Chapter 5:

The Most Courageous Hero

"So you decided to show up?"

"Ah no, who summoned this garbage?"

"Ah, I see humanity has found its next fighter!"

Hugin and Munin, the two crows, laughed at their own jokes. Odin, merely cast a glance sideways. "I thought you weren't interested?"

Limply floating in the air, the god of mischief smiled innocently. "I wasn't, but when I heard the news that Prometheus had been slain the first round-"

Loki stopped floating, instead he dropped down and sat on the throne below in a crouching position.

A maniacal grin split Loki's face in two. "-well, now I just have to see this for myself."

Brunhilde looked at all the assembled gods. Despite their divine nature, in this exact moment, they looked no different from the humans they despised.

They were afraid. They wanted revenge. They were angry. They were anxious.

A second win was what humanity needed right now, to drive home the point.

Heimdall was standing in the middle of the arena. He looked like he was both extremely hyped up and scared himself.

The gods and humans were waiting for him to start the second round. It appeared that Heimdall himself was having second thoughts.

The announcer was standing in the middle of a crumbling ruin.

Half broken archways, broken pillars, fallen ceilings and caved in walls were all that remained of what must once have been a great temple.

Brunhilde could feel the history weighing down on the broken bricks, and although she didn't know the exact nature of this place, she could feel the tragedy haunting it.

Heimdall still looked lost and was messing around with his horn. He snuck one glance into Zeus' direction.

Too subtly for anyone but Heimdall to notice, Zeus nodded.

Okay, we're really doing this. Heimdall thought to himself. Cold sweat ran over his face, regardless, he had a job to do.

"PEOPLE!" Heimdall began. "THE SECOND ROUND OF RAGNAROK IS HERE!"

The humans and gods responded with cheers and roars.

"HUMANITY STANDS AT 1 WIN, BUT CAN WE GODS LET THAT SLIDE?!"
"No!" Was the unified response from the gods.

"EXACTLY! I PITY THE HUMAN WHO WILL HAVE TO FACE THE WRATH OF US GODS, I WOULD TREMBLE IN FEAR, RUN FOR THE HILLS, BUT HUMANITY'S FIGHTER SHOWED UP NONETHELESS!"

The gates on the human side opened.

A soft melody began to play.

"In an ancient long forgotten kingdom there are many legends concerning a certain hero," Heimdall began to tell as the lights in the arena darkened. "When all hope is lost and when the darkest hour strikes a young boy clad in green will appear as if out of nowhere."

Humanity held its breath. The melody continued to rise. "Time and time again, these legends are proven true as this hero's spirit is reborn across time."

As described by Heimdall humanity's fighter stepped out of the gate.

He was dressed in a green tunic, had blonde hair underneath his cap. On his back was a sheathed sword and a shield. Attached to his waistband were multiple tools, masks, satchels and a bow.

The Hero was walking slowly and carefully, a blue Ocarina was put to his mouth. A gentle melody escaped the instrument.

He didn't pay any attention to the crowd, instead he calmly kept walking.

Humanity oohed and awed as the Ocarina worked its magic.

"He mastered the wild, he championed the seasons and the seas! Is there anything this Hero won't be able to face? Whether he is adrift in time, skyward bound or plunged into the twilight, his courage will not waver!"

The Hero came to a stop in the middle of the arena. His eyes finally looked at the crowd. He looked up. His eyes met Brunhilde.

He silently nodded. He put away his Ocarina and unsheathed his sword.

The sword itself was as elegant as the hero was. An indigo guard and grip separated the shining metal on the other end.

The Hero pointed the sword skyward. A triangle began to glow on his hand and the sword itself began to glow brightly.

"REPRESENTING HUMANITY IN THE SECOND ROUND IS NOT A MERE HERO. HE IS A LEGEND!"

Humanity clapped and cheered.

"HIS NAME IS LINK!"

"You see this hero?" Brunhilde asked Göll. "He is the one I trust above all others,"

"N-NOW!" Heimdall continued when humanity's applause died down. "FIGHTING FOR THE GODS IS THIS MAN."

The entire arena began to shake.

Parts of the arena caved in, as if the ground underneath the structure was falling away. It started with cracks but soon entire parts of the arena were falling into a great abyss that spread like a drop of ink.

Both humans and the gods looked uncertain about what was coming up.

The only one to remain steady was Link, he stood his ground as the arena around him fell away.

"DESPISED BY THE GODS, DESPISED BY MAN!"

Fire rose from the abyss and surged skyhigh, nearly scorching the audience.

"HE WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, HE WAS THE MOST RIGHTEOUS, HE SHINED THE BRIGHTEST! HE REBELLED AGAINST HIS CREATOR AND WAS CAST DOWN FROM HEAVEN!"

From the fire rose a man. He was barely dressed besides a loincloth and a toga. Beautiful black wings spread out behind his back.

The flames didn't burn him, instead they warped around him. Above his head a crown appeared.

"Oh god."

"No- not him."

"There's no way."

"What?!"

Even Brunhilde had to look away. The aura of fear and despise that the fighter radiated was too much.

Both sides of the audience were staring petrified at the gods' fighter. Even the gods themselves shivered in fear as the angel cast a disgusted look in their direction.

Some humans started praying, others were cowering in their seats.

Link looked up at the angel. Crimson eyes stared back. Both of the fighters' expressions were unreadable

"FROM THE PITS OF HELL HE SITS ON HIS THRONE, SPEAK OF THE DEVIL AND YOU SPEAK OF HIM. WILL HE BE ABLE TO SHOW HUMANITY THEIR UNRIGHTEOUS PLACE?!"

It was completely silent in the audience.

Heimdall took a deep breath. "REPRESENTING THE GODS IS LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR!"

There was no applause.

There were no cheers.

Heimdall was sweating nervously. Still, he had a job to fulfill.

"COURAGE VERSUS EVIL. IS THERE ANY FIGHT THAT'S MORE APPROPRIATE THAN THIS? HUMANITY'S GREATEST HERO AGAINST THE GREATEST MONSTER. THE SECOND BOUT OF RAGNAROK STARTS NOW!"

A/N I am really hyped for this fight myself actually, can't help but wish I wasn't the one writing it so I could just skip ahead. Sadly, fate isn't that kind.

Also, I accidentally, just like canon, has a bible character fight in the second round.

Shadow Joestar :

KO awesome chapter, looks like the Gods are sending out someone that could be big trouble for humanity and things may look worse as the older Valkyrie sister will have to send one fighter in order to respond to this fighter.

A: Thanks for the compliment, and it seems that way.

lorhob09:

Madara?

A: Sadly no, I am thinking about sticking to the OG themes of RoR. Pick characters who aren't just "strong" but also represent something else.

Fiction Realm:

A: Thanks for the list, will be useful for me later ;-)

Muhammad Ibrahim Faisal:
