Chapter 25: The Final Day of the GMG!
In the last chapter of "I Will Love You No Matter What":
If everyone were to look outside at that moment, everyone would be shocked to see shooting stars in the sky and a crimson star right in the centre of town, but it actually wasn't a star.
It was merely a Dragon Prince and his beloved mate, holding each other passionately in the night sky.
Normal POV
After the 'magical performance', Natsu carried Kei back to their hotel room and placed her in bed after the black haired beauty fell asleep as he was flying her back.
'Goodnight Kei.' Natsu thought as he placed a soft kiss on her forehead before exiting the room. Kei then smiled softly right as soon as Natsu left the room.
Natsu then realized something as he thought back about the night at the bar. Or more like the lack of person in said bar.
'Oh shit, Gajeel still hasn't come back after I kicked him down the mine, damn.' Natsu cursed himself as he immediately took off.
Now, this is usually the time where Natsu would have brought Happy with him, but knowing his Blue Exceed, he would probably want to spend time with his own mate. That and he didn't feel like being a cockblock at the moment.
Natsu was running through the streets of Crocus before he stopped before sniffing the air. Natsu then detected the Iron Dragon Slayer's scent nearby and sighed in relief, just as he was about to walk away, he detected Gray's, Lucy's, Panther Lily's along with Wendy and Charles's scent along with him.
'Where are they off to at this time of hour?' Natsu thought to himself as he followed them quietly, cloaking his scent with his flames to make sure he wouldn't be detected by the two Dragon Slayers.
The group then entered the Domus Flau, causing Natsu to raise his eyebrow in suspicion but he wasn't about to make any assumption as to why the group were there.
Gajeel then brought them under the stadium and Natsu's eyes widened at what he was seeing.
'Dragon bones? What on Earthland are they doing here?' Natsu thought to himself before he realized why they were here.
'I see, so these are the dragons that have partaken in the Dragon King Festival.' Natsu thought as Gajeel began explaining to the group about how a certain idiot had kicked him there and instantly recognized the familiar scent of dragons around him.
"Do you think that some of the bones here could belong to your dragons?" Lucy asked and Wendy and Gajeel were frightened by the thought of it, but before they could say anything, Natsu decided to make his presence noted.
"Nope, none of these Dragons are the dragons that we've been looking for." Natsu said as everyone looked at him in surprise.
"Natsu?!" everyone practically shouted at him in shock as Natsu had to cover his ears from the loud sound.
"Could you guys get any louder? Geez, have you forgotten that I have sensitive hearing?" Natsu grumbled before the group composed themselves.
"Natsu, what are you doing here?" Lucy asked.
"Well, I was feeling slightly guilty for kicking Gajeel into the mine all by his lonesome self, so I decided to check on him." Natsu shrugged which caused Gajeel growled at him.
"Not only that but YOU were the one that knocked me out and I missed my chance to prove myself!" Gajeel said and Natsu shrugged his shoulder.
"Don't worry, there's still one more day, besides that battle was too fun for you to ruin!" Natsu said happily as Gajeel was about to jump on Natsu when Gray stopped him from getting himself hurt.
"So flame-brain, how'd you know that none of these dragons are yours?" Gray asked curiously and Natsu chuckled.
"That's easy, it's because of how the bones look." Natsu said, confusing the group.
"How the bones look?" Lucy asked and Natsu sighed.
'And they called me the dumb one before.' Natsu thought but decided to explain to the group nonetheless.
"As you can see these bones are a bit too dull and it looks like they've been here for a VERY long time and that wouldn't be the case for the dragons' we're looking for since we haven't seen them in about fourteen years." Natsu explained as he hid a smirk from them.
'That and I met all of them just a few days ago.' Natsu thought as he looked at their shocked expression.
"When and where did you get a brain, Natsu?" Lucy asked and Charles rolled her eyes.
"Well at least that ruffian finally is finally using it for a change." Charles said and Natsu lightly glared at her.
'Now I can see why Happy settled for Sachi rather than Charles.' Natsu thought as he shook his head.
"Anyways, what do you guys plan on doing now that we're here?" Natsu asked curiously.
"Well, we wanted to have Wendy here to speak to one of the spirits of the dragons to find out what happened here." Lucy said causing Natsu to be confused before he realized why.
