(Clementine's Pov)
-Three Weeks Later-
Currently Violet was over at the base, they let her keep her job at the office and I was out of the service. They said she was an asset needed and they offered for us to stay but I was just tired. Though I hadn't been in long it was still hell. I was driving on base currently as Violet had forgotten her lunch, again. I pull up to her building and parked the car, I head in and see people walking around and I head to Violet's office and knock on the door.
"Hold on." I hear and then the door is opened and I see Violet as she smiled at me.
"Hey why are you here?" She asked and I hold up her lunchbox and she turned red.
"You forgot your lunch again." I say and then she smiles.
"Maybe I did it intentionally, maybe I wanted to see you on this boring day." She says as she lets me in her office and I set the box on the table and look to her as she closed the door.
"You could just ask you know." I tell her and she laughed.
"Well yeah but what's the fun in that?" She asked and I shrugged and she kissed my cheek.
"Thanks, sorry I forgot I was in a rush and it slipped my mind." She tells me and I take a seat.
"How is everything?" I asked.
"Boring stuff, they want to see if we should send another air raid, they even have people working on this thing called an atomic bomb." She says as she takes a seat at her desk and looked through the papers.
"Atomic bomb?" I asked and she nods.
"Yeah, I personally think they shouldn't use it, but that's not my job." She says and she takes a sandwich out and hands me half and we eat together.
"Oh, I also want to know what do you want for dinner tonight?" I asked as I take a bite of my half.
"How about something simple? Tomato soup with grilled cheese?" She asked.
"Alright, I just need to get some cheese, did you hear they're going to start rationing again." I say and she nods.
"Yeah, the army needs to send some food and supplies to the people over seas with how bad things have gotten… heard some women are working in the factories as well." She says and take a bite of her sandwich.
"I heard; lot of the men don't like that." I say and she hands me her thermos and I take a drink.
"Well, there is nothing we can do, lot of kids just getting out of school joining up, many of the soldiers that do come back can't work in the factories, but I heard that the mayor is working on something so they can work at something." She explained and I nodded.
"Is it bad that I hope the war ends before AJ is of age to join?" I asked and she shook her head.
"No, it's not, wouldn't want him to go in… We are trying to stop this but… that's what this bomb is supposed to do." She says and we finished up lunch.
"Aldon- oh hello." A man says and we look to him.
"Lieutenant, sorry I missed lunch." Violet says as she gets up.
"Oh, it's fine, you must be Clementine, Violet talks a lot about you." He says and I look to her and she smiled.
"Oh, she does?" I asked.
"Yeah, says you are an excellent shot, I'd like to see you two go up against each other at the range one day with how she praises you." He says and I laughed a little.
"Well, I should be off, I just came to have lunch with her." I tell him and he nods and Violet follows me out.
"Stay safe." She tells me and I nod and leave the building and head on home. I park the car by Lee's house and I head inside just as AJ was running out with one of his friends.
"Oh, AJ be back in time for dinner, I made your favorite." Carley says to him and he calls out that he will. I smiled and walked inside and saw Carley in the kitchen.
"Oh, hello Clementine." She says as she dried her hands.
"Hey Carley, I just wanted to know if you need anything from the store." I say and she nods.
"I do need some sugar and if you can corn beef." She says and I nod.
"I'm going to take the bike, have to save on fuel." I tell her and she nods.
"Oh, and Lee is at his parents house, seems his brother has gotten sick, would you mind stopping there real quick and drop this off." She asked as she hands me some basket and I nod. I go and grabbed the bike on the side of the house and rode over to Lee's parents' house. When I got there, I saw Lee talking with his father on the porch.
"Clementine nice to see you." Grandpa says and I smile as I set the bike on the side of the house and grabbed the basket.
"Nice to see you too Grandpa, how's Bud doing?" I asked.
"Poor boy is sick again, worse than last time." He says and I sighed.
"Well Carley made something for him and you guys." I say as I hold up the basket.
"Tell your wife I said thank you Lee, she's been a real sweetheart." His father says and Lee smiles and nods.
"What have you been up to Clem? You were in a bit of a hurry today." Lee says and I take a seat next to him.
"Oh, you know, Violet forgot her lunch again, I swear she'd lose her own head if it wasn't attached." I joke and they laughed.
