Chapter 5.) Learning Who You Can't Trust

PCPD

"I would like to see my client, Elizabeth Morgan. I heard she was here," Justus said.

"Elizabeth Morgan?" Mac said, "So that's her full name. She wouldn't tell us. All she would say is that her name was Beth. This information certainly sweetens the pot."

"Nevertheless, I would still like to see her and make sure she's alright." Justus said.

"You'll have to come back in the morning. She'll be available at 7 am. She's in lock up, until she decides to speak. I suggest you advise her to do so, or we may have to charge her as a co-conspirator.

It was just after midnight. "I don't agree with this, but I will be back at 7 am for my client. She better be at this table. Do I make myself clear?" Justus asked.

"Crystal," Mac replied.

General Hospital

"Sonny," Jason whispered as he entered Carly's room.

Sonny awoke and saw Jason nod to him to follow him outside, "What's up, man?"

"How's she doing?" Jason asked as Sonny entered the hall.

"She's shaken but she and the baby are alright. What's going on?" Sonny asked.

"You need to come with me," Jason said brooking no argument from Sonny.

"I can't leave her now," Sonny argued.

"You need to come with me, it's about business and family. I just doubled Carly's guards. She'll be fine," Jason said.

"Fine, let me write her a note," Sonny said.

Lockup at the PCPD…

It was cold, drafty, and lonely in lockup. She didn't like it, but Elizabeth could handle it. She'd spent months locked away in Ric's den of both iniquity and insanity, and she'd managed to survive. She wasn't going to sleep laying down. She'd sleep how she always slept, sitting upright, keeping watch. She didn't like how that one cop looked at her earlier. She knew him from somewhere but couldn't place him to save her life. She moved back against the wall, and curled her legs up to her chest. She had a bad feeling about this and she knew nothing good could come from staying in Port Charles, so she waited.

There would probably be a shift change soon and officer creepy would be able to go home, she hoped.

Across town…

"He stumbled into his apartment. He wasn't drunk only slightly buzzed. He turned and locked the door. When he turned around he realized he wasn't alone. There was a shadow sitting in his chair. He flipped the lights on to reveal a stern looking Sonny Corinthos and a stealthy Jason Morgan appearing beside him.

"You look surprised to see us," Jason said.

"I'm only surprised it took you this long. What do you two want?" Johnny Zacchara asked.

"Elizabeth, did she know about the prenuptial agreement before we got married?" Jason asked.

Johnny let out a deep breath, "No, she hadn't a clue. She honestly loved you. She must have. You're the only person she let in…after the r…attack."

Sonny chose to stay silent, like Jason had asked on the way over.

"You mean the rape?" Jason asked. Sonny looked surprised. He didn't like Elizabeth, but he never condoned rape or physical harm of a woman.

"Yes, the rape. She was just a kid, and after that, well she never let anyone in again. Until you," Johnny said.

"Why did you let her marry me? You knew it was a contract and you knew she didn't know the particulars. Why let her walk into a world pain and misery?" Jason asked enraged.

"I thought if you gave her a chance you'd grow to love her. She's so easy to love. I didn't know that Anthony, Trevor, Ric and even Claudia were going to harm her reputation the way that they did, and they used all the same people you do for your background checks. Trevor bragged about how easy it was to destroy her in your eyes."

"Do you realize the danger she's in?" Jason asked.

"Elizabeth has been in danger her whole life. I mean she's the kidnapped daughter of a mob boss, the granddaughter of the most infamous Godfather on the planet and neither men know of her existence. Her stepfather is Lorenzo Alcazar, and the father of her only child is you, Jason Morgan," Johnny said.

"How do you know about her child?" Jason asked.

"Ric recently admitted he kidnapped Elizabeth a couple years back. Held her in a panic room. Said he was going to let her give birth to your baby, and keep it, so he could raise it right underneath both of your noses. Of course, then he had to admit that he'd underestimated Elizabeth. After a while, she stopped eating a lot. Just enough to keep the baby fed, she managed to lose weight and was able to slip out of the cuffs. She hid in a corner and hit Ric over the head with a tray that he'd left in her room. Stole his keys and made a run for it. Last I heard, someone in the Quartmaine camp found her and took care of her before she disappeared."

"Do you know if she gave birth to the baby?" Jason asked scared about the answer.

"From what I heard, she gave birth to a baby boy. He would be about 3 now. I guess," Johnny answered.

"You never thought of the need to come forward with this?" Sonny asked.

"Not really, I'd already hurt Elizabeth enough, and I wasn't about to take a baby from a doting person like Elizabeth and give it to you and that barracuda to raise. I like you Jason. I think you'd make a good father, but your taste in women is lacking. Sam is more of a sidekick than motherhood material. Elizabeth, by all accounts that I've heard along the way is affectionate, kind and gentle," Johnny said.

"Has Elizabeth tried to reach out to you?" Sonny asked.

"No, like I said she doesn't trust me. Have either of you heard from her?" Johnny asked in return.

"We spoke briefly this afternoon, when I divorced her," Jason said aggravated ticking his jaw.

"Fool," Johnny uttered unable to help himself.

"You may not want to insult me right now. Your life is in my hands. Now tell me, is it true that Ric has been chasing Elizabeth and my son around the country trying to kill her?" Jason asked.

"Every chance he gets," Johnny offered, "And when he doesn't go after them himself, he has a hired gun do it for him. Even uses guys at the PCPD. Likes to tell people a cover story of how she kidnapped his kid."

"Well she did kidnap the kid. Just not from Ric," Jason said.

"When the mother takes possession of the child it's called parenting. Let me ask you this, if Elizabeth came to you with this information, would you've listened to her?"

Jason stayed silent. "I rest my case," Johnny answered, "She can't trust you with the truth. Either of you, which is pretty sad considering you're her pops and all. That's pretty cold. Hell that's colder than Anthony and my sist-," Johnny said to Sonny before he was cutoff.

Sonny rushed him, "Say that again," Sonny demanded slamming Johnny into a nearby wall.

"You're her pops, her old man, her father, her padre," Johnny said as Sonny held him to the wall in a surprising show of force.

"What do you mean? I'm her father," Sonny asked.

"That's why she was sold into marriage to your right-hand man in the first place. To get back at you for fuckin' up my father's plans with Serafina Giambetti. Of course, you probably knew her as Sera Russo," Johnny added.

Sonny shook his head, "Yeah, I knew Sera Russo. We used to kick it back in Bensonhurst. We saw each other for a little while. You tellin' me she was pregnant, and didn't tell me?"
