Chapter 3: The Basketball Club!
In the last chapter of "The Dragon Phantom Sixth Man":
Kuroko then got out of the car and stared at his new school in awe. It was definitely twice the size of all the other schools he had seen nearby his home.
Teiko Junior High, a school with an amazing record of both academics and especially sports, namely basketball.
The light blue haired boy couldn't help but grin as he thought back to the promise he and Ogiwara made a few years back. He was definitely going to accomplish it, no matter what it takes!
Normal POV
Kuroko then pulled out a book that he had recently purchased from his bag as he began walking inside the school. Since he didn't have any friends going to the same school, he might as well entertain himself with some reading. As he passed through the gate, there he saw many tables arranged at the sides as the entire area was completely crowded.
The light blue haired boy shifted his attention from the book to look at one of the signs that was placed on a nearby table that read:
"The Book Club, from academics to fantasy, we welcome anyone interested in the book culture!"
He believed that the students who were crowding the area were all second and third years in the school, wanting to try and persuade the new first years into joining their clubs. He had seen that occur before during his time in middle school. Fortunately for him, due to his lack of presence, he would never have to worry about getting flocked by them, only having to worry about getting knocked down by anyone who was unaware of his presence.
He returned to reading his book, finding it much more enjoyable than any of the sights around the school right there and then. As he carried on walking, he was unaware to the presence of two females who were currently walking towards his direction.
The first was a female with navy blue hair that reached all the way to her shoulders, she has dark skin, and she has dark blue eyes and has a massive smirk on her face. She has an athletic body with muscles not really showing. She is wearing the Teiko Junior High's female uniform.
The second was a female with long, bright pink hair that reaches her lower back as her pink orbs were filled with excitement. She also has a well-endowed body that would make any male lust over, and just like her friend, she too is wearing the Teiko Junior High's female uniform.
"Hey, Dai-chan, what club did you decided to join?" the girl with pink hair asked her friend, curiousity laced in her tone as the dark skinned girl scoffed at the question being asked at her.
"Huh? Don't ask me something so obvious, Satsuki." the female with navy blue hair called "Dai-chan" replied.
"Of course it's going to be the Basketball Club." she said with an excited smile on her face as they proceeded on walking through the school.
"I heard that it's pretty strong, so I'm looking forward to it." The pinkette hummed in response to her friend as she flashed her a smile.
"Oh, then maybe I can be the team manager or something? I'm not as good a player as you after all." 'Dai-chan' merely waved her friend's comment off with a smile as if motioning her to do so.
"Oh, do you want me to make you lunch for your practices? I can do it every day if you want" the female with pink hair asked curiously, her eyes shining brightly as the tanned skinned girl immediately paled at the thought.
"No thank you." She said quickly with a slight shudder that went unnoticed by her friend before adding on, "If you did, I'd probably be unable to play basketball anymore." And with that, she began walking further ahead at a faster pace.
"Wait. What's that suppose to mean?" the female with pink hair asked as she chased after her friend, demanding for an answer.
As they walked, neither one of them noticed the presence of the light haired blue boy, as the navy haired girl bumped into him. Despite this, Kuroko kept on advancing forward, mumbling an "I'm sorry" to her.
The girl turned back and just as she was about to apologise to the person she had bumped into, to her shock, no one was behind her.
"Wait, huh?" The girl began looking about, trying to find the mysterious being she had collided with, only to find nothing.
"What's wrong?" the pinkette asked after seeing her tanned skin friend acting weird in public, to which caused her to look around as well.
"Nothing…" She responded unconfidently before deciding to shrug off the incident as nothing.
"Oh well, guess it was just my imagination." With that, the two carried on walking through the school.
Meanwhile, the light blue haired boy was still carrying on his walk through the school, still face deep into his book and seemed to have no intention of looking up, yet he skillfully avoided the people surrounding him.
"Oh, do you like books? How about joining the lit club?" a student with glasses asked as he held a stack of paper in his arms as Kuroko walked pass the student and behind him stood a female with green hair that reached all the way to her back, she was wearing glasses and was holding a rather thick book in her hand. Like the many others around her, she was wearing the Teiko Junior High's female uniform.
"No thank you, this is in fact, a phone book nanodayo." the female said as she raised her glasses upwards.
"A phone book is a really fine book!" the male student said before he realised what the green haired female had said.
"Wait, why are you carrying a phone book around with you?" he asked curiously, not finding any reason to have it along with…practically anyone.
"It was in fact, Oha-asa's Lucky item of the day nanodayo." the green haired female responded as if it were the most obvious thing in the world before walking off, leaving the student in the middle of the road.
As she walked, along the side were a group of females which surrounded an extremely tall female with short violet hair that reached her shoulders, her eyes were a similar shade to hair as well.
"Woah you're so tall." a male student exclaimed.
"Please join the volleyball team!" another male said, desperately begging the girl who hummed to herself.
"Hmm? What to do?" the female asked herself before sighing.
"Or rather, this is such a bother." She said as she wiped the flower petals that were on her head.
Kuroko carried on walking through the school, passing yet another group of boys which surrounded a girl. As he walked by them, he could hear one of them whisper to the other,
"Hey, isn't that girl pretty?"
Complete hormonal driven teenagers at their best.
The boy slowly looked up from his book to see the girl that was being surrounded, she had long blonde hair which reached to her hips, and had ocean blue eyes, before deciding that it wasn't any of his business and carried on reading his book.
"What's your name?"
"Please go out with me!"
"I want you!"
The blonde groaned silently to herself as the number of boys that surrounded her were growing by the minute, and the group of girls at the corner were clearly not going to offer her any help to her.