"She's just been busy with everything." Grandma says as she comes out.
"Yeah, she has, they offered for me to work on the base too but I declined, can't really help when I can't see what's going on." I tell them and they nod.
"Heard on the radio that the war is getting pretty nasty over there." Grandpa says and I nod at this.
"Yeah, I heard too… anyway, I have to be going, I have to pick up some stuff from the store." I tell them and give them a hug and as I was about to hug my grandmother, she grabbed my hand ad looked to the ring.
"Oh, Clem that's a beautiful ring, have you finally found a potential husband?" She asked and I turned red.
"A ring?" Lee asked and I moved my hand a bit and put it behind my back.
"Oh, it's nothing, I just thought it looked nice." I lied.
"Oh, don't be shy, are they a good man?" Grandpa asked.
"… They are." I say quietly as I thought about Violet. No, we haven't told them about us just yet, we were waiting for the right time.
"Is he handsome?" Grandma asked.
"Hey looks aren't everything." Grandpa joked and we laughed.
"Yes, they are very handsome, especially in uniform, they look dashing." I say.
"Oooh a fellow military man hu?" Grandma asked and I nodded.
"Yes, they are." I say to them.
"Well invite them over for dinner next week, we'd love to meet the man." Grandma says and I rubbed my neck a bit.
"Is he overseas?" Lee asked and I shake my head.
"No, no they aren't overseas… I'll see if they can visit next week." I tell them and they nod and I head off to the store. To my luck I was able to get two pounds of corn beef, and a pound of sugar for cheap, the only thing I couldn't find was the cheese and I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck a bit.
"I could ask Hershel if he's willing to sell some." I say to myself as I looked to the milk and saw it was gone too. I looked around for some other items we could use at the house. There was then a broadcast on the radio and many people stood by it as the president spoke.
"In this hour I am sad to announce that we have lost two hundred soldiers on our own land, the enemy have sent planes close by and crashed into a military base in Alaska, we were able to capture enemy aircrafts before they were to make another attempt at an attack but I the president send my condolences to the families of the fallen, we are trying our best to keep the war overseas, and we have been working on a way to end the war quickly, keep hope citizens, keep hope." The president says and I look down a bit.
"This is an outrage, bomb the whole area." I hear a man say and I look to him.
"What about the innocent people?" I asked and many people looked to me.
"Who cares? To end this war, kill the lot." The man says and I shake my head.
"And have a major war crime on our hands? No one would trust us again." I tell him.
"We don't need no fucking foreigners to like us, they caused this, they should fear us." The man says and sadly many agreed.
"You'd rather have children who have no idea what's going on die?" I asked.
"Fuck them, they'll be soldiers in this war fighting for the wrong side." He says and I take a breath.
"Fucking bitch, you need to learn to keep your mouth shut, you have no idea what's going on over there, go back to your home and tend to your children, like the good housewife you are." Another man says and I glared at them but then shake my head.
"I know more than you." I mutter.
"Excuse me?" The man says and I shake my head.
"Nothing." I say and he nods.
"Good, now get." He says and I head to the checkout stand and pay for my things. I head on back to the house to see an unfamiliar car parked by my dad's house and I go and park the bike on the side of the house. I hear some laughing and I walk in and see Violet as she was helping Carley in the kitchen.
"Clementine." Violet says happy and I smiled and set the bag on the table and I come up and hugged her.
"Sorry, there was no cheese at the store, but I was able to get a pound of corn beef." I tell her.
"Oh, that does sound better than grilled cheese." She says and I laughed.
"Did you hear what was on the radio?" I asked as Carley grabbed her items and Violet was cleaning her face a bit.
"I already know, base in Alaska was attacked… they uh… want to send a few of us out there to help out." She tells me and I look to her and she raised her hands.
"I told them I would go but I would need some time, I'll only be gone for three months." She says.
"Three months?" I asked and she sighed a bit.
"It was either that or six months to a year, they let me have three because I need to be back here for other work." She explained and looked to Carley then to me and I nod. Guess she can't talk about the bomb they're working on and I nod.
"Alright when do you have to head out?" I asked.
"Hmm sometime next week." She says and I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck.
