Hey, everybody. Back with Chapter 2.

Also, just a reminder. The acronym MID stands for Magical Intelligence Division.

Let's get to it.

Chapter 2- Extraction

It's a rather pleasant day in London as the sun is just reaching its midday arc. In a rather wealthy suburban neighborhood, a Honda Accord pulls up in front of a house and stops.

In the front seat of the car, Eric Barton smiles as he puts the car in park and looks at the house he just pulled up in front of. Thanks to a public records search, the CIA had identified this as the home of the Granger family. Barton had decided to handle this mission himself.

The CIA and MACUSA had long decided that Hermione and her parents were not a threat, and could in fact be a tremendous asset for their cause. They also feared what Dumbledore and those on his side might do to Hermione to keep her separated from Harry. It was therefore their decision to bring Hermione and her parents with Harry back to the States.

Barton climbs out of the car and locks it before walking towards the door to the Grangers' home. He's bringing with him his briefcase that is mostly there to make him seem more like a business partner to any possible guards from the Order of the Phoenix that he can't see, but also contains some photographs and other papers with intelligence to support his claims.

Barton finally reaches the door and knocks loudly. After a few moments, the door is opened by a teenage girl that Barton instantly recognizes as Hermione Granger. Trying to act polite and business-like, Barton politely asks, "Good morning young lady. Is this the residence of Dan and Emma Granger?"

Hermione looks at the man in confusion, wondering who he is, before she responds, "Yes. Would you come in while I fetch my parents?"

"Of course. Thank you," Barton says, speaking in his British accent that he has perfected over the years.

Hermione lets Barton into the home and directs him to the living room while she goes upstairs to get her parents.

Barton waits patiently in the living room for a minute before Hermione returns to with her parents. Dan Granger looks at Barton for a moment before he walks over and extends his hand politely. "Good morning, sir. Dan Granger," he says.

"Pleasure, sir. Eric Barton," Barton responds, shaking the offered hand.

"What do we owe the pleasure of your visit?" Dan asks.

"To put it simply, Mr. Granger, I'm not British," Eric says, reverting back to his American accent, "I'm an American, here with the CIA. I happen to be good friends with Colonel Walter Scott." Dan eyes widen at the mention of his old friend in the US Air Force from his days as a dentist in the RAF.

"Well, Agent Barton, it's a pleasure to have you here, and any friend of Colonel Scott is welcome here, but what interest does the CIA have in us?" Dan asks. Emma and Hermione both look a bit nervous, wondering the same thing.

"Well, Mr. Granger, we're here because of something related to your daughter. But, before I go any further, perhaps it would be useful for someone else to join us who can help me explain," Barton says. He then presses a button on a pager in his pocket, and a second later, with a pop, Sirius Apparates into the living room.

The Grangers stare at the new arrival for a moment before Hermione says pleasantly, "Sirius! What are you doing here?"

Sirius smiles brightly at Hermione. "It's good to see you again, Hermione. It's been a while," he says rather cheerfully. The CIA had debated sending Harry along with Sirius to help convince Hermione. However, it was ultimately decided not to send Harry in case his arrival could be detected by Dumbledore or any members of the Order of the Phoenix.

"Wait…Sirius, what are you doing here with a Muggle?" Hermione asks, very confused.

"That, Hermione, is a long story. Perhaps you and your family should sit down, and Agent Barton will explain everything," Sirius says. It takes a few moments before Hermione nods and takes a seat along with her parents. Sirius and Barton then take seats themselves.

"First of all, for context, you need to understand how relations work between the magical and Muggle worlds in the United States. Since the mid 1960s, once relations were established between the magical and Muggle governments, both governments have grown to work closely. More Muggles in America know of the magical world than any other country on Earth. Perhaps more than the entire rest of the world. There are several federal organizations that work in both worlds. I'm part of the Central Intelligence Agency's Magical Intelligence Division."

"Incredible. That's like nothing I've ever heard of in the magical world," Hermione says in awe.

