Jamie could feel the tense atmosphere as he stepped out of the bedroom he shared with Eddie. His guard immediately went up and Officer Paxson put a hand up to stop Jamie from going any further.

"Sir, please go back to your bedroom."

Jamie furrowed his eyebrows and tried to get a look beyond Paxson, but he blocked his view.

"What's going on?"

An Officer Wilson looked at Jamie seriously and motioned for him to join Eddie and Megan in the bedroom.

"Sir, please go back to your bedroom. The house is not secure and there are two black escalades squaring the block."

Jamie quickly went back to the bedroom and locked the door. Eddie was checking on Megan and making sure she was comfortable. She looked up and saw a look of worry on Jamie's face.

"Bub? What's wrong?"

Swallowing and then taking a breath Jamie looked Eddie in the eye, hoping she wouldn't see the look of fear in his eyes.

"We have to stay in the bedroom for a while. The house it seems isn't secure and there are two black escalades squaring this block."

Eddie felt her nose flare. Then she closed her eyes. Shaking her head, she opened them, and a determined look crossed her face.

"I wish I had my gun. I would die to protect this baby girl."

Jamie nodded. He felt his protective instincts kicking in. He'd do anything to protect his little girl. To protect his family.

"I know. I wish I had mine too. I don't like feeling helpless."

Eddie checked on Megan one more time and then took a seat on the bed, leaning up against the bed frame.

"Neither do I. I'm not going to sit and do nothing. I might as well pump. Your daughter eats a lot. We're almost out of milk in the fridge. I want to stay ahead in the grand plan of things."

Sighing, Jamie's gaze softened, and he nodded quietly.

"Do you want me to help you set up?"

Eddie shook her head.

"I've got it bub. Could you hand me a couple of bottles?"

Jamie handed Eddie a couple of bottles and helped her finish setting up.

"How many bottles are you going to fill up?"

Eddie eyed Jamie and sighed.

"As many as I can get."

Jamie took a seat next to Eddie and put a hand on her upper back.

"I am proud of you Ed. For everything you do. You are doing so much to keep Megan happy and healthy. If I were in your shoes, I don't think I could handle it. Doesn't it hurt doing that?"

Sighing, Eddie looked Jamie in the eye.

"Just sore."

Running a hand down her right arm, Jamie then kissed her shoulder.

"I know you don't believe me, but you are beautiful and glowing."

Eddie made a face and shook her head.

"I know. You love me. Scars and all."

Jamie switched gears just as Eddie finished up.

"You've done all the hard work babe. Just take a look at that beautiful baby girl we made together."

A smile graced Eddie's lips as she straightened herself out and started putting everything away.

"We did, didn't we? We made one beautiful kid."

Now a smile graced Jamie's lips and he pulled Eddie in for a light kiss. When they came up for air, Eddie frowned and the pit in her stomach settled once more.

"I really don't like feeling helpless bub. This really does suck"

Jamie nodded and the couple sat and listened to the heavy footsteps up and down the hallway. He didn't know how long they would have to stay in the bedroom, because they would eventually need to use the bathroom.

"This won't last forever babe."

The heavy footsteps suddenly stopped, and there was an officer just outside the door.

"All clear sir! The house is secure."

Jamie scooped a very upset Megan into his arms and did his best to console her as he opened up the door.

"Thanks Paxson. I know honey. That was super loud. Try and go back to sleep. Daddy's right here."

Megan was wide awake and not happy. Sighing Jamie continued his conversation.

"Ok, let's go find grandpa or pop. They can get you back to sleep."

Another officer somewhere in the house shouted out as Jamie and Eddie came out of the bedroom.

"All clear outside sir!"

Jamie tried in vain to console an inconsolable Megan who was having none of the noise in the house.

"I know baby girl. You don't know what all these sounds are."

He didn't understand. She usually slept through everything and anything. But the three of them had just been through something traumatic. The added stress in the house wasn't helping. Jamie continued to rock and console Megan as best he could.

"It's ok sweetheart. Mommy and daddy are right here."

The exhausted couple reached the sunroom and found Frank and Henry doing a crossword puzzle and reading a book. Henry doing his crossword and Frank reading his book. Henry looked up and his face saddened slightly hearing Megan's startled cries.

"Aw. What's the matter princess? What's got you so scared?"

Jamie looked at Henry and carefully set Megan in his arms after he put down his crossword.

"She usually sleeps through everything and anything pop. I don't understand. It's got to be the added stress in the house. All these new people. Strange noises she's never heard before. New voices."

Megan seemed to calm considerably and snuggled closer to Henry.

"There we go my little princess. Now how about poppy tells you a story before bed? Once upon a time there was a family who protected the good people of New York City from all the bad guys…"

Eddie looked at Henry and gave him a tired smile.

"Nothing too scary pop."

Pop gave the overly exhausted couple a smile and nodded.

"Oh, but princess Megan is the heroine of this story."

Jamie and Eddie had a seat on the sofa and cuddled together listening to Henry tell Megan his story. Their eyes barely able to stay open as his voice lulled them to sleep.
