Well. Guess we're about to be getting into the next major part of the story.
"So... why are we helping the Hassaikai? We ought to just grab Toga and book it. There's bound to be an underworld doctor who can help her."
Spinner looked over towards Shigaraki with a look of concern and frustration as he seemed to take issue with their current objective.
The villain was looking out the window with a bored expression as he watched the blur of the highway pavement and the mediocre view of the city from the outskirts.
As it soon became clear that his boss was lost in thought the reptilian groaned in annoyance while turning his attention back to the road.
"Why do you care about justice?"
Much to Spinners surprise the other man finally spoke for the first time during the entire business trip and his question seemed to throw him for a loop.
"What do you mean? Its the will of Stain of course... the same will your supposed to be devoted to upholding, right?"
Shigaraki sighed in annoyance at the generic answer while turning his head to look at Spinner.
"No. Stain wanted to fix a broken system, he wanted to root out prejudice, greed, and discrimination... but how? How do you take such values out of a human? You can preach about social reform all you want but no matter how many hearts he reached it'll never be enough."
Spinner turned the truck to get off of the highway and stopped at the nearby stop sign before turning right. They seemed to have reached a downtrodden and disgusting ghetto part of the city.
"You can't be serious about that. Shigaraki. Do you really believe that humanity is so lost in its worst vices that no amount of effort and good will can bring forth a meaningful change?"
Shigaraki grit his teeth in anger while slamming his fist down on the dashboard.
"Of course I believe that you optimistic fool! Everyone just thinks that heroes will fix everything! But they don't! All heroes do is breed complacency and ignorance! Because of them all people want to do is sweep anything problematic under the rug and pretend like nothing is ever wrong because the HEROES will make it all better! I'm sick of it!"
Spinner simply stared wide eyed in shock as the decay user went off on a tangent while screaming like an unhinged maniac.
After sometime Shigaraki took a deep breath and calmed down while sitting back and putting his feet up against the dashboard while crossing his arms.
"You are completely insane." Spinner said dejectedly.
"Oh please. Because your such a moral paragon right? Look at you! Cosplaying as a fucking cereal killer while on his way to a drug deal."
The scaled villain grit his teeth in frustration while clenching the wheel and making the next turn a bit more aggressive than need be causing a nearby driver to honk in rage as he pulled out in front of them.
"You know its not that simple!"
With one final turn Spinner stopped in the middle of the road and put the truck into reverse before backing up into an alleyway where he could see their dealers waiting near the center of the dirty graffiti ridden area.
"We're here." He said in exasperation while shutting the vehicle off and pocketing the keys.
Shigaraki sighed while opening the door before the two approached a sketchy looking woman covered in tattoos with a briefcase in hand.
"You got the cash?" The woman asked bluntly with a no nonsense attitude.
Far from intimidated, Shigaraki walked up to her, while stopping only four feet away.
"That depends. Show us the product first." He said in a bored tone.
The woman looked at him with an annoyed and bewildered expression but Shigaraki simply stood there seemingly unimpressed with the business ethic of Overhaul's partners.
After a long and uncomfortable passage of time, she finally relented and waved another man over who was holding a briefcase similar to Shigaraki's.
With a feral scowl the man held it up high and opened it to reveal the contents.
"Mind if we do a little inspection?" Spinner asked while approaching the briefcase.
The two dealers seemed a bit upset by the request as the man suddenly pulled it back only causing the two villains to glare in suspicion.
"Hey come on guys. We're all friends here. Just let us take a look and we'll give you the money." Spinner said with a friendly smile while slowly reaching for a concealed knife.
"Yknow... you guys dont look like the usual delivery boys that Chisaki sends our way." The woman said while rubbing her chin in a thoughtful and suspicious manner.
Shigaraki narrowed his eyes in annoyance while opening his palm and taking a step forward.
"Just give us the damn briefcase." He said clearly not wanting to spend any more time in their presence.
The two dealers backed away with an uneasy expression across their faces as they drew their guns.
