I only own my OC's.
Took long then I expected, life gets in the way.
Fight scene in this chapter and fair warning I suck at those, working on it but be warned.
In terms of the timeline for Young Justice, I'm tempted to do near the beginning of season 1, but since Damian is around Robin will have to be Tim, so I guess it's a slight AU.
Two's POV
"You need to eat." I said without taking my eyes off the road, Damian let out a disgusted groan as he picked the bag of off-brand crappy junk food, "Look I don't blame you, taste like horse shit."
"You would know?" Damian questioned with a far from an innocent look.
"Bite. Me."
"You're very snippy and…" He hissed, trying to find the right word, "unclothe for an engineered freak only ten days old."
As I tried to find the right words, the sounds beaten up old truck engine spluttered out, "Fuck." I forced the truck to come to a grinding halt, not wanting the battered piece of shit to blow up with us in it. I know over the top explosion aren't likely in the ordinary world but here who the hell knows?
"Aww, I liked this truck," I whined out loud which got the brat to roll his eyes.
"You stole it," He said with a flat voice, "begs to question why you didn't steal a better vehicle." He slammed the door shut as he pulled out a rucksack.
"The League would never believe us to be so dumb to steal an unreliable ride."
"Because it's stupid?"
"Exactly," I clicked my fingers with a light tone.
He let out a huff and walked ahead of us, "At the very least, you didn't pick it because it has character." He finished with a crooked grin, he let out a chuckle as I groan.
In our impromptu road trip Damian and I were forced to get rid of our training garbs and get into more civilian friendly clothing, but as we did, I was for the first time since waking up in this place met with my reflection in the dressing room mirror.
While my body was that of Netflix teenager, i.e. stupidly ripped somehow, I could inspect the scars running through my entire body more thoroughly now, easy enough to cover with baggy clothes. But, my face was another issue, a pair of deeper lines running across my jawline before curving before they touched my lips, going up along the side of my nose and ending at the base of my lids. The icing on the cake, my iris' a deep red with flecks of yellow.
Damian and I tried to keep our heads down as we walked through Gate City, hell we even tried to mingle around other kids my age, because I'm pretty sure Damian would kill me if I tried to get him to interact with typical eight-year-olds. But as we used the teens as camouflage to hide from unseen eyes, I was forced to do the talking, and much to Damian's joy, I was forced to deal with the flirting coming my way.
All the info the G-Gnomes gave me, and I still can't do the one thing every teenage boy wants to but fears with their entire being, talking to girls.
I just flustered and bumbled my way as the cute blonde talked my ear off, and when she noticed my awkwardness, she just giggled and tried to calm my 'fears' about my scars, saying they give me character.
"Argh. Shut up." I try to command the boy, but he snickers knowing he got under my skin, "I like to see you deal with crap like that."
He let out a scoff, "I've been trained to charm even the most shrewd of royalty and politicians. I can handle teenagers."
"Ah, poor Damian. Puberty is going to be a complete blindside for you."
He rolled his eyes, "Why would Nyssa even gave you teenage hormones, I'll never know."
I gave him a flat look, "Do you want to be in the mind-set of my 'mother' and because I sure as hell don't."
Damian let out a bark of laughter, "She would rip out your eyes if she heard you calling her that, even in jest."
"Aww, but she is my mummy dearest, and then that makes you my cousin." I teased hoping that I poked the bear cub, sorry bat pup. Instead, he looks ahead at the road we were walking, the blank look on his face almost didn't give away anything, but it was given shredded by the corner of his lips quirking up.
Maybe now is the best time to ask the questioning that's been bugging me since our escape, "Why did you save my life?"
Typical Damian, he answered with a question of his own, "Why did you save mine?"
I mulled the words over in mind as ignored One and his usual roaring of blood and death, "I know what type of man Ra's is, and I know what would entail my life as his weapon, I didn't want it,"
I let out a puff of air as I sighed deeply keeping my eyes on the steep hill we're trailing, "I'm pretty sure I was fooling myself into thinking I could've escaped with my life." He grunted, neither deny nor agree with my statement. "I don't know, when I saw him about to ice you, I figured I could have at the least prevented your death, ending my life doing something decent instead of becoming the very thing I was engineered for." Once again, he didn't say anything as he kept his eyes on the road, "So your turn."
He groaned with an air of annoyance, "I needed a partner to escape with, and you fit the bill despite your many flaws… cousin."
Neither of us said anything else as we climbed the top of the hill overlooking the gothic city, clouded by wisps of steam and smoke, bathed in eternal moonlight.
"Gotham City."
Third-Party POV
"Should we even be here?" Miss Martian said with a shiver in her voice.
"I know right, this city gives me the creeps," Artemis said with a slight grin gracing her face as she regarded her floating companion.
The green skin girl nodded in a so-so motion, "Yes, I suppose the city has a dangerous air about it, but I'm more worried about Robin getting in trouble with Batman."
"The man does run a tight ship,"
"It's more than that Artemis. Batman doesn't allow any other heroes to do any business in Gotham, I can't imagine Robin got the okay with the team being here."
