TurkIce: Recovery

He was in that room again. Those men were also there. The men carrying the guns.

He wanted to leave. He wanted to be with his boyfriend. He wanted to be safe.

One of the men was on the phone. That wasn't good. It meant that someone would be forced to scream. Emil only hoped that it wasn't him. But then the man turned to him with a smirk, and Emil could feel the panic starting to build.

Sadiq was startled awake when he heard Emil screaming. He quickly scrambled out of his bed and ran towards Emil's room, seeing the Icelander writhing on the bed.

"Emil," Sadiq said, sitting down next to Emil. He started stroking the other's hair. "You're safe. It's over. Please, wake up."

It had happened several months ago. Emil, along with several of his co-workers, had been taken hostage by a terrorist organisation. They were in the building for days. The hostages were all bound and gagged with duct-tape. But whenever the terrorists would make demands, they made sure to hurt one of the hostages, removing the gag to allow their screams to be heard. And while waiting for their demands to be met… They kept themselves entertained with the hostages. They had also killed three of the hostages, something that Emil had been forced to watch.

Months later, and Emil was still having nightmares about what happened. He didn't allow anyone to touch him, and Sadiq had to be very careful with him. His touch was the only one that Emil accepted. But they still had to sleep in separate rooms, lest Emil have a panic attack.

The worst part was that the men that did this to him were still out there. They managed to get away. And Emil lived in constant fear that they would return.

Emil's eyes snapped open, and he stared at Sadiq. He burst into tears, and Sadiq pulled him into a hug. Emil clutched to him, and Sadiq bit his lip. He hadn't been there when Emil needed him most, but he swore to himself that he would always be there to help him recover.

The prompt is: 'Person A of the relationship has gone through some form of major trauma and abuse while Person B wasn't able to help. Months after Person A is safe again, they continue to have nightmares and flashbacks to the event and find it hard to trust people anymore. Person B is heartbroken but slowly helps Person A learn to love again and be themself.'

I briefly considered doing an abusive relationship, but I've had a few of them. So, hostage situation it is. I've also been reading a bit about Stockholm Syndrome, and wanted to do something either with it, or where it wouldn't be possible.
