Chapter 1: Awakening, Pt 1

David Nolan ran as fast as he could after the perpetrator that they had been pursuing for days now. He had attacked multiple people now, seemingly unprovoked and they had finally tracked him down. They interrupted the attack and were now chasing him through the city. His partner, Rogers, was in the car and was going around them in order to cut him off, while David gave chase on foot.

"What is this guy on?" David muttered, as he chased him. He was incredibly fast, but seemed erratic and kept holding his head like he was in pain. He saw Rogers ahead, as they entered an alleyway and blocked his exit. He stopped and turned back toward David and that's when the younger Detective saw it. The man, haggard in appearance, had large canine teeth, much larger than they should be.

"What the hell?" he uttered in disbelief. He was unsure at what he was seeing, but there was also something pulling at the back of his mind that made his hand unconsciously reach for his belt and not for the gun, but for a weapon that wasn't there physically. Like a phantom memory. Rogers got out of the car, weapon in his hand, as he approached. The man growled and rushed him, but to their utter disbelief, the bullets only seemed to gently faze this man. He was bleeding, but still standing on his feet and he growled again.

"What in the bloody hell!?" Rogers cried, as the man that should be dead on the ground rushed him. David aimed his gun, but then looked at the weapon, realizing that it wasn't going to work; that this man wasn't human, as insane as it sounded. He holstered that weapon and looked around, knowing he had to do something or his partner was about to be mauled by a madman. He saw a metal rod laying outside a dumpster, probably a discarded piece of scaffolding. He picked it up and like muscle memory, he chucked it, but only after he called out to get the perpetrator's attention.

"HEY!" he called. The man turned and stumbled toward him to attack, only to be impaled with the rod. This, instead of bullets, was the thing that dropped him to the ground and he finally bled out there on the pavement. Rogers and Nolan looked at each other, wondering what they had just witnessed and how they were going to even explain it to their Captain.

"What the hell was this guy?" Rogers said.

"I don't know…it was like bullets didn't work," David replied.

"That's impossible," Rogers refuted.

"I know…but we just saw it. You're the senior Detective. How the hell do we explain this?" David asked.

"No idea, mate…but we better come up with something other than bullets that didn't stop him," Rogers replied, but they wouldn't need to, as two black Suburbans pulled up. A man in a black suit, wearing black shades got out of the back of it, along with another man, who was smaller. He also wore a black suit, shades, and a gold tie.

"Detective Rogers and Detective Nolan, NSA. You need to come with us," the man said. He was caucasian and well built. He was dressed like most government agents, but Rogers knew a military man when we saw one.

"We have a crime scene, mate…and a job to do," Rogers said, as a medical van pulled up.

"It's not mate…it's Agent Casey or Major Casey," he said sternly.

"This is now a Federal Crime scene. It will be taken care of and everything will be explained to you back at our office. Let's go…it's not a choice," Casey said sternly. They looked at each other and got into the first vehicle with the two men, before it drove off.

"There's my little prince," Margaret Nolan cooed, as she arrived at the daycare that afternoon.

"He is certainly that. I'm always mesmerized by his charming smile," the blonde woman said, as she brought the little boy to his mother.

"He gets that from his father," Margaret said fondly.

"Can you wave bye bye to Ashley, sweetheart?" she asked.

"Bye…" the toddler said.

"Bye bye Bobby…see you tomorrow," she called, as mother and son departed and she buckled him into his car seat.

"There we go sweetie…let's go home. Daddy should be home in a couple hours," she said, as a black SUV pulled up beside her car and a woman in a pantsuit got out.

"Mrs. Margaret Nolan?" she asked.

"Who is asking?" she answered nervously.

"NSA ma'am…you and your son need to come with us," she said.

"We're not going anywhere with you," she protested.

"Please ma'am…everything will be explained and you and your child are in no danger. We've already picked up your husband," the woman said.

"You have David? What is going on?" she asked in alarm.

"Not here, Mrs. Nolan…now please," she pleaded. She knew if she resisted, they would just manhandle her anyway and her baby, so she unbuckled her son and plucked him from his seat, before doing as they asked and getting in the car.

Emma Swan walked into the 29th precinct and went to the front desk.

