch." I mutter as Ruby worked on trying to get the knife out.
"Can you move your arm?" She asked and I was able to move it a bit before it started to hurt.
"Yeah, just get the damn thing out." I say and there were more screams and then another explosion. I look as Aasim got on the radio and I take some deep breaths as Ruby pulled the knife out and then Clementine put pressure on my shoulder as Ruby got something and poured it on my wounds.
"Fucking hell." I mutter and grip Clementines arm a bit as I clenched my teeth and I look to Mitch as he got up.
"Fucking hell we blew that place up to kingdom come." He says and I nod and Ruby works on me more.
"Move the arm." She says and I do but it still hurt like hell.
"You might have some nerve damage; we have to get you to a better hospital." She says.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." I tell her and she looked to me.
"You are not fine you idiot; can you even pick up your rifle?" Clementine asked and I look to her as she helped Ruby.
"I can, just… fuck I need time to heal up." I tell her.
"They are sending more troops this way, just keep down incase there is more enemies." Aasim says and I nod but we get up a bit and move to another location. I sit with my back against a tree and I try to clench my hand into a fist but it hurt a bit to do so and I stopped.
"Clench your hand again." I hear and look to Ruby and Clementine as they come up to me and I do as told.
"You're fucking grimacing." Clementine says.
"So? Who wouldn't? It fucking hurts." I tell her and she glared at me a bit and then shakes her head and takes a seat next to me. The others were on their own as Ruby checked on them and I look to Clementine.
"Idiot." She mutters.
"I am not an idiot." I tell her.
"You are being stubborn than." She says and I look to the side.
"So what? I'm not broken I can still work." I tell her.
"Stop acting tough, admit it, you can't carry your rifle with your bad shoulder." She tells me.
"Yes, I can." I tell her.
"Then do it." She tells me and I grabbed my rifle but stopped as the pain got worse but I grabbed it anyway and held it.
"You're fucking shaking." She says and I see my arm shaking and I dropped the weapon.
"I am fine." I tell her.
"God damn it… you're one stubborn fool." She says and I look to her.
"You'd be one too you know." I tell her and she looks to me.
"Not like this." She says.
"Liar." I tell her.
"Fine damage yourself more, see if I care." She tells me just as she gets up and I quickly grabbed her arm and she looked to me.
"I'm… I'm sorry ok." I tell her and she takes a seat next to me once more and I look to the others.
"They ok?" I asked her.
"Yeah, a little shaky but the bombs were pretty loud." She says and I nod.
"That's good… are you ok?" I asked her and she nods but says nothing.
"You're a fool." She mutters and I look to the side a bit and then back to her as she looked to the others. I grab her hand gently with my good arm and she looked to me and I look to her hand.
"My shoulder and arm will be ok." I tell her and she sighed.
"You're going to be checked when we reach a damn hospital." She mutters and I look to her and we sit in silence. We hear trucks coming and I get up to see them coming near us. Clementine helped me on the truck as the other soldiers checked the others. They drove us somewhere and I look to see we were headed near a tent. My arm hurt a bit which I suppose was good since I could feel it but it burned. They stopped the truck and Clementine helped me off the truck and I go in to get checked on. The nurse was nice though and I would look to Clementine sometimes as she paid attention to what the nurse was saying.
"We're going to have to send you back to the states." She says.
"But-."
"No buts, we don't have the proper equipment out here and you could have some nerve damage from what I can tell." She tells me and I roll my eyes.
"I can still fight." I mutter.
"Violet." Clementine says and I shake my head.
"I'm fine." I tell them.
"You are not fine Mrs. Aldon." The nurse says and I glare at her a bit.
"I am not leaving." I say as I get off the cot and went to grab my weapon and my arm hurt again so I let it go.
"You have to, or your arm will get worse, and we can't have that." The nurse says and I shake my head. I grabbed my weapon with my good hand and walked out.
"Violet, god damn it." I hear Clementine say as I leave the tent.
"Violet stop." She says but I don't. She ends up getting in front of me forcing me to stop.
"You need to go back." She says.
"And what? Be sent back to Texas? To be told I can't do my job anymore? To be told I'm useless?" I asked her getting mad.
