Hide And Seek
After a very very long time, I finally finished my masterpiece! And was it ever so beautiful! I got everything to the very last detail… and added some additions from my artistic touch."
"I wanted to make sure that I include all these floating objects around the ball as well. Even though I couldn't count yet, I was able to trace all of these- both which were then gone and which were still there- with my memory and another look at the ball."
"One, in particular, got my attention for a while: a round ball, just like the first object I saw. Only this time: it had 5 straight lines stuck to it instead of 4. But strangely, every time I looked at it, it appeared to grow in size. It was only at that moment when I realized what was happening:"
"It was coming towards me!"
"I was excited… but a little scared too. I prepared myself for this moment; I hid in another crater near me and peeked from the bottom."
"It appeared to be moving slowly at first but it then seemed to go faster…. And faster… And faster as it came closer! At first, I thought it would land directly on the Moon- it was very very close to where I was. But instead of landing, it simply whoooooooshed above me like a shooting star! It took me a while to work out what just happened at that moment. But then, I started to giggle. I loved how fast it flew above me and I loved how excited I had gotten waiting for it to come. Strangely, I never saw that object again but… wow I will never forget that feeling of excitement, hee- hee!"
"I looked at my mural again and saw the very same object which I'd drawn. It even moved as fast away from the ball!
Now, that thing must've been made and released by the blue ball. I saw with my own two eyes when it appeared for the first time. And the fact it looked very similar to the others around the ball, it surely can't be a coincidence."
"But then I realized something: in my mural, the object was only going away from the ball. It wasn't going near any other object like in real life. That's when I decided to create another drawing: my own homeland!"
"Now, that was much easier said than done: since the whole area was huuuuuuuge, I could only draw parts of it that I remembered from my journey. But where to even start? Also, I don't even know the overall shape of my homeland. I assumed it was a square."
"A square?" Roary asks confusedly.
"Mmm- hmm! It was silly of me, hee-hee but I really didn't know."
"Then, after a few moon nights, there were more! And more! Some even came back from the horizon to play peek-a-boo with me! Just like the Sun."
"My new friends… From that blue ball! I was so excited and giddy right now. It was giving me new things to draw and keeping me company!"
"But then, I had a thought: these objects aren't the same color as the ball but since I'm sure they are from the ball, how were they created in the first place?"
"I squinted my eyes to get a very good look at the ball. It was then that I noticed little tiny specks of light on its surface. In other areas, I saw waves, and lines! And many more little things I never noticed or even really thought about before."
"Now, I call it a blue ball but there were actually other colors on it too: brown, green, yellow, even a bit of red. I've noticed them but didn't put much thought into them. I was mainly focused on the blue because it makes up most of the surface… and later on, it became my favorite color!"
"Just like me!" Blue exclaims.
"Mmm-hmm!" I reply. "Just like the stars, I was too focused on the Sun…"
"I guess there will always be many beautiful things that we will miss- maybe never see- in our lives. It's funny when you think about how small we are compared to everything else- especially me! Many beautiful things… sneakily hiding themselves from us. A beautiful game of hide- and seek! With a wonderful prize at the end!"
"I- I never thought of it that way," Bill replies. "I've seen many beautiful flowers from back to when I was still a caterpillar. Even then, my mommy and daddy told me about the parts which I've never even stopped to really look carefully. The pollen sacs, the tall thing in the middle…"
"I guess you were too distracted by the colorful petals," I suggest.
"I guess so…" he replies shamefully.
"Don't feel bad," I encourage him. "We've all made this mistake; It's built into us. But once you're able to break your own mold, that's when you know how truly beautiful you are."
I look up into the sky. "Some people think black is an ugly color but without it, we wouldn't be able to see the stars so clearly. Black is such a humble color, maybe even shy. Anything with other colors will pop up if it's put on a black background."
I pause for a while to think. "To me, the most beautiful things in the world are, ironically the ones that let others shine."
"Ironically?" Sprinkles questions the word.
"Oh, to be ironic means to say something that usually means the opposite," I explain. "So even though black isn't the prettiest color, it's definitely an important one. We need dark to show light and light to show dark… They both come together like a warm hug."
"Of course, it doesn't matter to my drawing since there was no color on it anyways. But maybe I would've noticed that the blue ball was slowly spinning. If my drawing wasn't spinning as well, I would've noticed sooner… and be more frustrated since my drawing would be messed up!"
"Now, one night, a silver object came to me again. I slithered to get a closer look at it. Now, however, I was used to these objects flying above me so I wasn't very careful with myself. That was a mistake… This object instead came closer… and closer to me."
"And then…"
"CRASH!"
