Site:19 Interview Room 2.
A trail of smoke hung in the air around Tyler. "As I was standing there, breathing heavily and shaking at what had happened before my eyes, Armstrong had arrived from the doorway; he seemed unfazed by what he was seeing on the ground. Without hesitation, he smacked me across the face. It did bring me back to my senses, yet the entire thing was still too much for me as I worked to collect myself and not throw my guts up onto the floor. He seemed impressed. He told me that many people don't survive an attack by them, much less get away with their limbs or skin intact. I asked him what this thing was, and he explained to me that it was known as skin stealers, ironically. Within the place he has been stuck for a long time, they are one of the big threats; they hunt humans to feed by tearing their skin off. This skin stealer is far stronger than any human, and it explains why it had no trouble killing Villetta or anyone else within the building." He thought of what could happen to him if he reacted too late to reload his weapon.
"Once that was out of the way, we spoke for a few seconds about what to do and where to go next. I told him I had gotten into contact with a few other people who were still alive and could be of help. He told me it would be risky to make such a move with all of these monsters running around. Then I also said we needed to close the doorway before more of them came through. Armstrong just wanted to get the few that we could and get out of there. After much talking with him, I got him to agree to help me, and we had to make our way through the slaughterhouse as it has turned into." Recalling the events that happened that day, blood, bodies, and limbs were scattered in many of the places they walked.
"As you did this, the two of you made your way to the pathway that caused this breakout and damage. How many people did you run into, and by chance, do you know how many people escaped?" Tyler thought about his question for a few seconds. "At most, about twenty, there were over two hundred within... By the time everything was done, that was all the escape. Moving on to what happened next, we linked up with another small group. Two of them were badly hurt, and one was missing an arm. I ran in with a pack of creatures that had bodies like dogs, but a human head, Armstrong, told us about them. The beast is known as a hound. Very deadly due to the fact they at times move in packs; one arm got badly mangled, and I had to cut it off." He moves his fingers over his left arm around the elbow.
"For a time, our group had around ten moving as a group; one with weapons stayed on the outside of it and moved ahead with two at the rear. Thankfully, we did not encounter any of the monsters, for it seems they have moved outward from the doorway into our world. The next problem was destroying it. We had nothing with us, or so I thought of bringing it down, and just so happened, Armstrong had something. Getting into his backpack, he brought out a few tubs that looked like pipe bombs. I still did not have a clue how he even made them." Stopping for a second, he would puff on his cigarette again.
"Once the bombs were set, we just had to set the fuses, and from there, it was just to run to cover. Which was easy enough since there was one of the preparation rooms for when we set off as teams through the door. The explosion was not too loud or strong, but it did enough damage to cause the collapse of the hole we made in it. There was no time to celebrate or anything of the sort; we all knew that we still had to escape. And that was a nightmare all on its own." The Foundation man held up his hand to stop him for a moment from speaking any further, having his own questions.
"Before you go any further, I have a few questions I would like to ask. Before you got to close the door, was there anything different on the other side, or was it the same?" Tyler looked at him. "It was the same as far as I can recall; nothing different... Besides, the room's wall was caked in blood and body parts." Getting the first question out of the way, he asked another. "I see. On another matter, do you know what these bombs were made out of or what was in them? Did you ask Armstrong?" He found it strange for such a place to have the materials to make it. "I do recall him speaking about this stuff called fire salts—some kind of crystal within that place. It seems that it had many uses, mostly for fighting; he had a hard time gathering enough for those bombs." Nodding his head, he sees this as something to search for later on if they decide to explore this place, but he sees that it was deadly. "Moving on, you can continue." He was getting information, but there were still questions that needed answers.
"Of course. By this time, only one thing was on everyone's mind, and that was to escape. But that was easier said than done; the closet exit was on the other side of the building. We had no clue what we would run into or if the doors there would even open, but we had to try. So, we started to move when we saw things, and to this day, I don't have a clue how to explain. Down one hallway, I saw this... How can I describe it: a floating smile in the darkness of a hallway? A group of those hounds feeding on a few bodies during that time suffered several losses. We got picked off as we moved past those doors. We just kept on moving; we didn't even try to save them. I think it was the right call, but I'm sure it's just something I tell myself to make me feel better. In the time span of roughly half an hour, we made it towards the door, and by sure luck, it was unlocked." Putting his cigarette out after taking his last puff out of it.
