Chapter 346 Hogwarts Farm
The Hogwarts Castle is located in the sparsely populated Scottish Highlands. Although its geographical location is relatively remote, it is definitely not associated with desolation and barrenness.
In fact, as the former estate in the eyes of the Slytherin family at that time, the wealth of natural resources surrounding Hogwarts can be considered one of the best in all of Scotland.
Not to mention the rich aquatic biosphere, the gloomy Black Lake, and the Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts inhabited by a variety of delightful magical creatures. Crossing the Quidditch Stadium from the north of the castle, there lies a vast expanse of fertile and unexplored land. After reclaiming the low hills, then outward, some low hills with shrubs are found.
The noble Sirius Sirius once hid in a cave on that hill and lived there for a long time.
"Well, this will be our Gryffindor vegetable garden in the future. After that, it's up to you."
Professor McGonagall stopped and pointed to the open ground not far from the Quidditch Stadium. The students turned around and nodded, pressing their lips a little and appearing less serious than before.
Perhaps due to the long-standing contradictions among the four houses, and to take into account the little egos of the young wizards, the vegetable gardens assigned by the four houses of Hogwarts were not placed next to each other but were designated and decided by the heads of houses according to their own ideas.
As an enthusiastic veteran of Quidditch, Mileva McGonagall naturally saw the vacant land next to the Quidditch stadium as quite sunlit, flat and open, and away from those concentrated traffic paths.
Most importantly, it is close enough to the Quidditch Stadium. In this way, not only has the training time of the Gryffindor Quidditch team at least doubled or tripled, but any other house wanting to plan secret tactics, the little lions working in the field only need to look up to easily see them.
Undoubtedly, in the face of Professor McGonagall's choice, the majority of Gryffindor students have shown very consistent and solid support. For these energetic students, this open land is simply a perfect place to pass the time. It even gave them a wonderful illusion that the Quidditch Stadium was hired by them.
"It's amazing, we will always play at home."
Oliver Wood looked excitedly at the row of high golden posts on the Quidditch field not far away and turned to pat the Weasley brothers on his side, his voice full of energy and vitality.
"Guys, we will work harder this semester and train five times a week, and we must reclaim the House Cup!"
"Five times a week?! Wood, forgive us…"
George Weasley rubbed his shoulders with a smile and said with sadness.
"Think about it, we still have to plant during the day. Are you sure you will still have the energy to fly to train at night?"
"Yes, without Slytherin at that time, we can fall from the sky ourselves," nodded Fred Weasley and sang in duet with his twin brother.
"Or, due to the lack of rest, the ball was not held firmly and was swept away by the ball…"
"Then it fell to the ground and became a ghost, flying around the field for a lifetime…"
If in the last semester, Wood was a little careless, after some memorable defeats, Oliver Wood has become one of the best training machines in the history of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, according to the Weasley's argument that they would like to tie a broomstick to him.
"Cough, didn't you listen carefully to Professor McGonagall's explanation just now?"
Noticing the discussion on the other side of the team, Percy Weasley couldn't help but furrow his brow, looking at the two younger brothers who were goofing off, and cleared his throat with a serious voice.
"The vegetable gardens of each house rotate their crops, and today is just a special case. Except for the first and second years, from Monday to Friday, one year is responsible for the vegetable gardens each day. The whole house is divided into four groups, which are divided into four days and a half of work. They are organized according to the senior class leader…"
As he spoke, Percy raised his finger and tapped the shiny senior badge on his chest, adding with a little pride.
Indeed, last night, every senior class leader was notified in advance: in the next semester, they will be mainly responsible for supervising and coordinating their house's gardens, including selecting plant seeds, reclaiming, sowing, caring, harvesting… All processes are led by the students.
Of course, throughout the process, the school teachers are not completely left out.
Any issues the students encounter, they will be happy to answer questions, including how to accelerate the plant maturity cycle, what magic should be used to loosen the soil and fertilize, how to increase the yield of common plants…
And considering that most young wizards are being exposed to agricultural work for the first time, in the first week, the heads of the four houses will guide the young wizards to complete a full production cycle, from sowing to harvest.
The house-elves cleared all the stones and weeds last night, and a large chunk of land that could be used directly for cultivation was reclaimed in advance. The dark brown soil looks fertile at first glance.
"But Professor, what plants do we have to plant? After all, it's a big piece of land…"
Hermione looked up at Professor McGonagall, raised her hand actively, and asked with some confusion.
Compared to the Quidditch-loving boys, Hermione is obviously more concerned about what they will do next. After spending a few days with Elena in the kitchen, Little Beaver is clearly aware of the importance of basic ingredients for the future.
"Allow me to see..."
Professor McGonagall smiled faintly, took out a long scroll from her pocket, and unfolded it, pushing up her glasses.
"The first is wheat and lettuce, which are two types of plants that each school must cultivate. In this way, they can at least ensure they have bread and vegetables to eat... As for other varieties of plants, it is up to each school to determine which ones they would like to choose to plant."
Professor McGonagall paused, and her eyes scanned the faces of the young wizards through the lenses.
"So, children... if you have any suggestions for cultivation, you can propose them now."