"You can go to Georgia, my dad won't mind-."
"I am not going to be a burden." I tell her.
"You aren't… and if you're worried about not coming back, who cares?" She says and I shake my head a bit.
"I do… Clem this is my whole life this is all I really know what to do." I tell her quietly and she looked to me.
"You can work with my dad and see what you can find back home." She tells me and I look at her.
"Home?" I asked and she looks at me and nods.
"Yes, it's as much as your home as it is mine." She tells me and I shake my head at this.
"I… I can't." I say and I head over to where the others were but Clementine got back in front of me and stopped me.
"Just… look we don't know how long this will last, go back home and let your arm heal up… if it gets better they'll send you back here." She says and I look to the side.
"No." I tell her.
"Why are you so hellbent on staying here?" She asked.
"Cause you're here." I tell her truthfully. It wasn't a lie that I didn't want to go back home because I did like the job I had, I mean like is a strong word but it's the first job I had, it's the only job I have had and I just felt like I had to stay and keep fighting.
"Because of me?" She asked and I nodded.
"So if I wasn't here?" She asked and I look at her.
"If I wasn't here?" She asked and I look to the ground.
"If you weren't here I'd still probably stay." I tell her and she placed her hand on my good side and leaned up to my ear.
"What if I was back home waiting for you?" She whispers quietly and then moved away so we could look at each other.
"I… I'd." I tried to say something but couldn't.
"What if that was the case?" She asked quietly and I just look at her.
"Would you want me to… come home?" I asked her and she nods. I look to the side a bit and then looked her as she looked to me.
"I would." She tells me and I take a breath.
"Can… I don't want them to tell me I can't keep working here." I tell her.
"I know… but it might happen, m-maybe they will let you work on the base." She tells me and I look to her.
"In an office?" I chuckled.
"Hey you could be a drill sergeant." She says and I laughed at this as does she. We stopped laughing and I look to her a bit.
"Just go home, get healed up… if they send you back here… I'll make sure we see each other." She tells me and I look at her a bit and nod gently.
"Ok… ok." I tell her and she nods as well and takes me back to the tent and the nurse looked to me a bit. She then made me a makeshift sling so my arm wouldn't dangle and my shoulder wouldn't be weighing down at least.
"We have transport coming for all the wounded in the next two hours." She informs me and I nod as they let me walk around a bit. They told me to try and clench my hand from time to time as well. Clementine made sure I did just that. We go over to the others as they were cleared and I looked to see the truck pass by with some bodies.
"Marlon's not in that is he?" I asked and looked to Louis as he also looked to the truck.
"Yeah, no choice… but they're sending his body back to his parents at least." Louis says and I take a breath.
"They're sending me back." I tell him.
"You're going back to Texas?" He asked and I rubbed the back of my neck a bit.
"I uh… I'm going back to Georgia… Clementine says her dad can help me find work if they decide to just… let me go." I tell him and he looked to me.
"Well, that's nice of him." He says and I nod a bit. Clementine made me clench my hand again and I do as told. Wasn't long till the transport came and I had to leave. I look to the others a bit before I had to get on the truck. Few days later I was in Texas, they had shipped me here and I was being looked at for my injury more.
"Alright, seems like there is no permanent nerve damage Mrs. Aldon, but you should take it easy for a while." The doctor told me and I look to him.
"Um… could it be possible that I transfer to the base in Georgia?" I asked and he looked to me from his papers.
"This one not good enough?" He asked and I started to stutter a bit before he laughed.
"Sorry just a bad joke, you should be able to get transferred there if you talk to your commander, also make sure to tell them you will be on desk duty, and if they need another opinion tell them that they can call me up and send you here to get checked on." He explained and wrote some stuff down and I nod. It took a week but I was able to be transferred to the base in Georgia. Currently I was down the road to Clem's parents land and I was about to walk down the road but I stopped myself. It was weird without Clementine here and I rubbed the back of my neck. I turned around and was about to head to one of the hotels they had but I hear a honk and I turn to see Lee in his vehicle.
"Violet?" He asked and I nodded.
"I uh… Clem um… she's fine nothing happened to her just uh." I tried to speak and he smiled a bit.