"But hey, they let me have the time off till then, so we can go to the park and stuff." She says and I nod and smile at her.
"Well Grandma invited all of us for dinner, so we can have a nice meal before you leave." I say and she nods. I didn't tell her the real reason but it wouldn't hurt to fib a little. Violet finished helping Carley out and we headed back outside and before we head to my house Violet stopped me and placed something in my hand.
"A key?" I asked and she nods and points to the vehicle.
"All yours, thought you'd like to stop asking your dad to borrow his, plus I got it real cheap only two hundred dollars." She says.
"That is in no way cheap." I say.
"Well I mean I had to get you a new one, didn't want it breaking down on you on the side of the road." She says and I sighed. I feel her come close to me and whisper in my ear.
"Plus think of it as a weeding gift for the both of us, but it is yours." She tells me and I look to her and smiled.
"Well thank you Violet." I say as we go to the house and I think a bit as we get started on dinner.
"About the dinner at my grandparents house." I say and she looked to me as I looked to her.
"They um… my grandmother saw the ring on my finger and thought… I'm engaged to a man." I tell her.
"Ok… um…" she tried to say something.
"I didn't tell them it was you… I don't know how they'll react." I tell her honestly.
"Well… if you're ok with them knowing, so am I... and they don't seem like the type to be against us being together." She says and I nod a bit. It would seem that time was against us because next week came faster than I'd like. Currently I was putting on my jacket, Lee and the others have already gone to his parents' house and Violet came in the room and I turn to look at her.
"This look good?" She asked and I smile as I go up and fix her tie a bit.
"Are you worried?" I asked and she nods to me.
"Very… very worried." She says and I smile and pat her chest a bit.
"I'm worried too… but it should go fine." I tell her and she nods a bit. I look to her hand and see the ring and I hold her hand gently and she held mine as well.
"This is worse than going to war." She joked and we both laughed at this.
"Oh really?" I asked and she nods.
"Your family, though nice scare me… though I think if you were marrying a man, they would still be scary for someone wanting to date or be married to you." She says and I smiled and kissed her gently.
"Well, I think they'll be happy if I'm happy." I tell her and she nods a bit and I grabbed her jacket for her.
"Now come on it's snowing a bit." I tell her and she nods. I grabbed the keys and handed them to her and she started up the car then came back in as it was warming up.
"Ok Ducky is in bed, weird but awesome, car is warming up, and you my darling look amazing." She tells me and I smiled at her.
"And you look handsome." I tell her as I go up to her and kiss her. She kissed me back and I smiled at her when we pulled apart.
"Oh, the wine." She says and I laugh as she heads to the kitchen.
"Violet it's going to be ok, don't worry yourself." I tell her as she comes back with the wine.
"I just… I just don't want them to be angry at me… I actually like your family." She says and I smile at her sad but gentle and I cup her face.
"And they like you too… now come on." I say and she nods as we head to the car. She opens my door and I get in and she hands me the wine before she closed the door and gets on the driver's side. She drove to my grandparent's house and parks the car on the street. She looked to the house a bit and then rubbed her pant legs and I look to her and kissed her cheek.
"Come on." I say and she nods as she shuts the car off and then we exit out and go up to the house. I opened the door as the wind started to blow hard and we get in covered in snow and I laugh as I take Violet's hat off.
"Freezing out there." She says and I smiled.
"Oh, Clem, Violet you're here." I hear my grandma say as I turn to her. She gives me a big hug and when she let go of me, she gave Violet a hug as well. Violet clears her throat a bit when my grandmother let her go.
"Oh um… I didn't know what you liked so." Violet says and holds the wine to my grandmother.
"Oh, it's fine dear, this will go well with dinner, now come on you two." She says as she takes us to the kitchen where everyone was seated.
"So, when is that handsome man coming over? You said he's be here." Grandma says as we take a seat and I grabbed Violet's hand under the table a bit.
"Um… well you see." I tried to say something.
"Did he cancel last minute?" Grandpa asked.
"No, just um." I tried to say and Violet clears her throat.
"I… I'm the one who… asked Clem to marry me." Violet says and I look to her then to the others as the room fell silent. No one said a single word and I could feel Violet hold my hand a little tighter.