"Once outside... A few of us just fell onto our knees on the fact we got out of there alive outside. We found some who got out as well. In the parking lot in total, as I said, from what I can recall, there were about twenty of us left. A few wanted to go inside and try to get others out. I had to spell it out that anyone else not here is either dead or soon to be dead. Not many of them liked it, but there was nothing we could have done to save anyone else. The next thing we had to work on was getting in contact with the company headquarters. The closest town was about five miles, and only one of us had the keys for their car with them."
"So, we waited as they left, keeping an eye on the doors in the event someone else came out or one of those things. We all agreed that we also needed to ensure none of those things escaped, considering the damage they did within. Many of us fear what they would do if they got out of the building and into the woods around us." The Foundation man looked at the recorder, turning it off for a second and changing out the tap within it before starting it back on. "I am guessing that nothing more came out of there, either humans or one of those monsters?" He assumes that this was the outcome of why there were not more people who escaped or why they had no reports of these monsters. "You are right, nothing else came out. From time to time, we saw movement from the windows. A few looked human, but with my encounter, I assumed that they were not human; other shapes we saw were not human at all. As the sun was getting close to setting, the man went out into the town and told us the good and bad news of what was going on. The good news was that they got into contact with the US government. They seem to have been working together for some time. The bad news was that they were not coming to help. From what he told us, at this point, the building was considered lost and everyone inside was dead. We got a simple order to wait for them to arrive. They planned on boarding the place up and taking us away to places where I did not have a clue."
This would have deeply piqued his interest if the US government had a hand in this. They had agents within the government, and that would be a good start to getting further information. "So, a cover-up? That is to be expected when you think about it. I am surprised they let you and the other live, but if I did not work for the foundation, I would think you were someone who was out of his mind and on drugs, for that matter, but I can tell you are speaking the truth. On top of the little bit of evidence you showed me, So, what came about once they did arrive?" He was ready to move on to what came next.
"You are right on that matter; it sounds like the words of a mad man. Anyway, once they arrived in rows of military vehicles for us, each one of us was placed in a van. The windows and everything were blacked out, so you could not get a good look inside of them from the outside. Once inside, I could not tell you where we got taken; I just recall the back door opening up and beginning taking out into a large indoor parking lot. We were not allowed to ask questions or anything, as we were separated. I was taken to a small room no different than this one, and two men came in soon after. And for all that had happened, they told me they never did everything that happened; they never told me clearly. If I so much as spoke a word about any of this to anyone, I would disappear. It was a clear warning and threat. I was then handed a check that had over one hundred and fifty thousand on it, more than enough to start over." In a way, he wishes he never took it and just let them kill him.
"For the next few years, it was just drinking and drinking... I tried everything I could think of to forget what happened, but nothing worked. I assume that everything was done. I thought that those things within that place would starve out and die. That was until last year, when I was proven wrong. I went back there just to see if anything had happened since it was boarded up. I saw that a window was broken open. By this time, the company had gone bankrupt, not too long after the Bad Day. I assume that one of those things had broken out, but looking inward, I could see that the glass was on the inside. I heard of urban explorers going into abandoned buildings. And that was when I knew what had happened."
"I stepped inside for the first time in years; nothing had really changed. The place itself was still standing pretty well. But you could smell it in the air that something was wrong inside. I did a small search around. Where the window was broken into, and that is when I found a small camera on the ground lying next to a long trail of blood." Reaching towards his wallet, Tyler would pull out a memory card and slide it towards the man. "The further proof you need that inside is deadly. I watched it myself, and that is why I went looking to make contact. For as far as I can see, your foundation is the only one who can ensure that no one else gets killed, hurt, or those things break out."
Taking hold of the car, the foundation man looked it over before putting it in one of his pockets. "I thank you for reaching out to get our attention. Not many would try such a thing. I send this up the chain and see what we can do." All that was left to deal with was the man before him. "Tyler, you've been through a lot. What if I told you we have a way to make this nightmare go away, so you won't forget it ever happened?" Tyler's eyes widened. "You... you can do that?" Nodding his head. "We can do just that for you so that you can move on with your life much better than you are doing now." And once this was done, they could get to work dealing with what was within not just the building but also on the other side of the door.
