After dinner was eaten and leftovers were put away, Tracy suggested they play a few games to pass the time while they ate apple pie with ice cream. She managed to convince Theo into playing Twister™ with Hayden and Corey causing Zach to tease Corey into accidentally causing the entire group to collapse after three spins. Everyone was smiling and having a genuine good time except for what seemed like Donovan and Gretchen.

"Are you bored, too?" She asks.

Donovan didn't respond.

"So, what? Now you won't talk to me."

"There's nothing to say." Donovan replies, grumbling.

"Was she that good in bed?"

Donovan turned to glare over at her.

"It wasn't about sex."

"I'm sorry?"

"I actually liked her as a person."

"Okay, and…?"

Donovan sighs.

"Something you clearly don't understand."

"What is that suppose to mean?"

"You know damn well."

Donovan got up from his seat, and left into the kitchen.

"Josh, could you help me?" Maia asks.

"Sure! Why not?" Josh said, and reached the top shelf for a bowl.

"Thank you!"

"You're welcome, cutie."

"Ahem."

Both turned their heads to face an angry Donovan.

"Why are you two hiding in here?"

"We're not hiding!"

"Uh-huh."

"Maia and I wanted another slice of pie."

"Really?"

Maia shyly nods.

"Strange."

"How is that strange?"

Donovan grew a smirk on his face.

"Usually she prefers much saltier tastes like me."

Maia's face started blushing.

"N-No I don't!"

"Donovan, stop. You're making her uncomfortable."

Josh wraps an arm around Maia.

"Just leave her alone."

"Whatever."

Donovan left the kitchen, and into the garage.

"Where does he think he's going?"

Josh turned his head back around to face Theo walking in.

"I don't know, and I don't care."

"Right. I'll get him."

"No."

They all watched as Gretta storms through the kitchen.

"I have a few words to say to this jerk!"

"Uh… Okay then."

They all watched as Gretta storms into the garage angrily.

"You both having a fun holiday?"

"I should ask you, Theo."

Theo made a confused look, and Maia giggles.

"This was all for your benefit!"

"I heard. You didn't have to do that."

"It wasn't my idea."

"It wasn't?"

"Tracy set up the whole thing!"

Theo looks back into the room to stare at Tracy.

"She never told you?"

"No. Guess I should go thank her."

Theo grabs a soda from the fridge, and walks out of the kitchen.

"Finally, alone again!"

"Did you want to be alone?"

Josh shrugged.

"I mean, I can't stay overnight."

"Right. Your folks…"

"They want to keep an eye on me after my disappearance."

Josh caused Maia's hair to stand on end.

"They don't trust me."

"They don't know you died."

"It's not that."

Maia looks up into Josh's glowing purple eyes.

"They know I do drugs, and…"

"And what?"

"That I like guys, too."

"So?"

"My dad hates it."

Josh sat on top of the kitchen island, and sadly bites into his pie.

"He blames me for everything, too!"

"Like what, exactly?"

"My sister fails a test, it's my fault. My brother's fiancé calls off their wedding, it's my fault. Mom accidentally burns dinner and her hand, it's my fault too–"

"That's ridiculous!"

Maia held on to Josh's hand.

"You're wonderful."

"Really?"

She nods, smiling.

"Thanks."

"No problem."

Maia bashfully looks away from Josh staring at her.

"You wanna get out of here?"

"I don't know."

Maia looks back into the living room where everyone else was.

"Shouldn't we stay for Theo's sake?"

"He won't mind."

"How are you so sure?"

Josh laughed.

"Look. If Donovan and Gretta can leave, so can we."

"Yeah, but they live here!"

"You do, too!"

Josh took Maia's hand, and guided her back into the living room.

"We're going for a little walk."

"Anywhere special?" Beth asks curiously.

"Like I'd tell you!"

"Fine, but don't let her burn."

Theo's eyes glow, and he looks up at them.

"I don't want a visit from the sheriff stating that a bunch of people were electrocuted as well as burned severely. I'm already worried about Donovan and Gretta running out of here considering they're the wild cards, but you two?"

"Relax, Theo!" Hayden yells at Theo.

She shuffles a deck of cards.

"They'll be fine!"

"Trust them." Tracy says, staring at Theo.

He sighed defeatedly.

"Fine."

Josh ran outside with Maia close behind him, and the two giggled. He managed to have her chase him down the street, and eventually they both stopped to walk after getting tired. Josh surprised her when they ended up at the town's public pool.

"Ew. Why are we here?"

Josh smirks.

"Wanna take a quick dip, Maia?"

He quickly took his shirt and pants, and Maia looks away.

"Uh… I'd rather not!"

"Why aren't you looking at me?"

"Because!"

Josh rolled his eyes.

"Come on! You can't burn up in the water!"

Maia moved her hands away from her face, and stared at a half-naked Josh. He was technically right, and Maia soon found herself removing her shirt along with her shorts. Josh happily jumps into the pool, creating a large splash of water that completely drenched Maia including her tight curled hair.

"HEY!"

"Oops. Sorry!"

Josh grinned, and Maia holds herself.

