I have actually read a lot of stories that also has story recommendations such as mine and no one seems to mind it, but if it really bothers you that much then I may get rid of it if others want it gone as well. Also it is not the summary it is just showing what happened in the previous chapter like how the anime has done it.
Chapter 6: First, Second and Third String Part 3
In the last chapter of "The Dragon Phantom Sixth Man":
Normal POV
Kuroko was left all by himself as he looked down at his palm before clenching it tightly, a smile finding its way to his face.
'Two down, just one more test to go!'
Normal POV
The light blue haired boy decided to sit by the bench beside Akashi and proceeded to take out his bottle of water before chugging it down hungrily.
"You might choke if you drink like that." The redhead commented in amusement as Kuroko sighed in relieve before placing the near finished bottled into his bag.
"I appreciate your concern." The boy said with a small smirk and the girl couldn't help but roll her eyes playfully at this, "So are you prepared for the final test?" Akashi asked as Kuroko placed a hand on his chin as he thought about the question.
"Well shooting isn't really my forte but if it comes down to it, I can say that I'll be alright." Kuroko responded as Akashi smiled.
"So are you saying that passing and dribbling are your specialty?" Akashi asked curiously but Kuroko merely shrugged his shoulders.
"I wouldn't say that as well, although I will say that my passing would be better than my shooting and dribbling" Kuroko said as Akashi nodded her head before a tint of red dusted across the girl's cheeks as she began to fidget in place.
"W-well if you want, I-I could help you with your dribbling and shooting." Akashi suggested as she looked at the ground to hide her blush.
Kuroko then thought about it before he nodded his head as a small smile plastered on his face.
"Yeah, I'll really appreciate it Akashi-san, thank you." Kuroko said as Akashi just nodded her head while she still looked at the ground. At that moment, Naoto stood at the centre of the court as everyone began rushing towards him.
"Well shall we?" Kuroko asked as he then got up from his seat and walked towards the court.
"H-hey wait up!" Akashi said as she chased after the light blue haired male.
"Alright now listen up!"
"Congratulations on making it to the final test of this placement test, I can see that you are all working very hard in this test. So give yourselves a hand!" Naoto said as he then started clapping along with Daigo.
Slowly everyone began following in suit, and before Kuroko even realised it, the entire gym was filled with loud claps/
The moment the clapping stopped, Naoto then looked at Nijimura.
"Nijimura would you like to continue from here?" Naoto asked as Nijimura just smirked as the brown haired coach then walked to the side, allowing Nijimura to stand at his previous place.
"Alright so like Mr. Naoto had said, this is the final test of the placement test. If you screwed up in the previous two tests, then consider this your last shot into heading into the string that you wish to enter." Nijimura explained as everyone then gulped in worry as they looked at each other.
"But if you think that it's going to be a walk in the park, then you all have another thing coming at you." Nijimura said as he pointed at Kubota, Sekiguchi and himself.
"Because you're going to have to score a single shot against one of us."
The entire first year students could only gulp in fear, knowing how much of a challenge it would prove to be based on the other two tests.
"Though an advantage for you all is that instead of letting you shoot only once, we've decided to give you five minutes and you can get as many tries as you want." Nijimura explained as everyone was shocked at what they heard.
Because of that, there was a small debate within the students that five minutes was too little time.
Kuroko merely kept silent as Akashi then touched his shoulder, getting his attention.
"What is it, Akashi-san?" Kuroko asked as Akashi smiled at him.
"How do you think you'll do?" Akashi asked as Kuroko merely shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, "Anything can happen Akashi-san but of course I hope that I'll be able to succeed." Kuroko said as Akashi smiled at him.
"Well I know that you can do it, Kuroko."
"Thank you for your support Akashi-san." Kuroko said with his voice having a hint of gratitude in them and Akashi smiled back at him.
That was the moment Mr. Naoto blew his whistle catching everyone's attention.
"Alright let us begin the final test!" Naoto exclaimed loudly.
As per usual, they started it out with the first groups who all stood in anticipation, waiting for their names to be called for the test.
"Well shall we sit back for a bit?" Kuroko asked the redhead behind him who nodded her head in response as they reached the bench and proceeded to sit down.
The two watched as the groups went on with the test, as per usual, there were many who were unable to score due to the second years' defence while there were some who managed to pull it off, but most of them were against either Kubota or Sekiguchi.
Currently, they were watching the girl with dark blue hair up against Nijimura. Though much like before, the girl managed to break through the captain's defence with exceptional skill and speed before managing to score a perfect Layup/
Kuroko, seeing as the girl managed to ace all of the tests, knew that she would make it to the first string without any problem whatsoever.
"Well, wasn't she extremely good?" Akashi asked to her companion who kept his eyes on the dark blue haired female as Kuroko nodded his head in agreement.
