18.) Snow White has her Say!
Carly and Elizabeth made their way to the dining room table. Carly chose a seat at one head of the table, and Elizabeth chose a seat that was closer to the other end of the table where she assumed her father would be sitting. Elizabeth crossed her legs and placed her hands in her lap. In truth she was a nervous wreck. Had her uncle not escorted Angela or Sam or whoever she was out, she probably would've killed her had she stayed in her presence any further. She was tempted to kill the woman sitting at the other end of the table too. Her father loved this woman and while she couldn't fathom the appeal she was trying to reconcile a way to deal with Carly, whom right now she considered an ancillary threat. She could feel her wicked stepmother's eyes on her but chose to keep her eyes forward.
Carly noticed that Elizabeth wasn't making eye contact with her. The girl wouldn't even acknowledge her. She knew that in the past she'd treated Elizabeth poorly, but she couldn't figure her out. Sonny and Jason were walking in and Sonny seated himself at the other head after removing the food covers. Jason chose to a seat opposite Elizabeth. Jason looked so troubled, and of course her heart bled for him. She loved Sonny, but in her heart of hearts if Jason ever gave her a chance again she would leave Sonny immediately to pursue her heart's truest desire, Jason. She couldn't reconcile that Sam knew where she was the entire time and was spying on Jason and Sonny for Ric.
Sonny started plating Elizabeth's meal, and then Jason's. He stood up, and walked over to Carly and plated her meal. Then went back and plated his own. Sitting down, "Everyone go ahead and start eating, I don't want it to get cold."
Sonny started eating as did Carly. Jason who was clearly upset, took a drink of the water in front of him but looked pensive. Elizabeth kept her eyes on Sonny as he ate. She was very hungry as she hadn't eaten breakfast and it was now heading towards noon. Still, she continued to watch as Sonny ate his lasagna. Sonny looked up feeling eyes on him. He looked up at Carly, who was looking at Jason. His friend was clearly grieving over the love he lost with Sam. Sonny looked down to his plate and stabbed another piece of Lasagna. When he looked up he noticed that Elizabeth was staring intently at him. She was obviously observing him and she hadn't touched her plate. "What's the matter Elizabeth? Are you not a fan of Lasagna?" Sonny asked.
"On the contrary, I'm quite fond of lasagna. I'm just taking my time. Making sure it's safe," Elizabeth answered.
Jason looked up from his plate at her comment but chose not to say anything. 'This is going to be a long road.'
"What? Do you think we're going to poison you?" Sonny asked almost amused.
"Not to belabor a point, but given our history the thought had crossed my mind," Elizabeth said as she cut a piece of her lasagna and took a very small bite.
"Elizabeth, I know that we had a terrible start, but I would never hurt you. You're my child. That means you require my support and protection. The things that were done to you because of me…I can't even begin to apologize for. I wish I had known you existed. If I had, everything would have been different. You would've never wanted for anything, and I am going to make damn certain that you never will again," Sonny said as he took another bite.
"I don't want your money," Elizabeth said, "I wanted to get to know you."
"Wanted? Do you not want a relationship now?" Sonny asked. Carly held her breath, hoping that Elizabeth wouldn't want a huge part in Sonny's life. Selfishly, she wanted Sonny to acknowledge their children but didn't want to make room for Elizabeth.
Elizabeth caught Carly's slight facial expression from the corner of her eye, but answered Sonny, "Let's just take this one day at a time."
"You are my heir and with that comes an inheritance, support, protection and most of all family."
Elizabeth merely swallowed her food and nodded. She didn't know what to think. She wanted to believe that it could be possible, but life experience had told her otherwise. She supposed that only time will tell.
"Excuse me for a second but an inheritance? Sonny you only just found out about Elizabeth. How much is she entitled to and where does that leave Michael and this baby?" Carly interjected before looking at Elizabeth and adding, "I mean you saved my life and all, and I understand that you've been through quite the ordeal, but Sonny and I have a family and you think you can come in here as a welcome addition, and take away from my children's inheritance."
"Now Carly," Sonny started.
Jason looked up from his plate at Sonny, then at Elizabeth as she started talking.
Elizabeth wiped her mouth with her napkin, "-Allow me," Elizabeth started holding up her hand to stop Sonny from continuing before looking in Carly's direction, "Carly, I don't want an inheritance from Sonny, but you fail to understand how little power you have in this situation. Sonny will be required to give me something because it will look bad if he doesn't. At the very least it will have to look equitable. That doesn't mean that I want to steal from your children. Truth, be told as an act of entitlement, if I wanted to I could suggest that by bloodline alone, right now, I'm the only legitimate heir that Sonny has, and the five families would likely agree."
"According to who, Elizabeth, you?" Carly replied.
"First, it's to whom, and secondly it's Mob 101!" Elizabeth said. "You should know that by now. What world do you think you're living in? If he doesn't do the right thing, Sonny could face reprisal from my grandfather, and I don't mean Anthony, I'm talking about THEE Maximus Giambetti. Sonny will have to do something, and while I don't want anything monetarily from him, that fact won't matter to the five families. The same with Jason and our son Cameron."
