Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.
Let's get to it.
Chapter 6- Shifting Situation
(August 2, 1995)
Harry smiles as loads the last of the dishes into the dishwasher. He had Hermione and her parents over for breakfast that morning, and insisted on doing the dishes himself, despite the Granger's protests.
"Alright. What are we going to do today?" Hermione asks.
Dan smiles. "Well, today is gonna be a treat to you. I'm taking you to Washington DC, and we'll be visiting the Smithsonian," Dan says.
Hermione looks about ready to fly out of her seat with excitement. Harry is confused and asks, "What's the Smithsonian?"
"The Smithsonian is a collection of 19 museums in Washington DC, dedicated to a wide variety of subjects. It's the largest collection of museums in the world," Dan says.
"Wow. Sounds like fun. I'm fine with that," Harry says.
"Alright. Once we're done with cleanup, let's head out," Dan says.
They quickly finish cleanup, lock up the house, and all pile into the Granger's new car, Hermione snuggling up to Harry in the backseat. Ever since they admitted their feelings for each other, the two have grown very close very quickly.
As the family heads out of the neighborhood towards the highway leading towards DC, they are all excited for the day ahead.
(CIA HQ, Langley, Virginia)
"What's your report on the situation in England, Sirius?" Agent Barton asks Sirius as the two meet in a small conference room at Langley.
"The Order of the Phoenix is on full alert and searching all over Britain and Ireland for Harry, pulling out every stop to find him. Dumbledore is trying to hold onto an image of calmness, but I can tell he's getting agitated his plans are being disrupted. However, he's keeping together.
"Fudge and the Ministry are another story. The story of Harry's disappearance has come out, and it was featured in the Daily Prophet yesterday. Fudge has lost his mind. He's trying to paint Harry as a fugitive from justice, as there could be no reason for his disappearance other than trying to cover up some kind of crime. He's trying to actually have a warrant issued for Harry's arrest. Admittedly, even most people against Harry in the Ministry think Fudge may be going too far, so he's having trouble getting the warrant, but it's only a matter of time. It has had the positive effect of him becoming more suspicious of Dumbledore, but not by much."
"No word yet on Voldemort or how he's taking the news. Our source hasn't contacted me yet, so we won't know anything on that front until he does."
Barton sighs a bit as Sirius wraps up his brief report. After a moment, he asks, "You've got a better handle on what the Ministry is capable of than I do. What's the chance of them or Dumbledore tracking Harry to the States?"
"I'm not sure. Dumbledore, I doubt he has the ability to track Harry, but I'm not 100 percent positive. The Ministry, possibly. They may be able to track Harry here based on his underage enchantments," Harry says.
"I don't know about that. We have extensive magical borders here. They may be able to track that he came here, but they can't track Harry, or Hermione, beyond knowing they're in the continental US. The chance of them tracking them down specifically is extremely low, simply due to the size of the country. Unless the British Ministry break into MACUSA and use their resources to track Harry, their chances of actually locating him is incredibly small. Regardless, we'll have an Auror stationed on lookout at all times, and we've alerted the Richmond Police Department, who said they'll patrol that street regularly. In any case, as I'm sure you know, getting past the Magical Border Patrol is extremely difficult," Barton responds.
Sirius smiles a bit and says, "Yeah, you're right. Just trying to look out for my godson."
Barton nods. Then, he says, "Also, I've received word from the Department of Justice. They've filed their suit on your behalf with the International Court of Magical Justice. The Court has agreed to try the case, and they'll be contacting Fudge about it within the next day to inform him of the suit. Your legal team has already begun gathering all of the evidence, and we think we have a strong suit. Attorney General Reno will be representing you."
Sirius gives a nod of thanks. "Are you sure we had to go to ICMJ? Couldn't we have just gone through the Wizengamot?"
"We didn't want to take the chance that Fudge would unduly influence the Wizengamot based on his prejudice. Also, since the ICMJ has more range of authority in terms of what cases it can try than its Muggle counterpart, it's legal to do so, and a successful suit will help us in building our corruption case against Fudge and his regime," Barton responds.
Sirius smiles. Hopefully, once this suit goes through, he'll be able to be more public in his appearances, which will hopefully make him more useful to the CIA.
(Malfoy Manor)
"You are sure of this?" Voldemort asks.
"Yes, my lord," Macnair says in response, "The Ministry is absolutely certain by now. They sent someone to inspect Potter's residence. His relations were there, but Potter was not. Potter has not been seen. Dumbledore has already informed the Ministry after accusations were hurled at him that he has no knowledge of Potter's whereabouts."
Voldemort's face contorts into an expression of annoyance. "Hmm. He cannot have gone far without help. He is not so competent. Either Dumbledore is lying, or someone else has taken him," he says. He pauses, then says to all of his assembled Death Eaters, "We have a new goal. Retrieving the prophecy must now take less priority. As many of our forces as can be committed must be tasked with finding Potter."
As everyone gathered at this meeting nods and gives words of affirmation, one individual in the hall is keeping careful mental notes of everything being said, already putting together their report to send to the CIA.
(Washington DC)
"And this is the space wing," Dan says as he leads Emma, Hermione, and Harry into another hangar at the Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center.
Harry and Hermione have already been to six other museums today, and been in complete awe at everything they've been able to see. Now, they're wrapping their day up at the Udvar-Hazy Center.
As the group enters the hangar, they stare in awe at the massive craft taking up the center of the hangar. The Space Shuttle Enterprise.
"Wow," Harry and Hermione say in low voices as they see the Enterprise. Both of them know about the Space Shuttle, having been old enough to remember when the program resumed in 1988 following the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.
"I never thought I'd see a Space Shuttle for myself," Hermione says.
"It's so big," Harry says in awe. He pauses, then says, "To think that in our world, we just watch planets and stars with telescopes, but the Muggles have created craft that can travel into space. They've even visited the moon."
The group walks slowly around Enterprise, admiring the Shuttle and other exhibits positioned around the Shuttle, spending almost 20 minutes in the hangar. FInally, after they feel like they've explored enough, Dan leads them out and back to the main hangar.
"Have you guys enjoyed your day?" Dan asks with a smile.
"Yes, we had a great time. Thank you, Dan," Harry says. Dan smiles and nods at Harry. Given Harry and Hermione's relationship, Dan, though very protective of his daughter, was trying his best to build a relationship with Harry, and the two men had grown closer since their first meeting at Langley.
"Alright. It's getting kind of late, so we should probably get going. Let's go find somewhere nice to eat," Dan says.
"Yes, let's," Hermione says excitedly, and Harry nods his agreement. The family then heads for the doors, ready for dinner after a long day.
And, I'll end the chapter there. I know, short, but I hope it was still enjoyable.
Next chapter will be up within the next week or two, hopefully. Until it is, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
