Why?

"Before I knew it, a shiny silver ball with 5 spokes was right in front of me. A part of it was buried in the moondust. There was also a ring around its body and at its front, a square separated into 4 pieces."

"Being the curious little fairy I am, I decided to take a closer look. When I did, I was stunned when I finally noticed something:"

"Someone was inside the ball!"

"I jumped back in surprise when I realized. Strangely, the other person did the exact same thing. When I came closer again, it came closer too! When I slithered, it slithered. When I stopped, it stopped. *giggles* I was looking at my own reflection."

"On the Moon, there were no mirrors so I never knew exactly what I looked like. Well, I always knew about my round head and face because of the imprints I made when I pressed my head onto the moondust. I couldn't know about the color of my face though until I saw my reflected green, circular face right on the silver ball, although back then I didn't know that it was my head! I thought I'd found a new friend who's ridden on this silver ball, hee- hee!"

"I tried moving my right hand up and she did the same. I tried wiggling my tail and she did the same! With that, another fun idea appeared in my tiny noggin…"

"I would move my hands and body all around very quickly to see if the other fairy could keep up. When she could, I moved faster, and faster, and faster! Hee-hee, I was basically dancing at that point!"

"I moved my head to my right, swung my hips to the left, and raised my hands up! Then, I put my head down, lowered my head, and moved my whole body to the left! I kept dancing… and dancing… and dancing… until both of us were tired."

"I decided to take my nap right against that silver ball, to which my new friend had the same idea. Soon, we were leaning our backs against each other. Before I fell asleep, I gazed at that blue- no I should change the name- that colorful ball. I could never get over how beautiful it was. The blues, the greens, the browns, the whites, the wavy lines, the odd shapes inside…"

"I spent my last waking hours wondering how all these things were able to come together. Kinda like the ball's backstory. I have a backstory, so this ball must have one as well. How did it get here? How did it get all those colors? Is there anything more I've missed? What about… and I was fast asleep."

"I returned to dreamland and had this amazing dream about riding this silver sphere around the ball once again. I got a closer look at that colorful ball to try and find all of its secrets. As I did, I thought of landing onto it. What other things would I see? Definitely not anything like in my homeland. Maybe there would be rocks and craters of different colors and shapes. Maybe I could use them to add color to my new drawings. Maybe I…. Maybe I wouldn't have to sleep with only a black sky."

"But before I could land on it, I woke up. I was back on the Moon, with everything around me grey and lifeless except for the crater pups. I became very sad. I knew that I was stuck here. I couldn't fly or even walk. Even moving a few feet -which I don't have- was a challenge. There was nothing I could do…"

"I turned around and saw my reflection again. My new friend, as I've said, is covered with bright colors, just like me. Thinking about this made me feel a bit better but I just wished there was somewhere to share my own colors to the grey land around me. Maybe make a crater green or another brown… maybe both! It would certainly make my home look more lively and less bland. Even with the sparkles on the ground from the sun, it's hard to ignore the dull, monotone shades which have blanketed me since I was born."

"But then I realized something else: the ball also was mostly grey- well silver but that's just a shiny version of grey. Yet, it came from the blue ball. 'Why is that?' I thought to myself. *Giggles* I guess I was at the age where I would say 'why' to everything. And that's a good thing! The only thing is I have nobody to ask; my new friend and the craters also appear to be as clueless as I was. Well, even if there is someone very smart with me, I couldn't talk anyway."

"I'd like to think when babies start to talk, they soon learn that they could use this to get more knowledge in the world around them. That's why they… *giggles* like to say why all the time. And who can blame them? We all want to know more about everything. I guess it just makes the world seem less scary."

"It certainly did cheer me up a bit at that moment. But it also made my heart ache that I may never get my answers. It's like an itch you can't scratch or a boo-boo that won't heal. Bittersweet… I've felt this once again. I took another glance at the blue ball. My eyes were probably twinkling with excitement but also with longing. In a way, it is kinda painful to be seeing that ball all the time. It just reminds me of my previous questions. I guess by making new ones, they almost make me forget about the old ones. But I am a Moon- fairy- I remember almost everything. I couldn't forget bad stuff even if I tried. Just like my drawings- they will never disappear because there's no wind or rain on the Moon."
