Chapter Twenty

It was a bright crisp morning. Both Danielle and Luz still sleeping. Eda had started up breakfast not long ago, basic foods that the girls could actually eat in the Demon Realm. Trudging into the kitchen, Danielle and Luz rub at their eyes as they sit down at the table while King climbs into his high chair.

"Got any hot sauce?" asked Luz, staring at Eda.

"Here," said Eda, placing it before Luz before looking at Danielle. "You don't look so hot there. You, okay?"

"No," replied Danielle, looking down. "Collector is still in the castle."

"Still worried, aren't you," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "Well, best eat before it gets cold."

"Not hungry," said Danielle, as her stomach growled. "Okay, I am. But…"

"But?" said Eda, staring at Danielle.

"I left Collector behind," said Danielle, pushing her plate away. "I don't deserve it. I'm a bad friend."

"Oh," said Eda, before sighing. "Look, there was nothing I could do. I'm only one witch against hundreds of the emperor's cronies."

"Collector," said Danielle, on the verge of tears.

"Mmf knomph, leff pway thum bideo bames," said Luz, talking with her mouth full of food.

"No thanks," said Danielle, placing her arms on the table and laying her head in them. "Don't wanna."

"Okay, this gloom has to go," said Eda, magicking most of the dishes in the sink. "Let's have some fun. Wanna learn some magic?"

"Collector wanted to have fun," said Danielle, looking at Eda, sadly. "He wanted to play games but he's in that castle."

"Okay," said Eda, picking Danielle up. "We're going out for some fun. Anyone up for some slayground?"

"Yes!" said King, jumping out of his high chair.

"King…" said Danielle, slightly grabbing King's claw. "Please… set Collector free."

"Weh?" said King, confused.

"He said… you're the only one… who can," said Danielle, staring at King. "Please."

"I'll… uh… try," said King, still confused and thinking. "What does she mean, I'm the only one?"

"Alright, slayground," said Eda, kicking the front door open. "Let's go."

"We going to fly again?" asked Luz, as Eda summoned her staff. "Yes! We're going to fly again."

"Hop on," said Eda, as she situated Danielle on the staff.

"Yay!" said Luz, excited as she climbed onto the staff alongside King. "Slayground! Slayground!"

Flying towards Bonesborough and landing near the slayground, Luz happily is running around before deciding to play on the spring rider. Danielle chose the swings but was just slightly swinging and looking at the ground sadly thinking of Collector.

"Collector," said Danielle, not really in the mood to swing.

"Kid," said Eda, sighing before sitting on the swing next to Danielle. "Come on, cheer up."

"How can I?" asked Danielle, lightly wiping a tear that was forming away. "Collector…"

"Wouldn't want to see you like this," said Eda, placing a hand on Danielle's head. "What do I got to do to cheer you up?"

"Save Collector," replied Danielle, looking at Eda.

"Not possible at this moment," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "How bout some ice cream?"

"Spumoni?" said Danielle, looking at Eda.

"We don't have that flavor here," said Eda, looking at Danielle.

"Stracciatella?" said Danielle, looking at Eda. "Tartufo? Zuccotto?"

"Or those," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "How bout some abomi-berry? Or key slime pie?"

"No," replied Danielle, gripping the swing. "Anything with chocolate?"

"Sludge chunks," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "Closest thing you'll get."

"Can I get rainbow shots?" asked Danielle, looking at Eda.

"Huh?" said Eda, staring at Danielle, confused.

"Don'tcha know what shots are?" asked Danielle, looking at Eda. "They're sprinkles."

"Oh," said Eda, before looking Luz and King's way. "Hey, Luz! King! Ice cream run!"

"Yeeeeeeeees!" shouted Luz, jumping off the spring rider and running over to Eda with King.

