Prologue
King's Landing, the Crownlands
281 AC
The Rebellion ended not the way Tywin or any of those who had supported House Targaryen thought it would go. The hatred and contempt for King Aerys far ran deeper than those supporting the Crown.
Jaime his son had been taken prisoner at the Battle of the Trident. At the mercy of the now soon-to-be Stag King. The slaughter of the Targaryens King Aerys, Princess Elia, and her two children had been at his men's hands.
Queen Rhaella, young Viserys, and her unborn babe were held up on Draagonstone. How long they would hold out was anyone's guess. Tywin had been summoned to King's Landing not long after the city fell.
No doubt the Wolf Lord Eddard Stark would be demanding his sister back. Though Tywin was no longer loyal to King Aerys, he was loyal to Prince Rhaegar. So when Jaime, Ser Arthur Dayne, Prince Rheagar, and Lyanna arrived at Casterly Rock.
Tywin noticed his eldest son looked at the Warden of the North's daughter like he and Joanna had looked at one another. A marriage alliance with House Stark could be beneficial, as would marrying his daughter to the Stark heir or the second son. Both would have been fine matches.
Before they could send word to Winterfell that Lyanna was safe at Casterly Rock, Word reached them of Lord Rickard and Brandon Stark's deaths. And the rebellion was well underway by then.
Jaime and Lyanna were wed before both the New and Old Gods. His only grandson and grandchild, Tytos Lannister, was born a few moons before the Rebellion ended. His mother had died of blood loss.
Both he and Cersei had been summoned to King's Landing. His brother Gerion ruled in his stead till Tywin and Cersei returned.
They were called into the Throne Room. The Stag who would be King sat on the Iron Throne. Even Tywin would admit that Robert Baratheon was an imposing figure of 6'6. The Falcon Jon Arryn stood to one side, and Baratheon's second brother Stannis stood stoically to one side. The siege of Dragonstone must have finished as Stannis stood with Eddard Stark.
"Lord Tywin, thank you for gracing us with your presence." The Falcon, Jon Arryn proclaimed.
"Enough of the mind games, Arryn. Say what it is you want, and let's get to it."
"Where Lyanna Stark." The now Lord of Winterfell and Warden of North Eddard Stark demanded.
"We know Rhaegar Targaryen kidnapped her along with Ser Arthur Dayne, your son Jaime, Ser Oswell Whent, and Lord Commander Gerold Hightower and took her to Casterly Rock. Where is she Lannister?"
"Dead. My good daughter died in the birthing bed, bringing my grandson into the world. Her son with my son Jaime. Tytos Lannister. Now I have answered your questions. Perhaps we can get this over with me swearing my loyalty, and we'll be on our way," Tywin answered Robert's question.
"Your son played a part in Lyanna's kidnapping and possible rape. That can't go unpunished." Robert smirked at him. "Lord Arryn, have Ser Jaime fetched at once. He can hear his sentence."
Jaime was brought to the throne room in chains.
"Ser Jaime Lannister, you can swear your loyalty to King Robert or take the Black."
"Neither. She never loved you, Baratheon. You only loved the image of who she was and didn't see the iron underneath," Jaime spat in Robert's direction.
"And you loved her, did you, Lannister?"
"And she loved me. I was hers, and she was mine," Jaime proclaimed passionately.
"Your son, Lord Tywin, took my bride from me. A fitting punishment will be him taking the Black, and your daughter marrying me. An eye for an eye, some say. Perhaps a Bride for a Bride." Robert chuckled.
"What's your answer, Lord Tywin?"
"My daughter will marry you, your Grace." Tywin had no other choice but to accept their terms.
"Good, Ser Jaime. You will be transported to Wall to take the Black along with the rest of the Dragon Lovers."
Tywin made a silent vow to himself that day. The Stags would pay as would the Falcons for tearing his family apart and leaving his grandson all but an orphan, with Jaime being sentenced to take the Black.
Tywin would raise Tytos to be a true Lion, the most cunning, ruthless man. Lions eat Stags. In due time. The Lannisters would seek their revenge. A Lannister always pays his debts.
