Drawings In The Dust

"As I got closer and closer to solving this mystery, I only became more fascinated by the light which shone upon me. I was more than glad that it is now everywhere! And to my glee, this mysterious beacon finally decided to show itself. It probably had enough of playing hide-and-seek with me and couldn't wait to introduce itself to its new playmate!"

"As it rose from the horizon to my surprise, it was not the shape I thought it would be. I first thought it was a crescent which also drew my attention because it is the same shape as my body but then, the curve around it started to bend around itself as it went up. Now I might have gotten scared if it wasn't the very thing that created all this light since I've never seen an object morph itself like so before. Instead, wonder and excitement filled my teeny tiny face as I waited patiently for the object to fully reveal itself."

"And so, it did. Oddly, instead of the curves sitting on top of each other like a little hammock, the curves seemed to… reflect one another. From top to bottom. From left to right. It didn't matter how I looked at it. It always looked the same."

"And so, the second shape I've learned in my life was there."

"A circle."

"A giant glowing ball of warmth and happiness, right in front of me! I continued to gaze upon it as it rose. It was even more beautiful (and cute as I thought back then) when I got to see it whole. I just love a friend who's not afraid to show their true sparkles to the world. If anything, I feel like everyone needs it more than ever." I pause for a bit before finishing. "Especially me at the time… all alone in a place where everything was black and grey… To be honest, if the Sun never rose to where I was then, I couldn't imagine how my life would turn out."

"But soon, I stopped to look around me. I then noticed the many craters on the land. 'They were round, like the beacon!' I thought to myself. Even though it was a bad idea, I slithered to another pit near me to take a closer look at its shape.*giggles* Even as a baby, I was always lost in the moment."

"As I peeked inside, not only did I look at its shape but then, I noticed patches of shadows which the light would not touch. Looking at the full picture, I thought it was very beautiful! The clash between light and dark really attracted my eyes. There's just something so satisfying about seeing opposites together. Together, they just help each other shine by… well letting the other be special in its own way. There's no fighting or competition, they're too different for that. And that's why I think it is marvelous!"

After a few minutes of peeking in the crater, I then remembered the Sun. Since it was so much fun, I decided to follow up this game of peek-a-boo with the Sun. This time, it was my turn to hide. I was playing my first game with my first playmate! I decided that the crater in front of me was a perfect hiding spot. Maybe I could sneak myself into the shadowy area where its light would not reach. Excitedly, I pushed my body forwards onto the edge…"

"And then I fell in…"

"I landed face-first inside the giant hole in the ground. Ouch! And… well any hope of it being a good hiding place was now lost because I started to cry loudly.

"After shedding some tears, I touched my face to see where it hurt. I had a big boo-boo right on my left cheek. Well, that was silly of me! I decided to stop my game with the Sun for a while to get some rest."

"But as I lifted my body upright, I noticed the area on the ground where I fell. My face print in the dust… it was also a circle! My expression quickly changed to a gleeful one. I then touched my squishy round face with my hands (careful not to touch my boo-boo). Hee-hee, as I did, I rolled around in excitement, completely forgetting about my accident minutes ago."

"One interesting thing about Moondust is that it can capture more details than normal sand or snow when something is pressed on it. After a while, I came to notice it. I could see my face for the very first time… My teeny tiny eyes all scrunched up together and my wiggly mouth! And my pigtails, although they were much shorter than they are now.

I reached my hand out to touch it, only for the picture to get all messed up as I did. I was a bit annoyed by this at first but soon, I realized that I can use my very 2 palms to draw pictures in the dust. Knowing this, I tried to fix my face print: it didn't turn out nearly as good as it did before. But then, I thought to myself, 'Why stop there? I can draw more of these on the ground! As many as I want!'"

"I went to work right away, filling the entire pit with drawings of my head! I couldn't draw a smiley face yet because I didn't know what it looked like since I didn't have a mirror with me. But drawing my scrunched-up face was just as fun! I drew and drew and drew. I even drew on the walls on the pit!"

I made another pause. "I didn't know it yet, but I had just discovered one of my lifelong passions I've always cared about so much…"

"What is it?" Polka-Dots asks.

"Art. The freedom to use what I have to create something truly magical! Now at the time, I was just drawing the same silly pictures over and over again but it was a start. I guess you guys kinda understand now why I use paintings to reflect a person."

"Of course!" Key says. "You've always loved art. I guess because the Moon was so boring when you were born?" he suggests. "You just wanted to break free from all of that?"

"There's nothing for me to break free to," I answer. "The grey flat Moon was all I knew at the time. I guess it was when the Sun showed its sparkles right after I climbed out that I started to become motivated at anything. Speaking of which, I guess the Sun wanted to take a look at my drawings as it slowly moved itself to shine right on top of me. As it did, more of its bright rays struck the ground around me and onto my pictures. It was wonderful! The sparkles on the ground really go well with my many tiny faces. I became more excited now I know that someone wants to see my artwork. It's nice having a friend who would appreciate the same things as you. Your feelings. Your passion. Your love of learning, even in a bland place."

"Soon though, all this work made me feel a bit tired. Oh, I forgot to mention: every… let's say 6 hours, I would take a 2-hour nap. Even Moon fairies need to rest! Especially baby ones. Before, I would sleep in my old pit: my old crib. I guess on that day, I found a new bed."

"The ground was a bit flatter than the first one: it was bigger than my birth crater. Still, it was comfy enough for me to take a snooze. Then again I guess I was just tired from all that playing that I simply didn't care. And without further ado, I laid my body sideways, curled my body inwards, placed my head on my right arm, and drifted off to dreamland."

"But then… something strange happened as slept."

"What happened?" Joe asks.

"The… crater…"

"What about it?" Sprinkles follows up.

"It… started to move on its own!

And it took me with it!"