"I bet you'd just love that don't you? Now Jason is tied to you forever," Carly replied with a smirk, just loving that she got to rub that salt in Elizabeth's wound.
"Oh yes, being tied to Jason is so much fun," Elizabeth said derisively.
Jason's eye twitched at Elizabeth's remark. 'So Elizabeth had bite. This was an interesting development.
"Knowing that he married me for docks and territory, while he screwed Aunt Courtney in the room above my own, with dear old Dad's approval is such a fun way for newlyweds to live. Nothing screams tawdry like knowing your spouse loves your obnoxious, vacuous stripping aunt, and isn't that what all newlyweds aspire to?"
"And that kills you doesn't, Elizabeth. That Jason loved Courtney. And now having Jason's child ties you to him permanently, a fact which you're going to lord over him, I'm sure," Carly snarled.
"Unlike you Carly, I won't use my son to attempt to capture Jason's attention, as if that were even possible. I suffer no delusions that Jason would even care. I would prefer not be seen as someone's lifetime obligation, and if I had my way I would prefer never to see Jason again," Elizabeth replied.
Jason sucked in a breath. It was hard hearing how she really felt, and the worst part was she had every right to feel betrayed.
"I'll have you know that I have my own hotel now. So I don't have to rely solely on Sonny or Jason for that matter," Carly said.
Jason took a swig of his water, watching the play-by-play.
"That's nice," Elizabeth said as another small bite.
"It certainly is," Carly said.
As she finished chewing, "Out of curiosity, just how many beds did you have to break to pull that off?" Elizabeth asked tweaking Carly's ire.
Carly let out a shriek in response
Jason nearly chocked on the water he was drinking. He had to bite back a laugh.
Sonny too, had to lower his head to hide his grin, 'So my kid has a sense of humor.'
"Why you disrespectful little twit," Carly stood up as she started yelling.
Elizabeth was having a hard time holding her laughter in. With a smirk, Elizabeth said, "Struck a nerve did I? I must have struck pretty close to home if I got such a rise out of you," as she cut into her lasagna.
"You think that's funny?" Carly asked.
"Carly sit down," Sonny said.
"Honestly-your ignorance is hilarious," Elizabeth said cheekily.
"I know more than you can imagine," Carly said inflating her ego.
"And yet, you lack basic understanding of the rules of how the mafia underworld works. But yes, Carly, your ignorance has provided me a wealth of knowledge about you," Elizabeth replied looking up with a smirk.
"Sonny, I'm not going to put up with this," Carly said.
"Carly, you're not really being fair," Sonny stated, "Elizabeth is my child. She's been deprived of her family and all that she's entitled to. I love you, Carly, but you don't get to dictate where my money goes or how I disperse it. I don't tell you how to spend your hotel profits. You don't mind me adopting Michael and sharing my wealth with him, but you have a problem with me giving my daughter her fair share. How is that okay?"
"I have a problem with her disrespect," Carly replied.
"Disrespect? That's rich. You started this you wretched witch. Bottom-line Carly, you and I will never be okay, because you and I have unfinished business, and not a God damn thing you've done in the subsequent three years, including getting knocked up, is going to change that," Elizabeth said.
"I don't get it, why did you help me then?" Carly asked.
"I didn't help you. Had you not been pregnant, your kidnapping would've been the one time I agreed with Ric. I was helping my younger brother or sister. It was my peace offering to my father. Truth be told, I despise you Carly. You are the kind of person that lowers the prestige of the decent people around you. You're both belligerent and impulsive. Your lack of insight makes fodder of Sonny's Organization for Sonny's enemies. Believe me, his enemies are taking notice that he's married to an idiot," Elizabeth said snickering.
"How dare you speak to me that way," Carly stated.
"You're welcome," Elizabeth replied.
"What- what do you mean by that? I'm not thanking you," Carly questioned Elizabeth's meaning.
"You're welcome because all I'm doing to you is replying to your insults with my insults, instead of treating you like Angela or Sam or whoever she is this week," Elizabeth said as she took her last bite. Carly only managed to get up and walk away. She had no response. "Mmm, mmm, that was so delicious."
"I'm glad you liked it," Sonny replied.
"Oh I wasn't talking about the lasagna. I was talking about handing Carly her ass, like she deserves, but the lasagna was good too," Elizabeth replied looking at Sonny with a smile.
Jason had to bite back another laugh. It was the first time in his recollection that someone got the better of Carly. Usually, Carly could argue her way out of it. He couldn't help but admire Elizabeth, and the personality that was revealed today. Jason noted that she was bright, deceptively so. It was obvious that she was innocent, but it was clear that she was angry and with all the forthcoming revelations her thoughts and feelings on these matters were going to be more verbalized. He would be lying if the wasn't hurt when he heard her say that she never wanted to see him again, and obviously remembered rather acutely his former relationship with Courtney. He was unsure how to save what felt like a sinking ship.
