EgyCan: First Winter
Gupta was online, looking at a few pictures of Egypt at that moment. He had come to study at a university in Canada, and was feeling a little homesick. And he was feeling frustrated, since it was cold, and he wasn't too used to the sensation. As it was, he was wrapped in a blanket, underneath which he had a few shirts and two pairs of sweatpants, and yet he was still shivering.
He was slightly startled by a knock on his door, and he turned to see his roommate, Matthew (who he might have feelings for) standing in the doorway.
"You okay?" Matthew asked.
As though to answer his question, Gupta shuddered, wrapping the blanket even tighter around himself. Matthew smiled.
"Come with me," he said. "I know something that would make this all worthwhile."
Gupta frowned, but nonetheless did as Matthew said. Matthew led the way to the front door, and Gupta hesitated for a moment, his frown deepening. Matthew held out his hand.
"Trust me," he said.
Gupta hesitated again, before taking Matthew's hand. He was thankful for the blanket, for it allowed him to hide his reddening cheeks.
The sun had already set, but Gupta could see little white flakes fluttering around. His eyes widened, only barely familiar with the sight.
"Snow?" Gupta asked.
"That's right," Matthew said. "Tonight's the first snowfall of the season."
Gupta looked towards Matthew again, before he stuck out his hand. He flinched slightly when he felt the cold make contact with his skin, but then the little white flake was gone. Already, a small layer of the snow was on the ground, and Gupta ventured into the gradually whitening world, seeing his footprints behind him.
Matthew smiled, sitting down on the porch as he watched Gupta. Seeing the other looking excited brought a blush to the Canadian's cheeks. It wasn't often that he saw the Egyptian acting like this, and he felt that he had found something more beautiful than the snow.
The prompt is: 'Imagine Person B moved from a very warm place to a very cold place. It's their first winter away from home, and they're feeling a bit sad. During the first snow of the season, Person A (their best friend/crush/love interest/whatever) takes them outside to drink hot chocolate and watch the snow fall. Person B is so amazed by the snow they run to catch it on their tongue, and Person B thinks A is so cute, they sit and watch them (blushing the entire time).'
I can already see that this is going to be me. Going from South Africa to France (and among the mountains), I can already feel the cold. I'm actually feeling cold! And I have a pretty high tolerance for South African standards.