"I get it, it's because of the new move she learned, Milky Way, right?" Natsu asked and Wendy nodded her head happily.
"Yes!" Charles then looked at the Dragon Slayer suspiciously.
"How did you know that when you weren't even with us during training?" Charles asked and Natsu silently cursed himself for letting that slip.
'Damn, I forgot about that little fact.' Natsu thought as he turned to the white Exceed.
"Well, remember the time you told me that Porlyusica gave you the papers for those techniques? Well I demanded that she give some to me as well and that if she knew the Edolas Igneel." Natsu lied in a perfectly believable tone that would have tricked even a lie detector.
"Well did she know him?" Lucy asked curiously but Natsu sighed and shook his head.
"Not even a single clue apparently. But anyways, let's focus on the task!" Natsu said and everyone nodded their heads at that and although Charles accepted the secret prince's answer, she still gave a suspicious glance at him.
'Phew, I'm glad that they're all so simpleminded.' Natsu thought happily as he walked towards them.
"So, Wendy show us what you got." Natsu said and Wendy nodded her head as she kneeled to the ground before she then draws an intricate Magic circle on the ground with Wendy being in the middle of it.
"Wandering dragon souls, please assist me and receive your voices. Milky Way!" Wendy then throws her arms to the air and a beam of green light springs from the earth into the sky, creating a ripple of light that moves outwards in bursts. These beams of light sparkle like stars and form ribbons of light that move throughout the area
"Wow, it's so beautiful." Lucy commented and while all this, Natsu was being cautious when the younger Dragon Slayer was performing the move.
'I hope she doesn't find one that's against the human race. Otherwise, that'll prove to be a problem.' Natsu thought.
The light began touching all the bones nearby.
"Wendy, what are you doing?" Gray asked.
"She's searching for the dragon souls, to try and find any remaining spirit that has not gone up to heaven yet." Natsu answered as he felt Wendy should concentrate more.
And just when Gray was about to ask Natsu how he knew all of that, Wendy's eyes opened.
"I found one!" Wendy said, loud enough for everyone to hear.
Wendy then stood up as she clasps her hands together, and the Magic circle beneath glows a bright green colour.
The bands of light then comes together, swirling to create a portal up in the air as everyone looked at it anxiously.
"Oi, are you sure that it's a soul you've found?" Panther Lily questioned nervously.
Wendy started concentrating harder and before anyone knew it, a large green hand escaped through the portal.
Gray and the others were shocked and freaked out by this and Natsu merely kept a passive face.
The dragon soul then extended its wings as it roared loudly through the cave.
The dragon soul had jagged scales. Its ears tapered off to one side and feature darkened ends. It also has two, long strands of hair on its chin.
Gray, Lucy, Gajeel and the two Exceeds shouted out in fear, scared at the appearance of the dragon while Natsu gritted his teeth.
'Damn it, why must it be Zirconis of all dragons.' Natsu cursed himself of his bad luck, recalling the time his mother told him about Zirconis.
She told him that it was one of the dragons against the Human-Dragon notion as he values them as food.
Zirconis then laughed out loud, seeing the scared looks on the human's faces.
"Even in death, nothing beats scaring away those measly humans. It's hilarious!" Zirconis said happily as everyone, but Natsu, who was too busy glaring at him, and Wendy who was still trying to keep a hold on the spell.
"My name is Zirconis and from where I was from, I was known as the Jade Dragon and I'm really impressed that you were able to conjure my spirit like you just did. Looks like Grandeeney has some worthy people to call her students. Now…." The Jade Dragon then looked over at the group.
"Which one of you was able to call me out from the dead?" Zirconis asked and his eyes immediately went to Wendy.
"Aww, how adorable." Zirconis then lowered his head towards Wendy.
"So it was this tiny Dragon Slayer who was capable of calling me from my sleep, is it?" Zirconis said and Natsu immediately stepped out.
"If you touch a single strand of hair, I will make sure to send you to your second grave." Natsu said coldly as Zirconis snorted.
"And who do you think-" Zirconis immediately stopped his sentence as he took a good look at Natsu.
The aura surrounding him was extremely powerful and the look in Natsu's eyes told Zirconis that the man in front of him was capable of doing so much more than what he said.
Zirconis then took a step back.