"I uh… I'm sorry if… I'm sorry." Violet says quietly as she looked down to the table and then looked to my family a bit. The silence was deafening and I feel Violet grip my hand a bit.
"I uh… I know you probably don't accept this kind of relationship but I… I really like Clementine and." She stopped as my grandfather held his hand up and she looked back to the table.
"Now who said we didn't accept your relationship?" My grandmother asked and I look to her. Violet kept quiet and she shrugged her shoulders a bit.
"Lift you head up." My dad says and Violet takes a breath and lifts her head up and I rubbed her shoulder.
"You seem to make Clementine happy… are you happy with Violet?" My grandmother asked and I nod at this.
"I am." I tell her and she nods.
"Then that's all that matters." My grandmother says.
"Welcome to the family Violet." My grandpa says and I look to Violet as she was a bit shocked and I shake her shoulder a bit.
"I think you broke her." AJ says and I laughed a bit when she looked to me.
"I uh… need to step outside." She says as she got up from the chair and I followed her outside. She took a seat on the steps and I sit next to her.
"Are you ok?" I asked and she wiped her eyes with her arm a bit and then looked to me.
"Sorry just… oh fuck." She says and I laughed as did she.
"They… they scared me a bit." She says and I nod.
"Yeah, I was a bit scared too… almost wanted to get out the chair and leave." I admitted and she looked to me a bit and I smile.
"I'd like to sit out here for a bit… I'll be back in I promise." She tells me and I look to her as she looked to me and nods and I shake my head.
"Nah I'll stay here." I say to her and she sighed a bit. I think and then grabbed a cigarette from her pocket and she laughed a bit a she grabbed her own and lights mine up and then she lights her own. We sat outside as the snow kept falling and when we finished, we headed inside and went back to the table. We ate the food and drank the wine, and just had an all-around good time.
"So, when did you two find out you liked each other?" Carley asked and I smiled.
"Oh um… well I mean we didn't officially get together until we went to the beaches on our last leave." Violet tells her and she nods.
"Interesting." She says and I look to her a bit then to Violet. When we were all done Violet and I decided to head home early since she had a long flight to Alaska. They bid us a goodbye and Violet started up the car and drove home.
"That was a nice dinner." She says and I nod.
"Bet you really love my grandmothers' fried cutlets." I say and she nods.
"Oh, those were amazing." She tells me as she kept driving.
"I will give you some money to get some of those new fancy snow tires, or at least the chains for them, please put them on when I'm out in Alaska." She tells me and I nod.
"I will, I will." I tell her. She pulled in the driveway and parked by my house, we then head inside and she helped me take my jacket off and then she kissed my neck gently and I place my hand on her head as she pulled me closer to her.
"Going to get plenty of kisses before I leave." She mutters and I laughed. I turned the radio on as she went to get changed and so did I. When we changed, I come back out and make some warm tea for us as we listened to the radio a bit. Violet stood by it as she leaned on the shelf it was on and I look to her.
"The war is still going, though there has been a temporary ceasefire due to the holidays coming." We hear and I see Violet glare at the radio. She then shook her head as they continued to speak.
"-In other news Carver has yet to be located, though many leaders have been caught he is the only one that has been evading our soldiers' radars, though then again we haven't been able to do much with this war, honestly there is no reason we should be there anymore if we can't get the job done fast like we did before, we lose more people each day and for what, this might be a war that we might not win." The announcer says and I changed the channel and I look to Violet who looked to me.
"Sorry just… it'll end soon." She says and I nod a bit and kissed her cheek gently.
"Come sit I have some tea warming up and then you need to go to bed, you have an early flight." I tell her and she nods as she goes and helps me get our cups and we take a seat on the couch as one of the stories was playing on the radio.
"Hear they are having this thing called Television." I tell her.
"Like the movies?" She asked and I nod.
"Yes, but in your own home, that would be nice." I say to her and she looked to be thinking.
"It would be… think they'll put your stories on there?" She asked and I laughed at this and so does she. We kept listening to the story and when it had ended, I look to see Violet asleep so I gently grabbed her cup and mine and cleaned them. When I finished, I grabbed a blanket and pillow and helped lay her down and I kissed her head gently. She shifted a bit in her sleep and I smile at her and then headed to my room. When morning came, I woke up early and stretched a bit. I smelt bacon and eggs so I get up slowly and walk out my room to see Violet cooking and she turned to look at me.