"Jump in!"

"Uh-uh!"

Josh rested his arms on the concrete, and points a finger at Maia's toe. He sent a tiny shock to her foot causing her to jump, and he quickly grabs her leg and pulls her under the water. When they returned to the surface, Josh was laughing and Maia was spitting chlorinated water out of her mouth.

"Ugh! It's so gross in here!"

"Is it?"

"Kids pee in here!"

"I know! I use to do it all the time."

"That doesn't surprise me."

Josh chuckled. He wrapped his arms around Maia's waist.

"Now what are you doing?"

"Finishing what we started at The Sinema."

"Which would be?"

"I know you remember…"

Suddenly, Maia felt a stinging pain in her head. She swam away from Josh as flashes of memories disrupted her mind. She remembered dancing, bright lights, kissing, and she also remembering something else… the smell of ash and the warmth of fire.

"NO! No, I can't!"

"Maia?"

"Please, no!"

Her eyes were glowing, and she was scared.

"Maia! Maia, wake up!"

"Please, don't!"

The memories had changed. The Dread Doctors were hunched over her body and inserted something inside of her that burned so terribly, so excruciatingly painful that Maia could feel her whole body tearing apart by the molecule. The Dread Doctors only stared down at her and watched, nodding in approval.

"Help me!"

"I'm trying, please!"

Josh tried to touch her, but her skin was steaming.

"Please… No…"

Maia quickly ducks underwater.

"Maia? ...Maia!"

Josh waited above the surface only to find Maia quickly swim back up. She was gasping desperately for air, and Josh held on to her again only to find her body had returned to its normal temperature.

"What the hell was that?!"

Maia whimpered.

"I-I'm sorry!"

She sadly looks up at him.

"I don't know."

"That's okay, Maia–"

"No it's not!"

Josh stared at an angry looking Maia.

"I have no idea who I am."

"What?"

"Am I Maia?"

She thought of embers floating in the air around her.

"…or am I the Phoenix?"

"Why say that?"

"Stiles and Scott came to check on me."

"When was this?"

"After I was kidnapped."

"That was nice."

"I think they just wanted to know what I was because Gerard was curious, so I told them. That had Stiles thinking whether or not I was truly Maia, or if I was reborn as a completely different person than the one who was experimented on. Phoenixes are reborn in the ashes, so who's to say its not using Maia's body and my mind is… is actually…"

"I don't believe that."

"Why not?!"

Maia felt warm tears stream down her face.

"It makes sense."

"I refuse to believe that."

"I don't remember anything from my past!"

Josh remained silent.

"You all say my parents died in a fire caused by me, that they owned a lemonade company, or that they were very kind people but… but I don't remember anything before I awoke from the ashes! I don't remember anything about my life before Theo took me in! What if the Phoenix is just using Maia's body like the hellhound is using Jordan Parrish's?"

"Okay, but Jordan is a real person."

"There have been no records of Maia Kent."

Josh remained quiet.

"I snuck into Theo's room, and read my file."

"Whoa. You did?!"

"My file is completely blacked out."

One of Maia's tears fell down and merged with the water, creating a ripple effect between her and Josh.

"Unknown."

"That could mean anything–"

"Josh, stop!"

"No! I don't care, Maia."

Josh took her hands in his, and stares into her eyes.

"Phoenix or not, I care about you."

"Which part of me?"

"Every part! Especially this one."

"You don't mean that."

"Yes, I do."

Josh gave Maia a large grin.

"Whether you're really Maia or not, I will always love you."

"Wait. What?"

Josh's face turned red.

"Um…"

"You said love, right?"

"No! No, I…"

"You can't take it back now, Diaz!"

Josh turned away from Maia who was giggling at him.

"Shut up!"

He picks up Maia, and spins her around.

"Let go! I'm ticklish!"

"Oh really?"

"No, stop! Josh!"

Josh stops spinning, and the two stare at each other.

Maia could feel time slow down again like that night in The Sinema where it was just her and Josh dancing to the rhythm of the music. Except this time they were alone in a pool with their bodies clearly exposed to each other, and staring deeply into each other's eyes. She watched his eyes turn purple, and he caused electricity to dance across the water's surface which sent a tingly sensation throughout Maia's body.

"You feel that?"

"Yeah."

"It's just like…"

"Before?"

Josh nodded, leaning in closer to Maia.

"You want to stop?"

"No."

"Okay."

Maia closed her eyes.

"You sure?"

"Just let it happen."

Maia wraps her arms around Josh's neck, and the two kissed fervidly. She lifts her legs up from the water and wraps them around Josh's waist, and he responds by holding her thighs to keep her in place. He slowly slid his hands up to her butt, and Maia responded by moaning and gasping in between kisses.

"Josh…"

"What? What is it?"

"The water."

He noticed the water was starting to bubble.

"What do you wanna do?"

Maia shoves Josh under the water.

"This."

She quickly joined him, and Maia swam over to kiss him again.

Josh held her arms to keep himself under, and kissed her back. Eventually the water cooled back down to its normal temperature as did she, and Josh could bring Maia back up to the surface to continue where they left off. However, Josh soon found himself hurriedly undoing the straps of her bra while she tugged at the hem of his boxers.