"She wrote us a letter saying you might come here… come on." He says and I nod as I get in the vehicle with him and he drove down the road a bit.
"How uh… did she say anything else?" I asked.
"Nah, haven't gotten a letter, but she sent you a few just incase you did come on by." He says.
"She wrote to me?" I asked and he nods and smiles.
"Yes, she did… so you and my daughter seem really close." He says and I rubbed the back of my head.
"She's a very nice girl, surprised she ain't married yet." I say and he laughed.
"Oh, I don't think she will get married, but if she did, I want that person to be kind to her." He says and I look to him. Granted many people have said person and not man or woman when talking about these things so I wouldn't say anything. We get to the house and I looked over a bit to see AJ running around the yard with the duck and I smiled a bit. Lee parked his car and we got out and AJ looked to me then the duckling did too and they both run up to me and I can't help but laugh at this.
"Ducky missed you a lot." AJ says and I nod and pet Ducky a bit.
"Go on inside real quick." Lee tells the boy who nods and then picked up the duck and heads inside and Lee laughed.
"Boy really likes that duck." He tells me and I nod at this and looked to Lee.
"Well, you know where Clem's house is, will you join us for dinner at least?" He asked and I nodded and he smiled to me and then heads into his home as I go over to Clementine's house. I head to the spare room and put my clothes up and then decided to listen to the radio a bit. a few hours would pass before dinner time and I head over to the house just as Lee was coming out and he let me in. We all took a seat at the table and talked a bit about what I could do while here.
"Well, I can pay some bills, lucky they didn't kick me out the army." I say and looked to them.
"What do you plan on doing after the war?" Carley asked and I look to her a bit.
"Uh… still plan to work in the army till I retire." I tell her.
"Well, that's interesting." She says and I look to her a bit.
"Interesting?" I asked as I take a drink of water.
"Well, most people don't want to keep working after a major war like this, why do you?" She asked and I think a bit.
"Carley, I don't think Violet wants to talk about that." Lee says.
"No, it's fine Mr. Everett… it's honestly the only job I have, even if they put me on office duty then I'll just do that." I tell them.
"Well, I'll be glad when Clementine comes home." Carley says and I nod.
"Heard she wanted to go to college." I say and I look to her.
"Stupid school… had they let her in she wouldn't be involved all this." Lee says and I nod a bit. After dinner, Lee handed me the letters Clementine wrote and I had taken the duck over to the house and it ran to my room and I chuckled and looked around a bit. I light a candle and took a seat on the couch and looked to the letter a bit. I then opened the letter and read it.
'Hey Violet,
It's me Clementine, as you should know. Hope this letter got to you, I hope you went to my home at least. You know I don't want any letters back for reasons but I want you to know we are ok, all of us are. I wanted you to know I hope you're ok, and that this war ends quickly, maybe by chance I'll hear something from you at some point. Anyway, I hope you're doing ok, I'll be sending more letters soon.

I read the letters and I chuckled at a few of them. I looked to the grandfather clock as it chimed a bit and I get up from the couch and bring the letters to my room. I set them in the drawer and looked to Ducky who was laying in their bed and I smile and pet them a bit. I head to my bed and lay down for a bit and look to the ceiling. I closed my eyes a bit and finally fell asleep. I woke up at four in the morning and then got ready for work. I was dressed up in my uniform and I grabbed my cap and headed out the door and Ducky ran out for a bit. I decided to have a cigarette before I would head out. I watched as the Duck ran about and then I opened the door and it ran back in and I laughed a bit. I closed the door making sure to leave a note that the duck was inside for AJ. I then head on out to the base. They sent me to work in an office and that's just what I did. I was sitting at my desk for a while then a few soldiers came over.
"Finally they got a secretary here." One man said.
"Dude shut it." Another one said and I look to them.
"What it's true, ain't that right missy?" He asked as he leaned on the desk.
"Would be wise to not lean on my desk like that." I tell him.
"Or what? Gonna hit me with your high heel?" He laughed and I stood up.
"First off I don't wear heels, secondly, I don't want your dirty hands messing up my clean desk." I tell him and he glared at me.
"JACKSON!" I hear someone yell and we both look to see the lieutenant.
"Um, yes sir?" He asked as the lieutenant came up to us.