"Morning Darlin' making some breakfast before I head out." She says and I go up and hold her.
"Hmm, smells good." I mutter and she chuckled and I smile a bit as I place my face against her back. She finished up cooking and then grabbed the plates.
"Come on let's eat." She says but I don't want to let her go.
"Hmm, can't they send someone else out?" I asked and I look to her a bit as she looked to me sadly.
"I'll be back in three months, I promise, they can't keep me there long." She tells me and I nod a bit and let her go. I go and grabbed two cups and some orange juice for us and we had a nice quiet breakfast as Violet was reading the papers.
"Oh, they have coupons here… might be a good idea to save these, like ration cards." She says as she set the paper down and I look to the coupons she was talking about.
"Guess there are some companies that care for the people here." I say as I drink my juice and she hums a bit.
"They should, most of the people here have families over seas while plenty of people stay here cause they go to college." She mutters and I look to her.
"Did you forget I wanted to go to college?" I asked her and she turned red.
"No, I mean… because they have the money and uh… well… they just use it as a way to escape service duty you know… I should shut my mouth." She says and I laughed.
"No, no I get it, they didn't intend to go to college but did it as a way to escape, but some just couldn't slip through the cracks." I tell her and she nods a bit. She then folded up the paper and drank some of her juice as well.
"Do you ever plan on going to school?" She asked and I shrugged.
"I'm not to sure, but it would be nice." I tell her and she nods.
"You should, if you want that is." She tells me and I look to her.
"Well, here I thought I was supposed to be a good house wife and take care of the children, while my handsome partner goes to work to provide." I joke and she just looked to me.
"Kids?... wait who said you were a house wife?" She asked and I wave it off.
"No one important, though I wouldn't mind being a housewife for you." I tell her and she looked to me more.
"Clem, you know I would never stop you from doing what you want." She says and I nod at this.
"Maybe I'll take some spring classes." I tell her and she nods and I look at her more.
"Do you want kids?" She asked and I smiled a bit.
"Do you want kids?" I asked her and she looked to me.
"I mean… I don't want to carry them or anything but I mean… we could try and adopt?" She asked and I smile.
"And what if I want your kids?" I asked and she chocked on her drink a bit and I laughed but patted her back gently to help her calm down.
"Oh… um well… I mean I don't have-." She tried to say but I stopped her with a kiss and she kissed me back.
"We can talk about that later, but right now we have to get you to the airport." I say and she nods and she goes and gets ready. I clean the dishes and when she comes back in after starting the car up, I go get dressed and grabbed my jacket as she grabbed her hat and put it on. I drive her to the airport and parked the car and helped her grab her bag.
"Remember to get those snow tires, news said there was going to be a lot of snow tomorrow, oh and don't forget-."
"I know, I know, snow tires get the car checked out after the snow is gone, make sure Ducky doesn't bite anyone again except Louis if they come to visit, clip the coupons as well, and see when the next set of ration cards are to come to the house." I listed off and smiled.
"Am I missing anything?" I asked and she thought a bit.
"Hmmm, wait yes." She says and kissed me and I kissed her back.
"Love you." She tells me and I smiled and kissed her cheek.
"Love you too, now go before you miss your flight." I tell her and she nods and runs inside the airport and I couldn't help but sigh a bit and I get back in the car and start the drive home. I do make a stop to get the snow chains Violet talked about I would get the tires next winter though and these were cheaper to get, I then went to the store and got some other supplies for the house and then drove back home. When I get home, I see Ducky waddling around the room and they turn to look at me and then run up to me and I smile as I set the bag on the ground and pet the duck.
"Hey there Ducky." I say quietly and they quack and I laughed a bit.
"I got some strawberries for ya, don't tell Violet though it's our little secret." I tell them and they quack again and I smiled as I go get some water and cut up a few strawberries and place them in the bowl. I set it on the ground and the duck went for it quickly and I laughed at this. The months went by slowly, and I was able to enroll myself in school, I was currently driving to the airport and once there I parked my car and went inside. I looked around a bit to see if I could find Violet anywhere and when I couldn't find her, I went to see when her flight would be in.