"It came about for several reasons. One reason was to help prevent a repeat of incidents such as the Salem Witch Trials and similar persecution. Another was because of the Cold War, and both the magical and Muggle governments of America felt is was necessary to build such cooperation to defend ourselves in the event of war with the Soviet Union," Barton explains.

"That makes sense," Dan Granger pipes up.

"Now, Hermione, here's why this is important to understand. Following the first defeat of Lord Voldemort in 1981, members of the Magical Intelligence Division did not believe that he had been defeated for good. For that reason, the Director of the CIA formed the Harry Potter Task Force. The Task Force's mission was to locate and keeps tabs on Harry Potter, attempt to locate and track Voldemort, develop intelligence on how to defeat Voldemort for good, and prepare a force to help defeat Voldemort for good. I've been a member of the task force since 1991," Barton explains.

Barton pauses to allow Hermione and her parents to digest this before he continues, "The first thing that tipped us off that something was wrong was because despite our best efforts, we could not find Harry Potter. At the same time, we became aware that something interesting had happened when Harry Potter was taken from Godric's Hollow. During the MID's investigation, we discovered that Rubeus Hagrid and Albus Dumbledore were not the first to arrive on the scene." He then looks at Dan and says, "We discovered that you, Mr. Granger, happened to be in Godric's Hollow on business, and arrived at the house of the Potters first. You discovered young Harry in the house, but before you could do anything, Albus Dumbledore arrived and modified your memory to wipe all recollection of the experience from your mind."

The Grangers stare at him in shock, this sudden revelation having shocked them. After allowing them to digest this, Barton continues, "Having discovered this, we became very suspicious of Albus Dumbledore. In our continued failures to locate Harry Potter in the years following, we grew further in suspicion of Dumbledore, and began an investigation into Dumbledore. In the course of our investigation, we discovered something disturbing."

Sirius now takes over. "To understand this, Hermione, you need to know that Dumbledore, in his youth, was friends with Gellert Grindelwald." Dan and Emma look confused, not knowing the name, while Hermione gasps in shock.

"The two, in their youth, wished to lead wizards out of hiding and into the light. However, they grew apart as Grindelwald grew more and more radical. Eventually, Dumbledore believed that Grindelwald had lost sight of their original plan, and the two became enemies. However, Dumbledore didn't let go of their original plan. Over the decades, he has held onto his dream, believing that wizards deserve to no longer hide, and that the wizarding world needs his leadership to do so."

"Now that Voldemort has returned and Harry's fame is growing, Dumbledore is accelerating his plans. However, for that, he needs an army. And to finance such an army, he must get his hands on vast wealth. Fortunately for him, or so he thinks, Harry has inherited all of his family's wealth, which is massive. Dumbledore plans to get Harry under his thumb so he can use Harry's money, and once Voldemort is dead, have Harry disappear so he has no rival."

"No!" Hermione screams out, springing to her feet. Her parents and the two visitors look at her in surprise at her outburst, but Hermione doesn't care. For years, she has secretly harbored feelings for Harry, but has always kept them secret. However, the thought of losing Harry suddenly scares her, causing her to start to lose her fear of revealing her feelings.

Sirius is the first to recover from his surprise at Hermione's outburst. "Our thoughts exactly, Hermione. And part of that plan involves dousing Harry with love potions to make him fall in love with Ginny Weasley. We believe that Dumbledore has some plan to prevent you from interfering with this when you noticed something was wrong, and that's why we're here. We have already extracted Harry from his aunt and uncle's. Now, we want you and your parents to come with us back to the United States to protect you from Dumbledore and prepare to fight both him and Voldemort."

Seeing the looks on the faces of Dan and Emma, Barton speaks up and looks at Dan, "I know you will be hesitant to do this, Mr. and Mrs. Granger. However, Mr. Granger, I have some words from Colonel Scott. And those are: listen to the experts and get off your ass."

Dan smile and then begins to laugh as he hears those words that he had heard from his old American friend several times when they served alongside each other during Dan's brief stint in Iceland when Scott was stationed there.

"Well, Scott's never led me wrong before. I guess, with everything at stake, it would be wisest for us to go with you," Dan says.