"Geez, lighten up, you humans can't take a joke anymore…." Zirconis mumbled as he raised his hand and tried to slam Natsu to the ground, but his hand phased through Natsu's body.
"Do you really think I could be capable of hurting her? That would be really difficult since I can't even touch you." Zirconis said but Natsu didn't lower his glare at the Jade Dragon.
"Out of all these bones, and we get HIM of all dragons?" Lucy mumbled to the group who nodded amongst themselves.
'Tell me about it.' Natsu thought after hearing what Lucy said.
"Could you tell us about what happened here?" Charles asked from where she stood.
"We were wondering about it since there were so many dragon bones around here. And that was the main reason we decided to summon you in the first place" Panther Lily added.
"I have no interest in talking with you humans." Zirconis said to them.
"Then you don't need to tell us in detail, just answer the question." Natsu said and everyone turned to him.
"Natsu, he may be a spirit but it's still a dragon. Aren't you afraid like Gajeel over there?" Gray whispered to him and Gajeel shouted at the back saying, "I'm not afraid!"
Natsu then rolled his eyes at the question, he was the Dragon Prince for goodness sake, he wasn't afraid of any dragon.
Maybe, his mother was excluded at this point, she was WAY too scary for his liking. Especially the punishments she dished out.
Natsu then shuddered before he turned to the Ice Mage who was waiting for an answer.
"Why should I be scared? That thing's still a spirit and is incapable of touching us. Also, I'm a Dragon Slayer, I was trained to kill beings like him if they were to harm us." Natsu whispered back as he turned to Zirconis.
"Well?"
"Hmm, alright then. I guess there's nothing wrong with me telling you." Zirconis then had a look of reminiscent.
"It was over 400 years ago, dragon kind once ruled over the land, soaring through the skies, walking through the land and swimming across the great oceans. Everything in this world had belonged to us dragons, including humans." And with that, Zirconis began telling the group about how there were two sides of in the Dragon Council, Anti-humans and Pro-humans and how the Pro-humans deciding to teach their magic to humans so that they may assist them in their battle, thus Dragon Slaying Magic being born.
However the plan seems to backfire on them as the humans turned on their allies and started killing them.
"However, there was one individual who continued to kill us dragons and bathe in our blood. So much that it caused her to become Dragons himself, thus with that she killed us all and gained the title of Dragon King and that Dragon was none other than-"
"Acnologia." Natsu finished for the Dragon who smirked as he looked at Natsu, meanwhile everyone turned to him in shock and fear at the name.
"T-that was the dragon we faced at Tenroujima Island!" Lucy said in fear as she recalled the battle between them and the mighty Dragon of Apocalypse seven whole years ago.
"All of Fairy Tail's strongest members were no match for it, not even our Dragon Slayers could match it."
"You're saying that THING used to be human?!" Gray stated in shock.
"Impossible…." Gajeel muttered in shock.
Natsu, on the other hand, noticed the look on their faces and he hid a laugh from escaping his mouth. It was the same reaction he had when he heard the very same news.
"Most of my kind are rotting all because of Acnologia. Everything that you see here took place in the distant past. Humans after all are merely food.…" Zirconis's astral spirit began to vanish into thin air as he turned to face Natsu.
'But it looks like there's at least one human who looks like he has the same strength as HER.' Zirconis said with a smirk before he vanished.
"He vanished!" Gray exclaimed.
"Hey, we weren't done with you yet! Come back and finish that story!" Gajeel shouted angrily into the air.
"Wendy!" Charles then ran towards her human partner, who was no longer surrounded by green aura, in worry.
"I'm very sorry. But all the life energy he had left has ran out. But, I'm very sure that wherever he is now, he'll be able to rest in peace." Wendy said as she looked at Zirconis's astral remains.
"Well, looks like we found ourselves at another sticky situation." Gray said with a forced laugh.
"C-could we just forget about everything that he said?" Lucy asked, shivering in fear.
"Wait, then does that mean we could turn into dragons as well?!" Gajeel shouted, frightened by the prospect.
"I don't want to turn into a dragon!" Wendy cried.
As the two Dragon Slayer began crying over their so called 'fate' in the future, Gray noticed that the remaining Dragon Slayer looked okay after the shocking news.
"Yo flame-brain, you're taking this news relatively well." Gray said and Natsu just shrugged his shoulders.
