My hands shook violently as I threw my wand on the principles desk, then turned and left the office silently as rage coursed through me. I made my way to the front door where my twin stood waiting. "Are you sure about this?" he asked quietly, looking at the floor. I smiled and held my hand out to him, and after a moment's hesitation he took it and I squeezed his hand gently.
"If you go, then I go. Fuck Illvermorny." I said and he smiled at me, grey eyes glistening for just a moment before the two of us turned and walked out the large double doors.
(One Month Later)
I was leaning against a tree at the edge of the woods on our great grandparents' farm when I heard someone running, turning I saw Adrian racing toward me, grinning massively a piece of parchment clutched in his hand. He slid to a stop in front of me, almost tripping over the scattered leaves and dead branches that had fallen from the trees and bounced happily. "Syl how much do you love me?"
"Adrian what are you on about?" I chuckled as he continued to bounce and held up the piece of parchment.
"I did a thing!" I froze and stared at him cautiously, knowing my twin that could mean one of two things.
"What-what'd ya do?" I asked and looked over his shoulder expecting to see cops or firetrucks...or both.
"Remember when Granny was tellin us about Hogwarts?"
"Yeah?..."
"I wrote to the Headmaster...Dumbledore."
"And?" I asked as a flutter of excitement formed in my stomach.
"He's settin up a portkey for us...we're officially transferred to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!" My mouth fell open in mute shock and then a huge grin fell across my face.
"Adrian are you serious?" I laughed as he nodded vigorously.
"As a fucking heart attack Syl! He sent a list of the things we'll need to pick up if we don't already have them and then we can attend Hogwarts."
"And Granny and Grand Pappy are okay with it? And mom and dad too?" He nodded and I could see some of the excitement in his eyes that I hadn't seen in a long time, return. "Well then...what else did Professor Dumbledore say in his letter?"
"Just that he would be happy to accept both of us into his school and that he will be placing us in Slytherin House."
"Yeah, that tracks..."
"Come on then little sister let's go get our stuff packed!"
"Three minutes! Three god damn minutes and you will never let me live it down will you?" I demanded as he laughed and dodged the stick I'd tossed at him.
"Nope...never." He said and ran inside laughing as I followed closely behind. A couple of days later Adrian and I were both standing on the front porch of the house waiting for...something...we didn't know what we were waiting for specifically, but we knew we had to be on the front porch at this specific time. It was what Professor Dumbledore had said in his letter last night. So early that morning, we'd gotten up and made sure all our clothes and school supplies were packed, and I coaxed Phantom, my cat, into his carrier, and after a hurried breakfast we'd hauled everything onto the porch where we now stood.
"Adrian look!" I said as a flash of light appeared in the field opposite the house.
"Alright that'll be the portkey..." Granny said and then she and Grand Pappy helped us carry our luggage to the field where we found a medium sized sky-blue rubber duck.
"Ummmm...what?" Adrian and I asked simultaneously as our grandparents laughed softly.
"Listen you'll need to keep a tight hold of your luggage and the portkey." Grand Pappy said as he and Granny hugged us and then stepped back. I looked at the rubber duck laying innocently in the middle of the field and then looked at my brother and together he and I stooped and grabbed the duck. As soon as we had hold of it, we were whisked into the air, after what felt like an eternity, I felt myself slam into the hard ground, three more thunks followed as Adrian and our luggage had landed as well.
"Who's fucking idea was it create that god damn thing?" Adrian groaned as he pushed himself up and looked around.
"I don't know but they need they're head examined." I moaned and looked around curiously as I grabbed Phantom's carrier and opened it. Immediately he jumped onto my shoulder and dug his claws into my skin. "Phantom stop it." I hissed as I noticed a tall, thin man approaching us. His silver hair and beard glinted in the moonlight as he smiled down at us over his half-moon glasses that sat precariously atop his long-crooked nose.
"Hello Adrian, and hello Sylvr. How are you this fine evening?"
"Be a lot better if I hadn't just landed on my ass...who're you?" Adrian said as he finally made it to his feet and brushed himself off.
"My apologies...I should have told you that I would be meeting you here when the portkey landed so as to take you to Hogwarts...I am Professor Dumbledore. Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." he said softly and I fought the urge to laugh as Adrian froze and gave an impish grin.
"Oh...Hiiii Professor...how-how we doin tonight?" I bit my lip as Dumbledore chuckled.
"Fine as Unicorn hair in the moonlight my dear boy...now come...It is late, and you have classes tomorrow." With that our luggage floated off the ground, up the road and out of sight.
"Um Professor...i-is this Hogwarts?" I asked looking around at the many houses and buildings that surrounded us.
"No, no. This is Hogsmeade. Hogwarts is just up the road a bit come, come." I looked at Adrian who was looking around in excitement and then the two of us followed Professor Dumbledore up the road. After a couple of minutes though he stopped and pointed, as I followed his finger my mouth fell open in awe. Standing before us, atop the hill, was a massive castle. "There is Hogwarts children. Your home for the coming months, I do hope you will like it. Now as we walk let me tell you a bit about our fine school. It was founded in 990 AD by the four most celebrated witches and wizards of the time. Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, Godric Gryffindor..."
"And Salazar Slytherin..." I finished and he beamed at me proud that I had known that.
"Quite right! Now at the start of the school year we hold a sorting, where in all of our first years, yourselves excluded, will have the sorting hat placed upon their heads and will be placed into one of the four houses, named after our great founders. After that our start of year fest begins and once, we've eaten our fill we sing the school song, and you all pop off to bed before classes start the next day."
"School song? Hogwarts has a school song?" Adrian asked
"Why yes. Would you like to hear it?"
"Yeah, course we would." Dumbledore cleared his throat and after a moment began to sing in a light and jumpy tone.
"Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts
Teach us something please
Whether we be old and bald
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling
With some interesting stuff,
For now, they're bare and full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff,
So, teach us things worth knowing
Bring back what we've forgot,
Just do you best, we'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot."
After he finished there was a brief moment of silence before Adrian and I broke out into a fit of laughter and mild clapping as he gave a dramatic bow, his beard sweeping the ground as he did so and then he continued his previous speech. "A few announcements you should be made aware of just as the other students were made aware. First, the forest on Hogwarts grounds is forbidden to all pupils, our caretaker Mr. Filch reminds that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors. Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of term, if you're interested in playing for your house you should contact Madam Hooch. And finally, the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to all, unless you wish to die a most painful death." I glanced at Adrian and raised my eyebrow slightly in question.
'Die a painful death? The fuck I thought this was a school?' I thought to him, and he fought the urge to laugh and looked at me.
'Still better than Illvermorny...' I nodded in agreement, as he sent his reply through the "twin telepathy link" as we'd taken to calling it. After another few minutes of silent walking, we found ourselves standing before the massive double oak doors of the school. Dumbledore pushed them open and entered as Adrian and I looked at each other and then stepped through the doors into the warm lighting of the school...