"What do you mean delayed by two hours?" I hear a woman say and I turn to her.
"I'm sorry but the storms in Alaska are a bit harsh right now they just got delayed." The worker says and I go up to them.
"I'm sorry did you say that the Alaska flights are delayed?" I asked.
"Yes, there was a storm that hit them before they could board the passengers." The attendant says and I nod.
"You said two hours, right?" I asked and she nods.
"Yes, but if the storm doesn't clear up, they might not be in till tomorrow." She tells me.
"This is ridiculous, my husband is supposed to be home tonight." The woman says pissed.
"I'm sorry I have no control of the weather." The worker says to the woman.
"Don't they fly in the snow all the time, call them and tell them to just fly through it." The woman demands.
"And get people killed? No." The worker says and I look to her with an apologetic look.
"I am the wife of a General." The woman says and I groaned a bit. Of course, it's one of those people.
"Oh, what's your issue?" The woman says pissed and I look to her as she looked to me.
"Hey I want my husband back soon as well, but I'd like him to come back safe and not die in a storm." I tell her and she glared at me. Of course, I had to call Violet my husband I didn't want to know if this bitch was homophobic as well as a bitch to workers for something they couldn't control.
"Bet your husband is just some low rank bastard." She says and I glare at her.
"I don't care for my husbands rank, and for your information don't call people low rank bastards, least they know what hard work is and their wives aren't using their ranks to be bossy to people just trying to do their jobs, so why don't you go home, drink some tea, and go take care of your children before I knock you to next Tuesday." I warn her and she shut her mouth and glared at me.
"I'll make sure your husband is kicked out for this." She says.
"Yeah, yeah, you do that, and tell your husband that you've been sleeping around while he's at work, I know who you are Patty." I say and she turned red and then leaves and I shake my head.
"I could have handled it." The worker says and I look to her.
"I don't think you could have said all that without getting fired." I say and she nods.
"So, you think it's going to be longer?" I asked.
"If the storm settles a bit, they might take a quick take off but with what the radio has said it might be longer." She tells me and I nod.
"Thank you." I say.
"If you plan on staying here for a while I would suggest the café lounge over there, they make really good hot chocolate, oh and the best pastries." She tells me and I nod.
"Thank you, will they announce if the flight ends up being canceled?" I asked.
"We will announce it on the intercom." She tells me and I nod as I head to the café and order two hot chocolates and two pastries. I go and give the woman a drink and pastry and she thanks me and I nod and go take a seat as I wait to hear about Violet's flight.
"Heard you go off on Patty." I hear and turn to see Christa.
"Christa hey it's been a while." I say and she nods.
"Oh yeah, long time, so I heard you have a husband?" She asked and I nod.
"Well, I mean we are engaged and um… well they aren't a husband." I say to her and she nods and smiled.
"Oooh I got it, well just keep saying husband Patty is pretty nosy and I don't want her starting anything." Christa says and I nod.
"So, what's your husband like?" She asked and I ranted about Violet, I couldn't help it she is a wonderful person and very kind, she is strong too and I just love her so much.
"Oh, sounds like Clementine final found love, good for you girl." She says and I smiled.
"How's Omid?" I asked.
"He's fine, he was on a business trip in California, his flight should be here in the next hour." She says and I nod at this and we kept chatting away.
"Flight 271 from Alaska will be landing tomorrow morning at eight I'm sorry for the delay." The worker announced and I sighed a bit.
"I should be heading home than." I mutter as I get up.
"Why don't you come with Omid and I we live closer to the airport." Christa offered and I shook my head.
"No, I have to go home, my partner has a pet at home and they need to be let out." I tell her and she nods.
"I get it, well be careful." She says and I nod as I head out and go back home. I take care of Ducky as they would walk around the house as I made a late dinner. I sighed a bit and rubbed the back of my head as I go turn the radio on to have something to distract me from the silence. I sighed as I take a seat with my food and listen to the radio a bit and I think a bit and eat my food. There was a knock on the door so I set my plate down and I go and open the door to see Lee as he smiled at me.
"Hey." I say as I let him in.
"Violet asleep?" He asked and I sighed.
"Her flight won't be in until eight tomorrow." I say and he sighed.