"What'd you want me to say? We can't change anything even with these facts, so what if Acnologia was a Dragon Slayer before becoming a Dragon Slayer, we can't do anything about it." Natsu said before turning towards a cliff above them.
"Hey, are you guys going to stop eavesdropping on us or am I going to have to bring you down here?" Natsu shouted as everyone then followed his gaze as they watched a dark skinned man wearing silver armour and a familiar silver haired female come into their sight.
"I see that you've already noticed us. No matter, I was about to make my presence known anyways." The dark skinned man said as Natsu looked at him suspiciously.
"And who are you?" Natsu asked as the man bowed at him.
"My name is Arcadios and I am the head guard of the palace, and this is Yukino, who I expect you all to know already, the new Sergeant of my group." Arcadios introduced himself as Yukino waved at the group.
"So? What are you doing here? Do you plan on capturing us or something?" Natsu asked and Arcadios shook his head.
"Of course not, I just came here to tell you all…..a little bit more of the topic that dragon spoke of." Arcadios said.
"And how do you know we were talking to a dragon?" Gray asked suspiciously.
"I took the liberty of eavesdropping as this topic is somewhat important to us." Arcadios said.
"But anyways, let me ask all of you a question. Do you all know of the demons in the book of Zeref?" Arcadios asked and Gray's mind immediately went to Deliora as he gulped.
"Acnologia is similar to these demons, for it was Zeref that had a hand in turning Acnologia into a dragon in the first place." Arcadios said and Natsu turned to him with narrowed eyes.
'I've never heard of that before. Lumina said that she suddenly turned against the dragons and not that Zeref turned her into one. Is he trying to lie to us?' Natsu thought to himself.
"So what does that do for all of us?" Gajeel asked as Arcadios turned to him.
"You want to defeat that dragon, correct?" Arcadios asked and Gajeel nodded his head.
"Of course I do! I'm going to make that bastard pay for what it did to us!" Gajeel said angrily and Arcadios smirked.
"Then let me tell you that there is way to defeat it. After all, it is a project that I've been working for a very long time now." Arcadios revealed as everyone kept quiet at that.
"So, how do we beat it?" Lucy asked.
"Well, the only way to conquer the dragon is to prevent it from becoming one in the first place, and for that to happen you need to defeat the Black Wizard, Zeref." Arcadios explained and everyone was shocked by what he said, but they still seemed suspicious with what he said and Arcadios noticed it before he cemented everything.
"Don't you all want to defeat Zeref and Acnologia? If this plan is successful, we would save billions or if not trillions of lives!" Arcadios said as silence filled the area.
"So, how could we possibly do that?" Natsu asked, surprisingly or unsurprisingly, broke the silence.
"Follow me." Arcadios said as he walked back, with the group following him.
"Do you think he's telling the truth about it?" Lucy asked.
"If it means we would be able to defeat both Zeref and Acnologia, then I don't see any other reason than to accept it." Panther Lily said.
"I don't trust him." Natsu said softly enough for the group to hear as they turned to him.
"He's definitely hiding something from us and his story doesn't add up, like how is Zeref capable of turning a human into a dragon?" Natsu asked and Gray shrugged.
"I don't know, but that guy's been practising Black Magic, right? So obviously he may have learned something to do something like that." Gray said.
"He has a point." Lucy added and Natsu just kept silent from there as Arcadios lead them to wherever it he was taking them.
It took them a few minutes, but Arcadios lead them to a hidden part of the castle and in the room was a very large gate and everyone was surprised at the size of it.
The Gate has a large door with an elaborate design. At the center of the door is a sun with a darkened moon below it. The lower section of the door from the sun past the moon is dark blue with golden lines, the upper section is green and split into twelve segments. Around the sun are several circles, the innermost one connecting the moon and twelve holes, one in each segment. A set of steps leads up to the door and two pillars stand on either side of the door with an arch connecting them. Atop the arch is an emblem consisting of an eclipsed sun.
"This, is the Eclipse Project, and this is the door that will change the future of the world. And with the amounts of magical power that it has absorbed from the wizards that have partaken in the Grand Magic Games, this door was finally constructed." Arcadios said as he looked at the gate with a smile.
"Wait, this giant thing is a door?!" Gajeel said in shock.