"You know what. Fuck this."
Shigaraki backed away and knocked on the side of their truck two times.
Dabi looked up from his phone in surprise before turning his attention towards the window on the skylight window and looking over towards Compress.
The escape artist nodded in understanding and stood by the window holding his hands together to give the flame user a boost.
With an annoyed expression he got back in the truck and waited for them to depart.
Noticing a newcomer crawling out of the top of the truck the two dealers immediately raised their guns to meet him.
Making note of their shift in attention, Spinner was quick to throw a couple knives at the two dealers effectively piercing their stomachs and causing them to fall to the ground in pain.
"This is what you called me out here for?" Dabi asked with an annoyed look while walking towards the end of the truck.
The flame user looked down in pity and disgust as he lit up his hands and prepared to incinerate the two nobodies.
"Make sure not to damage the product!" Spinner yelled from below.
The reptilian immediately cringed afterwards as Dabi seemed to disregard his warning and lit the deadbeats on fire.
As he soaked in the sound of their agonized screams Dabi sat down on top of the truck and let the smell of their burning flesh fill the air.
For the next minute or so, Spinner looked on in astonishment and horror as the dealers bones were incinerated.
After the flames simmered down a bit the reptilian noticed the briefcase still in tact and went to go grab it.
"Ow! Thats hot!"
He threw the briefcase down as it seemed to have been heated up to an insane degree and looked up at Dabi in annoyance.
"You idiot! What if the briefcase wasn't fire proof?! You could've just destroyed the very thing we drove a fucking hour to come get!" He said in anger.
Dabi merely shrugged while hopping down from the truck and opening the back door.
"Compress, come put this thing in a marble will ya? Apparently its too hot for scale hands here to handle." The black haired villain said in a mocking tone.
"Really now? Did you have to go that far Dabi?" The man asked while coming to put the product on ice.
Spinner rolled his eyes while grabbing the marble and heading back to the drivers seat while the other two villains shut the back door.
The reptilian started up the truck and proceeded to head back to the Hassaikai headquarters.
Sometime later they'd just gotten back into the city and Shigaraki grabbed the marble from the coffee holder before breaking it and unsealing the briefcase.
With a cold and weary stare the man opened up the briefcase and grabbed the product they'd been sent to retrieve.
Spinner looked over in surprise as he heard the man growling in anger a few seconds later.
"Those jackasses were going to give us bootleg Trigger."
Shigaraki slammed the case shut and rubbed his eyes in annoyance while throwing it to the side next to the other case with the money in it.
Though the truck ride to and from was already filled with few words, a tense atmosphere that previously wasn't there gradually started to ware on Spinner as the decay user seemed to become more upset than he already was.
"So... uhh...what do wa-"
"Just Dont! Please!"
As it became apparent just how done the man was with the day Spinner looked back towards the road with an uneasy look in his eyes.
'I hope Shigaraki sticks to his plan to get us out of this mess... I really don't like that Overhaul scumbag one bit and these errands are both exhausting and unrewarding.'
Later on the group of villains had gotten back to the base and Shigaraki carried the two briefcases on his way to see Overhaul. He'd gone through the paranoid gangsters stupidly elaborate maze and it seemed to worsen his already sour mood.
The villain callously kicked the door to his office open and immediately set the two briefcases down on the table in front of him.
Overhaul looked at the two briefcases and rubbed his forehead in exasperation as he leaned over with an annoyed look.
"Why are there two of them? I explained this very clearly. Drop one off. Pick one up. That is how business works."
For once it seemed as though both men were actually on the same wavelength as Shigaraki sat down in the chair across from him and slumped back in defeat.
"Open the one on the left."
Overhaul raised a brow in suspicion at the order.
"Just trust me. Thats what we're working on right? Trust." Shigaraki said in a cold dead tone with a tired look in his eyes.
The crime boss slowly pulled the case over and opened it to see what was inside.
As he pulled out one of the five syringes and examined it, the mans eyes narrowed in anger.