"Get your damn hands-off Aldon's desk before I whack you in the head myself… show some damn respect." He tells Jackson and I look to the both of them and Jackson moved his hands off my desk.
"I was just-."
"I heard what you said boy and I will not have you disrespecting Aldon, she was over seas before you came in the Army, and she has seen some things, now get before I make you start digging trenches with grenades going off by your head." The lieutenant says and the man nods and heads out.
"Fucking fancy boy thinks cause his daddy is some oil tycoon he can do what he wants." The lieutenant mutters then looked to me.
"Uh thank you sir, I could have handled it though." I tell him and he laughed a bit.
"Oh, I know you could have, heard a lot about your group… I heard about Marsh too." He says and I look up.
"Marlon?" I asked and he nods.
"Yes, have you heard he's being buried in Arlington, well his ashes will be there but you know." He says and I look to the desk a bit.
"I didn't hear anything; his parents don't know about us… least I don't think they do." I tell him.
"Well just so you know the service is in a few weeks, if you're still here then me and the other officers are going to go see the ceremony." He says and I nod.
"That would be… nice thank you for telling me." I tell him and he nods.
"Now, get back to work." He says and I nod and sit back down. My arm started to hurt a bit after a few hours so I take a bit of a break and head out the office and get to the back area where I lit a cigarette and took a puff before I looked around. Not a lot of soldiers walking around at this time though when I look to my watch it was around the time where most are getting some form of lunch. I take another hit of my cigarette and I clear my throat.
"Hey mind if I bum one off you?" I hear and see a woman and I shake my head and hand her a cigarette and light it for her.
"Heard Jackson was giving you a little hell?" She asked and I nod.
"Yeah, but uh, Lieutenant got on to him." I tell her and she nods.
"Yeah, Lieutenant Kim is a good man… so heard you were overseas?" She asked and I nodded.
"Yeah, I was, kind of hoping I can go back." I tell her.
"Why would you want to go back? I heard it's something terrible over there." She says and I nod.
"I got friends over there." I tell her and she nods.
"What did you use to do? Were you a medic?" She asked and I shook my head as I took a hit from my cigarette.
"Nah was a sniper, I still am a sniper… one of my friends over there is one too, we're a great team." I tell her and she nods.
"I was suppose to be sent out there but… husband and I were expecting, so I couldn't." She says and I nod at this.
"Your husband in?" I asked and she shook her head.
"No, he had a concussion ten years back has seizures sometimes." She says and I nod at this and finish my cigarette.
"Best be heading on back to work." I tell her and she nods at this and I go into the building and back to my office.
"Aldon, you wan to get lunch with us?" I head and look to see the Lieutenant.
"Oh uh, I just took a break." I tell him.
"Come on, have lunch with us." He says and I nod and leave the desk and head out with the Lieutenant and his friends.
"So, Aldon, tell me about yourself." The major asked and I look to him.
"My job or my life?" I asked and he laughed.
"Well we can talk about your job." He says.
"I worked as a sniper, then got transferred here due to an injury." I tell him.
"Oh, an injury?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yeah, but it's not all that bad, I can still shoot." I tell him.
"Well how about this, you come with us down to the range and we see how good of a shot you are." He says and I nod. We ate lunch and afterwards we headed on down the range.it would be a full two months before I got another letter from Clementine and I was currently with AJ by the pond in the back.
"Letter from Clem." Lee says and I get up as he handed it to me.
'Dear Violet,
Hope you're doing fine, I seem to have forgotten how chatty Louis can be, but hey he's keeping morale up for us. It's sad to say I wish you were here, and I know you can't write me back but how are you? Are you doing your physical therapy? I swear if you aren't I'm going to make you wish you did. We finally got to one of the camps, I'm glad you weren't here to see that though, poor kids. Luke is being a bit of an ass, him and Mitch almost got into a fist fight but that's nothing new with this group. Anyway, I'll write to you soon.