"She really is." Kuroko mumbled and Akashi noticed that Kuroko still had his eyes on the tanned female which caused a feeling of anger to dwell inside her, but she decided to keep her cool.
"So Kuroko…" Akashi called out, trying to get his attention, which worked considering the boy looked away from the dark blue female to the red haired one.
"How many people do you think will pass this final test?" Akashi asked curiously as Kuroko thought about it for a few seconds before he ultimately shrugged his shoulders.
"Those people that failed the first two test can still enter the second string if they pass this. Anything can happen by this point, Akashi-san, it's a matter of how they'll do." Kuroko stated as Akashi could only nod her head.
"I see so that's what you think." Akashi mumbled.
Kuroko, not able to hear what his companion had uttered, decided that it was best to ignore it and turn his attention back to the court where he watched as another student pass by Sekiguchi before scoring a Layup.
The boy was rather uninterested by this, preferring to watch how Nijimura was faring considering that he was the only one out of the three to be going all out on the students, while the other two decided to go easy on them.
Whether or not that had been planned was none of his business.
He would much prefer to fall asleep on the bench and have Akashi wake him up the moment it was their turn again, but there was a few problems to that plan:
Firstly, he didn't want to trouble Akashi again just because he was bored.
Secondly, he may have the opportunity to watch another player of great calibre such as the tanned skin female.
Lastly, and probably the main reason, he was nervous about seeing that dragon again, although it was just a dream, it felt too real to him.
He could feel the intense heat emitted by the dragon when standing close to it, and its eyes stared at him as if it was searching his very being. He would need to get more information later on, especially from his mother.
He looked up just in time to see a girl green hair, barely managing to dribble past Nijimura and scored a Layup, and not a few minutes later, a tall female with purple hair just dribbles pass Nijimura who was unable to get the ball from her, mainly due to her height, before she scored an easy Layup past Nijimura.
Kuroko noticed that the number of people who passed the final test was more in contrast to the other two, which proved his earlier theory right.
Mr. Naoto then blew his whistle as he looked at the group of students who were all sitting on the bench.
"The last group, please get ready." Naoto said and Kuroko got up before holding a hand for Akashi who blushed at Kuroko's gentlemanliness.
"Thank you, Kuroko." Akashi said in a soft voice to which he smiled at her as the two then walked towards the court. The two noticed the captain walking up towards them with a smile on his face.
"Yo! I'll be taking you two while Sekiguchi and Kubota will deal with the other students. I hope you're ready" Nijimura said as Akashi and Kuroko looked at one another.
"So who will take me on first?" Nijimura asked as Akashi then walked forward.
"If you don't mind I would like to go first." Akashi asked Kuroko who just nodded his head and ushered her to go ahead.
"Alright then, let us begin the final test for you, Akashi." Nijimura said as he passed a ball to Akashi.
Akashi caught the ball and Nijimura then stood near the basket as Akashi stood from the three point line.
"Begin." Nijimura said as Akashi then dribbled the ball towards Nijimura.
Nijimura then pressured her as Akashi moved back, just then Akashi then pulled off a crossover past Nijimura moving towards the basket before scoring the Layup.
Nijimura then cursed at how easy he was beaten as Akashi passed the ball back to him, flashing a smirk at his direction to which he looked down in embarrassment.
The girl then proceeded to walk back towards Kuroko who watched with a smile on his face.
"If I can beat him that easily then you would have no problem for sure in beating him, Kuroko." Akashi said in a smile as Kuroko nodded his head as he walked over to the three point line.
Nijimura then passed the ball to Kuroko who caught the ball before shouting out, "Begin!"
Nijimura immediately got into a defensive stance as Kuroko started.
Kuroko then attempted to feint moving towards the left and move over to the right but Nijimura predicted it and slapped the ball away.
Kuroko's eyes widened in shock as the ball bounced away.
"You have to try harder if you want to pass me and score." Nijimura said with a serious expression on his face as Kuroko quickly got the ball back and started dribbling forward.
Kuroko then ran through to the side, dribbling past Nijimura before attempting to make a shot, however, Nijimura had jumped right in front of him, blocking his view of the basket. Forcing to shot, Nijimura slapped the ball away as Kuroko chased after the ball before charging back in again.
Kuroko, like Akashi before, pulled off a crossover on the captain, but wasn't able to pass the taller male. Kuroko then gritted his teeth in frustration as Akashi watched worriedly.
'Come on Kuroko, you can do it.' Akashi thought as Nijimura slapped the ball away from Kuroko's hand again.
Kuroko started panting a bit as he got the ball again.
'Damn this is definitely tougher than the other two tests, now I see why a lot of people failed to pass him.' Kuroko thought with a grunt.
"Come on, Kuroko! Prove to me that you're the player that I thought you are. Show me how determined you are!" Nijimura shouted as Kuroko stopped for a while.