"This is an incomplete version. If my men were to take this then the effect would last half as long and the repercussions would be far more severe."
"Yes. And your dealers were going to sell it to me. That is... until they tried to kill me first since I wasn't who they were expecting."
Overhaul closed the case and set it to the side before turning his attention back towards the other villain.
"You made me a promise. I do this and you heal Toga. Get on it." The younger villain rudely demanded while staring into Overhaul's cold dead eyes.
The crime boss looked on in indifference while resting his hand on the case and disintegrating it with his quirk. He then proceeded to pull a tablet out of the desk drawer and start to fiddle with it much to Shigaraki's annoyance.
"I said that I would bring her back to a healthy condition after a job well done. The fault of this is not yours. However, I will not reward half baked results."
Shigaraki narrowed his eyes in rage while clenching the arm rests of the chair he was sitting in and standing up while leaving it to rot under the effects of his quirk.
"You arrogant bastard! I've been gone for nearly three hours just to obtain that crap! I don't care what you will and wont reward! Fix her now!"
In the face of his childish anger Overhaul seemed completely unphased as he calmly sat back and tossed him the tablet.
"I have taken the liberty of setting up a new deal. This one is a two hour drive, but I have more faith in the integrity of this distributer. Bring me back some functional trigger and I will honor my word."
At this point Shigaraki was absolutely seething in rage as he pocketed the tablet and looked at the man with nothing but hatred.
"I hate you so much."
Much to Shigaraki's annoyance, Overhaul continued to look on without a care in the world about his reactions.
"Hate all you want. Just make yourself useful while you do."
As his anger finally reached a boiling point the younger villain slammed his hands down on the desk causing it slowly decay as he growled in rage.
"I ought to kill you. Right here. Right now."
Though uncaring and devoid of anything resembling sympathy, Overhaul wasn't one to take a threat anything less than with complete seriousness, the once calm man stood from his seat as his facade of indifference faded and a look of deadly seriousness could be seen in his glare.
"Then take your best shot."
The two villains stared each other down waiting to see what the other might do next while trying to prepare themselves to respond accordingly.
As Shigaraki looked deep into the older villain's eyes he could see the pure killer intent. A tinge of fear coursed through him, though he'd never give Overhaul the satisfaction of seeing such a response. He stood back and recomposed himself.
"Fine... Just being away from you is incentive enough at this point."
Shigaraki turned to leave while flipping Overhaul off in the process.
The crime boss sat back down and looked at his destroyed desk with a blank expression.
"He is fascinating. I'll give him that much."
Overhaul leaned down and rested a finger on the decayed desk restoring it back to its original condition.
After having done so he looked down at his finger and saw that touching it activated a residual effect of Shigaraki's quirk.
He groaned in annoyance while touching his hand and deforming it before restoring it to original condition as well.
'I think I'll go pay pops a quick visit. See how he's holding up.' He thought to himself while standing up and taking his leave.
Just a few doors down Overhaul looked over to see the only person he cared about. With a look of regret he slowly walked over to the unconscious man.
"Hey pops. The plan is nearly complete, our organization is going to rule. Just like the old days."
Overhaul reached down and caressed the man's cheek with his finger.
"I promise. You wont even want to be in charge again after you've seen what I've done in your name."
For some time, Overhaul sat with the boss as he contemplated how to bring him back into the fold.
Eventually he'd sit up and decide to give the man his space.
"The heroes are coming soon. They want to destroy everything that I have worked so hard to achieve... but I wont let them. This is all for you afterall."
Right as he was about to leave Overhaul looked over in intrigue. He diverted his course from the door and looked down at Himiko Toga.
The young blonde slept peacefully in her stretcher. Most definitely guaranteed not to awake unless he willed it.
'Why does he fight so hard for you? One little pawn... Another reason why someone like Tomura Shigaraki should never be left to rule the shadows. His foolish priorities are nothing but a wasted effort.'
And that's the chapter, hope everyone enjoyed it.