And so, Eda had taken the girls and King to get some ice cream. Luz and King both got some key slime pie, Luz got the green variant while King got the red variant. Danielle had gotten the sludge chunks but they didn't have sprinkles to put on. Eda had franken fruit. Once eaten, Eda decided to take the girls to the Bonesborough Library. Going in and walking towards the kid's corner, Eda spots Amity putting some books away.

"Hey there Boots," said Eda, as the girls look around. "Working today?"

"Yup," replied Amity, shelving some of the books. "I heard what…"

"Hi there," said Luz, making Amity gasp. "You got pretty hair."

"Oh my Titan," thought Amity, mentally squealing. "She's adorable."

"Would you read this book to me?" asked Luz, holding a certain book.

"Of course," said Amity, guiding Luz over to the reading section. "Okay then… oh…"

"There," said Luz, climbing into Amity's lap. "That's better."

"Oh my Titan," thought Amity, holding herself back. "She's just so…"

"What'cha reading?" asked Danielle, walking over.

"Otabin the Bookmaker," replied Luz, looking at Danielle. "Come up. The mint haired lady was just about to read."

"Okay," said Danielle, climbing into Amity's lap.

"Oh my Titan," thought Amity, going tomato red. "Cuteness overload."

"He-llo," said Danielle, waving her hand in front of Amity's face. "You there?"

"Of course," said Amity, trying to get it back together. "Right then…"

And so, Amity read Otabin the Bookmaker to Danielle and Luz. King sat nearby as Amity read. Eda, though, trusting Amity, had wandered nearby, checking out other books. By the time Amity finished reading, Danielle and Luz had fallen asleep. Amity had taken that moment to silently squeal and cuddle the girls. Unfortunately, the spell had worn off, and only Luz had gone back to her normal fourteen year old self. Eda had peeked in by then to see what happened.

"Ugh, what happened?" asked Luz, looking around than seeing she was sitting on Amity's lap. "Amity!"

"Uh… hey there," said Amity, blushing up a storm.

"I am so sorry," said Luz, getting off of Amity. "I literally don't know what happened. Why are you…"

"The moon is shining full tonight," said Eda, chuckling.

"Huh? What are you… eep!" said Luz, realizing she was just wearing a t-shirt that slightly covered her butt. "Dios mío, ¿qué pasó?"

"Yellow Fang regressed you two," said Eda, as Luz tried to pull the shirt down some.

"Oh great," said Luz, before realizing. "Wait, that means…"

"Mmm," said Danielle, cuddling into Amity.

"¡Ay, que lindo!" said Luz, picking up Danielle and cuddling her. "Oh my goodness, she's so cute at this age."

"Luz, why are you even…" said Eda, only to be cut off.

"I may have gone through a little streaking phase when I was young," said Luz, pulling the shirt down some. "Let's go back home before… any more people see."

"All right," said Eda, leaving the kid's corner. "Let's go."

"Later, Amity. Sorry about flashing you," said Luz, running after Eda.

Leaving the Bonesborough library, Eda, the girls and King flew back towards the Owl House. Eda ended up taking a much different route as to avoid any onlookers. Unfortunately, there were a little more people this time around, and Luz got quite a few catcalls.

"Way too breezy," said Luz, blushing up a storm while holding her shirt in place. "I wonder why Danielle hasn't turned back to normal."

"Don't know," said Eda, before hearing a sound. "Am I hearing… purring?"

"Oh, my goodness," said Luz, noticing cat ears and a tail on Danielle. "Danielle got even more cuter."

"Mom… Dad…" said Danielle, making Luz squeal when hugged.

"So precious," said Luz, enjoying the moment.

"All right, we're back," said Eda, before being handed Danielle as Luz ran inside.

"Danielle won't act like a cat, will she?" asked King, looking at Eda as they headed into the house. "I don't want to be chased again."

"Who knows," said Eda, placing Danielle on the couch before ruffling her hair. "Aaw, she really is cute like this."

"Much better," said Luz, coming back into the living room fully dressed.

"What's in your hands?" asked Eda, seeing something in Luz's hand.

