Rosie's cries ran through the flat as an alarm for Lia as she grunted and rose from her bed and headed out to the front. Her head felt like it had been bashed off the side of a wall multiple times a wave of nausea went over her as she smelt the scent of fresh bread being toasted.
"Hey gorgeous," Carla greeted as she attempted to soothe her youngest daughter, "There's some paracetamol over there for your head if you need it."
"Read my mind," Lia attempted to to joke.
Carla gave a short smile before continuing, "I thought we could drop the twins off with Ken for them to spend the afternoon with their grandad and we could go for a coffee, have a chat?"
"Yeah erm I'm busy today mum," Lia shut down, "Thanks for the offer though."
"Lia I need you to talk to me darling," Carla explained.
"No you don't, I'm fine," Lia huffed as Carla shook her head.
"What so you just decided to get hammered during the day, not telling anyone just for the crack," Carla questioned getting slightly frustrated.
"Obviously not," Lia snapped causing Carla to raise her eyebrows, "But clearly I don't wanna talk about it so just leave it for god sake."
"You know what Lia I am trying here but I don't know what else to do. I'm trying not to get annoyed with you because clearly something is going on but your making it really difficult," Carla exasperated as Lia huffed and walked off before slamming the door causing Rosie to begin to scream again.
Carla huffed, dragging her hands down her face as she picked up her youngest and began to try and soothe her again.
A few hours had passed, Carla had dropped the twins off Ken and Dierdre, she called in to the Rover's to get a quick pep talk from Michelle before heading back to the flat to try and talk to her daughter. She walked through the door to reveal the flat in darkness, the curtains had been shut and it was near silence bar the slight humming of a television coming from Lia's room. Carla took a deep breathe and put her bag on the sofa, she walked over to her daughter's bedroom and knocked lightly on the door.
"Lia?" Carla called softly, slowly opening the door.
"Come in," Lia sighed as Carla heard and opened the door to reveal her full self, she took a seat on the bed and grabbed the television remote to mute the movie that was playing.
"We need to talk baby," Carla explained as Lia nodded slowly, "It's obvious that something is going on, and I just want to be able to support you..."
"Its just the stuff with the fire," Lia brushed off shaking her head, "I'll get over it."
"But I don't want you to just have to get over it Lia, I want to help you," Carla protested.
"Yeah well there's nothing to help with," Lia huffed.
"Lia please, stop getting annoyed and just understand that I'm trying to help you. Do you think I enjoy you being so upset and disturbed," Carla explained trying to sympathise with her daughter.
"Shock horror, everything about you, again," Lia snapped.
"Lia," Carla exclaimed.
"What! You say your worried about me and then all of a sudden you've changed it back to yourself again!" Lia argued.
"I just want you to talk to me! I don't know how else to get through to you!" Carla protested.
"Please just let me go through the process okay!?" Lia persisted getting off of the bed and walking through to the front room.
"How do expect me to do that as your mum Lia?!" Carla asked following her into the front room as the buzzer echoed and Lia sighed before picking it up.
"Hello," Lia bit down the phone.
"Lia, its Abby, can we talk," Abby asked causing Lia to scoff before pressing the button to let her up.
"If you want me to talk this is the best your gonna get, okay … I'm doing this to get her off my back," Lia explained to Carla who took a deep breathe and took a seat at the kitchen counter.
"Lia," Abby greeted as she walked through the open door, Lia pointed to the sofa as she pulled a chair out for her to sit herself.
"I'm not up for pleasantries, what do you want?" Lia asked as Abby sighed.
She took a deep breathe before beginning, "Please don't go to the police."
"Shock," Lia commented rolling her eyes, "Why shouldn't I?"
"Cause I'm moving ... well next week anyway. I'm moving and I will never bother you again," Abby answered, "I went home and I confessed everything to my mum, she hates me but I don't blame her. I'm moving to Scotland to go and live with my dad. And I know it is a big ask, a massive one, but I mean it I really have learnt what I've done wrong. I'm gonna start a new college, a new start and I won't bother you again. I promise!"
There was silence that bounced off the walls for ages, finally Lia spoke, "Why should you get a fresh start and I can't? You ruined my fresh start."
"I know that and I would do anything to take that back-"
"Would you though, really?" Lia interrupted taking Abby aback.
"Of course! I mean it Lia!" Abby exclaimed, Lia nodded and waited a few moments before continuing the conversation.
"Fine," Lia agreed as Abby let out a sigh of relief, "Only for my benefit okay, don't think this is because I have any remorse for you. I'm doing this so I don't have to go through any police shit or court, anything."
"Thank you so much!" Abby thanked gratefully, "So, so much!"
"Yeah well you can leave now," Lia sighed opening the door signalling for the girl to leave.
"Yeah, yeah," Abby nodded heading towards the door before turning to the girl for the last time, "I hope it gets better for you, Lia..."
Lia shut the door and took a large deep breathe as Carla did the same, the older women stood up and walked over to Lia.
"Well done," Carla smiled slightly.
"I'm sorry," Lia said however as much as the right words came out of her mouth the intent and emotion didn't particularly follow.
Carla picked up on the signals but thought it was for the best to leave it for another day as she nodded and pulled her daughter into a hug, "You were really brave. I love you Lia..."
