When I stepped through the door, I locked it, setting my stuff in my room before I went to go see my mom and Toshinori, who were sitting on the couch and talking.
"Ah, you're here now. You missed getting introduced to Mina, but that's fine. I'll show you off to her eventually, I'm sure." I told the skinny man, watching him look up from his paperwork. It seemed like he brought work home with him.
"Well, look who's home. How was the date, Casanova?" Toshinori teased, my mother smiling a little.
"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. Did mom tell you what happened?"
"Of course she did. And as your mentor, It's my solemn duty to tease you." He paused like he just remembered something.
"Oh, I took the liberty of picking up your costume from school. You're going to have an opportunity to use it during our trip to I-Island."
I-Island? The place with the best gear in the world and where my girlfriend was right now? Yes, please.
"Wait, and no one had me pack a bag?" I asked, running to my room to find a new one, an All Might suitcase that could fit plenty of clothes and things I needed, as well as stuff I didn't need.
It was so cool, and once I'd packed all the stuff I needed, I took it to the living room, my mom and Toshinori waiting with bags I can only assume they had packed but hid so I didn't catch on.
"All Might suitcase." I told them, pointing at the bag and doing a silly dance, and almost tripping over my feet in the process.
"Come on, we'll be late if we don't get going." My mom told me, shaking her head in a mix of laughter and disappointment.
"If I knew we were going on vacation, I could have planned accordingly." I reminded them, taking their bags with a grin.
"Well, it wouldn't be a surprise if you knew, would it smarty-pants?" She replied, and I had no argument. She was right as usual.
Luckily, Toshinori had called for a car, and I didn't have to carry all the luggage to the airport, which, now that I think about it, was probably impossible anyway.
As soon as we were on the plane, I closed my eyes and slept, eager to avoid watching my mother and Toshinori flirting for a whole plane ride, quickly falling asleep and waking up as the plane landed.
"Ugh, light? Shouldn't it be nighttime?" I complained, rubbing my eyes.
"Go on ahead, Inko. I'd like to speak with Izuku for a moment." All Might spoke, and as I watched her go, I couldn't help but wonder what he wanted, shaking sleep from my head.
"My boy, I've been thinking. You and I are bonded by something thicker than blood, One-For-All. But, I would... that is to say... oh boy, I'm not good at this. Izuku, I would like to ask you, as your mother's only child, if you would be alright with you if while we're here, I asked your mother to marry me." The hero asked me, giving me a lot to think about. He was already the main male influence in my life, and he was the only father figure I'd ever really had. Plus, he acted like a dad already with his stupid puns and advice. The only thing that changed was what I called him at home.
"Of course." I told him, trying not to act fazed. As an All Might fanboy, I'd won. I had the ultimate collectible.
"Good. Um, suit up, I'll be waiting outside with your mother." He told me, and once I'd gotten dressed, I
walked off the plane to find Toshinori buffed up, fans surrounding him.
"It's very pretty here." I commented, watching waves lap at the side of the moving island. It was amazing what technology could do.
"Yes, but we're already behind schedule, and I don't want him to stay all buffed up for too long." My mom told me, making a good point. Wait, schedule? Did she know about Toshinoris plans?
"Yeah, but that's what you get when you date the symbol of peace." I joked, waiting until the crowd leaves him alone, for a blonde girl on a pogo stick to bounce over and jump at him, getting held in a hug.
"Uncle Might!" She squealed, not making a lick of sense. I thought All Might was an only child.
"Mellisa! How are you!?" He asked, putting her down.
"I'm fine. Dad doesn't know you're here yet, so the surprise is still on!" She told him, finally noticing myself and my mom.
"Uh, hi?" I waved, and All Might cleared his throat.
"Oh, uh, yes. Mellisa, meet my partner Inko and her son, Izuku." He told her, and was that a little bit of pride I heard in his voice?
"Oh, I know you. You won the U.A. sports festival, first year exhibition, right?" Mellisa asked, leaning in close to look at my costume.
"That's me. I actually won tickets to come here..." I mumbled, trying to make conversation while my face turned red from behind my mask. There was no need for her to be this close to me.
"So if you're with Uncle Might, that makes you my Aunt Inko, huh?" She asked my mom, looking at her and giving me a chance to escape her closeness.
"Um, I suppose." My mother replied, almost as shocked as I was with this strange girl.
"Mellisa, maybe we should get going?" All Might suggested, and she stood up and smiled.
"Right! Come on!" She told us, and we had no choice but to follow her.
"So... you have siblings To- er, All Might?" I asked the hero, and he just laughed.
"Of course not, Mellisa and I aren't related, I've just known her since birth. Her father and I, David, are good friends." He explained as he put his hand on my moms head. In his buff form, it was about the best he could do since she was so small.
"I'm gonna do mental gymnastics. You know a guy, David, so well his daughter calls you Uncle, and one of your former sidekicks is David Shield, who lives on I-Island." I pointed out, and he laughed.
"I should have known you'd work it out yourself. I'm going to visit David and speak with him about business. I brought you and your mother since there's no party like an I-Island party." He told me, patting my back and almost knocking me off my feet.
"That's so cool. Do you think he'll sign an autograph? Oh man, I can't wait to meet him." Igushed, muttering until I walked into something, looking up to see we'd arrived. How long had I been mumbling?
"David! Good to see you, old friend!" All Might called, the two men clasping hands and shaking.