"Thought she would like to play some video games when she wakes up," said Luz, holding a game console and some games. "Though I don't know whether this is a frontlit or backlit Gameboy Advance SP."

"Mew," said Danielle, stretching before curling up somewhat.

"Record Eda," said Luz, staring at Eda. "Record."

"On it," said Eda, taking out her Penstagram scroll. "This is too good to pass up."

"Oo," said Luz, seeing Danielle roll off the couch. "That had to hurt."

"Mmm," said Danielle, rubbing her eyes as Luz bent down to pick her up. "Hmmm."

"Still sleepy?" asked Luz, petting one of the cat ears on Danielle's head. "So soft."

"Hmm-mmm," replied Danielle, nuzzling into Luz's chest.

"Want to play a little game?" asked Luz, still petting Danielle.

"Hungry," replied Danielle, before yawning.

"Oh, how bout some ants on a log?" asked Luz, adjusting Danielle in her hold.

"Don't like peanut butter," replied Danielle, yawning again.

"Oomph, it was around this time," thought Luz, before thinking. "I know, how bout some leftover pizza?"

"'Kay," replied Danielle, as she was placed on the couch.

"I'll go heat some up," said Luz, before Danielle gripped her shirt.

"I can eat cold," said Danielle, looking at Luz. "I like it cold next day."

"Okay, wait right there," said Luz, heading into the kitchen.

"Game?" said Danielle, noticing the game console on the coffee table. "Hmmm… Tales of Phantasia?"

"Ah, yes," said Eda, sitting next to Danielle as she took off the seal. "Brand new games that were never opened sometimes washed up. Keep it."

"Really?" said Danielle, looking at Eda. "I can keep?"

"Yup," said Eda, ruffling Danielle's hair. "If there's any others you want, check out my collection. I have doubles or triples of certain ones, maybe more."

"Okay," said Danielle, before seeing Luz return with some plates.

"Here we go," said Luz, placing the plates down. "I got some for everyone."

"Thank you," said Danielle, as everyone grabbed a plate.

"I can show you how to play," said Luz, after taking a bite of her pizza.

"That's okay," said Danielle, taking a small bite of her pizza. "I already know how."

"Huh?" said Luz, a little confused.

"My dad has one of these and a Gameboy Color," said Danielle, pointing at the game console.

"Danielle most have been too sleepy to mention that that one night," thought Luz, taking another bite of her pizza. "Oh well."

"Look at her little tail wag," said Eda, watching Danielle's tail wag.

"Tail?" said Danielle before seeing her tail. "Why do I got a tail?"

"Not just a tail but cat ears as well," said Luz, grabbing and placing Danielle's hand on her head. "See."

"Huh…" said Danielle, playing with her cat ears and tail. "Why am I a kitty?"

The remainder of the day was slow. Danielle and Luz played a game or two while King laid on Luz's lap. Eda was going through her inventory of human merchandise. By the time dinner was over, Luz had taken Danielle to get a bath which went surprisingly well. Afterwards, Luz had laid Danielle on the futon for bedtime and covered her up. Heading back downstairs, Luz confronts Eda.

"Hey, Eda," said Luz, looking at Eda. "What happened when we were regressed? Everything just seems fuzzy."

"A lot," replied Eda, tossing one of King's toys aside.

"Why hasn't Danielle turned back to normal?" asked Luz, looking at Eda.

"Only thing that I can come up with is the fact that Danielle has magic and you don't," replied Eda, leaning against the wall. "It may last longer on Danielle cause of that."

"I hope it's not too long," said Luz, stretching. "Though I don't mind if she stays like that overnight."

"Man, am I glad she doesn't have sharp claws," said Luz, trying to sleep.

"Mew," said Danielle, kneading Luz in her sleep while purring.

"Yes, keep purring," said Luz, petting one of the cat ears before seeing a little flash in the doorway. "Eda… are you record…"

"Byeeee," said Eda, running down the hall.