"Hi…I'm Emma Swan, with Kenny's Bail Bonds office. I'm here to see…Detectives Nolan and Rogers," she said, as she read her notes.

"Sorry…Nolan and Rogers are out on a case right now," the desk sergeant replied.

"Yeah…but I got a call saying they had a perp that skipped bail and called my office. I think I have a lead on their awol perp," she replied. He shrugged.

"Don't know what to tell you…they're chasing a pretty gritty attacker today. Guess you'll have to wait," he said. She scoffed.

"Thanks a lot," she muttered, as she went outside and headed back to her yellow bug when an SUV pulled up and a man got out.

"Emma Swan…NSA. You need to come with us," he said.

"Yeah…no thanks. I need to get back to the office," she replied.

"Miss Swan…this isn't a choice. You can come easily of your own free will or we can arrest you. Your choice," he said. Emma rolled her eyes at the agents surrounding her. She relented and got into the vehicle.

"Did any of them put up a fight?" Gold asked, as he looked at Belle through the one way glass. She seemed very confused as to why the NSA wanted anything from a simple librarian. Lacey French was a single bookworm in this world and he was very relieved about the single part.

"Ms. French was very confused, but easily complied. I thought some of the others were going to try something, but they didn't, though Nolan is becoming increasingly agitated. He keeps demanding to call his wife. Guess being a cop hasn't ruined his marriage yet," General Shaw mused.

"And it won't with that one…" Gold said.

"The true love thing again?" Shaw asked.

"If you read the book, as you claim, then you know I designed the curse around them and their daughter," Gold answered.

"You had better just let her into the room with him, before he comes through that glass," Gold added.

"How do you propose we get them to drink the potions?" Shaw asked.

"We only need to get one of them to do so…then the rest will follow at the encouragement of one of their own," Gold answered.

David continued to pace in the room and Rogers sighed.

"Mate…" he started to say.

"I'm sorry…this is just bullshit and I need to call Margaret. She must be worried sick," David said, as the door finally opened and agent Casey walked in with a female agent, followed by a man that was taller than both of them.

"I need to call my wife," he demanded.

"No need, Mr. Nolan…she's here," General Shaw said, as another agent led her in.

"David!" she called, as he hugged her and their son in his arms.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

"I don't know…these men just showed up at Bobby's daycare and said we had to come with them," he replied.

"What the hell is going on?" David demanded to know.

"Here is the water you asked for, Mrs. Nolan," Casey said, as he handed her a bottle of water.

"Thanks…" she replied, as she took a sip and her eyes widened immediately and her memories rushed through her. She stumbled slightly, but Charming caught her before she could fall.

"What did you do to her?! What the hell is in this water?" he demanded to know angrily, but as she gained her bearings, she gently touched his neck. He turned to her and saw tears shining in her eyes, as she cupped his face.

"I'm okay…and you will be too. Just take a drink of this," she said. He looked at her in confusion.

"You want me to drink this too?" he asked. She nodded.

"You don't have to trust them…but trust me, my love," she replied. He did trust her implicitly, so he shrugged and took a drink. His eyes widened too, as his memories rushed back to him.

"Snow…" he uttered, as he pulled her into a passionate kiss.

"I…I can't believe it. Storybrooke was destroyed…how are we alive?" he asked, as he turned to them.

"Somehow, many of us survived and were scattered across New York, except I was captured by federal agents and I've been imprisoned for the last three years," Gold replied.

"What do they want from us? My guess is that they didn't just decide to wake us up out of the goodness of their hearts," David said.

"Mr. Gold agreed to help us with a little problem, in exchange for his freedom. He needs a team to accomplish this though. But first, the rest of your team needs to join us," Shaw said, as the door opened. Emma and Henry burst into the room.

"Grams! Gramps!" the boy called, as they hugged him between them.

"I missed you…even if I didn't know it," he said. David smiled and ruffled his hair.

"We missed you too, buddy," he said, as Henry smiled at the baby in his grandmother's arms.

"You had a baby!" he said.

"We did…I guess, as strange as it is, this is your Uncle Bobby," Snow replied. The baby babbled and wrapped his hand around Henry's finger. It was then that Emma's eyes met Snow's and then David's.

"Emma…" she uttered…