"Where does it lead us to?" Gray asked as Arcadios turn to him.
"To the place where the sun and moon intersect with one another. Which is why we need Celestial Spirit wizards in order to help us with our project." Arcadios said as everyone motioned for him to explain himself.
"In order for the gate to open, we need the power of the Celestial Spirits and only those Celestial Spirits could call upon them." Arcadios then turned to Lucy, a look of shame on his face.
"I apologize but I may have tried to kidnap you once." Arcadios said and immediately Wendy and Charles knew what he was talking about.
"You mean when those people kidnapped Wendy and I?" Charles asked and Arcadios nodded his head.
"I soon began to realize that my actions may have been to rash and it would have hurt someone, but luckily after that, I stumbled upon Miss Agria who was also a Celestial Wizard and offered her help to me after telling her the plan." Arcadios explained and Yukino nodded her head for confirmation.
"So, what will you do once you open the gates?" Wendy asked and Arcadios looked at them all seriously.
"Once the gate opens, a rift of time and space will open up and we will use that to go four hundred years into the past and kill Zeref before he achieves immortality." Arcadios said as everyone was shocked at what they heard.
Was it true? Could they actually go back in time using that gate?
"H-how is that even possible?" Lucy asked.
"Tell me, Lucy. Is it true that time at the Celestial World moves much quicker than it does here?" Yukino asked and Lucy nodded her head.
"And that's the concept we are using for the Eclipse project, to utilize the dimensional force that is contained in the Celestial World, thus in order to open such a gate, Celestial Magic, or in this case, Celestial Spirits who contain such magic, are needed." Yukino explained.
"To be honest with all of you, we thought that we needed to use a substitute source of power to open the gate, but to my surprise, we encountered two Celestial spirit mages on the very same tournament with all twelve keys in their possession. Now, we may be able to proceed with the plan."
"The time of action will be upon us all, when the sun and the moon intersect with one another to create an eclipse is the day the gate will be able to function. This will occur three days from now on the seventh of July." Arcadios explained and Natsu's eyes widened when he heard that.
'Wait, what?!' Natsu then quickly thought back to the latest Dragon Council meeting.
'The Dragon King Festival will be taking place on the seventh of July as well! There's no way that this is all a coincidence!' Natsu thought to himself.
"The Seventh of July? That's the same day that all our dragons disappeared." Wendy stated worriedly.
"What a coincidence." Gajeel muttered to himself.
Footsteps then could be heard as everyone turned back to see a large mass of guards in front of them, in fact they completely outnumbered them!
"Arcadios, what is the meaning of telling these outsiders of our project?" a rather short man said to him and Arcadios, who recognized the old man as the defence of minister, Darton, immediately started defending them and his plans before Darton shouted at him saying that it was too dangerous to change history before he had the guards arrest Arcadios and Yukino for treason, ordering that Lucy to be taken too.
The others tried to save their friend but was warned by Arcadios to not use their magic because the gate would suck up all magic power nearby.
The others were forced to leave and were quickly told by Darton that if they were to win the Grand Magic Games, Lucy would be released from captivity.
The group instantly took off to the bar that everyone were at and told the Master of their situation.
"To think that the kingdom was hiding such an important plan from all of us and much more that Lucy is playing a part in this." Makarov said as he rubbed his temples.
"Master, what do we do now?" Erza asked and Makarov began thinking.
"Well, we can't just go against the kingdom as it is, so as of now Lucy is their hostage until the completely call of their project." Makarov said.
"You know, I'm not sure as to why they even let us go in the first place." Gajeel said as everyone turned to him.
"I mean, if they don't want this so called "secret plan" of theirs to escape then why release us, when WE have the very same information?" Gajeel asked.
"Well, obviously if they were to keep us there, everyone will be suspicious that three of Fairy Tail's team members suddenly disappeared right before the finals." Natsu said as he leaned on the wall.
"Besides, you heard it yourself they're prepared to pull off this plan of theirs three days from now." Natsu said.
"But that minister dude said it would be cut off." Wendy pointed out.
"Also, Arcadios is taken into custody when HE was the mastermind behind it all." Charles added.
"And that's where you're wrong." Natsu said as everyone looked at him strangely.
"What do you mean?" Panther Lily asked.