"I'm sorry Sweet pea." He says and I nod.
"It's fine, it was a possibility." I tell him and I go and get him something to eat and drink. We chatted for a bit and Ducky ran into the living room and I smile as I get them something to eat as well. We chatted for a while before dinner and I ate with the family and then headed off to bed to get ready for another trip out to the airport. When I got there the weather here was starting to pick up with a lot of rain and I finally parked the car and went inside. I go to the pickup area and look around and finally I see Violet and I smile as I go up to her. When she sees me, she comes up and gives me a hug.
"Hey, I missed you." She says and I laughed a bit.
"I missed you too." I tell her and she nods and I take her to the car.
"Oof cold weather and rain not a good mix." She says and I nod.
"Don't worry I got the snow chains on the tires; it was cheaper than the tires." I tell her and she nods a she sets her stuff in the back and we get in before we were soaked and I look to her as she started up the car.
"Just have to drive slow, so how was everything?" She asked as she began to drive.
"Oh, the same old stuff, Ducky has been running around, she even slept in my room." I tell her.
"She did? That's sweet." She says and I nod as she kept driving.
"Did you know she has a sweet tooth?" I asked and she laughed.
"You gave her strawberries, didn't you?" She asked and I nod.
"She loves those, I wonder if she'd like a watermelon." Violet thought out loud. We get into town and I see that they are selling those televisions that Violet was talking about and I think.
"Hey I was thinking, when the weather gets better, we should get one of those Televisions." I suggested.
"Sure, if you want one, we can get it this weekend." She says.
"They aren't giving you a break?" I asked and she shook her head.
"Sady no, I have to get to work early tomorrow." She says and I sighed a bit and she takes my hand gently in hers.
"Hey I'll be off on Saturday and Sunday, two days with just you and me, and that's in two days." She says and I nod.
"Oh, get this, a woman at the airport was saying how they should have flown you guys out in the storm, saying her husband was the General." I tell her and Violet groaned.
"Oh god, his wife? She's annoying as hell." She says as she kept driving.
"You met her?" I asked.
"If it's who I think it is, sadly I have, she comes to my office demanding I let her husband come home early, lady I have no control over that, she also likes to brag about how her husband is the General, 'Oh well my husband said I could do this.' No, he didn't cause if he did, he's an idiot." She mocked and I laughed.
"Sounds like her… she even said you're a low rank bastard." I say and shake my head.
"Please don't tell me you fought her." Violet says.
"Does calling her a hussy count?" I asked and Violet laughed.
"As long as you didn't punch her." She laughed and I smile.
"I didn't I held back, that poor worker though, I felt so bad for her having to deal with that awful woman… also I um... had to call you, my husband." I tell her and Violet laughed.
"I'm fine with that, makes me the man of the house hu?" She asked and I smile.
"Oh yes, my big strong man." I joked and we both laughed.
"If you don't feel comfortable calling me your wife I'm fine with husband or partner, I know how people can get…. Just let me know so I can lower my voice." She says as she rubbed the front of her neck and I kissed her cheek.
"So how was Alaska?" I asked.
"Cold, and yet I still got sunburnt check it." She says as she moved her jacket a bit and I saw the sunburn.
"Oh, do you need anything for it?" I asked and she shook her head.
"No, no I'm fine thanks for the offer though." She tells me and I smile at her gently.
"Hey, how about we get something to eat at the diner, been craving a burger and fries." She says and I laughed at this.
"Ok, ok, just take a right to turn around." I say and she nods and does as told. We reached the diner and she handed me her hat as we walk out the rain and inside the small eating establishment. We take our seats in the booths and she pulled out a cigarette and offers me one so I take it and she lights them up for us. We looked to the menus and she orders her usual burger and fries but this time instead of a vanilla shake she gets a chocolate shake. I order a club sandwich with a side of fries and a glass of iced tea.
"So have Louis and the others come by?" She asked as she flicked her ashes into the ashtray.
"Oh yes and Ducky went to nip at him again, but to be fair he did have one of her strawberries I was cutting up." I tell her and she laughed.
"Oh, I hope she didn't bite him too hard." She says and I shake my head. We were given our food and we at a bit and listened to the radio. It was an enjoyable night and I was happy as was Violet.