I look at the note and go over the word love with my thumb a bit. I take a breath and clear my throat at the fact that she was able to write this. It was one more month when I was cleared and they said I could go back. I was actually happy about this. Now don't get me wrong Lee and the others were very kind to me, and I was glad that they allowed me to stay on their property, but I really wanted to go back. Getting letters from Clementine made me realize how much I missed her. I also missed my other friends of course but with Clem I couldn't help but worry about her. It would be a while but when I got back, they put me with a different group and I was currently working on cleaning my weapon a bit and we were currently guarding the entrance to the city limits. I was high up in the tower of one of the buildings and I look out to see nothing. I take a breath and get back to work on cleaning my weapon. The group I was with currently sucked if I had to be honest. They yelled when we had to keep quiet, the fact that they were just annoying was another thing, and to think I though Louis was annoying. I look back out to the fields to see some movement and I grabbed my spare scope and looked through it to see a group of people. I set the scope down and used my mirror to send a signal to the sergeant informing him that there were people coming. They all take cover and I look back though my scope and looked to the group of people and saw a familiar patch. I send a signal informing the sergeant and the group that these were our soldiers and I look back and smile as I see Clementine and the others. I hurry down the tower after grabbing my things and just as I got down, I see them talking to the sergeant and I run up to them and grabbed Clementine and gave her the biggest damn hug I could give her.
"Violet?" She asked as I pulled away from her and I nod.
"Y-yeah haha, hey." I laughed and she hugged me back and I hugged her more.
"Jesus, Violet when did you get back?" Louis asked and I look to him and then pull away from Clementine.
"About a month ago… Jesus I didn't think I'd see you guys again." I tell him.
"Wait they let you come back? How's your injury?" Ruby asked as she came over to us.
"I'm great, they said I healed up real good." I tell her and she looked to me and I showed her I was good.
"Alright." She says and I take Clem to the side a bit so we could talk on our own.
"I got your letters… I wish I could have written back." I tell her and she nods.
"Yeah... but you know me." She says and I nod at this. I then hugged her again and she laughed and hugged me back.
"You missed me that much?" She asked and I nodded and had my head near her neck.
"How could I not?" I asked her quietly. She patted my back gently and I hold her closer to me.
"Sorry I just… I just miss you." I tell her.
"It's fine." She says quietly and I nod. I looked to see that no one was looking at us and I kissed her neck gently and I feel her grip my shift a bit. I stopped and moved my head away and I took a breath before we headed back to the others.
"I'm sorry I'm short on people here I can't give Aldon up." The sergeant says and I look to him then to the others.
"Look we were told you had some people to spare and we just want Aldon." David says.
"She's the only sniper we got." The sergeant tells him.
"God damn it so what?" David says.
"So what? You already have one." Sergeant says and I take a breath and looked to the others a bit.
"Dude she's been with us since the beginning." Louis says and the sergeant glared at Louis.
"Get out and go where you are headed, I am not giving up Aldon." The sergeant says.
"Actually." I say as I grabbed some papers from my pocket and hand it to him. I made sure that before I left I asked the lieutenant for a favor. The sergeant was a bit upset at this but handed the papers back and nods to me.
"What was that?" David asked and I smirked a bit.
"The best thing about working on base is that I had to do a lot of work to get this favor." I tell him as I pat the pocket where the papers were.
"And you showed him this now why?" He asked as we began moving out and away from the group.
"They were being annoying the first day I arrived." I mutter and we kept walking.
"So, what's Violet been up to?" Louis asked as he put a hand over my shoulder.
"Well, they had sent me to Texas first for my medical, I asked to be transferred to Georgia, I almost didn't go to Clem's house." I say and she looked to me and I hold my hands up.
"Hey it was weird going there without you… by the way AJ and Ducky say hi." I tell her and she laughed at this.
"How is Ducky?" She asked and I told her everything, I even told them that I went to Marlon's services.
"Shit… we… hmm." Louis says and I look to him.
"He's in Arlington." I tell him and he nods a bit as we kept walking. It was a few hours before we finally took a break and we made camp setting up a small fire and I take a seat by the tree and Clementine hands me a piece of chocolate and I smiled as I took the piece and took a bite. It was a while before anyone went to sleep and it was just Clementine and I that were up. I look down to her as she had laid her head on my shoulder. I look up to the stars a bit and I rubbed the side of my face a bit and looked to my hand.
"Hey are you good?" Clementine asked and I look down to her as she looked up to me.