"Well, Arcadios may have said that HE was the mastermind behind the Eclipse Project, but I have the feeling that, that wasn't the case whatsoever." Natsu said and Erza instantly understood what he was trying to say.
"So you think there's a real mastermind behind all of this?" Erza asked and Natsu nodded his head.
"I feel like Arcadios is just being used, if not helping this person who has been doing everything from the shadows." Natsu said and Gray growled menacingly.
"Then why are we still here? They can't do anything to us, so obviously we can-"
"Simmer down!" Makarov then struck Gray with his hand, causing him to crash to the ground.
"A member of our family has been taken away from us by force…." Makarov then looked up seriously.
"You can bet that we're going to get her back."
"So, what do we do, Master? We can't just rush in and save her." Erza pointed out and Natsu chuckled as everyone turned their attention to him.
"I have an idea that might just work." Natsu said with a smirk.
Later
Natsu then entered his hotel room and say Kei, who was awake, reading a book.
"You're still awake? I thought you were asleep?" Natsu asked and Kei turned to him in shock.
"And why were you so late, mister? I was so worried about you!" Kei said as Natsu got onto the bed with a frown on his face.
"Let's just say that things are getting a whole lot hectic right now." Natsu said and Kei was confused by his statement and asked him about it, to which he began telling her everything that happened after he dropped her in the room.
"So, what's the plan?" Kei asked and Natsu smiled before he leaned towards her.
"We should go to sleep first, we can talk about it later on." Natsu said as Kei smiled as well.
"I expect you to keep that promise of yours." Kei said and Natsu closed his eyes.
"Always…"
The Next Day
Fireworks were shot out into the sky as music began playing as the crowd in the stadium began cheering loudly.
"This is what we've been waiting for folks! The final day of the Grand Magic Games is finally upon us! All the wizards' hard work and effort has lead them here! Whether you like it or not, only one guild out of our eight will be victorious!"
"Now it looks like the teams are about to take the field!"
And from there, Chapati began introducing the guilds in order of their current ranking in which Quatro Puppy, Blue Pegasus, Lamia Scale, Mermaid Heel and Sabertooth.
"And currently in first place…!" the crowd began cheering as loud as ever even before Chapati could finish his sentence.
"Will this be the day they finally get back their title of being the strongest guild in Fiore?! Let us welcome to the field, Team Fairy Tail!"
"To think, they would get this popular after getting booed on the first day." Lyon said, watching as the Fairy Tail members began walking out from the tunnel.
"Oh, and what's this?! Fairy Tail seems to have made a substitution?!" Chapati announced.
The crowd then watched intently, wanting to know who out of their five would have been swapped out.
"And it seems Gray Fullbuster has been swapped out by their sixth member, Happy!" Chapati announced as he turned to Yajima.
Everyone then looked at the field and saw Erza, Laxus, Gajeel, Happy and….Natsu.
Natsu then turned to the old man and smirked at him, recalling the plan he had made yesterday night.
Flashback
"Basically, they expect us to take part in the Grand Magic Games so that we wouldn't bring any suspicion, right?" Natsu asked and everyone nodded.
"And that's the time where we'll go and save Lucy!" Natsu said and Makarov widened his eyes at that.
"You mean we send a rescue team towards the castle while the others will go and battle?" Makarov asked and Natsu nodded his head.
"I see, well then Mirajane, Wendy, Panther Lily and Charles. The four of you will be going in and save Lucy." Makarov said and the four nodded their heads.
"Wait." Natsu said and everyone turned to him.
"Four might not be enough since there's plenty of guards in there and there's only three fighters." Natsu said.
"Then what do you suggest us to do?"
"I suggest that we send Gray to help Mirajane and the others."
"Wait, why do I have to go in and help? I plan on beating Sabertooth too!" Gray growled and Natsu leaned in towards his ear.
"You know, if you save Lucy, she might be grateful and let you have some fun with her." Natsu said slyly as Gray blushed brightly.
Flashback end
'I'd never think to use such an underhanded technique before.' Natsu thought as he looked towards the stands and saw Leila and Kei waving at his direction.
Natsu waved back before turning to Sting and Rogue who were looking at him intently.
A silent message went through their minds as the Dragon Prince smirked.
'Looks like I was right to join the Final Day.' Natsu then cracked his knuckle.
'This is going to be a WHOLE lot of fun.'