'I want to join the first string and if I can't pass this test then there is no way I can! I need to score this.' Kuroko thought as he inhaled before exhaling.
Kuroko's face then held no emotion as he then dribbled the ball slowly.
Nijimura then extended his hand to reach for the ball but Kuroko then shot the ball under Nijimura's legs, shocking the black haired male.
Kuroko then proceeded to make a shot, but because he put in too much strength in his shot, the ball bounced off the rim. Nijimura was definitely surprised by the move the boy had pulled off and smirked as he watched Kuroko chase after the ball.
'I can't let my guard down.' Nijimura thought as he aimed for the ball.
Kuroko then bounced the ball under the captain's legs yet again but this time Nijimura was prepared and stopped the ball.
Nijimura then passed the ball to Kuroko who stepped out to the three point line.
"You only have 30 seconds left, Kuroko! You better step it up." Nijimura said with a smirk as Akashi's worry seemed to have reached its maximum point from how she bit her lips.
Kuroko then dribbled the ball slowly as he moved forward.
Nijimura then looked at the ball as Kuroko charged forward.
'Even if I think you would be a good player to enter the first string, I won't let you get pass me!' Nijimura thought as he charged for the ball.
Time seemed to have moved slower than usual as Nijimura reached for the ball and just when he was about to slap it away, Kuroko spun around him. Which meant that the basket was now open.
Kuroko then ran towards the basket before scoring an easy Layup.
Nijimura could only stare in shock as the ball bounced off the ground before a smile appeared on his face. To think that the boy would pull off a skill like that against him.
Kuroko immediately sighed in relief as he began walking towards Akashi who had a big smile plastered on her face.
"I knew you could do it, Kuroko." Akashi said as Kuroko smiled gratefully at her.
"Thank you for believing in me, Akashi-san." Kuroko said as Nijimura then walked towards the two.
"Well congratulations are due for the both of you since you both passed the final test!" Nijimura congratulated as the two smiled.
"Well just sit down for a bit, will you? There are still some others who have not finished yet and Mr. Naoto would need to determine the strings each student would enter. While waiting, why don't you two go ahead and take a seat, alright?" Nijimura smiled as the two nodded their heads.
As Nijimura walked away, Kuroko and Akashi then walked to a bench as the two then drank their water and started a conversation.
The two began talking about all sorts of things, clearly engrossed in their talk that they hadn't even realised the test had ended until Mr. Naoto blew his whistle.
"Alright, now we shall now announce what string each student will be going to." Mr. Naoto said as everyone quickly hurried over to the court as nervousness began to fill their very being.
"Now let us start with the third string members." Mr. Naoto said as he held a paper in his hands.
Mr. Naoto began calling out the names of the students of the new third string members along with their jersey number.
The people who were called out, all looked disappointed while the others silently cheered that they managed to reach their goal.
Immediately after that, Mr. Naoto began calling out names for the second string along with their jerseys.
However, neither Kuroko nor Akashi had been called yet.
"Now for those of you entering the first string." Mr. Naoto said and everyone was shocked at what they heard.
They heard that no one makes it to the first string during the placement tests!
"Firstly, Akashi Seira, Number 9."
Akashi then smiled in satisfaction when she heard her name called.
"Next up, Aomine Daina, Number 6."
The dark blue haired female now known as Aomine smiled.
"Midorima Shinju, Number 7."
The green haired female now known as Midorima merely raised her glasses.
"Murasakibara Anko, Number 5."
The purple haired female giant now known as Murasakibara smiled lazily when she heard her name being called out by the coach.
Kuroko then started being nervous although his face wasn't showing it, but it was clear when his fists clenched tightly.
"And lastly, Kuroko Tetsuya, Number 15. Alright we will see you all tomorrow for training." Mr. Naoto said.
The two coaches from Teiko then walked away as everyone began talking with each other. Akashi immediately turned over to Kuroko with a smile.
"Well, it looks like we'll be teammates from now on, Kuroko." Akashi said as Kuroko nodded his head.
"I can't wait to work with you, Akashi-san." Kuroko said as Akashi giggled in response.
Just then the tanned skin girl, now revealed as Aomine Daina began walking towards the two with a wide smile across her face.
"Hey there! It's nice to meet you!" Aomine greeted as Akashi smiled at her.
"It's nice to meet you too" Akashi greeted.
"Say, where is that Kuroko person? I've seen everyone else, and I wanted to meet him." Aomine asked as she looked around, but there were no traces of him whatsoever.
"I'm right here." Kuroko's emotionless voice said from behind the tanned female who turned around and screamed.
"W-when did you get there?" Aomine asked as she placed a hand over her pounding heart as she panted heavily to which Kuroko gave her a deadpan stare.
"I was always there." Kuroko stated with an emotionless tone as Akashi giggled at Aomine's shocked face.
