Sorry that this chapter is so short! I had writer's block, and I wanted to get it out quickly. Anyways, I might post more throughout this week before Saturday, since I'm going on vacation for the second half of July. Hope you enjoy this chapter despite its shortness!

"Okay, so my mom is in her room," Zarina began, pacing across her room. She stopped in the middle of her carpet and fidgeted with her hands. "My Imparter is most likely somewhere in her pockets, and she's sleeping. She'll have changed into different clothes, meaning I need to search her room to find it. And my dad is there too."

She spent a few minutes making sure she could blink for a few seconds in case her mother woke up. Then, Zarina scoured her closet for the darkest clothing she had: a dark blue tunic, dark gray pants, and a black cloak.

It took another ten minutes before she had worked up the courage to actually go through with her plan.

Before leaving, Zarina made sure that all of the pockets in every article of clothing she was currently wearing were empty, so as not to make any extra noise. Plus, she needed the space to properly conceal the Imparter, and be able to come up with an excuse. I wanted to check on how you were doing was the only thing she could come up with in case she was caught, but Zarina knew that was pretty lame. Both her parents would see right through it.

Creeping against the hallway wall, Zarina held her breath, suddenly grateful for her ability to hold her breath for 24 minutes. She tensed her muscles, making sure not one part of her stepped out of line for even a second.

It didn't take long for Zarina to get where she needed to be. Her parents' room was only a few steps across the hallway, and she knew it by heart from all the times she'd been there.

Zarina closed her eyes for a few seconds before slowly easing open the door to her parents' bedroom. The room was pitch black, but she knew that her eyes would adjust. She tentatively took a step forward, trying to stay light on her feet.

The next few seconds were a blur, but eventually she found herself grasping a small silver square in her hand and standing in front of her mom's closet.

She paused.

Silence.

In the all clear, Zarina tiptoed back into the hallway and softly closed the door, hurrying back to her own bedroom as quietly as possible before leaning against her door and letting out a long breath.

Zarina walked across her room and sat on her bed. Holding the Imparter in the palm of her right hand, she took a deep breath.

"Show me Lyrei Torven."