"No but I don't believe Batman has ever been happy," Artemis shrugged her shoulders, "Robin is worried enough that he swallowed his pride and asked for something the big man wouldn't."
"Are The League of Assassin's truly that much of a threat?" Miss Martian questioned.
"Yes." A boy cladded in red, yellow and green garbed said, suddenly appearing behind the girls causing them to yelp, and for Artemis to notch an arrow.
"Goddamn it Robin, I hate it when you do that." Artemis clutched her heart.
Robin fought the urge to grin as he cleared his throat, "Batman hasn't told me everything but,"
"Big shock there." Artemis jabbed in.
"but," Robin as if he wasn't interrupted, "The League of Assassin's are making noise, subtle as first but the last couple of days they must have slipped up, gaining his attention."
"You think they're here, the League I mean?" Miss Martian questioned.
Robin let out a sigh without meaning to convey his worry, "Whenever Batman and the League of Assassin's meet, Gotham is always involved."
"Hmm…" Miss Martian drew the attention of her teammates as her eyes focused on the rooftops a small distance away.
"What do you see MM?" Robin questioned as he trusted his alien teammate's eyesight.
"Two figures, moving fast as they are sticking to the shadows."
"Can you get a read on them?" Artemis asked.
"No, they are too far."
"Still let's check it out," Robin said as he pulled out a grappling gun from his utility belt.
The three teenage superheroes closed the distances between them and their targets in less than a minutes, allowing them to hear the much shorter of the two to moan the tanned skinned scarred teen.
"Can't you move any faster?"
"Why are we taking the rooftops? We could walk or steal a car."
It seems as if the tail end of the conversation was enough for the supes to jump in the way of the two wayward boys.
"Well, shit." The older of the duo groaned, "Any chance I can take that last statement back?" He asked with a small smile on his hopeful face.
Before anyone could say anything further, the smaller of the two, a boy who looks about he's eight years old, stepped forward and met Robin's curious gaze with a battle-hardened gaze of his own.
"Damian, no."
"Two, you knew this was coming," Damian said as he kept his gaze solely on Gotham sidekick.
"Yeah I did," Two appeased, "but not now. When everything is settled."
Damian ignored Two as he slid into a battle stance, "You are not fit for the armour."
"What the-" Robin was quickly forced to dodge as Damian rushed forward. Damian did not let up on his assault as he continued to follow every strike with another, causing the older boy to dodge or bloke.
"A little help here," Robin called out to his teammates.
Before either the martian or archer could step in to stop the odd assault from continuing Two stepped in front of them, "I'm sorry, my cousin is a fool to pick this fight now, but I will not allow you to stop it."
"Then I am sorry," Miss Martian appeased with a frown, "I must do this." Miss Martian fingers touched the tip of her forehead as she concerted on Two.
Two's looked on in confusion before his eyes widened in fear, "Wait, don't!" He raised a hand up in a foolish attempt to stop the telepathy assault.
Miss Martial did not have enough time to listen to the cry of warning as her mind-melded into Two's, encountering the other occupant in the mind of engineered freak of nature. Miss Martian let out a pained scream as the mind attack turned tables on her.
Artemis scowled as her friend fell to the ground, "What did you do?" The girl growled with gritted teeth.
"I tried to warn her." Two said evenly, "You should take her and get her checked out." If she was going to take Two's advice, it was killed the moment Robin hit the ground between them.
The teen did a backflip and edging back to his teammates as Damian appeared next to his cousin.
"What happened to her?" Damian asked as he glanced at his cousin in the corner of his eye.
Two winced in guilt, "She tried to attack me with a telepathy attack, it didn't work." Damian's eyes narrowed at his cousin's lame excuse. The boy would have probed further if were not for the more pressing matter, matters.
Robin and Artemis nodded to each other before the blonde girl raised her bow in a beat and notching an arrow and releasing her hold on it, allowing it to set sail. The speed and reflex of the attack would have been impressive if it were not for the fact before the arrow could make contact with a body, it was plucked out of the air.
"Holy crap on a fire." Two looked just about shocked as the archer despite his hand holding onto the wooden shaft. Two let out a chuckle before throwing the arrow down to the ground taking on a severe façade, rushing forward to strike the archer with a cocked back fist.
Only for his fist to be caught by a yellow blur, "Sup." The speedster, known as Kid Flash, greeted with an easy smile.
Two was quick to respond, dropping to the ground sweeping Kid Flash feet underneath him, before slamming the speedsters head in the ground, for a double measure. Two thumped his right elbow at the back of his head. Before Two could cheer at the fact he took down potentially one of the most deadliest beings if they used their powers without fear of repercussions, Two was hoisted up by the scuff of his clothes.
"Huh, I just had a thought. we would be half-brothers?"
The clone of Superman loss of all of his aggression at the strange question, "What?"
"I was made by G-Gnomes, so I guess I'm technically a Genomorph like you."
"Two!" Damian shouted out to his partner in crime as he leapt around, dodging the attacks from Robin and Aqualad, "Stop having a chat and fight!"
Before the tank grown hyper assassin and the Kryptonian/Human hybrid could throw down, Two let out a groan as he avoided looking out of his peripheral vision.