They continued to make out while Josh's boxers floated to the surface of the water along with Maia's underwear. They were both soaking wet from the water, and neither of them was going to leave the pool until they finished what they started. Josh sucked on Maia's neck which made her moan among other things as he thrusted his hips into hers.

Josh growled. His fangs shooting out.

"S-Stop! What are you…?"

"Huh… Sorry."

"It's fine."

Josh sadly grabs his boxers.

"I guess having sex in a pool wasn't doing it for me."

Maia stared at Josh's upset look.

"Hey, look at me."

She placed a hand on his face, and Josh turns to look at her.

"Maybe next time? Huh?"

"It's just…"

Josh awkwardly climbs out of the pool.

"I'm embarrassed."

"Why?"

"I've never…"

Maia climbed out after him, grabbing her wet bra and underwear and placing them back on. They both rushed to put their clothes back on, and noticed how quiet Josh was when he was walking her back to the chimera house.

"You're not mad at me?"

Josh noticed the worried look on her face.

"No! I'm not! I've just waited for this for a while, and… it just…"

Maia smiled, and kisses his cheek.

"Just be patient."

"I've been very patient."

Josh managed a cheeky smile.

"Goodnight."

"Night."

Maia left Josh on the street, and entered the chimera household.

When she walked upstairs to her bedroom, she thought she heard noises coming from Donovan's room despite the fact she knew the only people who were home were herself, Tracy and Theo. She shrugged and thought it was nothing, and grabbed a pair of clothes to fall asleep in, and hops on top of her bed. She laid there staring up at the ceiling, and remembered the feeling she felt between herself and Josh in the pool.

"Heh." She chuckles to herself.

Suddenly, the door to her room opened wide.

"Huh? Who's…?"

Donovan quickly closes the door.

"Hey, why are you…"

"Come here."

Donovan crawled across her bed, and began kissing her.

"Hey, no. Stop!"

"I've missed you," gasps Donovan.

Maia had her hands on his chest, and felt his hands reach for her face.

"I don't care what Theo says."

"Donovan, wait!"

Just before he could kiss her again, Maia holds him back.

"I don't want to do this."

"What?"

Donovan stared down at Maia.

"What's changed?"

She gave Donovan a confused look, and he tightly grabs her wrists.

"What's different?"

"Donovan…"

"Wait."

Donovan sniffed Maia's body.

"You smell like him. You smell like Josh."

"What did you expect?"

"No. Hold on…"

Donovan touches the bed, and then he sniffs his hand.

"He's been in your bed, but…"

He stared at Maia.

"You didn't have sex here."

"Get out. Now!"

"So that's it? You're just done with me?!"

"Please, let go of me."

Maia was starting to get scared, and could feel the heat in her chest build.

"I know you still care about me!"

"Donovan, please."

Suddenly, Donovan dug his nails into her neck and Maia's eyes grew wide. They both saw flashes of memories cross their minds. Donovan saw Josh grinding against Maia and kissing her in The Sinema, he saw him watching movies with her in her room and sliding his hands down her side, and then he saw them together in the pool almost have sex.

"Donovan, let go! DONOVAN!"

Theo came running inside, and breaks the connection.

"Are you alright?" Tracy asks.

She ran over to Maia who was gasping for air.

"What were you thinking?!" Theo asks Donovan, practically screaming.

"I just thought…"

"LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Tracy gave Donovan a glare, and held Maia's hand.

"You should listen to her."

Theo grabs Donovan's arm, and drags him back to his bedroom.

"What did he see? Anything bad?"

"He saw all the memories I had with Josh."

Maia began crying.

"Why would he do that to me?!"

"Hey, it's okay."

At that moment, Josh came walking upstairs and into Maia's room.

"Listen, I know it's not my fault but–" He started, but stopped when he saw Tracy was comforting a crying Maia on top of her bed. "What's going on?"

"I'll leave you both alone."

Tracy walks passed Josh, and closes the door.

"Maia, what happened?"

Josh sat on the bed next to her, looking concerned.

"D-Donovan came in…"

Maia rubs the back of her neck.

"H-He… He just…"

"What? Did he hurt you? What did he do?"

Josh noticed some blood on Maia's neck, and noticed the claw marks.

"He invaded my mind, he…"

Maia shakily inhaled.

"He saw the memories I had with you."

Josh froze when he heard that.

"He saw us at The Sinema, in my room, and… and…"

"When we were in the pool?"

Maia nodded.

"I'm sorry."

"No, don't say that."

Josh wrapped his arms around Maia, and she cried into his chest.

"Can you stay the night?"

"Definitely."

Maia sighed, and she closes her eyes.

"I won't let him touch you."

"T-Thank you."

Josh could feel Maia's fast heartbeat slow down, and he relaxed. He knew his parents would be furious at him for sneaking out of the house, but he didn't care what they thought. He only cared about Maia feeling comfortable and safe, and that was going to be hard due to her ex-boyfriend living under the same house.
