Chapter V
The metallic door opened to reveal the ominous figure of the Dark Lord. "Lord Vader, we have been expecting you. Admiral Thrawn informed us of your request to oversee the interrogation," the official said, nodding his head. "You do not need to state the obvious, commander. Now escort me to the prisoner's cell," the dark lord replied. The officer nodded again and walked on, Vader at his side. "Right in here, sire," the man said. "Excellent, commander. Your presence is no longer required," Vader said, waving him off and closing the door. The darkened cell was wet and had a terrible odor to it, Vader thought. The Wookiee was standing in the center of the room with his hands tied for safety. "Tell me of your connections with the faction on the surface," Vader said, waving his hand in front of the prisoner. [Your mind tricks will not work on me, Sith,] the reply came through Vader's translator. "So you are as knowledgeable in the Force as I had assumed," Vader said. [I have no connections to the Rebel Alliance,] the Wookiee growled.
"Ah, so your memory is not as clouded as you claim," Vader said, placing his hands behind his back. [You use deceit! I misunderstood the question,] the latter yelled. "Of course, now you will tell me your name and your reasons for coming to this planet," Vader said, and while he did he pressed down on something in his hand. [I told you my memory is still filled with uncertainty,] the other shouted madly. "So you claim. Perhaps you need some refreshing of that memory," Vader said, moving aside to reveal a common interrogator droid behind him. [I have experienced more pain than any droid could produce. I will not succumb to your demands,] the Wookiee said determinedly. "Really; then I do not think you will mind what I store for you," Vader said, stepping aside to reveal two other droids floating behind where he stood. "I pray your memory returns to you shortly," Vader said, closing the hatch to the prison cell.
The door chime awoke Felth from his nap. Rising, he opened the door to see Gavis outside it. "I hope I am not intruding, Lieutenant," Ideji said, standing uneasily. "Oh, uh no, of course not. Please come in," Felth said, ushering the man inside. Gavis sat on the chair as Felth reached for a bottle of Corellian brandy. "Care for a drink?" the lieutenant asked. "No thanks; I've just learned from Davis that we should save our supplies," the mercenary answered. "Why is that?" Felth asked, sitting opposite of Gavis. "Our stay out here may be longer then you first thought. To be precise, Davis is trying to boost morale," Ideji said. "That's like him, has to remain top dog. It's just his style," Felth replied. "I thought so too, until I stumbled onto this. Take a look," Gavis said, throwing the device to the other. "This looks like an Imperial comlink. You found this in Davis' quarters?" Felth asked. "I think he's contacted the Imperials and they're on their way here now," Gavis said angrily. "Impossible! We could easily locate a ship if it came here," the other said. "True, but Davis would give that order wouldn't he?" Ideji countered.
"The colonel would never betray us! He despises the Empire more than the rest of us combined!" Felth said, his tone slightly uncertain. "How do you figure that?" Gavis said, waving his hand slightly. "I see what you mean. That could be a cover-up," Felth replied. "What do you propose we do?" Gavis said, gesturing for him to continue. "I suggest we find someone who could discover for a certainty if the Imperials are coming," Felth answered. "That will be my assignment. However, I need you to tell the others of the possibility of Davis' betrayal. Can I count on you to come through on this?" Gavis asked, standing. "Of course, I will alert the others. I'll also ensure our actions are not revealed to Davis. However, if we don't move until we know for sure the Empire is headed this way," Felth said, shaking Gavis' hand. "Of course, you can rely on me to find any information as he to whether he contacted the Empire," Ideji said, heading to the door. "As soon as you find anything, report to me," Felth said as the other prepared to leave. "Your loyalty to the Republic will not be forgotten," Gavis said as the door closed.