"It's good to see you too, " David Shield, the guy who's designed everything on my costume that wasn't modified, spoke, looking at my mom and me.
"Oh? And who is this?" He asked while All Might held out his arms and introduced us.
"My partner and her son, Inko and Izuku Midoriya!" He told him, and this time I was sure I could hear pride in his voice.
"So even you can find love, you workaholic?" He joked, and I could see smoke. It seemed like I wasn't the only one who saw it, though.
"Mellisa, why don't you show Izuku around?" David asked, and she nodded.
"Come on, Izuku, there's so much to see!" She told me, and I nodded. It sounded like fun.
"See you guys later." I waved, and once the door shut, I heard the soft poof that meant Toshinori was skinny again.
"Hey, if you don't mind me asking about, is it just your dad and you?" I asked Mellisa, not sure where the question came from, but I didn't retract it.
She was silent for a moment, and I realized how stupid I was.
"Yes. My mother passed away when I was a child." She told me, and I just stood there stupidly. What was I supposed to say?
"I'm sorry, I didn't know. That must have been hard for you." I told her quietly, wondering why I couldn't have just kept my mouth shut and let her show me around? Instead, I opened up old wounds.
"What about you? Is your father alive?" She asked me, and she didn't seem to be too mad about my question.
"Oh, yeah. My parents divorced about a year ago, and before that, they'd been separated since I was a little kid." I told her as casually as if I was talking about the weather.
"Yeah... families are complicated. At least your mom found Uncle Might." She told me, making a little sense, with only one little mistake.
"All Might found my mom." I corrected with a grin, staring over a railing at the island. Right now, no one but those with early access were here. I should be doing every dumb thing under the sun and geeking out right now. I was on vacation, after all.
"Woah, what is that!?" I asked, pointing at a pavilion that was spinning slowly, giving me glimpses of the exhibits inside.
"Oh, that's the pavillion. We've got some of the exhibits there for those with early access to look at, but it's mostly investors and heroes."
"So there's a whole area with gear and heroes, and we're here? That's literally my two favorite things." I told her, making her laugh.
"Come on then." She told me, pulling me along with force I didn't expect from her. But I didn't care. We were gonna see gear and heroes, and I wanted to get a corn dog like you saw Americans do in movies, but right now I was in special interest heaven, making notes and muttering as I walked around and examined the gear, getting autographs from heroes like Godzillo and the American hero Stars and Stripes. She was no All Might, but she was like the American symbol of peace, and that was just awesome.
"So cool! Ah man, I'm in nerd heaven." I mumbled, a little overwhelmed with all of it, but I didn't want to stop looking around.
"Hey, Midoriya, what's going on here?" I heard, turning my neck and looking around for the source and finding Uraraka standing there.
"Oh, hey Uraraka. What are you doing here?" I asked, grinning ear from ear as I sketched the exhibit.
"Are you on a date?" She asked bluntly while looking at Mellisa, the sheer boldness making me drop my notebook, just as Jiro and Yaoyorozu also walked over. What were the odds?
"Of course not. My mom's boyfriend brought us for a family vacation, and he knows David Shield. This is his daughter, Mellisa." I defended myself, almost hurt by the accusation. But she was looking out for her friend, and I hoped she'd do the same for me.
It seemed to work, or at least they didn't push the issue. Thank God.
Once I'd picked up my notebook, the five of us found a cafe to relax at, making idle chit-chat before I questioned where Mina was.
"Well, I only had two guest tickets, and Ochako and Jiro won at rock-paper-scissors." Yaoyorozu explained, and I pulled my phone out, taking off the case and showing three tickets. One for me, and two for guests. I'd won them when I came in first at the sports festival.
"These? I kind of forgot I won these, but you can give them to the others, so they can enjoy the early access too." I offered, smiling as I held them out.
"Hello, how can we help you today?" A familiar voice asked, Kaminari standing next to Uraraka, while Mineta was staring up at Mellisa. I had to give him credit. At least his gaze seemed stuck on her face and not the rest of her body.
"What are you guys doing here?" Jiro asked, Kaminari leaning on her chair and grinning.
"Trying to meet cute girls. It's good to see our first customers fit the bill." He told her before she poked him with an ear jack to the side of his head.
"Shut up." She told him, but she must not have hit him too hard since he just laughed and took our orders.
"Hi, I'm Mineta Minoru." The midget introduced himself to Mellisa, unusually polite and well-behaved.
"Mellisa Shield." She replied, offering her hand and shaking as he took it, still not trying to climb up her or look at her body. This was probably a record for him.
"You two better be living up to the standards of U.A.!" Iida called as he ran over, and I wondered just how much of the class was here.
"Like you did?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. I liked Iida, but sometimes he forgot he went on a quest for murderous vengeance and was no better than the rest of us.
"Point taken." He replied, putting his hands up in verbal defeat.
"Jeez. Who isn't here? Like, if Kirishima or Sero shows up, I'm gonna be genuinely annoyed that no one said anything about it in the group chat. We could have made plans." I complained, and Yaoyorozu gave me a silent look.
"Yes, I know I didn't tell anyone either, but this was a surprise visit for me, All Might didn't tell me." I argued, and in one sentence, I'd accidentally played all my cards.
"Why would All Might tell you?" Uraraka asked, but for once in my life, I was happy to hear an explosion, running off to find its source.