As all of this were taking place, outside the school, a luxurious car then parked right in front of the gate as a man wearing a standard black tuxedo opened the back door and out came a beautiful looking female with long red hair that reached all the way to her back. The students that were entering all stared at her in awe at her elegance and beauty she possessed.
"Are you sure that this spot is alright? I could drive inside if you want, I'm sure it's no hassle." the man asked worriedly to which the girl waved off his concern.
"Yes it is. Also, I won't need a chauffeur tomorrow." the female said to the man with a small smile.
"Your father will make an issue about-" the man was cut off by the female who put out her hand.
"It's not about him. Besides if every morning is like this, I will get mocked by the other students."
"Let school at least be somewhere I have freedom." the female said to the man as she smiled and waved him goodbye as the limousine drove off.
With Kuroko
After minutes of walking, Kuroko finally stopped after reaching the centre of the school, a place which was secluded at the moment due to the senior students trying to gather members for their club. The boy then took out a letter he had received from Ogiwara and opened it.
"LET'S DO OUR BEST SO WE CAN GET GAME TIME REAL SOON TO FULFILL OUR PROMISE!"
Kuroko smiled after reading the message as he closed his eyes and looked up to the clear blue sky above him. While there were many options when it came to clubs here in Teiko, his choice was obvious the moment he had step foot into the school.
'I'm joining the Basketball team.' he thought as he held the letter tightly in his hand.
KRIIIING
The school bell resonated throughout the empty courtyard, signalling the start of the first classes. The second years had long since emptied out of the courtyard, rushing towards their respective classrooms. The first year students all sat in their seats, unable to contain their excitement for classes to start.
Kuroko, who was in Class 1-A, sat at the back row of the class, seeing as it was best to avoid any attention brought on to himself, and sitting at the back was the best method to do so.
The moment the teacher entered the class, with a pile of books in hand, she began with introducing herself before welcoming the students to Teiko as Kuroko stared uninterested.
With that, she motioned the students to begin their introduction, all the while Kuroko was already staring out the window seeing that it was more interesting than anything that was happening in the class.
The moment it was Kuroko's turn, he stood up, but the teacher had turned around in order to start the lesson. Kuroko rolled his eyes, inwardly sighing. It wasn't a rare occurrence but it was annoying all the same.
"Excuse me, but I haven't introduced myself yet." He voiced out, causing the teacher, and all of the class to turn back before they all shrieked due to their shock.
While he showed no emotions on the outside, Kuroko did found their reactions amusing, no matter how many times he had already seen it.
"My name is Kuroko Tetsuya, it is a pleasure to meet you all." He bowed and when he was midway of getting up, he saw a pair of red eyes staring straight at him. However, before he could begin searching through the class to whom it belonged to, the teacher had him sit down so that she may conduct the lessons…again.
During the entirety of school, Kuroko had the pleasure of practically of being invisible to both teachers and students alike. While in most cases it was good since he would be able to doze off without getting caught, but it was also bad since he had almost been knocked over by the students, if not for his reflexes. Otherwise he would be returning home after the first day of school with cuts and bruises all over.
He didn't even want to imagine how his mother would react to that.
Immediately after school, Kuroko went to the changing room in order and wore more appropriate clothing meant for sports, which included basketball of course.
He then headed to the gymnasium, where the students wishing to join the basketball club were to assemble.
After entering, the boy was shocked at seeing so many people in the gym. He assumed that there had to be a least a hundred first year students that were in the gym at the moment.
At the front of the gym was a bespectacled man with brown hair and high cheekbones which added on to the stern appearance he wore on his face, he was dressed in a black business suit with a white shirt and black tie, and from what Kuroko noticed, he seemed to be examining the students present based on how his eyes shifted from one side to the other. Beside him was a man with short hair. He wears a formal light-blue shirt with a dark-red tie.
"Alright now all of you quiet down!" the bespectacled man shouted, his voice booming across the gym as everyone became silent within a second. After seeing that it was now silent, the brunette coughed into his hands and began his speech.
"First of all I would like to thank you all choosing the Basketball Club and not any other club that the school provided. Let me tell you from the start, if you think that joining this club would mean that you get to slack off, then think again." He carried on with his speech about how basketball was the major sport of the school and the one they most take pride in as they've won the most tournaments in.
"Alright first up is the placement test where we separate you into different groups based on how well you performed. We have three separate strings in which you will be placed in, the first, second and third." The brunette said as he raised up a single finger.
"And only the first string will get to play in official games as part of the regular roster." the bespectacled man added.
Everyone was shocked at what they heard and stared whispering amongst themselves.
"I hear that almost no one makes it to the first string in these tests." a student said to his friend behind Kuroko whom began to listen to their conversation.
"Are you serious? That means that the second string is the best we can do?" his friend replied in shock, getting a sound of confirmation from him.
"That just means that the second string is our target for today's placement test then!"
Kuroko placed a hand on his heart and realised that it was pounding rapidly. Unsure whether it was due to excitement or nervousness, the light blue haired boy began breathing in some air before a determined look appeared on his face.
'I'll do whatever it takes in order to get myself into the first string!' Kuroko thought determinedly.
Meanwhile, standing right outside of the gym was a blonde female who was looking at the building, staring curiously at it.
"Oh, it sounds pretty rowdy inside there. I wonder what kind of club it is?" the blonde female said to herself as she began rubbing the back of her head.
"What should I do now that I have free time?" the female mumbled as she placed her hands into the pockets of her skirt. She then turned away from the direction of the gym.
"Well whatever it is, I'm sure I'll be able to do it if I put in any effort into it." She said with finality and began walking away.
Back in the gym, the students all had time to talk to each other and majority of them made it their goal in order to reach the second string at the very least. Yet, there were a small group of students, five of them to be exact, who all were determined to make it to the first string. Whether or not it was nearly impossible or not, their goal would not change, no matter what!