"Good. We expect that Dumbledore will have deployed a guard or two to watch your house. To avoid arousing their suspicion, we will pack up as much items as you require before Sirius will Disapparate, and you will leave in your car about an hour after I have left to avoid suspicion. We will have you meet Sirius at a specific point, where he will transform your car into a Portkey to transport you to CIA headquarters in Virginia. Understood?" Barton explains the plan.

"Understood," Dan says.

"Good. Sirius will help you pack up your items. I will leave now to make time between our departures to avoid arousing the suspicion of the guards. Sirius will brief you on anything else I may have missed. I will be seeing you soon at Langley," Barton says. He then stands up and pulls a file out of his briefcase, handing the file to Dan. "This file contains photographs and intelligence reports that back up my claims, as well as to answer any major questions you may have. Feel free to look through it. Sirius will be able to answer any questions you have before you leave."

"Thank you, Agent Barton. We appreciate your concern for us. We look forward to our continued relationship. Also, let Colonel Scott I look forward to seeing him again," Dan says. Barton just gives a nod and smile in response.

"Alright, Barton. You'd better get out of here. I'll help them get ready," Sirius says.

"Of course," Barton says. He pauses, then looks at the Grangers and says, 'Mr. and Mrs. Granger. Hermione. A pleasure to meet you. I expect I'll be seeing you again soon. Until then." He inclines his head slightly in respect, then heads for the front door.

As Barton leaves the home, Sirius looks at Hermione and her parents. "We'd better get started," he says urgently.

In the bottom of the gulch, an American Auror named Andrew Walker, who is working alongside the MID, watches the towering house in the distance. The house is shaped like a rook in chess. The CIA, with the help of some British wizards working alongside them, had identified this as the home of Xenophilius Lovegood. With the help of a Hogwarts teacher secretly working for the MID, Xenophilius' daughter Luna had been identified as a possibility of someone who would be willing to be loyal to Harry's cause and provide the CIA with intelligence from inside Hogwarts.

Walker, who had been sent to make contact with Luna, has observed the Lovegoods for several weeks. Thanks to his observations, he knows that Luna will be coming to the river today to catch Freshwater Plimpies.

Watching with a set of binoculars, Walker sees the door open and Luna Lovegood come walking out, carrying a bucket with her for the Plimpies. Walker keeps himself hidden in the brush, waiting and watching as Luna approaches the river.

As Luna reaches the river, Walker stands up to reveal himself. Luna immediately hears him and turns to face him. After a moment, she asks in surprise, "Who are you? Why were you hiding in the bushes? Are you lost?"

"No, I'm not lost. I'm here to speak with you, Luna Lovegood," Walker says.

Luna looks intrigued. "You know my name," she says curiously.

"Yes, I do. And I think it would be rude not to tell me who I am in return. My name is Andrew Walker. I'm an Auror from the United States. And I'm here because the United States needs your help, Luna Lovegood," Walker says with a slight smile.

Far away from the Lovegood home, another American walks up to the front door of a home. This man is named Thomas Dallinger, another wizard working with the MID. He had left the CIA's secret facility in Northern Ireland not long ago, on a mission from Agent Barton to recruit another young wizard to their cause. One they knew would be loyal to Harry.

Dallinger knocks on the door in front of him and waits patiently, whistling a tune under his breath and bouncing on his feet as he waits rather impatiently. Finally, as he's about to knock again, he hears the door unlocking. A moment later, the door opens, revealing Neville Longbottom on the other side.

"Hello, Mr. Longbottom. My name is Thomas Dallinger. I'm an American, and I'm here on an errand from your friend, Harry Potter. We need to talk," Dallinger says.

Neville instantly looks concerned as he hears Harry's name. He steps aside to allow Dallinger in, saying, "Come on in. Tell me what's wrong."

And, I'll end the chapter there.

So, Hermione and her parents are leaving for the States, and the CIA has recruited Luna and Neville to serve as spies for them within Hogwarts. Neville and Luna will play an important role in the struggle against Dumbledore, as will two more I have yet to reveal.

Next chapter will be up soon. Until then, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