"Damian, he's here." Two said calling out to his cousin as he dislodged himself from the clone.
"Who are you?" The Batman, Gotham's Dark Knight growled an angry glare as his eyes snapped on the older of the two intruders.
Two deep a deep breath as he met the man's gaze, "I am Subject Two, but I'm hardly important, it's that one you want to talk to." Two said with a pointed finger towards the younger boy.
Before the man could interrogate Two, Damian stepped forward ignoring everyone's presences barring the iconic hero.
"I am Damian." He said with sheer confidence that shouldn't belong to an eight-year-old, "The son of Talia al Ghul and Batman."
Robin stopped nursing his jaw as he heard those words, "What?"
Two's POV
Batman, the friggen Batman.
'He's one we need to test our mettle against.'
'Oddly coherent of you, One.'
He didn't respond, but I don't know why but I felt compelled to attack the big man himself, but to not only attack but to cause as much damage as possible, before inevitably killing him. Of course, I didn't act on the compulsion, but honestly whatever glee and elation I felt a moment ago meeting these now not-fictional superheroes was wrecked at the knowledge One can affect me more than just a devil on my shoulder.
I shook my head as the Young Justice team left the immediate vicinity, but not before the team conveyed their feelings of the two of us with their gazes, I ignored it for them for the most part just trying to make Damian didn't provoke them any more. Still, I couldn't help but notice the fearful look Miss Martian was sending me.
'Kill. Her.' One usual rambling is that of person whispering sweet nothings in your ear, but the way he begged me to kill the martian, it was as if One was furious at her.
'Don't like mind readers, One?'
'NOR SHOULD YOU!' I withheld a wince as the backseat driver bellowed in my ear.
"Even you Robin," Batman said with finality as he dismissed his protégé who I'm 60/40 sure he's is Tim Drake.
"Batman, I should-"
"You brought the team in Gotham without my permission," How can he sound so clam and furious at the same time?
"The League of Assassin's-"
"Are searching for them," Batman quickly put together the Leagues intentions despite being cautious about Damian, "you could have talked things out, but instead you and the team lost a fight you had no business picking."
"To be fair." I cleared my throat, "Damian threw the first punch."
"You know you're supposed to be on my side," Damian whined for the first time acting like a child his age.
"I told you there's a time and place to settle whatever delusion you have." I can't remember the name of the storyline where Damian attacks Robin, Red Hood and Nightwing and calls them all out, but I sure as hell know I ain't letting my foolish little cousin do something so asinine.
Still, I can't believe the only real regret I have from my old life is that I didn't read enough comic books.
"Robin check on your team. We will discuss this later." Batman ordered his sidekick to leave without saying it.
When the boy left rooftop glowering at his mentor, did Batman turn towards me, I couldn't help but notice he was trying to keep Damian out of his vision.
"Who are you?"
"Well, I have no name." I don't know why but it just feels wrong going by my past life name, hell I instead prefer Two, but we'll see if it sticks, "But I do know why I was made."
"Made?"
"Made," I nodded in agreement, "I'm about two weeks old, give or take."
"Clone?" Batman uttered.
"No," My scrunched up, "well I don't think I am. I just tank grown, and the League of Assassin's imprinted me with vast knowledge and fighting skills."
"For what purpose?"
A small laugh came out, a grim laugh, I didn't need to be told what I was made for, I didn't even need to know what my ability is, "I was made to kill you and the Justice League."
He tensed, his fingers twitched, a slight crunch as he ground his teeth, "And will you?"
Damian let out a scoff as he walked over to me, scowling up at his father, "My grandfather and aunt failed in making a subservient weapon. Instead, Two rebelled and saved my life."
"When they implanted the vast knowledge in me, they kind of janked up the brainwashing. Gave me the tools to escape, but they fucked up taking away my free will."
He was still pretty tense as he regarded our words, "Look I get it, this is beyond a lot to take in, but-"
"The League of Assassin's are hunting you both down."
"Yep."
"How did you evade them for so long?"
"Honestly?" He nodded, well a small incline of his head was as close as I could get as a nod from him, the same Damian does, must be genetic, "I don't know, I can honestly say I've been expecting to die the whole time I've been alive. Maybe Talia pulled the reins on the manhunt."
Damian scoffed at the mention of his mother, "Why would she do that?"
I gave him a flat look, "You, you idiot. She's your mother."
"I would hardly class her as a mother."
A mock sympathy look crossed my face, "Yeah, we can't all be as lucky as me." Two times and I hit the shitty mother jackpot both times, what a load of crock.
Someone as stubborn and prideful as Damian wouldn't apologise for offending someone, even if he semi cares about them, but he did surprise me by grimacing at my words.
"So, what happens now?" Damian asked, trying to change the subject.
I know where this is going.
I turned towards the big man and stuck put both my hands, "Look, I know the type of man you are. I'm weapon at best, a thing at worse, but Damian, he's just a kid, yours."
"How did you take down Miss Martian?"
A snort escaped me, "Nothing escapes you does it? How long were you watching?" I gave him a chance to answer, but he just let it linger, "Well shit, I'm gonna have to explain One."
